Holly James' latest action-rom-dramedy was a fast-paced, lighthearted read with a smidge of spice that rounded up nicely in a predictable sequence of events. 👍🏻 The pacing was swift and fluid, although I would have preferred if it could have been a dual perspective, because Agent Bray, the li, did not have much presence, save for his smiley faces. 🙂 And delicious kisses. 😘
And boy, could he kiss. What?! It was hawt, okay? 😏 Even though his smitten-ness with Erin was a bit too convenient, they shared some sweet chemistry and fun banter that showed how compatible they were for each other. A very welcome and warm cage I wanted to be locked inside forever for how she had forgotten the touch and hunger she yearned for. ♥️
I struggled, though, to like Erin. As much as I sympathized with how she was forcibly resigned to be a true specter in the wind, some of her actions were a bit too casual and cavalier and reckless to be forthcoming of a good agent, who maybe was too over-confident in their multi-talented capabilities. 🙄 Which made it harder to believe her skill sets could get her out of tough situations so easily.
“The opportunity to sneak in somewhere—somewhere big—hadn’t crossed my path in years, but it was my favorite kind of challenge.”
The mystery behind both cases was lukewarm, at best. very little time spent with her alias, which I was actually getting into! I would have liked it if the ending had given some closure to the smuggling operation, which was sadly dismissed. 😮💨 Even if it was nice how Erin tied her past and present together to assist her in her attempt to save herself.
One issue I faced with the writing, though, was the lack of contractions used at moments where it felt more necessary. 😕 The formality of it not in use, totally changes the tone of the comment, which felt ill-fitting to the situation at hand. Maybe it was deliberate, but it just disrupted the flow of the narrative for me.
Still, if you're in the mood for a quick fix for something light and active, with a dash of action and a hint of tension, nothing too heavy on the brain or too flashy-forward, then this is a nice reprieve from the moody angsty reads I torture myself with. 💮

As someone who loved the show Alias, this book was like a warm hug. Different enough but had enough to make me notice similarities.
This was a genre mashup - romance, mystery, suspense - covers, false identities and crime.
Erin has a complicated past thanks to her career criminal father and 10years ago they got caught up in a bust. Rather than face prison she agreed to be a CI for a secret government agency.
Now, her handler calls her in the middle of the night to fast track her current job and sends her to a fluffy suburban job across the country where she is introduced to a new handler she wasn’t expecting. Soon she realizes her cover has been compromised and ghosts from 10 years ago are hunting her.
They fought it for a bit but the attraction and internal infatuation was pretty instant for Erin. I wish that wasn’t so fast but otherwise I really liked it. Speaking of attraction and spice, there was tension and some handsyness and comments about “ending droughts” but not much detail other than talking about a bulge or brushing nipples. I wouldn’t have been mad about more!

I absolutely loved The Big Fix by this author. Truth be told I actually love a lot of Holly James books but she does genre jump a lot and this one was more in line with the romantic suspense themes of Big Fix. The things I loved about that book ring true here too- fast paced, romantic suspense, characters I love and an interesting story line.
I don’t mean for this review to be too much of a comparison but what fell slightly short of the 5* rating of that book here was the amount of storylines and the somewhat chaotic back and forth between them. Big Fix had a bit more humor, banter, and easier to follow storyline.
Think of Erin as Sidney Bristow in Alias (only blonde) and Agent Bray as a brown haired grey eyed Jack Reacher (the TV version, not the movie version). I still think about those biceps 😂 🥰Erin’s life is not her own, working as a confidential informant due to choices her criminal father made that put her in danger. She ends up with Agent Bray as her handler who shares similarities in that his life is largely led by familial responsibility. I loved their connection and chemistry. Throughout this book Erin is both on a case as well as running from her past.
The reason I’m not more explanatory in reviewing what I wish were different in this book (or technically didn’t enjoy as much), is that I think it’s worth reading this book going in a bit blind other than just the description provided by the author. If you like a quick read and the romance suspense tropes I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in this read. It would be giving away too much of some of the twists the story took to explain how the story lines diverged off, and then came back together, and it felt a little disjointed to me for reasons wrapped up in that- or I would have rated this higher.
I also wish there was more interaction and banter between Agent Bray and Erin (which again was present in Fix). I loved both characters, especially how earnest and adorable Bray was wrapped in a super hunky package.
Overall I enjoyed this read and would recommend.

A book with espionage and romance? You bet I’ll pick it up. As an Ally Carter fan, I found this reminded me of a more grown-up version. It was fun, mysterious, and a covert assignment, with a sprinkle of romance.
Erin had an unconventional childhood. She grew up working with her father as a thief until they were finally caught. She entered a plea deal with a secret government agency that wanted to use her as an informant in exchange for no jail time. Erin’s time as a criminal and undercover operative has made her smart, resourceful, and a survivor. She’s a chameleon who can adapt to any situation, as we see when she describes some of her assignments. But all she ever wanted was her freedom back. She wants to find a way to discover who she really is on her own terms. I sympathize with how her life has turned out. She’s never really had an opportunity to be her own person, but maybe there is a way after she finds out her handler has been murdered.
There are two mysteries in the story. Who killed Erin’s handler, and what is up with the smuggling group run by a group of moms? The way her personal life collided with her current assignment was a fun twist. Her new handler, Agent Cal Bray, is a cinnamon roll with a hero complex, according to those who know him. He always wants to do the right thing and by the book. I liked the dynamic of Erin being independent and confident, while Cal was awkward and sweet.
If you’re looking for a fun time, you might enjoy this one.

