I wanted to prove myself on this ranch… not fall for him, kiss him, and end up carrying his baby.
I came to Ironwood Bluff to follow my dream, not fall for the most irritatingly sexy cowboy in Texas..
Zane Lawson is every kind of off-limits, single dad, widowed, and built like sin in a black Stetson,
He’s doing his best to raise his little girl who’s already wrapped me around her finger.
But one night changed everything between us. A storm, a kiss, and suddenly, every line we swore not to cross vanished.
Now I’m tangled in the arms of a man who swore he’d never love again after his loss.
And somehow, this man, this adorable little girl, and this messy life is starting to feel like home.
But I’m still the outsider his family wishes would just disappear.
And when I find out I’m carrying his child… The truth hits harder than any storm.
I’m terrified. This isn’t just about passion anymore. It’s about taking chances… and whether love can survive his past Ranchers Unexpected Love is stand-alone book as part of the Ironwood Bluff Ranch Series.
Rancher’s Unexpected Love begins the Ironwood Bluff Ranch series. Take one still grieving widower rancher, his adorable little girl, pair them with a former rodeo barrel racer determined to prove that she has the skills and the grit to be a ranch hand on his vast ranch… and some of his vile family members out to cause trouble in any fashion imaginable, and you have one amazing start to a new series. Olivia Kay is a new-to-me author, and I’ll definitely be following this series.
There were so many times I wanted to smack Zane upside his head (as my grandmother would say) for his hot/cold/affectionate/indifferent attitude toward Josie. Man, make up your mind! His mother and sister, I could have easily and without guilt tied them up in the desert and let the rattlesnakes get them… same family anyways! (No, I’m not normally a violent person, but those nasty women got my dander riled up but good.)
I adored Josie and her grit, her wit, and her determination to excel in a man’s (supposed, not many female ranch hands around) profession without backing down from anyone. She’s smart, attractive, and could make Zane’s head spin with little effort. She deserved her happy ever after ending, Zane could come along for the ride, in my opinion. Yes, I liked Josie more than Zane, but together they really set my ereader on fire. Zane is so stuck in the past with his unwarranted guilt that he’s almost willing to let this second chance at love slip right past him and his precious daughter, Lila.
I loved everything about Rancher’s Unexpected Love by Olivia Kay. It’s well-written, emotional, steamy in parts, sweet and tender in others, and completely drew me into their world. If that’s the kind of Modern Western/Contemporary Romance that sets your heart on fire, then you’ll love Zane and Josie’s story.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or the author’s team via Booksprout, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review, giving my personal opinion about this book.*
I downloaded this book after viewing a post on social media. I am so glad I did. Zane is a widower running a ranch and raising his daughter Lila. The memories of his wife preventing him and his family from moving forward, enjoying life out of fear of loss. Josie, a former barrel racer, gets a job at the ranch to join her friend Emery who already works at Lawson Ranch. Their electric connection scares both of them. Zane not believing she’ll last or stay and Josie is determined to prove herself and to find a place to finally call home.
For Zane and his family it was a great story of loss and the impact on not only the people it touches but the land and home itself a and how hard it is to accept and move on without feeling as if you’re betraying your past. With Zane’s daughter Lila being the catalyst for hope.
Josie was a great female lead. Never feeling like she fit in anywhere including her family. Josie was strong, stubborn and determined. She knew her worth and wouldn’t settle for less.
The path to their HEA was hard fought, heartbreaking at times. You wanted to hug Josie and scream at Zane. Eventually life teaches him value
Overall, this was a mediocre story. I wanted to like it more based on the books description, but I felt like there were inconsistencies through out the book with character details. For example, one scene the daughter had pig tails and then a few minutes later she had a pony tail. It was also very difficult to follow the time line, as it seemed to jump around and even changing settings without actually stating it until later while you are reading. The foundation of Josie and Zane’s relationship was nonexistent and the book just started off with not much development of their characters or how their relationship actually started. It irritated me seeing the use of the same descriptions over and over again through much of the book as well. I mostly skimmed my way through it since I already committed to reading the book. I’ve read other novels much more developed and well written than this one. This is not a book I would read again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
this is book one in the Ironwood Bluff Ranch series, and it features Zane Lawson and Josie Hart. He’s living his life, stuck in the past, with a wife that has been gone from this earth for 3 years. He has a daughter that is starving for a mother‘s love. Zane and Josie have explosive chemistry, but he fights it every step of the way. His reluctance to move on, in spite of the fact that he’s in love with her, is frustrating and irritating to see. His inability to defend her in the face of his family is extremely irritating. He’s a great rancher, but he isn’t so great when it comes to his feelings. He’s a procrastinator and extremely fickle.
Zane is a sexy, brooding cowboy. His refusal to stand up for her through many confrontations with his mother and sister has made this story a little less for me. I think the ranch hands were much more entertaining and I can’t wait for their stories!
