A rich and surprisingly humorous dive into the experience of adult children caring for elderly parents and clearing out their 23-room lake home. Author Plum Johnson lends her artist's eye to describing the dilemmas of day to day living and the stages of grief and relief she and her siblings felt. I recommend the book for its humanity and for tackling the practical issues of getting rid of objects and selling a beloved family home.

The author is talking up growing up in Ontario Canada and when her Mother dies she must clean out the house to put it up for sale. Homes in the area cost 20,000 in 1950 and now they were worth 2.5 million. So many memories and unresolved feeling are reviewed here. Good story- I would read more of her work

Some interesting parts about aging parents I can relate to in many ways. The telling of the story seemed disorganized in timeline. The tone of the author drifted from self-deprecating to self important.

Not what I expected. So, it was disappointing. And honestly a bit boring. I only kept going because I needed to know if she kept the house or not.

I loved this book. Even after I was finished reading it, it made me think of what I have still in the drawers that my children would have to deal with. The mother was so believeable. Her love for Sears made me think of my sister who goes to Kohls every other day!
