To enjoy this fully, you have to do a couple of things. First of all, you need to enjoy stories that include probable soulmates. You also need to be content with the fact that the story is around 100 pages… So the plot will reflect that. I enjoyed when we veered off the beaten path to experience the Highland games, though I wish we could have delve further in the Scottish culture if we were going to go there at all. I really did feel like I was in Scotland! But like with most novellas, my issue, as I sort of said already, is that I wish this had been longer. The chemistry was fantastic. The backstory was wonderful. I loved the ties with the couple from roughly 100 years ago. I loved the element of magic. I’m looking forward to more novels by the fabulous Lauren Smith!!
This is the second book I've read by Lauren Smith and I would definitely read another. Her character development pulls you into the story so quickly, it's amazing. The writing in the letter destroyed me. Honestly, I feel like The Kilted Groom could have been a longer novel. It would have been nice to see more yearning and a bit more plot development and some of their ancestors' letters sprinkled in.

When her grandmother dies, she leaves her estate to Ainsley Hazelwood but to claim her inheritance, she is tasked with returning an old ring to a family in Scotland. Feeling somewhat adrift and a bit lonely since her grandmother passed, Ainsley decides to quit her job and set out for Scotland. But right from the beginning, things do not go as planned when her car gets stuck in the mud on the way to the B&B she is staying at. With no cell service and a raging storm, it looks like it is going to be a long, cold night in her rented car, that is until she is saved by a very handsome local – Leith Creighton. She is wary at first, but he proves himself to be a great guy and they enjoy each other’s company for the night, not expecting to see each other again. Ah, the best laid plans…
Leith Creighton, the Earl of Blair and the owner of Blair Castle, a medieval fortress build on the edge of Loch Awe, is on his way home when he comes upon Ainsley. He offers to take her to the B&B and ends up spending the night there himself. When he returns home the next day, he wonders how he can see her again, even though they agreed to just one night. So, no one is more shocked than he is when she shows up at his door. It turns out her Great-Great-Great Grandmother was engaged to Leith’s Great-Great-Great uncle Daniel, who perished in WWI. Ainsley’s relative Saoirse was heartbroken when Daniel died and left Scotland, she returned their letters to the family, but kept her engagement ring, which was a family heirloom. Leith is shocked that Ainsley is returning it and shares Daniel and Saoirse’s love story with her. Not wanting to break their connection, he offers her a job. Is it possible that they could continue the love story that their relatives had stolen from them?
This was such a great story, I loved Ainsley and Leith and was rooting for them right from the start! The writing was great, it was paced nicely and had just the right amount of spice. Ainsley and Leith have a believable connection right from the beginning and I loved the way the author wove the story of the ring into their story, making their instant attraction almost feel fated. My only complaint was I wish it was longer, and I wanted to experience their HEA, but there is the promise of another story, so fingers crossed this is not the last we will see of them! Other than that, I was enchanted and would happily recommend this book.

Taking an antique ring to a stuffy old earl in Scotland should be easy, right? Well, not quite.
The Kilted Groom by Lauren Smith is a delightful, quick read brimming with charm and a touch of magic. While I found myself wishing the story were longer, its brevity didn’t diminish its enchantment. Sometimes, the most magical tales are fleeting, leaving us yearning for more.
Ainsley Hazlewood embarks on a heartfelt journey to Scotland to honor her grandmother’s last wish: return an old family ring to its rightful owner. But fate has a curious way of weaving its threads. When Ainsley’s car gets stuck in the mud, she’s rescued by Leith, an irresistibly handsome Scotsman whose rugged charm is as captivating as the misty Highlands.
A sip—or maybe more—of Scottish whiskey loosens her guard, leading to an unforgettable, passionate evening with Leith. But when morning comes and he’s gone, she treats it as just a fleeting encounter. Duty calls, after all. Armed with the treasured ring, she sets out to meet the grumpy old earl she’s been expecting.
Imagine her surprise when that earl turns out to be none other than Leith.
Destiny? Fate? Perhaps a sprinkle of both. As Ainsley navigates this unexpected twist, it becomes clear her grandmother’s last wish wasn’t just about returning a ring—it was about finding her own missing piece. The past and present intertwine, revealing a connection between Ainsley and Leith that transcends time. Did her grandmother foresee this encounter? In my heart, I believe she did.
Leith and Ainsley’s chemistry is electric, their bond undeniable. Their love story feels like a whispered legend carried on the Highland winds—sweet, magical, and destined. The Kilted Groom isn’t just a romance; it’s an enchanting journey where hearts find their way home, guided by love, history, and a touch of serendipity.

I enjoyed this sweet and spicy contemporary strangers-to-lovers/instalove romance set in the Scottish Highlands. The well written plot is romantic, emotional and contains a touch of myth, family legend, and steamy love scenes. I really liked the characters, but I would have liked to get to know them better, especially Leith, who was a bit neglected. The sizzling chemistry between them was palpable from the start, and I liked the idea that they were fated mates and ultimately had the happy ending that their ancestors were denied. But I was even more moved by the tragic love story of their ancestors, especially Daniel's Blood Letter, which brought tears to my eyes, and the inner strength of Ainsley's great-great-grandmother, who started a new life after her loss. A few questions remain unanswered, such as whether Leith’s castle will be chosen for the TV show, but I imagine they will be answered in the next book of the series.
Ainsley Hazelwood travels to Scotland to fulfill her grandmother's last wish and return an antique ring to the descendant of her great-great-grandmother’s fiancé. When she gets stuck in the rain on her way to her B&B, the attractive Leith Creighton comes to her rescue. The two are instantly attracted to each other and spend a passionate night together, but the next morning Leith has left with a word. When Ainsley arrives at the castle to return the ring to its rightful owner, she comes face to face with Leith, who turns out to be the Earl of Blair. Together, they explore the tragic history of their ancestors, and when Leith asks Ainsley to stay and help him promote his castle, she agrees, even though he is off-limits as her client...
If you like quick-read instalove romance novels full of heart and heat, you're sure to enjoy this book!

