Heat and Heart

Rate this book
He broke her heart. She will burn his world down.

Five years ago, Dante Black rejected Eva Highwater in the most despicable way—after his wolf had already claimed hers. The rejection shattered her life and bound her to the torment of an incomplete mate bond.
In a fit of jealousy, her wolf strikes out, leaving Eva with blood on her hands and her life at the judgment of the Prime 10 Council, whose decision thrusts her into a Mating Trial with the very Alpha who destroyed her.
Stripped of choice, defiance is her only lifeline. To earn her freedom, Eva must endure the Trial without surrendering to the bond’s pull, her heat, or Dante’s dangerous temptation.
But once at Black Valley, Eva is drawn into a pack steeped in secrets that all point toward Dante’s dark past. She must decide if the truth she craves is worth the cost of exposing her heart—and risking her freedom.
Heat and Heart is the second book in the A Scent of Moon and Madness series, a sweeping paranormal romantasy where Council politics collide with fated mate bonds, and where heat has the power to sway hearts.

I enjoyed this a little more than book one, it was so emotional, I wasn't expecting that..
I loved their journey of healing and while I was still frustrated at the lack of communication, it was a great story!

Dante rejected Eva as his mate, but his wolf claimed hers, causing her five years of pain.. Now that her wolf killed someone because of it, she is forced to enter a mating trial with the man that destroyed her... She wants to be free of pain, his reasons for rejecting her still stand, but three months is a long time.. Everything is not as it seems, there's darkness in Dante that will change everything and things are about to get even more complicated..

I was honestly very nervous for this book, I wasn't execty the biggest fan of Dante, but this book showed me a side of him I wasn't expecting.. I figured pretty early on what has happened to him, but it was so much worse than I thought it was going to be... My heart broke for him, that's a burden nobody deserves to have.. He was a great Alpha and I understand why he did the things that he did and the disconnect with his wolf was a unique concept and so sad.
Eva was such a strong character, I honestly admire her so much, the pain that she went through was something not a lot of people would survive.. She stood her ground and she fought so hard against any feelings towards Dante, but deep down she always wanted him and his love..
I loved Dante's pack, they had Eva's back and I love how Nancy and Melanie were there for Eva. But, Leroy takes the cake, I love him so much, he was in Eva's corner since the beginning!! And Bryan and Kai were there for Dante, they told him what he needed to hear, even when he really didn't like it. They were there for him through the worst and I love them for it.

Both of their stories were filled with pain and grief and I understand them both.. There were times when her words hurt so much, because I know how much damage they did to Dante, but she was hurt beyond repair, she could've been even worse and I would support it.. Honestly, considering everything, the only way she would've understand him would be if she went through something similar.. She didn't deserve that pain, but it was what their story needed.. Their love story was much more special because of everything they had to overcome. Once again, I do wish they communicated earlier.. It really was frustrating seeing them circle around each other, not having a honest conversation. I wanted more moments of them being happy together, instead of the constant pain because they didn't know how to talk to each other.. It's why I took away a star, it was driving me insane..
But, their new beginning was perfectly done and that epilogue brought tears to my eyes, it was absolutely wonderful!! They deserve that happiness, they earned it. And the spicy scenes were great!!

I love this world even more now!! I love how Eva's sisters were there for her and told her what she needed to hear. That scene when the event happened made me cry.. My heart broke for them.
Everything that's happening in this world has me intrigued, the stakes are getting higher and I'm really curious where it's all going..

I'm even more excited for the next book, especially since I know now where Freya's story is going, I mean it's both of them.. I can't wait for the next book!!

Wow Bree has done it again with the second book. This was so good it was hard to put down. The tension was excellent and the characters and world building are so well fleshed out that there is no moments where you aren't fully invested in this story. I really enjoy how we have an overarching story and a bit of mystery in these books while we explore these fated mates on their journeys.

Bree has a talent for writing compelling characters who even though they have done awful things, you find yourself in love with them and rooting for their redemption.

