The moment he saw her, he knew. The words left his lips before he realized it.
Harlot and her twin brother, Fynn, are constantly moved by their mother, Adira. Their mother possesses a specific magic that keeps her family safe from the night creatures, but it is impure. Their bloodline is cursed, and Adira is on a desperate mission to break it.
While Adira is trying to find the answer to a hopeless situation, Harlot and Fynn are discovering the world they truly live in when their mother finally decides to settle in a town infested with vampires and blood witches.
This book was so good and definitely captured the dark romantsy vibe. I did love the timepiece she wrote the book in which added to the depth of it.

This book is about brother and sister, Fynn and Harlot. They don’t have a place they can call home as their mom always has them on the go. Never settling down for too long.. Nothing. Then one day their mom Adira decides to stay in a town .. for an extended period of time. This begins the journey to exploring the unknown.
Although the action starts immediately in the first 2 pages I think Chapter 3 just sucked me in. I cannot wait until book 2. I must know what happens! I did love the mention of vampires , blood witches etc it added another layer to this story. Although this is Lesley’s first time dabbling into this genre the writing was magical.
Thank you Lesley, for allowing me to read this book. I am grateful for the opportunity. I am leaving this review voluntarily all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. .
A dark romantasy with horror elements how Lesley writes in her horror novels. Absolutely amazing!! This is my favorite book from the author and the whole book was crazy!
The story follows Harlot and Fynn, the twins, cursed life and how they meet their soulmates. There are secrets, creatures (vampires, witches, dhampires, umbras), spicy scenes, horror thoughts and gore.
The writing is absolutely amazing, the worldbuiding is really complex and I got a hard time to get into the story since there was a lot of information since of the beginning, but while I was getting into the story it was starting to get the plot line.
Before reading it please check the trigger warnings! A huge thanks for the author for giving me this arc to read! It was incredible.
"How can I find peace if my soul has been torn apart?"
This book was something I had the orlasure of reading 6 months ago when it was first written and I loved every second of it. Getting to reread it as an ARC just cemented my love for it. It is the polar opposite of everything you have ever gotten from Lesley before but it is just as steeped in genius as all of her other works.
This book is filled with witches, vampires, curses, secret societies, Fated mates and everything is steeped in with the most epic descriptions. I cannot wait for book2!!!!
Sometimes it’s better to believe in a hollow promise than to have no hope at all
Am I Lesley Camphouse’s biggest fan? I think I am, yes. She writes it, I’ll read it, simple as that.
A Restless Fate is the brilliant Lesley’s debut in the romantasy world, and of course she did not disappoint. Here we follow the story of a cursed family, twins who aren’t aware of their destiny, and a mom who is doing everything in her power to save her twins. Soulmates, promised partners, and a world filled with vampires, werewolves, witches, and darklings.
This story is different from the regular ones Lesley gives us, but at the same time, it’s completely hers; we still have elements of horror and gore. The writing is captivating and keeps the reader invested; the mystery catches your attention from the first verse. I felt the same frustration as Harlot every time her mom kept things from her. The main characters are well constructed; Les takes her time introducing us to them so we can understand their motivations, their desires, and their inner struggles. All of this is required because some of their darkest thoughts are induced by this curse the twins carry on their shoulders without their knowledge.
Harlot is a strong-minded young woman who can be a little stubborn sometimes; I don’t blame her; she knows her mother is keeping important things away from her, and every time she asks something, her mom changes the conversation or simply ignores her. That can be unnerving.
Fynn, the twin, also has a wild spirit, and when he starts to have these murderous thoughts towards his sister, it is something that at first he can’t put a finger on, but then he indulges in them.
One thing I really liked about this book is the fact that here vampires are the dangerous creatures we all know and love, seductive, manipulating, and lethal. Emrys the Umbra, a unique kind of deadly vampire, is the perfect balance between a scary killing machine and the most romantic, beautiful lover you could ever wish for. I wish he was real and mine, Harlot, the lucky bastard you are my girl.
If romantasy with a good amount of horror and gore is your thing, you definitely need to read this one. I promise you, you will love it.
The cliffhanger is to die for and I can’t wait for book two.
