That's the word Liana Marchetti heard her husband use to describe her as to his friends. She was a boring doormat that didn’t have a single thought for herself. He was so wrong. Being a mafia wife, she tried to play the role that she thought he would like. Now, he was going to see who the real Liana was.
And she wanted a divorce.
Diego did not want to be married. However, when his wife demands a divorce he told her there were only two ways. One, if she betrayed the mafia, he would kill her. The second, if she even dared to be with another man, he’d kill him and get rid of her. His wife had other ideas. Liana was going to make him work.
She had no interest in any other man. Because the truth was, Diego had hurt her. She had started to fall in love with her husband, but there was no way she was going to succumb to a man who thought she was a doormat.
However, Diego is completely blown away by his wife. He didn’t want a doormat, he relished the fire and passion burning inside her, and now, he was not going to let her go. He was going to keep her, and if that meant winning her back, that was exactly what he was going to do.
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
Four friends talked shit about their wives behind their backs, thinking they wouldn't know about it. One said his wife was boring in bed, one said that his wife was like a child for loving and organizing parties, one admitted to having a mistress (it's not true, though), and the last one called his wife a doormat.
This is the first book, and ngl, the blurb intrigued me and had me getting high hopes, which turned out to be a mistake. Am I surprised? Not really. Disappointed? Absolutely. She didn't hold her ground; she found her spine for, like, a minute, but bam, BBS got in the way, and the idea of divorce was forgotten right away.
Then we've been given the lame reason that Liana is acting this way because her father and brother told her to do so. Be a good wife and never rock the boat, even though she was losing herself along the way. She thought Diego would never like the real her, so she stuck to pretending to be the perfect wife who likes to please her husband.
And of course he fell for the act that made him see her as a doormat. But it doesn't help the situation at all. Why didn't he just have a conversation with her to sort out his issue? He just had to talk trash about her in front of his friends, and to top it off, he actually meant it, unlike his three friends. I'm not sure, but it feels like the others are just complaining about their wives without truly meaning what they say. Still, it definitely hurts, even if it’s not meant to be taken seriously.
This would've been entertaining if she didn't give in to the attraction and she held on to the hurt for just a bit longer. She was sleeping with him again at the 40% mark already. Like, what happened to the anger and pain? 🤧 Or maybe I'm just a grudge holder and wouldn't tolerate that kind of insult and disrespect. Anyway, I didn't like it; it might work for others, though.
Book info: - Novella - Organized crime - Arranged marriage - Age gap (he keeps referring to her as his young wife 🤧) - Overheard - No cheating, OM/OW, separation - Surprised pregnancy (wish this wasn't added, just another reason why she can't divorce him) - V FMC 🙄, Non V MMC (no info on his past) - HEA (10 yrs later, with 3 kids, and 1 otw)
Notes: - At the moment, they've already been married for six months. - The word "doormat" was used 44 times in this book, which seems too much, but whatever. - He only said sorry once. His apology wasn't even heartfelt because he believed that if he didn't say those words, and she didn't hear them, the real her would never come out. - I wouldn't say he groveled; rather, he adjusted his personality and made an effort to find common ground with her after she finally dropped the docile wife act. - He did things to make her happy, so maybe he's not a man of words but of action? But idk, words cut deeper, so it would've been better too if he explained why he fucked up and how sorry he was.
Short but addictive so hang on you won’t put it down until the last page has been turned. Liana is spicy naturally, confident women makes friends easily does things new to her accepts challenges until she got married and being married to her husband had her turning into someone she didn’t recognize while looking in the mirror she had changed become the perfect wife, not speaking her opinions, agrees to everything he says hoping her husband would eventually see her worth but he doesn’t when she overhears how he describes her to his friends as his doormat it breaks something in her or wakes her up depending on how you look it. Diego sexy as all get out husband with little redeeming qualities starting out, he mean discusses his wife being a doormat for laughs with his friends not realizing the damage until it is too late and she has decided to push back asked for a divorce deciding to be herself gave up on their marriage that she poured sweat, blood, tears into but he never once appreciated now she doesn’t care. But can’t allow her to walk away because he finally sees her the women he married he sees her strength, her confidence, her personality forcing him to do everything, anything to fix his marriage he too for granted but will she give him a chance, will she listen to him, will he be able to show her who he is explaining why if he can, and will they get a second chance at happiness?
Liana is forced to marry Diego, having lost her mum at an early age she is not sure what makes a good wife. She listens to her father and brother and in doing so she turns herself into someone she is not.
Liana overhears her husband call her a doormat and declare just how much he does not like her, this sets Liana free. She tells him she wants a divorce and she lets the real Liana out to play. Diego is totally blindsided by this new Liana. He is at a total loss and he has no idea what to do with her. What he does know is that there is no way he is going to grant her a divorce in fact he might just be starting to fall for her.
Liana and her 3 friends hear their husbands insulting them. One is boring in bed, one is childish, one is too quiet. Diego says Liana is a boring doormat.
L leaves the party and makes the driver take her to her dad. He had told her to be easy to get along with and she’d have a good marriage.
A little disappointed that D’s first POV he really does think that about her. I had hoped it was a say it to sound cool situation. However he explained it well. The person she was acting like WAS boring.
Other reviews give good explanation.
Each of the husbands regret what they said and didn’t mean it. The wives all won’t talk to their husbands.
Safe except one of his three friends, Emilio, talks about how he has a mistress. His wife is Tatiana. It’s not true.