This book is slightly darker than the first but still has generous amounts of spice with well written anticipation and tension before you get there.

I can't wait to read more of the Highwater sisters' stories and get to the bottom of the Crystal Moon Curse.

ARC REVIEW

This book definitely did NOT suffer from second book syndrome like a lot of romance fantasy series do!! In fact i enjoyed this book more because of the extra world building and getting to understand the pack dynamics more that i was wishing for in book 1!!

I was hesitant for this one because I did not like Eva and Dante in the last book, but they had really amazing character development!

The slow burn style smut was definitely more my style than the intensity from the first book! This series is looking like there will be a book that’s great for all types of readers! And i appreciate the opportunity to have been able to read it!!

Omggg I absolutely loved this book. It has been a while since I read a good rejected mates book and this may be my favorite one yet. I couldn’t stand Dante for all of book 1 so I was skeptical that he would be able to redeem himself, but WOW did he. Eva was a great fmc too, flawed and strong and filled with rage about the rejection and everything he put her through for 5 years. I think this was the perfect amount of spice for the plot. I’m so sad I have to wait for book 3.

This one kept up the good work of the previous book. Another great shifter romance. This one with a rejected mate working towards getting back together as the goddess wishes.

There was angst. There was happiness. There was sadness. There was spice.

Cannot wait for the next book.

Thanks to Bree Rosebury and The Berry Agency for the ARC.

This is a second chance omegaverse! Touch her and ☠️!! Eva is a strong FMC! Eva and Dante, have alot of skeletons in their closets that they are battling with! Dante has the bad boy personal and has hurt Eva numerous times over 5 years! To Dante's defense, he is not in communications with his wolf, Hades who had claimed Eva's wolf, Lilith, 5 years ago! Dante helps Eva when she is at her lowest due to her mother's death! They heal each other! You will fall in love with their story and find out more information about the crystal moon curse!

Wow, this book was incredible i love how Eva & Dantes story was next absolutely thrilling kept me on my toes. I've stayed up late just to continue to reading.

Eva and Dante both have dark pasts, they need to overcome,to be what each other needs. From being rejected to being mates, will the fates be in there favor?

I loved the characters, they were a perfect match. With all the choas that shattered between them. This book is spicy 🌶🌶🌶🌶. so far I have devoured book 1 & 2 and cant wait for the continuation of the story.

So much has happend in the story even tho its sharing each story of a different sister, it also has adventures as they weren't the only plot in the story. I love how all the previous characters are intertwined. There were a few sad moments where my eyes have watered, but thats what makes a book truly special.

Amazing writing style, smooth read. I wish there was more, but I know you'll interwin them hopefully and give update from previous characters. Absolutely my favorite shifter series so far this year.

Highly reccomend!

"You will always be my hope, Eva. You give me strength every day to do better, to be better."

Summary:
The FMC and MMC are fated mates. Due to his own issues the MMC rejected the FMC upon meeting her. He then spends years with his "three" aka a harem. The FMC deals with the pain of rejection and his activities with his "three". The MMC is unaware of this pain until a tragic event occurs.

Then we find out that the MMC may have rejected the FMC, but his wolf mated with her wolf and claimed her. According to the new law (which is what book 1 is about) the FMC and MMC must spend a designated time together before their bond is broken.

But what happens if during that time the FMC goes in heat? What happens if the MMC realizes just who the FMC is to him? What happens when outside forces interfere? I guess you have to read the book to find out because I am trying really hard not to spoil it✨

Review:
I loved it. But let me be honest. I read this book when it was on Wattpad. I went searching for this book and found out the author was editing etc. before publishing. I was aware of the first book but not how it helps you to have a better understanding of this book. After reading the "updated" version of this book---I love it even more.

I am a fan of rejected mate stories. However, let's be honest they start to read all the same. These books are a breath of fresh air. The FMCs are alpha females, and their wolves don't play. The MMCs are also alphas. Which makes it that much more interesting.