This book had a little bit of each mythical and supernatural creature all bundled up into a neatly written book. There are dark witches from different kinds of convents as well as light witches. Some of the witches had markings on their arms which were their shadow protectors. Let me tell you I wish I had some of those protectors when walking through some sketchy places. There is a powerful night creature called an Umbre and all kinds of vampires. There are also 3 main human characters, a mom, and a set of twins named Fynn and Harlot. They are running from a family curse where the twins will eventually kill each unless they find a soulmate by their 18th birthday. The twin’s mother is looking for a cure for this curse all before the twins end up killing each other. I am looking forward to reading more of books from this author as I like all the different creatures and it has the right amount of sex scenes without going into too much detail just enough to make you use your imagination. The details abouts fighting the author leaves that all too one’s imagination as well. Overall, I highly recommend this paranormal romance book to everyone.
This story drips with romance, horror, and buried family secrets that refuse to stay hidden. Siblings Fynn and Harlot have spent their entire lives drifting from place to place under the control of their mysterious mother, Adira—never staying long enough to call anywhere home. But when Adira suddenly decides to settle in one town far longer than usual, everything begins to unravel. What starts as a pause in their endless wandering becomes a descent into the unknown. The past creeps closer. Secrets surface. Family bonds strain under the weight of truths never meant to be revealed. As Fynn and Harlot are pulled deeper into a world of danger, desire, and darkness, the question becomes: can they survive what their family has been hiding all along? With vampires and witches woven seamlessly into the story, the tension never lets up. Every chapter delivers twists, revelations, and moments that leave you breathless and desperate for more. Leslie has done it again this book is addictive and haunting. Just when you think you know where the story is headed, it takes another sharp turn. Consider me fully invested and eagerly waiting to see what dark masterpiece comes next. 🖤📖
This dark horror romantasy is one to sink your teeth into! It gives you vampires, witches, gore, dark gothic vibes, family drama and secrets, magic and spicy spice 🥵 If these tickle your fancy then I definitely recommend you pick up this book.
There are dangers lurking all around this dark world and a mysterious curse clutching tight like a parasite deep within.
This genre is a first from Lesley Camphouse but when it comes to Camphouse you know you won't be disappointed and I was not!
I really liked the plot of this book and the dark world with the gore and mystery within. Maybe the characters could've had a little more to them; personally I'm not overly fussed about that as I was more focused on the plot. Overall this is one to add to your TBR!
... And I was left on such a cliffhanger 😱 Looking forward to what will be uncovered in the next book!
So I was given the opportunity to read this book in trade for an honest review.
One thing I will start of with is that I enjoyed the fact that this wasn't just one supernatural being, it was multiple; witches, vampires, wolves. It made for a more interesting storyline and character development. The siblings Harlot and Fynn were an interesting bunch, Fynn with his constant fits and thinking of ways to kill his sister had me feeling some kind of way and then Harlot is just trying to survive this crazy life their mom throws them into and yeah she's different but I didn't feel like her brother's urge to kill her was really necessary. I'm curious to see where book 2 goes.
“A Restless Fate” - I swear to the old Gods, I must be under some spell, what have you done to me Lesley?!
★★★★★
This was my first “Dark Romantasy” novel and at this point I am convinced Lesley secretly pours magic into her writing making me a slave to her words.
From the get go I felt like I was transported into a magical world filled with dread, darkness and mystical creatures and beings. There was a constant feeling of danger lurking and a mystery that I needed to unravel. The urge to keep reading was so strong and the characters kept me on the edge of my seat. I caught myself falling in love with this tale and it’s “spicy” beings *wink wink* and I will be waiting in agony for part 2 because my soul needs it!
Do you like vampires, witches, blood witches, humans, and Umbras? Gory scenes, brutal bonding rituals, and blood farms where infertile humans are disposed of? This world is vicious, unforgiving, and impossible to escape.
Harlot and her twin brother, Fynn, are constantly moved by their mother, Adira, whose impure magic protects them from night creatures—but at a cost. Their bloodline is cursed, and time is running out to break it.
When they finally settle in a town overrun by vampires and blood witches, Harlot discovers the truth of the world she lives in—and that someone is calling to her soul. 🩸✨
This story will keep you intrigued and eager to discover more.
A Restless Fate has a strong, dark plot centered around a curse that kept me invested from start to finish. While I enjoyed the story overall, Fynn did annoy me at times, and the mate-bond element felt a bit rushed. That said, the pacing was solid, the atmosphere was engaging, and the curse-driven storyline really carried the book. I’m definitely interested in seeing where the rest of the story goes.
No curse was needed to make me love and obsess over this story, I choose to with my whole heart!
