I’m on my knees with my head under his kilt, his fist gripping my hair as the Highland winds rattle the castle walls. He tastes like whisky and regret—but it’s a mistake I’ll gladly make over and over again.
Alistair MacRae is 6’3” of stoic restraint, with an unforgiving jawline, piercing blue eyes, and the body of a man who still cuts down his own trees. A brooding Scottish billionaire with a castle full of stories and a past that still haunts him. His heart is as frozen as the loch in winter, and he seems determined to keep it that way.
I came to the Scottish Highlands for work—and for an escape—but we clash from the moment I arrive. Every interaction between us ignites a spark we both pretend not to feel.
Yet the more I uncover about the past of this place, the more I begin to question my own future—and I discover more than I ever bargained for.
When a snowstorm descends upon the Highlands, the castle grounds plunge into darkness. Our simmering tension turns to heat, and one reckless night lights a fire that changes everything.
Now the Christmas bells echo through the halls, counting down my final days before I return to my life in New York.
But walking away is harder than I ever imagined, because this Highlander with the cold heart and icy exterior—who swore he couldn’t love again—has already started to thaw.
And I’m no longer sure whose heart is melting first—his, or mine.
Finding the Right Partner to Heal their Broken Hearts - The project based in Scotland came at the right time for Charlotte, as she had just broken up with her boyfriend, so accepting it felt like kismet. Alistair’s life was all about restoring the family home ever since his his heart break, so the last thing on his mind was a relationship, but he felt an inexplicable connection with Charlotte, that he didn’t know how to deal with. Working together brought Charlotte and Alistair closer and even though they tried to keep their feelings to themselves, their hearts soon got involved.
Unfortunately, Alistair’s insecurities led him to react negatively when Charlotte informed him that the project had been completed, which caused him to rebuff her offer to stay longer. However, Alistair realised his mistake too late to stop her from leaving, so he put his mind to doing everything possible to make sure he was able to convince her to return. Luckily, Charlotte accepted Alistair’s invitation, where they finally acknowledged their feelings for each other and agreed to embark on their journey towards the future they deserved.
This is a heartwarming romance story set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, where two broken hearted souls heal their hearts whilst trying to protect the history of the home, family and home. I was glued to the pages of this slow build romance story from the beginning and didn’t take a break, as I waited on tenterhooks hoping the main character would find a way to get their well deserved happily ever after. You will absolutely love reading this book, which will leave you wanting to visit Scotland.

Twelve Nights with the Silver Fox by Bella Chandler delivers exactly what I love about her romances — emotion, tension, and a beautifully earned happily-ever-after.
This is Alistair and Charlotte’s story — two people scarred by the past but brave enough to reach for something new. Charlotte, a passionate artifact appraiser, meets Alistair, the brooding owner of Dunhaven Estate in Scotland. Their initial clash is electric: she’s vibrant and warm; he’s guarded and icy. But underneath it all, the chemistry sizzles.
When the appraisal ends, Alistair pushes her away — and instantly regrets it. His redemption arc, marked by one unforgettable line (“And in that silence, I swear I can hear it — my own heart breaking”), absolutely got me.
Bella Chandler gives us a story of vulnerability, forgiveness, and second chances wrapped in a wintery, emotional romance. Loved it!
After her boyfriend makes a career move without talking to her, which takes him across the world, Charlotte finds herself alone for the holidays. This is the perfect opportunity to take an appraisal job in Scotland, where she meets Alistair, the Laird of the estate. Alistair can do without someone poking around the estate, but once he sees how much Charlotte cares about what she's doing, he's more open to assisting and sharing the history. But her time comes to an end, and Alistair retreats back into himself. So what happens when they're given a second chance?
Alistair and Charlotte get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.
I felt their happy ending was extremely rushed, and after a year of no contact, for Charlotte to just accept his proposal like that was out of character. And they must have immediately gotten married if people were already calling her Duchess six months later. Being someone who works in the history field, I did appreciate the small nuances of following the history and knowing how things were preserved over time, as well as the proper preservation of items within a home. I do wonder how much of what Alistair had went up to auction to help pay for the upkeep of the estate, and how much instead was raised with preservation funds to keep the items with the family.
OMG I not only LOVED reading this romance book by Bella, but I got a whole extra hour of reading it when the clocks turned back an hour. HOT, ROMANTIC and MOUTHWATERING is three words to describe this picture-perfect romance book. I have always LOVED reading books written by Bella, but I didn't know if I would enjoy a Scottish Billionaire romance story, but OMG I did and then some. You definitely should read this 5/5-star book about Charlotte and Alistair.

This is a charming and entertaining love story that is set in northern Scotland. Duke Alistair MacRae left London to live in his ancestral home near Inverness after an embarrassing breakup. Charlotte Dawson visits the castle to catalog its treasures. Their love story is a feel good story and highly recommended.
A chance to spend time in a Scottish Castle and meet the Duke.
A storyline that history and antiques lovers will fall in love with. A love story that brings joy and tears. The characters are believable and fit the storyline well. The highlands come to life in the winter and snow storms. The quiet calms the restless minds.
Just a wonderful love story and so much historical detail. Outstanding characters and so well written you feel like you are living it with them. Just a marvelous read.
