This was such a sweet & spicy story about reclaiming your life in the face of expectations and all the weapons trying their best to prosper. I loved the tenderness between the characters just as much as their hilarious inner monologues. It had heart, humor, and healing in all the right places.

Demi, the beautiful country girl that loves her cafe and town to its core, fighting to keep traditions alive
Lyle, business mogul that beds the women and sends them in their way.
This is until he walks into Summer Thyme cafe with all the confidence a man could have, only to be caught up in the warm comforting notes of Demi.
They fall hard and fast, but family secrets and holding on to the past threaten their love.

Demi had me ready to come through the book. All the back and forth, one minute you want him the next you don’t. Baby take time to heal or leave that man where he at.
Now Lyle, why you wasn’t upfront with that lady about everything all at once?!?! Are you tryna secure your mmc position or what?!?!

Just What I Needed!

When I say a book gave me all the feels, I mean it had me blushing, swooning, smiling, and fanning myself like I was right there in the story. And Open for Business did just that.

Reading this felt like watching the cutest, spiciest Hallmark movie with its small town feel and southern charm, the kind you never want to end. Both Demi and Lyle had their hearts guarded for good reason, but once they met, all that started to change.

If you’re like me and love a good second chance at love story, this one’s a must-read.

This is my first book by this author and it definitely will not be my last. The writing is beautiful, the southern atmosphere is immersive, and I have never laughed out loud this many times while reading. Not only were Demi and Lyle such memorable main characters, but the side characters were hilarious and lovable too, especially Austin and Dess who were my absolute favorites. I loved how unique Demi and Lyle’s situation was.

Demi is this sassy, fiery café owner and rightfully so after the heartbreak she experiences in the first few pages. Then there is Lyle, this mysterious and fine pecan man who shows up at her café. From that moment on they are smitten. But they are also stuck because Demi has closed herself off from love and Lyle does not do relationships due to the scars from his upbringing. Still, after another run-in, they agree to go out, and from there the vibes are perfect. Then Lyle almost got on my nerves with that cold shoulder after the deed. Thankfully he pulled it together.

What I was not prepared for was the reveal of who he truly was and why he was actually in town which was to tear down the local businesses, including Demi’s café, and turn them into luxury condos. I was locked in even more from that moment. When he finally explained, I felt the tension break in the best way. Their date night, the strawberry field scene, and the strawberry shortcake moment in the café with Bob Marley playing were all so vivid, they felt like a movie.

But of course, the beautiful moments come with bombshells. Chileeeee. As soon as they mentioned another child I said, “I KNOW it ain’t trashbox?” 😭 (IYKYK.) I felt sick for them. Dating your own sister is DIABOLICAL. And finding out at the fair, in front of everybody? Wild.

The mom knowing the truth and staying silent while pitting her sons against each other made everything worse. Walt’s rage going so far that he blew up Summer Thyme had me stunned. But the reunion with Demi’s parents was such a sweet moment. Hearing them tell her it is okay to move on, to live for herself, and talking about the grandbabies Dess was going to have melted my heart.

What truly surprised me was Demi rejecting Lyle’s proposal when she woke up. But it made perfect sense. It was powerful watching her choose herself for once. And when she finally came back for the surprise graduation barbecue and said yes it felt so satisfying and so earned.

This was an amazing story. I would love to see these characters again. Their journey was beautiful, raw, and real. The moments that stuck with me the most were the ones where Demi learned to let go and when Lyle said Home is Demi. Because sometimes home really is not a place, it is a person. Loved it!

This was my first book by Britt W., and I am officially a fan. Between the drama, the heartbreak, the betrayal, the love, and just the right amount of spice, this story had a hold on me up until the very last word.

Demielle and Lyle are two young people carrying the wounds of life. After the death of his father, Lyle is focused on continuing his father’s legacy by ensuring the growth and success of their family reality company. Love and relationships are of no interest to him. He is focused on work, legacy, and staying in control.

Then we have Demielle. From the outside looking in, she seems to have it all together. She is the owner of a very successful café and appears to be living a beautiful life. But, behind the beautiful smile lies pain and heartache. Losing her parents broke her heart, and the betrayal of her fiancé shattered what was left. So, Demielle poured everything she had into her business and locked up her heart for good.

