This is one of the rare few LitRPG series I actually kind of like. Unfortunately, this book is kind of boring filler without much in the way of payoff.

In progress thoughts:
I still love this series, but I don't know if I like Sybilla all that much. She doesn't seem to respect her sisters very much, and anyone else not at all. She's constantly doing unpleasant things in a secretive manner without considering how they affect others. I hope that she straightens out a little because at 59% she's a little insufferable.

I feel like Amelie's teasing about Evie's lack of interest in romance has graduated into full on bullying because who brings a stranger into your sister's bedroom/bathroom unannounced just to get a reaction? It's not very nice. All in all, so far it feels like both sisters are goofing around while Evie is stressed and trying to be a good steward of the land she controls.

Oh also the "lore" entries are so up their own ass with purple alliteration that they're unreadable.

Some bad Juju

I really enjoyed the first two books in the series. The story in this one was equally as good, but one thing ruined it for me:

Sibylla. I mean, Amélie was bad enough. Evelyn just took crap from everyone.

Sibylla was a complete and utter @ $ $. Arrogant, selfish, conceited. She went off and did things without consulting others, and she didn't seem to have a conscience. She didn't have a care at all about what other people thought or what she did to them. It was all about her. And even worse? Everybody let her get away with it. The ends don't always justify the means. This character really ruined the story for me.

I feel like the MC got very little progression in this one. All the side characters are more competent than her and it seems like she never learns from her fights at all. Every fight she has is done with her slamming her metaphorical face into the problem rather than showing any competent use of her many abilities.

So in this book we get more insight into world building and more of a reason as to what started this all. I am excited for when the next book drops!

I read this on RoyalRoad some time ago. A lot was familiar, but enough changed that made me glad I listened. There are times this book dragged, but overall, a great story. I really wish I could find book 4. I hope it is being written.