Okay, this little mafia novella was such a ride. Liana starts out as this naturally fiery, confident woman, but the moment she marries Diego she shrinks herself down to fit the idea of the “perfect” spouse. She’s trying so hard to create the kind of love her parents had, so she swallows her opinions, plays the agreeable wife and hopes he’ll eventually meet her halfway.
And then… the moment that absolutely guts her. She overhears Diego calling her a doormat to his friends. It’s cruel, it’s careless and it completely destroys the tiny bit of hope she was holding on to. Honestly, I felt that for her. So she makes the decision that had me cheering. She’s done trying to be perfect, done bending and done trying to force a marriage that clearly isn’t working. She wants a divorce and she’s not hiding who she is anymore.
But this is where it gets good. Because the minute Liana stops playing the role she thought she needed to, Diego finally gets a look at the real woman he married… and he’s obsessed. Her spark, her passion, her strength, everything she thought would drive him away is exactly what pulls him in. You can practically feel him scrambling to fix the mess he made as he realises he actually wants this marriage and he wants her. His possessiveness? Absolutely on point.
What I loved most was how their dynamic completely flips. Liana finally stands up for herself and Diego has to learn how to actually show up for her, listen to her and put real effort into being a husband. Watching him fall harder and harder while she’s ready to walk away was honestly so satisfying.
Overall, it was a quick, fun mafia read with just the right blend of angst, emotion and spice. I’ve liked Sam Crescent’s mafia romances before and this one gave exactly what I wanted; a hurt-but-strong FMC, a grovelling possessive MMC and a marriage that gets rebuilt in all the best ways.
I hadn't read a sam crescent book in awhile.. don't know why I did with this one and then I remembered why i don't like her books. Very superficial, no character growth and most if not all of her fmc's are shy clueless, doormat virgin fmcs of all ages, so labeling this is as such, is par for the course. I have no problem with v-fmcs, they just almost always are boring, plain, dumb and portrayed as paragons of virtue, like that is their whole personality (are we in the fifties) I mean really! the fmc is a total doormat, doesn't do anything about it, cringe dialogue and worthless mmc. not sure what is happening with romance books these days, but most to do not have any romance at all so they should not be labeled as such. anyways, nothing new here, no twist or variation on the same ol' tropes and storylines, had potential, I really like the whole overheard idea but it all came to absolutely nothing. bottom line, passed the time but was not worth it and note to self, just avoid the idiocy and not going to read any more of this author.
This standalone story was so good and definitely needs to be the start of a brand new series. The title is misleading do not let it fool you by judging the book by the title. Liana Marchetti had been married to her mafia capo husband for the last six months and she thought they were getting along well considering it was an arranged marriage. However when she overhears her husband refer to her as a boring Doormat she is equal parts hurt and furious. She leaves him where he stands, heading back to her father to give him a piece of her mind also. She did as he asked, played the amenable wife that all capos want, a quiet, mild mannered woman, she changed who she really is to make her father and husband happy. Well not anymore. She wants a divorce and Diego her husband has no idea the firestorm he as just awoken with his careless words. What he wasn't prepared for was who is wife truly is, the fire and spark she holds within, how she challenges him at every turn, it is absolutely brilliant. Her sudden change of personality and seeing the real Liana, the strong character with a mind of her own wakes Diego up and it is wonderful to watch unfold. I thought this story was a great plot, an unusual take on a Mafia read and well delivered. The characters were engaging and likeable and I couldn't wait to see what Liana did next or how Diego would react. It was also good to see Diego's three closest friends Giovanni, Lorenzo and Emilio who are married to Liana's three closest friends Mia, Clarissa and Tatiana respectively and they each equally offended their wives with their thoughtless and offhand remarks that were not meant to be heard by others. I truly hope each couple will have their stories told as I think they would be really great stories and it would be nice to see more of these characters again as their stories progress and each work to win back their women. I also hope Liana's brother Enzo has his story told as he was a witty and strong character who I think needs to find his happily ever after also. So much to enjoy in this story I really am hoping to see more of these characters in the future. Happy Reading. Please note that I was given an arc of this book for my honest review which is exactly what I have given. 5 out of 5 stars.
Good story line .. Smutty stuff not so great .. And all kinds of things left unfinished and unresolved .
First I read all these blurbs saying " your going to dislike Diego so much " he's so mean bla bla bla .. Yea no he wasn't .. MMC in previous books said way nasty stuff to their FMC and he wasn't mean to her at all.
He called her a doormat , Lianas dad gave her some bad advise she listened and didnt show her true self . Diego did not like who she was . him and his 3 friends were talking crap about their wives ( who happened to be married to Lianas ) 3 best friends and the 4 women over heard . They all said some mean stuff . Liana went home to her dad and that's where the fun began for her and for him to. She wants a divorce he says no only if she makes him miserable enough to not want to come home .
So that is her new goal .make him pay and make him miserable so he grants her divorce . however he loves the wild sassy women she is .. And starts to fall in love with her .she is also falling in love with him .. The whole book revolves around the 3 mean things he said all the way in chapter 1 .. And what the other husbands said about their wives.
I would hope there will be other books for the closure on Giavanni and Mia , Lorenzo and Clarissa and finally Emilio and Tatiana although since their problems also related to the couple of nasty things said I doubt full books can be wrote for them . maybe one long book that closes all of them up .
Again I prefer the old writing style and hotness of Sam's books . but thats me and I have the ability to not buy them anymore if I don't like them so I will have to see... I prefer the dark romance as opposed to the sweet ones
Four friends overhear a conversation their husbands had about them while they were out of the room. They all said some hurtful things, and the women started acting differently around them.
Liana was always agreeable to her husband, as that is what her father said a wife should be like, so that's what she did. When she heard that Diego thought she was a doormat, she no longer kept her real personality a secret, and she went from complacent to sassy and a little wild. Liana also asked Diego for a divorce, but he refused. His 'doormat' wife became the opposite of who she was, and to her surprise, that was the kind of person her husband had wanted her to be - and he started to fall for the real Liana.
The book did not have a ton of spice (mention of it, but more closed-door); it was more about them finding out who they really were and how they were deepening their relationship. He ended up liking his new bratty and feisty wife. I enjoyed the back-and-forth banter they had, and the chemistry was strong once she began to show her true self.
I'm curious to know what the other three wives' stories are!