The author writes in a way that is evenly paced and intriguing. You want to see the couple come together but at the same time you fully understand if the FMC says "NO". There are twists and turns that make sense for the story. You come to love the FMCs family and look forward to the next book about the next sister.

If you follow me, you know I don't give out a lot of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ratings. When I do, it is because it is a book I find worth reading and feel others will feel the same way.

Looking forward to the next book.

I RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS AN ARC HOWEVER MY REVIEW IS BASED ON MY OPINION OF THE BOOK ITSELF AND NOT INFLUENCED BY THE AUTHOR, ETC.

Wow! Having already read the first book in the series and been introduced to the FMC and MMC of this book, I thought I knew what was coming.
Wrong. I had no idea, just how masterfully Bree Rosebury would spin this tale into one of two equally dark and haunted pasts, misunderstood actions and intentions, EMOTIONS that had me all over the place and of course, wrapping it up with an ending befitting the story and its characters.
I wolfed the entire thing down in one bite ( yes, I went there with a wolf pun 😁)
The story is beautifully written and the journey of self-discovery we join the main couple on is so profound, moving and extremely touching.
The two main characters are constantly in their heads, which means the reader is given the added bonus of dual POVs and given a direct look at what Eva and Dante are thinking.
I love this style of writing, it just adds so much more to the whole picture.
In this story, not only did Eva and Dante undergo an amazing character transformations, but the accompanying characters played such important roles and were some of the main sources of banter - and let me tell you it was good! I laughed so much!
It takes a bit of patience, but when the spice finally arrives, it is very good! 🔥🔥🔥
Definitely recommend this latest addition to the ongoing series!

Heat and Heart by Bree Rosebury

Arc review out on 1st December

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
🌶️🌶️🌶️

OMG, what does Bree put in her books? This is book 2 of A Scent of Moon and Madness series and we are so lucky that they are both being released on 1st December. I devoured this book! It follows on from book 1 timeline wise but focused on a different Highwater sister. We learnt a lot about Eva and Dante in book 1 and honestly I didn’t think there was a chance in hell he would be able to redeem himself. Wow, consider me shooketh…Dante is 🥹

This is a lot slower spice wise than book 1 but when it picked up 😮‍💨 it is totally worth the wait.

This book is more emotional than book 1, it is about healing and overcoming inner demons and finding love even when you feel you don’t deserve it. Everyone, run don’t walk to pick up these books on Monday!

Thank you so much for this Bree, when can I expect book 3? 😂

I absolutely loved this book about Eva and Dante. Eva is a strong, independent FMC who has been suffering for five years after her wolf, Lilith, was mate-rejected by Dante’s wolf, Hades. Dante is stubborn and painfully oblivious to the damage caused by that rejection, while Lilith knew that they were mated for a reason and would never accept Hades rejection.

Both Eva and Dante are burdened by loss, guilt, and their own inner demons, and watching them navigate that pain was heartbreaking and compelling. What truly made the story shine was seeing them slowly realize that healing isn’t something they have to face alone. When they finally give in to their undeniable attraction and admit their need for one another, it feels earned, emotional, and deeply satisfying.

A powerful, angsty mate-rejection story with strong characters, real emotional growth, and a romance that proves love can survive even the deepest wounds.

Heat and Heart by Bree Rosebury absolutely blew me away! I loved this instalment even more than book one.

Eva and Dante’s journey had me hooked. As much as I enjoyed Genesis and Sebastian, this pairing just hit different for me. The emotional depth, the chemistry, the push and pull - it all felt so raw and consuming. Being a fly on the wall as Eva and Dante faced their demons, challenged each other, and slowly unraveled was honestly addictive. I could not put this book down.

The spice? Wooooooow. 🔥🔥🔥 Perfectly balanced with a story that never gets lost in it. The character development and world-building had my wolf crawling under my skin - everything felt richer, deeper, and more intense in this instalment.

This book had heart, heat, and healing in equal measure. A clear 5-star read for me, and one of those sequels that completely cements why I’m invested in this series. CAN'T WAIT FOR BOOK 3!