But, all it takes is one look, one interaction, for Lyle to fall for Demielle. And guys, he falls hard! Though love was never in the plans, Lyle is determined to climb every wall and knock down every obstacle to get to Demielle’s heart.

This was a great read. Lyle’s relentless pursuit of Demielle was sweet and beautiful. Despite this being a somewhat emotional read, I found myself laughing a lot while reading. These two had such great banter and their chemistry jumped off the page. I really liked how playful and flirty they were with each other. For the girls who love the spice…this one is for you.

I also really loved that both characters stayed true to themselves throughout the story. Demielle’s personal growth was one of my favorite parts of the story and that was evidenced by the decision she made toward the end of the story. That took me for a loop, but I absolutely loved it!

Overall, 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 was a cozy, emotional, and humorous read that had drama, healing, and passion. I really liked and recommend this read.

Coming straight out of the gate with a mess at an engagement party she didn’t even want to be at — because it didn’t even feel like her — I knew this book was going to have me hooked. The scandal alone was enough to pull me in, but finding out that the girl he was cheating with was her best friend? That was when I knew the drama was going to be real. Your haters always sneak in close.

What I loved most was the chemistry between Lyle and Demi. The tension, the passion, and yes — the sex scenes? Chef’s kiss. They weren’t just spicy for no reason — they showed how connected they were and how deep their bond was getting. I had a strong feeling Lyle wasn’t going to tell Demi his true identity, and honestly… the more they fell for each other, the more I forgot about it too. That’s how well written their connection was.

This love story was genuinely beautiful. They went through real struggles, real pain, real fear — and still chose each other. They fought through everything, and just when I thought it was really over for them… I was sitting there with real thug tears. I didn’t expect the emotional rollercoaster at the end, but it hit me hard.

And the happily ever after? It warmed my heart in the exact way I needed. It felt earned, it felt soft, and it felt right.

This story gave romance, drama, passion, and healing all in one. I’m so glad I picked it up — five stars, no hesitation.

Arc Review:

5 spicy, romantic stars

Open for Business surprised me in the best way. What starts as a cute meet-cute quickly turns into a passionate, chemistry-heavy romance with secrets, tension, and two characters who feel REAL.

Demielle is newly single and trying to rebuild her life after catching her fiancé cheating with her best friend — at their engagement, no less. Now she’s pouring everything into her café, Summer Thyme, staying in her lane, minding her business… until he walks in.

Lyle.
Pecan-colored, fine, mysterious, smelling like Fresh Prince and bad decisions.
They flirt, they vibe, and before she even gets his name… he’s gone.

The dual POV is where this book shines.
One of them falls HARD — fast.
The other? Might be carrying motives that complicate the entire connection.

Once secrets collide and business starts to blur into pleasure, the heat rises QUICK. This romance is flirty, emotional, and genuinely spicy. Their chemistry snaps off the page, and the payoff is worth every moment of tension.

If you love:
✔️ Black romance
✔️ Meet-cute with REAL spark
✔️ Café settings
✔️ Mystery-man energy
✔️ Spice that delivers
✔️ Secrets + passion
✔️ A HEA that feels earned

You’ll love this one.

A cute beginning.
A messy middle.
A passionate, satisfying end.
I ate it up. 🔥

Open for Business gave me that small-town comfort, but with enough chaos and emotion to keep me hooked from page one. Demi is juggling grief, responsibility, and a whole lot of pressure, yet she’s still pushing forward with a softness that makes you want everything to work out for her. And then here comes Lyle — smooth, successful, and walking into her life like he owns the place. The spark between them is instant, but what got me was how naturally their connection grows as they’re both trying to heal from past wounds. It’s tender, it’s messy, it’s grown… exactly the kind of romance that feels believable.

What I loved most is that Britt W. doesn’t just hand these characters a love story — she makes them earn it. There are secrets, setbacks, and moments that have you saying, “Oh, y’all really going through it.” But through all that, the story still manages to feel warm and hopeful. The banter feels real, the emotions feel lived-in, and the twists kept the book from ever falling into predictable territory. By the time I finished, I felt like I had front-row seats to a whole journey, not just a meet-cute. Demi and Lyle are easy to root for, and this book proves Britt W. knows how to blend heart, humor, and heat into something special.

Just recently finished reading this one.... and it was such a beautiful read.

