For fans of the Demon Accords. Book 1 of the Demon Accords Generations series.

Seventeen-year-old Craig Blackmore is a first generation child of Golf Alpha One-One-Seven, AKA Greenacres, the heavy gravity and magic starved world that humanity chose as its first colony. Eighteen years after the Vorsook war ended, young Craig is newly orphaned, a fugitive from trouble, and bound for Earth to take a legacy spot at College Arcane. With a scant hope of leaving his troubles behind him, Craig begins life on the home world at the same school his mother once attended. The same school that produced the most powerful witch ever- Declan O'Carroll -- the Steward.

Will he fit in? Can he stay under the radar? Does he have enough magic to stay? Will he meet anyone he can form a connection with? No, No, Yes, and Yes. Because see everything is a cycle, troubles come and go, as do villains and heroes, and then there's this girl...

Expansion is the first in a long list of novels for the fans of the Demon Accords. Buckle up.

Expansion: Demon Accords Generations Book 1
By John Conroe
Loved this except for the abrupt ending. Otherwise, this was terrific! Just like the Demon Accord series, lots of interesting characters, great plot, and twists that are unexpected.

Loved it. The first book in Conroe's new sequel series to The Demon Accords takes place 18 years later. A great group of new characters, along with a few from the previous series.

round 2

I loved College Arcane and the expansion to the Demon Accords-iverse. So this was a welcome surprise.

You don’t *have to* read the Demon Accords to understand everything, but it probably helps in a lot of subtle ways.

I will be buying book 2 when it becomes available.

Amazing Read.

I was afraid when The God Hammer series seemed to end, but, let everyone relax, another home run has been hit!! I could be more pleased and can't wait for the next one.

If you're a fan you'll probably love it, and if you're a new reader, you'll be a bit confused unless you find some cliffnotes of the OG series.

There's a lot of ideas and some personality traits that feel ripped from both of the original series' two MC's, but I personally loved Craig. The final book of the previous series felt a bit underwhelming and I think it's because he lost his passion for that timeline and really wanted to pour it into this new series. It felt similar to what I loved about The original Demon Accords but with fresh faces and some new ideas. My only gripe is that I can really tell the Conroe hasn't really liked Chris and Tanya, his original ML and FL for a few books now, and his bias was getting too obvious, and it's bled off into the new series too because Corra, their daughter is an irrational idiot. I know a lot of fans were really excited to see them as the new MCs for a spinoff series when they were born in TDA, but instead he's made Corra super unlikeable and quite the moron, while Wulf seems apathic and pretty anti-social. I also wish Craig and Vee were a bit less insta-love, I would have rather seen their relationship marinate a bit, but hey I guess shifters know what they want pretty quickly unless you fight it like Stacia did, so I can't really fault the lore. All in all, for a long time fan it was a solid 4.5/5 for me, although I'm self aware enough to know I am pretty biased towards most things TDE.

I was looking forward to reading this, as I'm a fan of this author's writing and greatly enjoyed the original Demon Accords series - or at least the first three-quarters of it. By the end, the series had become so overblown that it felt like little more than sycophantic fawning over the protagonists, and I hoped a reset with a new cast would dial that back. It does, briefly, but the new protagonists begin at such an elevated power level that the story quickly falls into the same rut.

I still enjoyed it. The author has a real talent for writing likable characters and entertaining banter. I just wish there were less of everything: less power escalation, less hero worship, and fewer situations that exist solely to showcase how much wiser and stronger the protagonists are than everyone around them.

Rather than watching young people grow into their abilities, the story has already become about whether the MC wants to instantly crush a challenge or spend a chapter lecturing others about the foolishness of opposing him.

I look forward to the next book with muted enthusiasm.

4.5 Stars. Lost half a star due to open-ended finish.

Conroe's back in top form with this one. It was a smart decision to do a soft reset by jumping to the next generation. Rather than lavishing all the love on Declan, we get to meet a bunch of new characters with new abilities and new challenges.

Sure it's got the same vibe as the first academy book in the series, but I'm up for it.

outstanding urban fantasy!