The premise immediately pulled me in, and I especially enjoyed the depth of Erin’s backstory and the complexity of her life spent in multiple identities. The suspense elements and caper-style storyline kept the pages turning.
Going into this, I was especially excited because I absolutely loved the author’s previous novel, Last Night Was Fun, which had such sharp banter and a light, playful rom-com feel. In comparison, The Alias Agenda leans more heavily into action and mystery, with a more serious, plot-forward tone.
While the romance adds an emotional layer to the story, I would have loved a bit more development and buildup to make the relationship feel more gradual and fully earned. I also found myself missing some of the witty, lighthearted energy that I’ve loved in the author’s earlier work.
Overall, this is an entertaining and original read that will appeal to readers who enjoy romantic suspense, undercover storylines, and character-driven intrigue. I’m always excited to see what Holly James writes next and look forward to her future releases!

A action-rom-dramedy, this book is a mix between Ocean’s 13 and A Killer Kind of Romance. If you like adventure in an Indiana Jones type way, this book is definitely an adventure that doesn’t come up for air.
Erin is an undercover agent for the DSA, an underground CIA/FBI operation that doesn’t have to follow all those rules. After being arrested with her father as a teenager, an agent gives her this life- going from job to job, identity to identity, all undercover. It is as much work as it is witness protection because the mafia that she and her father stolen from is still after her and wants her dead.
In the middle of the night she is whisked to Del Rio to be a nanny in the middle of a mom’s underground high end baby supply operation. There are twists and turns and this is a really fast paced fun story.
The main character in 3 words? Clever. Reckless. Imprisoned.
My favorite character? Her partner Agent Wallace, although he is MIA most of the book.
Recommended? Sure. I liked it, but you might love it. It’s the book equivalent of the queso special at Chili’s. It’s a bit predictable but glorious and full of pizzazz instead of deep meaning. Chow down!

Oh my! This book was SO FUN. I’ve never read anything quite like it. In her acknowledgments, the author describes this book as an action-rom-dramedy. And it is! It’s full of secret agent stuff, high drama, and a fun love story.
I had to read this one because the author wrote one of my favorite books from last year (Last Night Was Fun) under a different name, Holly Michelle. And now apparently, I need to read all her books.
This book follows Erin, who gets hastily assigned to be a Confidential Informant and has to go undercover as a nanny. Her new handler is the slightly incompetent Cal Bray. Cue fireworks and chemistry and a few fun surprises and hijinks along the way.
Recommend this for fans of:
—> workplace romance (sort of)
—> undercover spy stuff
—> “cracked door” romance (intimacy definitely implied but not really described on page)
—> action and fight scenes (really!)

I have some mixed feelings about this book, but overall I liked it. It was hard to get into at first, I felt like it just didn't totally start to pick up until around 20%. I think the pacing was just a bit off, because it felt like there was A LOT of detail packed into this, with not a lot of time to revisit or expand on some of those details.
Because of that, I also think the ending was a bit rushed. But the plot was intriguing (again, l just wished it could've had a bit more to it, and well thought out without being an overly stereotypical "spy" book. The characters also kept the story alive, even the side and supporting characters, which I loved. I found myself either really loving or really hating ALL the (respective) characters, and I think that despite the fact that we didn't get to super deeply know most of them, their personalities were really well played out. I don't know for sure that I'd buy a physical copy of it, but I think I'd recommend it to the right audience!

Calvin is newly reassigned to the field after an on-the-job injury, and Erin becomes his confidential informant. Together, they work to bust an undercover counterfeit stroller ring. Yes, you read that right. (You know those suckers cost an arm and a leg!)
Meanwhile, hot Agent Bray is working overtime to keep Erin safe from some very dangerous people from her past—and the two of them grow… close.
I won’t spoil anything more, but this was such a fun read. I highly recommend it to Holly James fans or to anyone new to her novels.

The Alias Agenda is a blast! This is about a criminal informant who has basically been forced into working for a government intelligence agency after being caught with her father who is a con man. She gets sent to Del Rio and has a new hot hunky handler, Calvin Bray. Calvin Bray is trying to get enough evidence to arrest a group of moms running a baby gear smuggling ring. He is also the biggest golden retriever and genuinely sincere man. Calvin and Erin work together to try to outrun the ghosts of her pasts while getting his supervisor to have confidence in him after an injury on the job.
I really enjoyed this book! Erin, the FMC is such a survivor of her circumstances and total badass. Agent Bray was once a heroic agent, now fighting to be taken seriously and is the first person in a long time to care about what is best for Erin. Add in three suburban mom's trying to let off some steam after bedtime and an old nemesis and BAM action pack romance fun!

