If you are looking for cozy horror, Spooky Lovers is a great choice. It is s a quick, enjoyable read packed with love, ghosts, friendship, and a killer. Avra, a podcaster seeking romance, joins a horror-themed dating app and meets Ernesta, a ghost.

Here we follow Avra, a podcaster, who was looking for love. She downloaded a dating app for lovers of all things horror. Avra met Ernesta, a ghost. A human dating a ghost is a fun concept. Physical contact is out of the question, but they are able to touch each other through the dating app. This story brings new meaning to long-distance relationships lol. Can you imagine being able to touch someone through a dating app? As the story progresses, Avra asks her ex-girlfriend, Andrea, to help her investigate Ernesta’s death. which uncovers some interesting things.

Spooky Lovers highlights strong female relationships, vivid characters, and an engaging plot. A fun bingeable read.

This is just a really cute paranormal read that you can absolutely find yourself finishing in one sitting. It’s got the thrilling suspense within an apparition love story that engulfs you into its grasp and doesn’t release until the satisfying end. The discovery of the main’s background and the development of their relationship is paced perfectly within this complex killer whodunit that revolves a series of deaths. Gachs puts the reader in a rollercoaster of feels in Spooky Lovers and is a must-read paranormal romance for 2026.

*spoilers*

Avra likes all things macabre and hosts a podcast about the most haunted cemeteries. On her spare time, she has been known to have an online relationship with a beauty named Ernestina. After months of developing their relationship through the dating site, Spooky Lovers, Avra finally convinces Ernestina to meet her to investigate a cemetery for a certain haunting she’s only read about online. But when she arrives, she finds out Ernestina’s reasons for being so distant. Because she’s the ghost that haunts the cemetery. But that doesn’t come in the way of their relationship.

Instead, Avra takes it upon herself to help Ernestina to find the man who killed her. With the help of her ex, Andrea who runs her own true crime podcast, they look into dates around the time period she described to determine who their ghostly friend’s true identity was before she was awfully unalived. Upon finding her death, they discover that she wasn’t his only victim. There were others that were silenced and discarded, leaving behind their own ghosts to roam with no direction.

The story escalates into revenge and madness as the girls try their best to get the attention of the police to stir in the direction of the killer, but his title prevents him from becoming a subject to keep an eye on until things progress negatively and Avra’s stuck with the horrid repercussions of their plan.

It’s a story that manifests true relationships, hardships of female victims, and being a voice for others that don’t have one anymore. It has this strong paranormal relationship that brews between the living and the dead in a way that feels comfortable. The cute elements within a drastic serial killer drama feel necessary within the plot. Like a true crime drama meets a sapphic romcom with a touch of “Ghost”. Yes, that one with Patrick Swayze. But overall, a comfort read that will have you seated until the end.

I had so much fun with Spooky Lovers by J. V. Gachs!

This was such a cozy horror read with the perfect pacing. It’s quick, engaging, and one of those stories that’s incredibly easy to fly through in a sitting. And can we talk about the cover for a second?? It’s so cute and perfectly captures the vibe of the story.

The premise immediately hooked me: Avra signs up for Spooky Lovers, a dating app for fans of the macabre, hoping to find someone who shares her love of horror… maybe even someone she can one day marry in a graveyard ceremony. Romantic, right?
She does find love when she meets Ernestina… the only problem? Ernestina is a ghost.
Ernestina can’t remember anything about her life and is forced to relive her death over and over.
Determined to help the woman she loves, Avra teams up with her ex-girlfriend Andrea, to uncover the truth behind Ernestina’s murder before the killer strikes again.

This was such a charming mix of cozy horror, romance, and mystery. I loved the ghostly elements paired with the investigative true crime angle, and the story had just enough tension while still keeping that fun, spooky comfort-read feeling.

Well... Yes.
The only problem is, Ernestina is a ghost.

This was a so fast paced for me, since I started I just couldn’t put it down; it has this paranormal/gothic vibes that I love, but at the same time you immerse yourself in a mystery case around a serial killer, investigation podcast, unsolved crimes and all revolves around this dark academia vibes and hidden secrets in this gothic library; also is a need to mention the perfect and magical atmosphere developed around Avra and Ernestina and their spooky cozy dates on that abandoned graveyard. I find it very emotional at times, it reminded me a little of the movie lovely bones, so yes I absolutely loved and enjoyed every single page. This novella haunts you in a very good way and makes you fall in love even if is in the afterlife.
I’m incredibly grateful with Juli (J.V GACHS) for sharing her book with me, I was literally dying to read it 👻

Mad Axe Media has had some AMAZING releases lately, and this gem is no exception! There's ghosts, romance, a serial killer on the loose and a touch of humor too. I was truly rooted for the characters and the world building and pacing of the story are absolute perfection! Looking forward to reading more from JV Gachs!

This was such a fun read!

Ghosts, cemeteries, revenge…the perfect mix.

This novella was feisty, emotional, clever and comical. Our FMCs were well fleshed (pun intended), their chemistry was cute, and the story line was fast paced.