Liana is in an arranged marriage with Diego. She didn't want to get married, so her father just told her to be nice and agreeable to make Diego happy, and maybe the marriage wouldn't be so bad. Liana's personality is really not that docile.
She's friends with the wives of Diego's friends, and one day while they are all at Diego's house for dinner, the wives overhear their husbands bad-mouthing them. Diego admits he doesn't enjoy coming home to a doormat wife. Liana walks out of the house and goes to her father's house.
It doesn't make any difference because her father just invites Diego in to grab Liana and take her back to their house.
She tells Diego she wants a divorce. He says only if she makes his life hell. If HE doesn't want to be married, he will divorce her. So she proceeds to go shopping. That's it. She also fires his personal chef, so that she can cook all their meals. But she's a fantastic cook, so that doesn't make his life hell at all. I didn't understand how she thought any of this shit would make any difference to Diego.
And of course, she's cute when she's angry, so he actually starts to like her the more she tries to piss him off. My least favorite trope.
Then Diego admits to her brother that he won't really divorce her if she meets the conditions he set. So it's all a pointless story to begin with.
And I don't know what is going on with this author, but the writing wasn't good. It was like a bad debut novel.
I love a Sam crescent book, they never fail to impress me. I enjoyed this book I thought it had a good moral which was you don't need to be anyone but yourself.
Liana is from a close family her dad is in the mafia but never failed to treat his wife who passed when liana was 10 and his kids with love, which is rare in the mafia liana is married to Diego and has been for 6 months when liana hears Diego call her a doormat and then say actually doormats have more use at least there funny. Liana is understandably upset and goes to her dad's house leaving Diego at the party. Diego follows where her dad Enzo punches him then tells him liana is not who he thinks she is. He gave her advice when she married and so liana followed and changed her personality she thought if she was a quiet, amenable wife he would be happy. Liana wants a divorce but the only way Diego will give her one is if she makes his life miserable so that's what she sees out to do while he sets out to win the real liana over he loves her fire, her stubbornness, her kindness. Can they sort things out between them? Can she forgive him? Does he deserve a second chance?
Well written, enjoyable boom.

