Everyone came to hear Helena Marsh read murder. No one expected to witness one.
When the bestselling mystery author arrives in Mapleoak for a bookshop reading event, the Murder Mystery Book Club is beside themselves with excitement. Twenty-four hours later, Helena is found dead — crushed beneath a fallen bookcase in her seaside rental cottage. With the town’s real detective inconveniently out of state, the club finally has its moment. Helena had enemies and plenty of them. A scorned ex-lover hiding secrets. A furious rival author with a reputation to reclaim. A pompous bookshop owner with everything to lose. Even an obsessive superfan with jam jars and nervous sweat. From gossip fueled stakeouts to questionably legal “evidence retrieval,” the club barrels through suspects with more enthusiasm than expertise and somehow, against all odds, the clues begin to point in one chilling direction. Because Helena didn’t just write about scandals. She collected them. And someone was desperate to stay unwritten. What started as a dream literary event is about to end in another headline… unless the book club can solve the case before they become the next tragic twist.
The Murder Mystery Book Club is excited to have best selling author, Helen to do a reading at the bookstore. Unfortunately, that didn't happen since she was found murdered in her rental home. With the detective out of town, the book club took it upon themselves to investigate the murder. So the amateur, quirky mystery club group find more than they bargained for when they found there was no shortage of potential suspects. Can they figure it out? There are some very funny moments that will make you laugh out loud. Can the club catch a murderer and keep themselves out of trouble? This is a fun second book in the series and I can't wait to see what will happen with the group next. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
This is the second book in the series and you find yourself in the middle of a Murder Mystery Book Club. Unfortunately it turns out to be more than a club as one of the members turns up dead. The club members are soon in the middle of trying to solve this murder as the town’s real detective is inconveniently out of state. Character development is good. Keeps your interest as they try to figure out was going on. Enough twists and turns to keep your interest. A typical 'hard to put down' story. After reading this one, I want to read the other book in this Series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Good addition to the Murder Mystery Book Club series by Millie Hartwell. Lots of metaphors and similes in this book. Lots of characters that were hard to distinguish between at first. The visiting author is murdered after the rumors spread that she was writing a tell-all book about their town. *I received this as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
I really did enjoy the story but there were too many metaphors and similes running through out the book. It became a bit bothersome. If you enjoy cozy mysteries you’ll enjoy this book and if you’re looking to write, this book deals with new authors. I recommend it!
A Exciting mystery with Murder and lots of suspense . Great characters to this book too.Lots of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. I received this ARC copy via Booksprouts and recommend this book to other readers.
Ironic in the sense the writing style spells out more than is necessary rather than leaving more details to the readers' imagination; but not way too much, and is otherwise nicely written with interesting characters.