Set in the fictional southern town of Ruevielle, this story follows Demielle... a small-town café owner, and Lyle... a man who walks into her life completely unexpected. What starts off sweet and easy slowly turns complicated as truths begin to surface and emotions get tested.

What I really loved was the Black love, the small-town southern charm, and how grief, family, and personal wounds were woven into the story. The characters felt real, layered, and human… the kind you actually care about as you’re reading.

Britt W. never miss with bringin' her characters to life. You can truly visualize the town, the relationships, and the emotions unfoldin' on the page. And yes… the spice was spicin’ 🌶️🌶🌶 🤣😏 grown, tasteful, and right on time.

If you enjoy southern romance, small-town vibes, emotional depth, and love stories that ain't perfect but feel real, add this one to your TBR NOW. Definitely recommend.

Quick SIDE NOTE✅️: Agave really said “I’m multi-purpose” ‘cause listen… it wasn’t just sweetenin’ tea that night 😮‍💨😂 IYKYK ... and if NOT then you better go find out 🤣

a romance drama

Open for Business wastes no time jumping straight into chaos. The FMC finds out her fiancé has been cheating on her with her best friend… at her engagement party no less … literally hunched over in a closet. Whew. And honestly, the theme of deception this month has been a little too relatable because if I ever wrote a book about my life, betrayal has almost always come from people I once called friends.

After calling off the engagement, the FMC swears off men completely… until she meets him. The kind of man who sweeps you off your feet, checks all the boxes, and feels almost too good to be true. And of course, because this is a romance with drama, he is. Turns out he’s the owner of the company actively trying to force her out of her business. She doesn’t know this at first, but when she finds out, the betrayal hits just as hard as discovering her fiancé’s cheating.
I won’t spoil the rest, but just know this book is packed with deception, family drama, lies, publicity stunts, and a whole lot more mess. It’s emotional, frustrating at times, and very “why do people keep lying to women who are already trying to survive?”

Open for Business is the kind of story that sneaks up on you — tender, reflective, and full of heart. Britt W. delivers a southern romance that’s equal parts charm and healing, showing that love often finds us right when we stop looking.

Demielle “Demi” Summers is a woman rebuilding from heartbreak, holding tight to her peace one coffee cup at a time. Lyle Chancellor is the man who seems to have it all — the sharp mind, the success, the confidence — yet still feels the quiet ache of something missing. When business brings him to Ruevielle, their worlds collide in a way that feels destined, but never easy.

What makes this story shine is its depth. Beyond the romance, Britt W. touches on gentrification, community roots, and the complicated beauty of family — the secrets that shape us and the grief that teaches us how to love again. Having recently lost my father, Demi’s journey of finding herself after loss hit incredibly close to home. Her strength, vulnerability, and willingness to accept love again made this book feel like a gentle reminder that healing and love can coexist.

Britt W.’s Open for Business is a tender, soulful Southern romance that beautifully explores healing, forgiveness, grief, and the courage to love again. Through the story of Demielle “Demi” Summers and Lyle Chancellor, the author crafts an emotional journey of learning to trust yourself—and someone else—after life has knocked you down.
Demi is a heroine shaped by loss and quiet strength. After heartbreak leaves her wary of vulnerability, she devotes herself to her small-town café, Summer Thyme, where the act of creating comfort for others is part of her own healing. Lyle, a polished real estate developer, arrives in Ruevielle with business on his mind, but beneath his perfectly tailored exterior, he, too, carries the weight of unspoken emptiness. Their first spark is undeniable, but what makes this story shine is how that spark evolves into a slow, meaningful burn rooted in trust and self-discovery.
Themes of grief and forgiveness pulse through every page. Demi’s journey is about granting herself permission to feel joy without guilt—an acknowledgment that moving forward is not a betrayal of the past. Lyle’s role is not to “fix” her but to meet her where she is, proving that love can be both a refuge and a catalyst for growth. Britt W. captures this healing with lyrical, heartfelt prose, reminding readers that sometimes the storms we fear most are the ones clearing the way for a brighter tomorrow.
The romance is deeply intimate and affirming, celebrating Black love with moments of spiritual resonance and physical chemistry(the spice was spicing! One word: agave) that feels both raw and tender. The novel’s message is powerful: even after profound loss, love can rise again if you keep your heart open—if you allow yourself to be, as Britt W. so perfectly puts it, “open for business.”
This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys Southern charm, second-chance love stories, and romances that honor both vulnerability and resilience. Open for Business is a love letter to rediscovering yourself, forgiving the past, and embracing the joy that waits on the other side of pain.