This is the first in a new series, and this is Zane and Josie’s story. Zane is a widowed, single dad to his adorable little girl, as well as being a rancher. Josie is sassy firecracker, and she is determined to prove she is capable of working on the ranch. A storm, and a kiss, changes everything. This is a well written easy to read story, which is emotionally charged, with family dynamics, friendships, intrigue, loss, grief, secrets, challenges, engaging and relatable characters, redemption, healing, taking chances, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and fun addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Zane is a widowed, a father of a little girl called Lila. Zane runs his ranch with like a well oiled machine. His heart has been locked down about from Lila, smiling is not something he does. That is until Josie. A sassy new ranch worker, who doesn’t know how to back down. Losing face is not what she can handle. These two have chemistry, but his walls and her stubbornness result in humour and banter. One kiss and all changes, walls break down and stubbornness becomes gentle. The chemistry between them is amazing This book has family, grief, humour and full on romance.

-A heartfelt small-town romance where grief meets second chances. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Zane, a widowed rancher and devoted single dad, finds his quiet life upended by Josie, a fiery, determined ranch hand. Their banter sparks, a storm brings one unforgettable kiss, and love slowly takes root amid family drama and healing hearts. Sweet, emotional, and full of charm—this cowboy romance is impossible to put down. I recommend.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "RANCHERS UNEXPECTED LOVE" I thoroughly enjoyed this interesting, emotional off limits single dad romance, dealing with loss, secrets, grief, healing, humor & undeniable hot chemistry. Zane Lawson is a widowed rancher with an adorable little daughter who's has Josie who works on his ranch in Ironwood Bluff Texas wrapped around her little finger. Josie is tough & wants to prove she's strong enough to work Zane's ranch, the banter back forth between these two is humorous, she's sassy weaving her wiles around him. Josie & Zane end up in a heated kiss changing it all between them, she's an outsider his family would love for her to leave, will they end up getting their HEA a page turner you don't want to miss.
A fast sweet romance with a mule headed rancher and a hard working woman who won’t be ran off by him. I thought Zane needed to be strapped to the wild gelding so some sense could have been pounded into him. He drove me batty with his hot cold attitude towards Josie. Josie had a good one liner when she said rope the starts! Eventually things work out but Emory almost stole the show from Josie! Thanks Olivia Kay for the advance copy.
Ranchers Unexpected Love by Olivia Kay is the first book of the Ironwood Bluff Series. Josie and Zane's story is emotional and heartfelt. Zane is the widowed single dad and Josie is a former barrel racer wanting to prove herself as a ranch hand. Their story is written with tension, spice and chemistry. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series!.

Josie- no matter what she does or how hard she works she gets laughed at, told she doesn’t belong, but she won’t quit because she isn’t a quitter! She sputters at herself, and the tools that don’t seem to cooperate with her, but in the end she gets the job done. The whole town is full of gossip concerning her. She has one good girl friend, and a boss that is way to handsome and grumpy!
I got this book as an ARC copy. Let me say this story of Josie and Zane captured me so hard that I didn't put it down until I was finished. The story captured me quickly and pulled me in! Full of fun banter and stubbornness kept me enthralled to keep reading until I finished. Great story plot and characters. I definitely and highly recommend this one!
A stubborn cowboy who is scared to move on. A little girl falling in love with the new ranch hand. The new ranch hand frustrated with the boss who runs hot and cold in a matter of minutes. Lets not talk about his family who have hate running through their veins. Lots to drama and other men ready to step in and take over for the boss.
Zane and Josie weathered several rough times as they worked to overcome loss and family distrust. The saving grace in their lives is Lila. It took a village, forgiveness and Zane's sweet daughter to bring this family together. I couldn't put this book down as I hoped for this perfect ending.
Ranchers Unexpected Love Book 1 Ironwood Bluff Ranch Series
A true Love story. The beginning is slow and raw with excitement. The characters are and both strong and stubborn making everything exploding and real. Respect, honestly and communication are the keys to building a strong foundation toward Love.
I really wanted to love this book.. the writing style wasn’t my favorite and the lack of contractions when the mc’s were talking felt.. forced? It almost felt too proper for the type of book and characters. The side characters were my favorite part. Overall, not a bad book and had some really cute moments.
This is a slow-burn storyline that builds and burns. Josie comes to Lawson Ranch to prove to herself that she’s more than what’s expected of her by others. Her stubborn tenacity is tested by her new boss Zane, a widower who is unable to let go of a past that haunts him. Will their love survive or will it burn away to embers?
This book was just not at all it for me. So much immaturity and his family was just awful to her. No way I could have stood by as her friend and encouraged her to stay in the toxicity. It was also choppy and hard to follow the timeline. Ultimately just not the book for me, but I pushed through to finish it.
This story has such wonderful characters, Zane, Josie, Lila, Emery and Tanner. They mesh together with the rest of the characters to create an amazing story of friendship, loss, grief, but also of redemption, healing and new love. This work is awesome!
1 stubborn cowboy. 1 sassy, stubborn cowgirl. Mix in an adorable little girl who you instantly fall in love with. Love their story and her grit. I do wish we heard more about the sabotage and wrapped up that part. But we get the HEA we want and a few fun surprises.
Love the characters and story of their struggles and wins. Read it straight through didn't put it down except to eat dinner. Love cowboy stories with good endings.