It is a fantasy horror romance that delivers on all parts. I looked forward to every moment I could immerse myself back into Avenaris. There was gore, romance, monsters, and it's all entwined within a beautiful dark atmosphere. I need more, and I'll impatiently be waiting, respectfully.
Thank you, Lesley, for allowing me an ARC and get a real feel of my first horror romantasy story.
A fast-paced fated mates romance with an amazing fantasy aspect! The dynamic between characters is fantastic and always kept me on my toes just enough to lure me into their shadows.
This dark horror romantasy grabs vour attention immediately. This story is pure horror with romance at the core. The gothic backdrop of this story sets the stage for all of the terrors that lurk. The author describes death and viscera in such a way that we can smell the iron in the air. You come expecting a regular vampire story and leave with a new obsession.
A Restless Fate is a dark, horror romantasy novel. I commend Lesley for the originality of this story, it’s different from any other kind of vampire, witchcraft based stories i have read. How? Its ideas are incredibly unique, the concept for this story is twins that are bound to a family curse. Each twin grows insatiable for the others death as time passes until one of them is dead and the other survives. They are bound to meet their cursed soulmate, so the curse can remain. The spiral of this is generational, it happened to their mother and so forth.
Their Mother has spent her life since the twins were born looking for a way to break the curse. She was determined to be the person to do so, she would save BOTH her twins, but she kept the knowledge of the curse away from the twins, outright keeping everything from them. She wanted to protect them, but unfortunately, is that really her decision to make? Her keeping that knowledge is what drives the twins apart even more... That is until they meet their cursed soulmate and life changes for the twins.
They go from moving constantly, to settling in a witch and vampire infested city... settling is the catalyst to both the twins, they are growing older and seek that partnership. This is when Harlot meets a certain “gentleman”, an umbra named Emrys. Emrys is incredibly powerful, a creature that was created to keep the balance in a world where the darkness rules. I may or may not be in love with Emrys, he’s incredibly swoon worthy. He treats Harlot like she is the beginning and the end of his world; their insta-love is to die for; he is to die for. Harlot has an incredible story, she is strong willed and full of passion, not only for Emrys but for finding the truth.... The lies, the things that have been hidden from both her and her twin are heart wrenching!
A Restless Fate is available now to purchase from the zon, and is also on KU - i believe book 2 is going to be coming very soon! Exciting. I can't wait to see where this story leads.
”Maybe we were never destined to be extraordinary, and all of it is merely a fantasy.“
This was my first horror/dark romance read, and I jumped at the opportunity to read it, because of who wrote it. I was not disappointed. Not at all. New genre enters my bio.
A mother and her two children are always on the move. Why are they never finding peace? The twins, Harlot and Fynn are longing for normalcy, and a place to call home.
What follows is a beautifully written, magical story about a cursed bloodline, sibling rivalry, secrets, and several very intriguing supernatural beings. Shadowplay… don’t even get me started.
I was fully invested, wholly ruined, and honestly grateful for it.
If you crave a blend of magic, menace, and emotional chaos–A Restless Fate is calling your name. Pick it up. Let it haunt you a little.
This is a dark Romantasy with vampires, wolves, witches, humans, and more. A curse that Harlot and Fynn’s family has will torture them relentlessly. Their mother searches to end it. This book was a little slow at first and I didn’t understand what was going on, but I kept reading and it definitely picked up. It has a lot of spice and you may want to look into the trigger warnings if they bother you. It has rape, killings, slavery, etc… If you like dark Romantasy horror with these things involved, then you will probably like this book.
First and foremost, thank you to the amazing Lesley A. Camphouse for the ARC.
This book was amazing, my first true fantasy and romance book ever with a whole world and multiple pov's and very detailed characters and environments. I dont want to give much away because I really recommend this read for people that are interested in dark romance or romantasy this was an amazing read
In this story we follow twins Harlot and Fynn and their mother who is in search for something the twins are unaware of, when their mother decides to settle down momentarily in a town that the twins had never been to before. Unexpected things begin to unfold and truths that their mother had been running away from begin to surface faster than their mother expected. This makes the twins aware of family tragedies and secrets their mother had never spoken of and had been trying to burry for years.