Heat and Heart took everything I loved from book one and dialed it up in the most breathtaking way. This installment is richer, deeper, and so much more emotional. It's the kind of book that sneaks under your skin and stays there long after you’ve closed the final page.

The slow burn? Absolutely exquisite. Every glance, every moment, every almost‑touch is crafted with intention, and I found myself savouring every bit of it.

And the world‑building continues to shine. Rosebury expands the universe with such confidence and clarity that it feels both bigger and more intimate at the same time. New layers, new stakes, new emotional depth are all woven together so seamlessly that you can’t help but fall even harder for this world and these characters.

This is the kind of five‑star sequel that proves the series has serious staying power. Emotional, immersive, and beautifully slow‑burn, Heat and Heart left me desperate for more. I’m already counting down to the release of book three.

I really loved this book. It leans hard into the emotional fallout of a broken mate bond and doesn’t shy away from the anger, grief, and vulnerability that come with it. Eva’s pain feels real, and I appreciated how her defiance becomes a form of survival rather than weakness.

The forced proximity of the Mating Trial creates constant tension, and the push and pull between Eva and Dante is charged without overpowering the story. I especially enjoyed how the pack politics and Council influence added depth beyond the romance, giving the plot real stakes and momentum.

As secrets about Dante’s past slowly unravel, the story becomes less about forgiveness and more about truth, agency, and choice. Heat and Heart is emotionally driven, intense, and layered, making it a compelling continuation of the series and one that left me keen to keep reading.

Oh wow I really enjoyed Heart and Heat. I read it in pretty much one day, it’s currently 2am as I write this review. I absolutely devoured this storyline. Eva is one insanely strong character to go through everything she did mentally AND physically. She’s probably one of my favourite in this series. I personally liked how this book wasn’t overdone by spice, it very much stuck to its storyline and spice was there when it needed to be not just to have it there. The characters also seemed to have more substance which I really enjoyed!!!!!

The descriptive language of Eva and Dante’s experiences and story was mesmerising. The way that Bree wrote about overcoming and understanding trauma and women’s issues in an alternate world was so insightful. I would like to formally apologise to the French man who was likely reading seductive banter and spicy scenes over my shoulder on the plane. The way these characters are so determined in their beliefs and ability to keep fighting is phenomenal. I cannot wait for the next book in this series to continue the journey.

Loved book 1, so was really excited to continue the story of the Highwater sisters. Following along the second chance story of Eva and Dante. Rejected mate turned acceptance.
Gotta admit, not the biggest fan of Dante. Personally, I felt he could’ve done A LOT more grovelling but as long as Eva was happy in the end and found herself again that’s all that matters. That girl’s really been through so much, she deserved to be happy!! Can’t wait to read on about the rest of the sisters!

So I had less fun with this story and I was so looking forward to it. The religious undertones that are carried from the first installment into the second have grown. She goes from being uber rich and independent to being emotionally destroyed and giving everything up for the love of a man. And let’s not forget it ends in pregnancy… twins. And probably will brake the curse and have the first male in the family 😒 I’m annoyed.

Another great instalment in the Scent of Moon and Madness series. This book is a shifter romance that is fast paced and fun to read with great character arcs, emotional torment, enemies to lovers, yearning and some spice. Binged this book in a day, would most definitely recommend!

What a good second book!
I wasn't sure what to expect from Dante and Eva, but this was better than any of my expectations.
A beautiful fated-mates-enemies-to-lovers romance, I adored getting Eva's perspective on her relationship with Dante and viewing the world through her eyes.
The trauma that was explored with both of our main characters was very relatable and not dramatised, as well as the relationships that Dante and Eva developed with people around them.

The plot that began in book one was continued through this book, which made it more engaging, and it worked much better in this book.

My only slight drama with this book is that Eva and Dante went from enemies to "let's give it a shot" really well, but from there almost went straight to "love"; it felt slightly too quick.

Overall was a very good book and I highly recommend these books and will be reading all 7 books!!