Thank you John for a new chapter in the Demon Accords story I love so much! How fun to learn about the children of our favorite characters, and a great new character added! John always writes an amazing book! Please give us more Demon Accords stories!

I read tons of Urban Fantasy, and one of my favorite elements is how the author decides on the interaction of modern people and technology with the supernatural. This series brings the relationship of supernaturals and modern tech to a whole new level! How deep the story goes with science, government, and real human emotions and interaction with the supernatural world. By far, John Conroe relates the most realistic approach of any author I've read! And, the plot lines are so superb, I can't put this book down! Amazingly real characters, nonstop unpredictable plot twists, emotional growth, superbly written dialogue, and a fallible MC you want to route for! In fact, the only negative of this series is how it has effected my sleep! I'm up all night reading these nonstop pager turners! Thank you John, you master word-smith!

Solid continuation of a universe that I have been missing

Unlike many spinoffs of universes and worlds that we find in series, this does a really good job of combining the old elements and characters from the Demon Accords, which I loved, and integrating a new set of main characters and moving the previous set of main characters back to an elder/Supporting role while keeping the main characters of this series a focus.

That’s not to say that the original cast of characters, much like the Marvel cinematic universe, are not there working along side of our main characters Craig and Vee - just that they are not the focus of the book.

I found myself very interested in the main character and his story arc. He’s a good blend of qualities much like Chris and Declan, but he has his own personality in story and I liked that.

I also found myself weirdly and inordinately, proud of the kids of the original cast of characters? As if they were real people and I was some random Auntie that was listening to the things that they did and are doing.

At any rate, I can’t wait for the next one to come out and I think this is a really good start to another series of these people that I miss.

OK, here we go -

If you’ve ever read John CONROE‘s books before, you’re gonna love this one. I would’ve thought it difficult if not impossible to keep pulling off such well crafted and engaging books one after the other and yet he’s done it again. There are few people who have found their niche in the universe as well as John Conroe, and I am forever grateful that he has fulfilled the measure of his creation as an author.

Everything in these books, from the cover, the editing, the storyline, the characterizations is all flawless and plotted in such a way that it compels you, involves you and ultimately entertains you. Go buy this book immediately.

Started off kind of meh but got my attention when I started figuring out who some of the people were.

Something like 15(?) years have passed and if any of the characters have made any sort of 'big life changes' between the end of the first series and the start of this one, it was not enough to get my attention. It seems that everyone had found their rut early on and stuck to it. They didn't say if he did or not but I'd guess Levi is still working as a 'book guy', for example.

One big problem I had was at the end, they did a minor villain review. They may as well have wheeled out some random person with the overly dramatic "Dun dun DUN!" music.

It would have had the same effect on me. None save a mild confusion and wondering "Now who the fvck is this?" The cast bloat has long ago reached game of throne levels and unless given some serious hints (Dr. Sing is Tanya's vampire doctor), I have no clue who a lot of the minor cast is.

There were some of the usual Conroe tropes in this book:
1) Ever watch Starship Troopers and notice that everyone in that movie is charismatic? Yeah - same stuff here. No ugly, fat or dumb people make an appearance of any note. Unfortunately, sometimes that does mean that (for plot reasons) some of the otherwise smart people have to do some DUMB things.

2) The women will instantly and irrevocably choose a man and fall in deep love with him, whether they want to or not. Fortunately, this doesn't happen too often in real life as it would lead to the courts being burdened with more no contact orders due to stalking. I've noticed that in all media it is 'less creepy if the woman initiates everything' than to have a man slowly seduce a woman. I've no real opinion on what is right or wrong with any of it but note that the relationship seem to work that way in all of Conroe's books that I've read.

3) A lot of the cast will pop up for what (in a movie) would be a cameo. Just imagine (for example) being the guy who plays Levi. He'd get a call every couple of years to revisit the same part.

