Seems like there’s nothing for us old, stubborn, idiotic self-sabotaging ladies who still won’t give it up. Probably because there’s not too many of us; certainly not enough to warrant a chapter in a book like this. Well I wish I was dead, too, thank you very much. But I’m not and I would like a little help. This is great if you haven’t already read everything on the subject published for the last, oh, forty years. Actually it’s a great collection of all the good advice and wisdom of the issue. It’s just that it’s hard to learn anything new about something so old and familiar, and hard to shake.
Anyway, not suffering now so maybe there is something to this book that has helped.
Good starting point on the journey of battling an eating disorder. I especially liked the useful tips on how to plan and do meals and how to handle setbacks. At times though, the book was to superficial for me and includes way to many stories on how patient's overcame their problems.
Before I read this book I checked the reviews and many were saying that there is nothing new in this book, that we know all that, that isn't bad but it's nothing special. Well, I guess it depends on what face of your journey you read it. For my experience, even after years and years of therapy, a lot of reading and many attempts to find a successful way to deal with my healthy way in life with food, I did find this book very helpful. With practical advice that made a lot of sense to me, I learned new things and read again things I knew, which is always great. I will see in future but, now, this book has helped me very much and I highly recommend it.
Some good advice but I am trying to help a friend out who has BED but it is all aimed mostly at bulimia not binge eating disorder. I hope some of the information I have read can help my friend
I have decided not to rate this book because I have not put it to practice as it is 'not the right time' for me to recover from bulimia, I still want to lose a bit more weight etc etc. HOWEVER, I do feel that when I am ready I will re-read this and hopefully benefit from it as it certainly has some good advice/tips...