ARC Review‼️ This book was such a good time! It was funny, sweet, sexy and there was even some spirituality slipped in.

It pulls you right in. The beginning is messy! 😆 Then it settles into what feels like an adorable Black Hallmark movie. Small town cafe owner, Demi meets the handsome, wealthy stranger, Lyle. They are cute, flirty and heavy on the banter.

But then you get to that first sex scene…😳🫠 red alert!🚨red alert! 🚨 Mr. Lyle aka “Pecan”, ain’t nothin nice! Don’t let the manners and suits fool you. 😮‍💨 And Demi is here for all the shenanigans!!
Open for Business takes us on a heartfelt journey as Lyle and Demi navigate blossoming love, intense passion, unresolved grief and dreams deferred. And Demi gets “cracked like a wishbone.” 🙌🏾 What does the future look like when your soulmate starts off as your opp?? 🤔

Okay, first of all, this book was not what I expected in the best way. I thought I was signing up for a cute little small town romance… but Britt came in with the DRAMA, the HEART, and the HEAT.

Demi is just that girl..sweet, hardworking, but not to be played with. She’s fighting to keep her family’s café afloat when she meets Lyle, who’s giving smooth and mysterious.

This book had me hollerin’, laughing, and lowkey emotional all at once. It’s one of those stories that feels not over-the-top or fairytale perfect, just grown folks trying to figure love and life out. And the writing is natural. The dialogue sounds like how me and my girls talk, and I live for that.

And if you think you know how this book is gonna end, you’re completely wrong. I was not expecting half of the wild plot twists I endured — and I mean that in the best way. This is one of those books that’s better than watching a messy rom-com on Netflix.

✨ ARC Review — Open for Business by Britt W. ✨
📚 Releases 11/18/25

Open for Business delivered all the cozy small-town Hallmark energy, but with extra spice, drama, and heart, and I was absolutely here for it. Demi and Lyle are both navigating heavy pasts, learning to let go, heal, and step into who they’re meant to be. And even with secrets popping up at every turn, they still find a way to grow together.

You can feel Britt W.’s personality woven through every page—the humor, the warmth, the chaotic charm—and it kept me laughing and fully invested from start to finish.

If you love small-town romance with depth, drama, and characters worth rooting for, add this one to your TBR! 🍑📚✨

Open for Business 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This love story between Demi & Lyle is deep and rich, surrounded by family & community drama, and wrapped up beautifully in the end.

Demi, like so many black women, is holding on to the dream she believes she should have, when it’s abruptly and publicly taken from her. The first scene/chapter is so intense and I wondered how Demi would come back from that!

Lyle comes on the scene with—what appears to be—one purpose and we see it evolve into something much more. Family secrets threaten to tear relationships apart but lead to much needed healing.

I loved the way the story wrapped up & I can’t wait for the next one.

Demi and Lyle

This beautiful cover drew me in but I knew from the reviews there'd be some spiciness to it! This was a great love story set in a small town with lots of secrets and drama. Both Demi and Lyle carried heartbreak that caused them bitterness but they still had desires for love. Demi endured a vicious heartbreak from two people she loved. Lyle had mommy issues making it difficult for him to find love. Demi and Lyle's attraction to each other was pure and him showing her what she was missing had me giddy. Her sister Desi and best friend Austin were hilarious as well. Looking forward to learning more about her cousin with the special gift!

When I say I enjoyed this book I mean it! It gave me all the feels while reading it. I’m use to the hood books and this was a nice break from those stories. But don’t get it twisted it’s some drama in it! Adding this to my physical book collection is a must.

I loved this story so much Demi really could have turned left with the things she went through but she didn’t let it change the bomb person she was. Being the light helped Lyle realize how much love can make a difference ! Ahh it was my first read from this author and I loved it so much!

Brava!

My first time reading this author. This book was so enjoyable! Great mix of relatable characters, their reactions to love and loss. With nice spice, a bit of intrigue and unexpected twists also. Colloquial wisdoms that I took note of, as well as some black mysticism and spirituality. Let me go find another book immediately.