4) Cultural stagnation. Imagine if someone would occasionally rip off a line from one of Burt Lancaster's movies. Unless a very, very obscure film buff was around nobody would get it. That is what should be happening for the people using 1980's film references that mean something to Mr. Conroe and me, because I'm super old. Nobody else should understand what they are talking about. In Conroe's books, apparently no films after the 80's (or possibly early 90's) have ever been made. In this book, kids - who reference cultural stuff quite often - should be quoting films that have never been made in our world. That would get a bit WTF though. "You know what they say - a bazooka!" Everyone laughs - except the reader who doesn't get the reference because it's from a made up movie. Unless that movie became a well the author kept going back to until the whole movie plot got laid out (which could be tedious) nobody would get it - or care. Probably better just to leave the extremely outdated (in real life - freakishly outdated in the books) out entirely. It adds nothing to the story. Unless he wants other old readers to get a hit of nostalgia. Remember kids - nostalgia is 'crack' for old people!

There was more but I think that's enough. Yeah, I want the next book to hurry the heck up and get on audio but I have no idea when that will be.

It was good, I would recommend it and I enjoyed it.

I really liked how it’s set a generation ahead of where the last series left off. The unresolved plots from the previous series tie into this series.
Having a whole new planet environment and creatures to play with certainly added a nice dose of ‘new’ to the book world. Although it only really occupies the very first part of the book as the rest of the book takes place on Earth, but Greenacres is talked about allot throughout.
Writing style is as good as ever. No complaints
Story pacing was alright, no complaints.

Craig is a very good protagonist; I was a little worried he was becoming abit to like Declan mid his school experience from the previous series in his self doubt. But that seemed to ease off thankfully.
V didn’t really develop much I thought. Hopefully she comes more into her own in the next book.
Characters were mostly ok, quite a few shallow characters but perhaps they are yet to bloom as it were.

It is interesting that there is a somewhere and a something that Omega can’t access / deal with straight away. which was kinda needed.

Overall, an enjoyable story that successfully advances the Demon Accords world with fresh elements and a new generation, even if some characters and development feel a bit shallow

An Exciting Addition !

As one of my Mother’s Day cards this year stated proudly; “Cool Moms Have Cool Kids”. That’s definitely true in this case too!

Craig Blackmore is a legacy student of Arcane College Vermont, (also said college is in USA, Earth) that qualifier is relevant in his case because he was born on Greenacres or GA117 the first new planet colonised by humans.

Life can be very brutal and unforgiving on GA117, with a heavier gravity than earth and virtually no ambient magic it’s a difficult place to be a witch or a were. An awful lot of the local fauna is aggressive and dangerous, unsurprisingly some it tastes like chicken. Now with his life completely upended he’s going back to the home-world to go to college. It’s a much better option than trusting his own government. College could well be dangerous on its own, after all they have girls there too.

GreatAs a devoted enthusiast who has traversed the Demon Accords series twice, I found Expansion to be an exhilarating evolution of John Conroe’s universe. It successfully mitigates the risk of becoming derivative by introducing a fresh perspective that feels both nostalgic and innovative.
The narrative maintains a propulsive cadence, expanding the lore without sacrificing the core elements that define the original saga. Conroe’s ability to recalibrate the stakes ensures that this new arc is not merely an extension, but a necessary metamorphosis of the world we know. This is a masterful opening gambit for the Rebirth series—essential reading for any veteran of the Accords.

Expansion: sequel to Demon Accords series

Outstanding new sequel series to Conroe's previous works. I highly recommend reading all of Conroe's works in order. Exceptional, imaginative, entertaining reading. I highly recommend these works to anyone with a love, or even curiosity for all things paranormal. Conroe has an admirable gift at combining them all in an intricate weaving of plots and episodes. Outstanding character development. Good reading, well edited, and highly entertaining. Conroe's works are definitely high on my keepers list.

loved it.

I’ve probably read the Demon Accords series at least 5 times by now. Truly one of my favorite series of all time, and I cut my teeth on Tolkien, Glen Cook, David Drake, Steven Brust, John Scalzi, Weber, Ringo, etc. I wasn’t sure if Conroe could hit it out of the park as well as he did with the DA series but he absolutely did with this. Excellent read, and my only wish is that he wrote books as thick as Clancy used to because I blew through this in 2 days. Outstanding beginning to a new world for us DA fans sir!

