A string of horrific, inexplicable murders. A single black rose left at the scene of each crime. And in the peaceful coastal town of Trinity Bay, Theresa Zane has just met the man of her dreams. Literally. He is an incubus, with the power to touch the sleeping minds of women and waken their darkest and most hidden desires. His influence turns wives against husbands, mothers against sons, friends against friends. No one is safe. Theresa least of all. For it is Theresa he wants. Theresa he must have. He will do anything to win her. Anything at all. Even kill. The haunting image of black roses will lead Theresa to Seacliff, a house with a troubled past. But not even the help of three dead girls and a mysterious necklace may be enough to save her.
Bibliophilia Templum review https://bibliophiliatemplum.wordpress.com/2025/02/03/black-roses/ I love this novel. I love reading this novel. Black Roses by the talented Christine Morgan is an immersive and engrossing story, the kind of reading experience that makes the rest of your existence fade into the background. Although this is one of Christine Morgan’s older works, it’s still one of my favorite books.
Black Roses by Christine MorganBlack Roses is book 1 of The Trinity Bay books, a 3-book series aptly blurbed: In the small, quiet coastal region of Trinity Bay, California, dark secrets abound and bad stuff keeps happening. Because, yes, there are secrets, dark secrets, and bad stuff happens and happens and happens, but there is so much more to this tale. I rarely compare one author’s work to another’s because perception is everything. That being said, I personally found Black Roses to be reminiscent of classic John Saul, another favorite author of mine. It’s a rich tapestry of poignant supernatural and human elements. It has compelling suspense, stark horror, and engaging characters.
But speaking of the horror herein, while this is not extreme horror, it is horror, and some of the violence and subject matter may be a bit much for some readers. Consider the intriguing tagline on the cover—a novel of demonic sexual obsession—and understand demons don’t set boundaries.
As I said, I loved it. It’s suspenseful, horrifying, evocative, and downright engrossing. It’s a good story, a dark story, and did I mention one of the characters is the mysterious demon itself? Yeah, demon perspective. If you enjoy good horror, you want to read this.
This is a steamy paranormal thriller where an incubus reaches into women's minds while they sleep. I'm looking forward to reading other books by this author.
