Strength In Surrender: Learning To Lean Companion Study

Strength in Learning to Lean Companion Study - Full Color Edition By Katie Marie

What if the very places you’ve called weakness are the places God wants to show His strength?

Strength in Surrender was written as a companion to my memoir Learning to Lean — but it also stands on its own as a Bible study for anyone who’s ever wondered if God could really use them. I know that feeling well. For much of my life, I believed my struggles disqualified me. I had a learning disability, I wrestled with insecurity, and I often felt like I was falling behind everyone else. But the Lord kept showing me that what the world calls limitation, He calls invitation. He was never looking for perfection — only a willing heart.

In this study, we’ll walk through the stories of others in the Bible who felt just like that — unqualified, unseen, or unsure — yet were chosen and anointed by God for something greater. We’ll look at Moses, who doubted his voice. Gideon, who hid in fear. Jeremiah, who said he was too young. Sarah, who laughed at the impossible. Peter, who failed publicly. Paul, who carried a thorn. The servant in the Parable of the Talents, who buried what he’d been given. And the woman with the Alabaster Jar, who gave all she had.

Each one had what looked like a weakness, but every weakness became a place where God’s glory could shine.

Together, we’ll look at their “resumés of grace” — how God turned their doubts into testimonies, and how He’s doing the same in your life. Through Scripture, reflection questions, and journaling prompts, we’ll invite the Holy Spirit to help us see ourselves the way Heaven sees not as failures, but as sons and daughters learning to lean into His strength.

Every lesson

Biblical teaching with historical and personal insight.Reflection moments that connect Scripture to your story.Inner healing pauses to invite Jesus into painful memories.Look Again sections that help you slow down and hear what He’s saying. My heart for this book is that you don’t just study the Bible, you encounter the God of the Bible. The same God who met Moses at the burning bush, who called Gideon “mighty warrior,” and who lifted Peter after his fall is still meeting hearts today.

I don’t write as a teacher who has it all figured out. I write as a woman who’s still learning — one who’s been taught by the Holy Spirit, one step at a time. God took the very thing I thought made me unqualified — my learning struggles — and used it to draw me into His presence. I didn’t learn to read and write from a classroom. I learned sitting with Him, one Scripture at a time. And now, I get to help others do the same.

This study is an invitation to lay down the pressure to be perfect and learn how to lean into the One who already is. You’ll see that strength isn’t something you earn — it’s something you receive when you surrender.

By the time you finish, my prayer is that you’ll see your story as a living testimony — proof that God still uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways. You’ll walk away reminded that every “not enough” can become more than enough in His hands.