An irresistible mash-up of a spy thriller and a romance. Erin is very good at what she does—assuming different identifies to catch the bad guys and avoid prosecution for her previous misdeeds. When her handler abruptly sends her to infiltrate a smuggling ring led by upper-middle class mothers, Erin is confused. Her new handler Cal doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing and Erin finds herself to be equal parts annoyed and compelled by him. Soon, Erin and Cal realize there is a much bigger case to solve in order to keep Erin safe.
This was delightful. The plot has some pretty heavy elements and the author manages to sprinkle in lighthearted and romantic moments throughout. Erin and Cal have great chemistry. I do think the ending was a bit compressed but it did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. I can’t wait to read whatever the author writes next. 4.5 stars.

This book is definitely a genre mashup, and I loved this mix of action and romance (the author calls it action-rom-dramedy, which is fitting). It’s fun and fast-paced, with a compelling backstory for this secret agent, Erin, who was dragged into the field by her criminal father. She’s now trying to work to uncover the secrets of a wealthy moms’ smuggling ring despite the distracting kindness and hotness of her new handler, Cal.
Erin takes every opportunity to mock Cal for his lack of experience that sometimes puts their operation in jeopardy, but it soon becomes clear that he’ll stop at nothing to keep her safe. 18-year-old Erin Daniels was picked up by the DSA (secret govt agency) after the heist she and her father were working on got interrupted. Instead of sending her to prison, they offered her a job. 10 years later, her newest job is not going as planned and she’s seeing ghosts from the night she was caught. Can she solve her cases and gain her freedom?
This was a fast and entertaining read. And while I recognize this is fiction and we have to suspend belief to an extent, there were several instances that needled me. She’s supposed to be such an expert at spying by now, but she gasps when she overhears conversations she’s eavesdropping on? Same with Agent Bray. He may have been on a desk job for 6 or 9 months, but he was making ridiculous mistakes at the start.

This is a great book! I’d previously read Holly James’ book “The Big Fix”, which is also a spy-action-rom-com (although not related to this book), and this was another hit! The main characters in this book, Erin and Cal, were very relatable and realistic. I loved how confident and independent Erin was, especially in contrast to how Cal could be awkward and caring. The plot was interesting and kept me guessing on what was going to happen next. And the romance that slowly developed between Erin and Cal was sweet and spicy - I really got drawn in and it was easy to root for them.

I couldn’t believe that I got chosen for another Holly James ARC. I read this book in a few hours, I was hooked. I couldn’t stop reading, I wanted to keep reading and see where the story went.
I really enjoyed the story, I liked the main characters, they definitely did develop a strong relationship but I do personally prefer the development to be a little longer… if it was like a month timeframe I’d have this as a 5 star read. It’s definitely a 4 star read, I really enjoy Holly James’ books. The romance isn’t until near the end of the book but I still really enjoyed it. It was giving like Peter and Alice from the night agent

What a fun book! All the excitement of the best action movie with a little sexy romance thrown in. Agent Bray seemed a little bumbling at first and I wasn’t initially convinced he would make a great hero, but he gets his act together and eventually makes a great partner for Erin. Erin is focused and emotionally mature, single mindedly pursuing her opportunity for freedom. The secondary characters like Wallace and Ramesh are nuanced and keep the story engaging.

2.5 rounded up. This story was clever and had potential but the pacing was the biggest issue for me. It started promising and I was enjoying the mom plotline and we drop that for about 20% in the middle then rush back to it for an even more rushed ending. The heist itself was hardly explained and I was wishing more for a Heiress Takes All type setup, a book I think did a great job with intricacy. I think James prior work in this genre was stronger, but I would give another a shot.

How have I never read a Holly James adventure before? That was such a delightful mental getaway of a fast paced unputdownable spy thriller rom com. At times it was outrageous in the best of ways! I just ordered The Big Fix, because I am hooked! 4.5*

This book completely took me by surprise! I am a fan of Holly James' writing and this mash-up of genres is no exception. This drama/romance/comedy had me laughing throughout and was a complete page-turner. I read this in 48 hours!!
It was a wild ride, full of mystery, romance, and emotional depth. Both characters were likable and their personal growth wonderfully developed. The plot kept me guessing but was still light and believable--as believable as infiltrating a suburban mommy group can be, I suppose!
If you are a fan of the Ally Carter series, you will definitely enjoy this one.

Just ok. Very confused about why she set up most of one plot only to completely abandon it in favor of the second plot. I have read books where 2 different plots can co-exist. It felt like she wasted the reader's time getting one familiar with the characters and the plot and it was all for show. She could've used that time to invest more in the other characters. Real odd.

The hijinx was almost secondary to me because of how much I enjoyed the hero and heroine. They both were layered and individuals, and together they had great chemistry. I especially have a soft spot for the strong out the outside, kind soul on the inside hero trope. And (mild spoiler) I loved that at the end, she chose herself.