Next great

I read God Touched over 13 years ago. I have reread the series more than,A few, times and own each book, this one KU but purchased next week. This is a great start to the next generation. Craig is going to fit right in. Was a little disappointed
Pointed in Cora, but when raised a Princess, sometimes it can be hard to not be self absorbed. Write fast John. Oh and a return to the drone wars would be ok too.

fantastic

I keep forgetting how good these books are. I read a lot and some days when I can only find a decent book I notice that I skip a lot. Descriptions of places, random information that’s not really needed. With all of John Conroe’s books I don’t skip. I read every part of the book. They are always well written, nice to read and have great world building. (English is my 2nd language)

fantastic work

I love the new stories of the Demon Accord. Can’t wait to see what Vesta and Craig get up to in the future. And where has his mother been or is it not true? I hope I don’t have to wait to long to read the next book. I read this one too fast.
I have enjoyed all of John Conroe’s books of Demon Accord and his other writings looking forward to reading more of his stories.
Thanks for your imagination

Sorely Missed

You ever had that one artist who goes on a spiritual journey, gives up the deity level guitar artistry just to raise llamas and magic mushrooms? Then that artist breaks up with their hippie parasitic life partner, practices like a madman and the comes back with a vengeance. And, if you are truly blessed, you’re there, front row, at the first comeback concert.

That’s this book. Thank you, Mr. Conroe.

A proper start to a new series

I loved the Demon Accords and was sad when they finished. But now we get to see the next generation of alien/demon ass kickers and I can’t wait to read more about them!

I like that not all of them are on the same side and that, like some of the humans in the DA, some have allied themselves with the Adversaries of humanity, Omega, and Mother Earth.

Please write quickly, Mr. Conroe. We’re all waiting!

Think I may become a fan again.

This is my first book read of Mr. Conroe's since the mother earth incident. The actions in my opinion ran so counter to the characters as written that it completely turned me off to this series as a whole. This book was written well and the characters, for the most part, are what I expect from this author. Meaning excellent. Will read the next book and am contemplating going back and finishing the other books.

super powered teen hero

Great to have a teen superhero who always says and does the right thing- makes for cozy, engaging reading. Kept me cheerful and turning the pages.
Teen moves to posh school in earth when his father dies, and finds his tough frontier training in keeping his cool and responding fast to threats is just what you need at a school packed with witches and werewolves.

Wow just wow

I loved everything about this book. The new generation is full of heavy hitters. I am not fond of one of the children but I assume they will grow in time. It is nice to see the old guard and thought they would be the major draw, but surprisingly I am invested in Craig, Vee, Hannah, and the rest of Craig's adopted family. I can't wait for the next book.

Great contiunation series!

Excited to be back in the DA world. Intros some fun new characters and concepts. Same hard hitting action and fight scenes as well as bold take no prisoners characters who don't back down. Hope we get to see more Cora and Wulf in the next book. Felt they got sidelined like they used to in the old books, but excited to see where this new series leads!

Great Start to DA Next Generation!

The joy is back!! It is so refreshing to see the snark and fun return in this new series. I loved the Demon Accords but the last few books since Blood Cull felt really heavy and dark. Bloodlines felt like a disappointing afterthought. It is so good see that the magic is back pun intended. Can’t wait for the next book :)

WOW

Another great story from John Conroe. I was sad when The Demon Accords Series ended as I had enjoyed all of them and even purchasing many of the books. Now with the Expansion series I am thrilled with the new story line that still keeps familiar characters from the The Demon Accords. This is a very good book.

Conroe consistently amazes me

I cannot emphasize how good his books have turned out to be and how fleshed out his characters are. I am so invested in his demon Accord series that I impatiently wait for the next novel. I didn't think it possible but he has managed to create a new hero in the same universe and I am just as invested.

Excellent

As usual, excellent writing skills resulting in an outstanding first book of, I hope, a long new series placed in the universe of "The Demon Accords". A magical Earth continues the fight against an alien invader; new supernatural characters continue battling magical and technological foes.