A Restless Fate is a character-driven story with vampires and blood witches that leans into fate, longing, and hard choices. The romance has just enough spice and is full of tension, with plenty of moments that quietly ache rather than shout. The characters felt layered and real, and the emotional buildup paid off. Overall this was a deeply satisfying, atmospheric read—perfect if you love romance with angst and heart. I can't wait for the next book to find out what happens!💫📚
This was my first venture into dark fantasy/horror. I loved it. You’ve got it all…witches, vampires, werewolves, umbras mixed in with humans who can be just as barbaric and twins who fantasize about brutally killing the other. In all of the bloodshed, love can still be found as souls are drawn to each other. Will they find a way to break the curse to not only survive but to be with the ones who consume their whole hearts?
Witches, Vampires, curses, sibling rivalry like no other and a shadow daddy, what more could you possible want?
This story follows Harlot and Fynn as they navigate a world of secrecy, dark creatures and more. I cannot wait to see what is in store for us in the second book, especially after that ending!
omg I am so in love with this story. it is so different and amazing. the fact that they are cursed twins. are torn between two people they love or despise it's amazing. I love Carla so much. and harlot omg what is gonna happen to her now

For me this book started out very slow and quite confusing, to be 100% honest I almost DNFd, but since I don't do that often I powered through and I'm glad I did! This book had everything; cursed twins, witches, vampires, fated mates, sexy touch her and die MMC & a fabulous menu of trigger warnings. If you are a fan of Dark Romantasy Horror, give this book a try!
I’m sorry but I had a hard time getting through this book. It just wasn’t for me.
I felt there was no character development. I never felt an emotional attachment to any of characters. There was no character growth or redemption. In many of these books the characters are morally gray (or black) but they usually have some redeeming qualities. I didn’t find a single character that I got invested in or I felt was going to have some redeeming qualities.
I get that the twins in the book are cursed and maybe that’s why there was not a redemption arc. Maybe that’s coming in book 2 since the curse was not lifted in this book?
The story made big jumps in just a few pages but in other places the explanations seemed to go on for chapters.
Since I got an ARC of this book I felt like I owed it to the author to finish it in case the story picked up at some point. Otherwise, I would have DNF’d this. Neither the story nor the writing ever drew me in. I get it is supposed to be a dark romance but it was pretty light on the romance/plot and heavy on the dark spice. I felt it was overtly gory in many places. The reader could have gotten the idea the brutality of the vampires without the play by play gore that got very repetitive.
If you are a fan of dark romance, maybe you would enjoy it. But be sure to check the triggers before going in because there are a lot of tough topics used in the story.
Vampires, magic, blood witches, a sense of impending doom and a curse that threatens the FMC from the beginning.
This is the first in this genre for this author and I loved it! Cannot wait to see what is in the next instalment.
Shadow daddy and shadow mummy, fated mates, touch her and die, cursed bloodline and shadow play!
What more could you want? This had it oozing from the pages such a beautiful build up of emotions and story behind the FMC. Constantly on the run from her fate, with her family leading to more twists and turns. I loved the way the his had horror elements to it and didn’t have a softy softy world of fantasy and in fact one of the first fantasy books that feels very possible in a world of blood witches and vampires.
Normally this type of book would be right up my alley. Dark, morally grayish characters, and a stunning cover to book. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver for me. I didn't find Harlot, Flynn, or any of the other characters compelling at all. The gory/dark parts didn't feel like a part of the story. It seemed like they were there for shock factor and as fillers. The "romance" again felt like a filler with no true connection between them. There is a decent story there with the plot and the twins curse. With that being said, I dont think I'll read book 2 only because I didnt "get" the characters. Beautiful cover and I hope this author keeps writing.
This dark horror romantasy was everything and more. I just love the world Lesley has created for us. Such a dark take on traditional romantasys. I absolutely LOVE IT! I had so many feelings throughout the book. Fynn definitely annoyed the crap outta me. I love Harlot's character so much. The mom definitely needed to trust her kids a bit more. I adore how Emrys is so protective of Harlot, she definitely needed someone like that in her life. I absolutely despise Fynn's character 😂 THE CLIFFHANGER was so unfair 😭😭 I was HOOKED.

I loved the gothic atmosphere of this book and the types of supernatural/witchy beings in it, but I found the pace to be too slow for my liking and wasn’t a fan of the insta-love. There is a shadow daddy and a cute nickname (Little Tempest!), but I didn’t feel connected to the romance. It is definitely gory/dark, so read the trigger warnings first. I felt like this book set up a lot of info/plot lines for book two, but I felt like they weren’t really resolved in book one as much as I had hoped. The chapter headings are BEAUTIFUL.