Liana was not a doormat. Her husband Diego Marchetti seemed to think so though. He and his friends thought all the wives were. Now the women are going to make their lives hell. Diego didn’t know his wife at all. He thought she was a doormat because she always was agreeable. But he learns that that is not his wife but a role she played. Now he sees that she is a strong woman that he wants to keep by his side. But he has to make her realize that a divorce is not happening. I love this. The women stood up to their husbands. They saw and heard what they said and now they all have to make things right. Diego learned a great deal about his wife. She was more then he thought. He had to work to change things. Is was a rough road and I loved it. We don’t get to find out the fate of all the women but I love that Liana kept him on his toes.

Diego and his friends sure put their foot in their mouths when they got caught by their wives complaining about them. All the wives heard what they had to say and turned all their lives upside down. Diego had no idea that the timid wife he thought he had was his match in every way. Liana was pissed and she was going to make her husband pay. She had been told to make him happy to give her husband everything he wanted she was done hiding her true self from him and went on shaking up his life. This book was so much fun to read I laughed my way through as well loved when Liana kept shocking Diego with her behaviour. This was so well-written and made for an enjoyable read that you will want to keep reading. I was so disappointed when it was finished. I'm hoping this author comes out with books with the other 3 ladies that are apart of this story got to read how their journeys end up with their husbands. This is a must read!!!
Doormat is the story of married couple Liana and Diego Marchetti. He is a member of the Mafia and never wanted to be married. Liana got married and has tried to be the perfect Mafia wife that she thought Diego wanted. But when she overhears him talking to his friends about her, and when he calls her a doormat, that is the last straw. She decides she wants a D-I-V-O-R-C-E and will also teach Diego a big lesson at the same time. She may have been playing a part for him before but she is not playing any more and now her true self has been released she will not be playing for him any longer. As with all men Diego realizes just who Liana truly is when it may just be too late. He is going to have to work on getting her back and proving he is the man for her this time around. This is a quick read with a lively story-line and dynamic characters. An enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours in an afternoon.
This was a wild and entertaining read that showcases how a husband can so fully mess up (and he's not alone in messing up ;P) and find out the consequences are not anything he would have expected from his agreeable wife. Liana and her friends overhear their husbands cutting them up and let's just say none of them were happy. Talk about stepping in it! Yowch! Liana tosses her father's advice on how to be a good wife out and gets ready to move on from Diego. Their passion was hot but he thought that was all they had. He's shocked at her spark, her skills and her courage. He definitely does not want a divorce but he's got a fight, and enemies, on his hands. This was a one-sit read for me and I loved it. I did giggle at the mess the guys got themselves into and sat back to see how it would unfold. So good and I can't wait for what's next by this author!
No one likes to hear what their partner really thinks about them, and that's the same for Liana and Diego. She's played a role throughout their marriage, and that's not who she really is. When one evening she overhears her husband telling his friends that she's a doormat, she's had enough. She tells Diego she wants a divorce, and now that he's said it, she's finally free and lets her true self out. Diego doesn't know what's happening to him, and because he didn't expect this, she's filing for divorce. He slowly realizes that he loved her just the way she is, and now he has to do everything he can to keep his wife and make amends. Many emotions, love, friendship, shortcomings, second chances, and ultimately a Hea...

Oh man this book was amazing from the first chapter!!!! I couldn’t put this book down and enjoyed the drama, push and pull, and the angst and spice were on point. I loved this storyline and devoured this book. This book is a darkish romance and has the perfect amount of grovel and redemption from the MMC. I loved the strength and the lengths the FMC went to; to get what she wanted. Holy cow this book was a wild ride of showing the MMC looks can be deceiving. The characters were complex and had a slow/medium burn chemistry. I loved the banter, stubbornness and quick wit both characters had throughout this book. A beautifully written second chance romance!! Can’t wait for what comes next from this author.

"Yeah, she is great if you like them completely compliant, not bending any rules, and like a puppy with a bone. Honestly, she is a doormat, and no matter what I say, she agrees with me."
That’s not easy to hear, but she is literally everything but that, so she stoped playing that persona and in doing that she thought that’s what would push Diego to grant her freedom - but unlucky (or lucky) for her - he loved her true self.
Amazing book full of change, being your true self, happiness, acceptance, self reflection, growth, friendship and love.
And in this book hidden, were three potential books and stories I would so love to hear.

Liana followed her father's advice and began her married life being sweet, biddable and always doing what he asked her to with a smile. Bad advice. Following her father's advice gets her called a doormat by her husband. Liana is quick to show him the error of his ways and Diego likes what he is seeing.
I like how Liana is more capable than she seemed. Too often the women in the mafia books are sweet (usually with an inner strength) but not nearly as capable as Liana. Diego is a bad husband. He just found her boring in the beginning. The Liana she showed him in the beginning is nothing the type of woman he wants.
Hoping there will be stories for Liana's friends as their husbands were equally mean in their comments about their wives.
A mix of pleasure and pain. A marriage arranged between the families, that neither party wanted. Liana was not her true character, acting meek and mild on her father's advice. Diego thought her a doormat and boring..until she showed him otherwise. Challenging him at every opportunity, trying to rile him into giving her a divorce, but it only served to encourage his interest and admiration. Could they actually find a middle ground to make it work and become true love..time would tell and something or someone had to bend a little. Who would that be..the capo or his not so compliant wife. Enjoyable reading for a shorter story.

Oh Lort! SC did it again! This romance between Liana and Diego is funny. It is not as rough as the author's usual mafia offerings, but has a lighter madcap feel. Liana has always tried to be the "perfect" wife for Diego. In doing so, she's hidden her true self. When she overhears Diego dismiss her as a doormat to other men, she is deeply hurt. And angry. Now Diego finally sees who he truly married, and he's all for it. Only his pissed off wife wants nothing to do with him. Let the groveling begin! 😥 I am loving it. I do wonder if we will see the stories of the other three couples in the book? That would be fun.

Originally, I was reluctant to read this book, due to the title, but because I really enjoy this author’s work, I gave it a chance, and it was the best thing I’ve done!
It just goes to show don’t judge a book by its cover as Diego is about to find out in this witty, swoon-worthy read.
I loved everything about this entertaining storyline, a mafia themed read with some action, mistakes, misunderstandings and lots of sizzle. The secondary characters are wonderful, and I hope they get their own story.

This Sam Crescent book has an amazing storyline, good pacing, and a lot of interesting dialogue between the main characters Diego and Liana. She overhears her husband call her a doormat, and all hell breaks loose!! She shows him exactly how wrong he is! This was a well written story, with humor, anger, hot sex, and a real sense of family. I loved reading about Liana and her friends, who also overhead less than stellar comments from their husbands. I read this book in one sitting. It really held my interest, and I couldn’t wait to read what happened next. Well worth reading!!!
Diego and Liana’s story felt a little more light-hearted than some of my recent Sam Crescent reads. Diego still sucks, but Liana made my day. I wish she got her chance to travel away, and I would have loved to see a madcap chase after her, but then that wouldn’t be the story we got today….
I loved his ‘doh’ moment when he realised how much he effed up, and his adorable and some not-so-adorable actions to win her over cracked me up. Still steamy/spicy, still a little dark, but it didn’t feel heavy. A fun read.

This is a mafia romance where our two main characters are married. This wasn’t a love match and when Liana overhears her husband talking badly about her character to his friends for laughs, she’s had enough!
Liana challenges Diego head on and wants a divorce. Surprisingly, Diego won’t let her out of the marriage even though he didn’t seem to have a very high opinion of his wife. This all changes when he sees the fire in her as she stands up for herself. Feeling foolish, Diego has to figure out how to fix the damage he’s done to their marriage.

Not as dark as other books by Crescent, but definitely not light on emotion. Liana, who has only been trying to be the perfect wife, overhears what her husband calls her. A doormat! Now she wants a divorce from Diego, and it’s that revelation that turns the way he sees her on its heels. Liana’s been hiding her true self for too long. From there they grow as a couple with respect for one another. A quick read that grasps until it’s over.

The four women are friends, and are married to mafia men. They happen upon the library where there are security monitors, and they all hear what their husbands think about them.
This is about Liana and Diego. Her mother died when she was ten, so she doesn’t know how to be a good wife. Her father told her to just go along with her husband, so she does, but she hears her husband say that she’s dull and a doormat. Hence the title…
This was a fun read, and I really enjoyed it. There’s a bit of action, a bit of spice, and a puppy! 🐶
I absolutely loved this! I thought I’d hate him for what he said but I loved the growth of them as husband and wife. I would have loved to of known how the other three turned out. I would love to know if Tatiana forgave Emilio, although out of everyone, I didn’t like him the most, purely because he said what he did and for no reason. I hope she made him grovel and then some.
Definitely another amazing read by the amazing Sam Crescent
I enjoyed this book immensely! On her father's advice, Liana altered how she responded to everything after marrying Diego. She later discovers that this was not the right decision. Now, they are going to truly get to know each other and maybe even realize they have love, despite it being an arranged marriage. A fantastic story, well-developed characters, and a perfect happy ending.