This book follows Ainsley Hazlewood, an American woman fulfilling her late grandmother’s final wish by traveling to Scotland to return an antique family ring to its rightful owners.
What starts as a simple errand quickly turns into an unexpected adventure when her car gets stuck in mud on her first night, leading to a heroic rescue by the charming Scotsman Leith. 😜 Their instant chemistry sparks a passionate one night stand at a cozy inn, but when Ainsley wakes to discover she’s alone, she thinks no more and returns to her task at hand. Only to find …. Da da daaaaa (yup you guessed it…) her hero is the very person she needs to see!! 😳
This is a quick, engaging read, perfect for a cozy afternoon.
It’s novella length, so the pacing is brisk and to the point. It also hits most of the tropes along the way… the meet/cute rescue, the fiery night of passion, the shocking reunion, and the emotional journey toward a happily ever after, the spice level is satisfying without overwhelming the story.
I really liked Ainsley and Leith. Ainsley is determined to honour her grandmother’s wishes. And Leith brings that classic brooding yet charming Scottish hero vibe. 😉 I liked how they were tied the through generations (great great grandparents and that’s where the ring comes into it.)
Although short, it looks like the setting for maybe a new series 🤞 book two is set in the highlands, and so I hope to see more of Leith and Ainsley.
The description of the highlands had me thinking of another certain tv series with magic/stones and cheeky Scot’s 😜 I could easily imagine the heather swaying and the smells coming my way.
So, if your looking for a quick read with your coffee, then grab this one.
I absolutely loved this sweet story about Ainsley, a young woman who is trying to come to terms with the death of her beloved grandmother. As a last request, she travels to Scotland to return a family heirloom to the original owners. She must track down the Earl of Blair and return the heirloom ring his ancestor gave her great-great-great-grandmother before he was killed in WWI.
Ainsley is rescued by Leith, a nice local Scotsman, when her car is mired as she nears her destination. He takes her to a local inn and pub where they get tipsy and decide to spend a night together, no strings attached. The next morning, when she inquires as to the whereabouts of the Earl of Blair from the innkeeper, she is shocked to learn that Leith is actually the Earl she is seeking.
From this awkward start, the story really takes off as she agrees to work for Leith as a publicist for his castle. The story of their ancestors "love for the ages" tragic story really tore at my heart. The journey to a HEA for Ainsley and Leith is sweet and heartwarming, with a dose of ghostly influences, and I loved getting to know them both. I was pulling for this wonderful couple from the start!
I loved the world building with the castle, and the secondary characters are nicely drawn and really add depth to the story. I will definitely be looking into other books by this author as this one gave me all the feels!!!

Standalone Highland romance begins a new Scottish series I was entranced from page one. I would hazard a guess that many who enjoy a good Scottish Highland romance know of a well-loved television show about time travel. So far there is none of that, but the next book or books will be based on a show and its cast falling in love in the Highlands; with a wee bit of “woo-woo” to capture the essence of that far off time and place. I cannot wait! In Ainsley’s grandmother’s will, she has given Ainsley a task to return a ring to its rightful owners in Scotland. The story goes that Ainsley’s great-great-great-grandmother, Davina was given the ring by her betrothed Daniel, the Earl of Blair in Scotland. Unfortunately, Daniel died in WWI (his “blood letter” is heartbreaking); Davina left Scotland for the States after that and never returned. We meet Ainsley at 28yo while she is slogging through a deluge to her B&B in Scotland; when she gets mired in the mud, she is rescued by a very handsome Scot named Leith who is 29yo. They spend a glorious night at the B&B and part ways. Thus begins a short but very steamy and delicious story. If you love hot Scots finding their forever lass, read this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of it through BookSirens.

What a heartbreaking end to the life of American Ainsley Hazlewood, whom hadn't left her home land but even her dear dear grandmother was passing away she'd promised her that she'd take this ANCIENT HEIRLOOM given to her 3x great grandmother prior to the great war and her beloved didn't return. Well on this cold first night out in this vast small town in a country she doesn't know about apart from that agree had to give it back to the Earl. With that first start a handsome Scotsman saw her stuck on the road with lashing off rain and what did he do he gets her bags and herself to Carry into his 4x sand takes her to the inn she's booked into and this is where she and Leith Creighton her rescuer supped and dined together and she having her first Scott's whiskey, well her first any whiskey and one thing led to another. Then it was the next morning when she went to return the long patter heirloom to The Earl of Blair, she dined face to face with her first one night stand and it's from that day forward THEIR LIVES CHANGES. It's a beautiful LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT NOVELLA

This was a quick but emotional read. Wonderful characters, a well paced story, sizzling chemistry all added to my enjoyment. I loved both Leigh & Ainsley & their instant attraction, I also loved the story of their ancestors, be warned have some tissues handy when Daniel’s letter is read. It was an absolute delight & I loved every page I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
There are a lot of things in this world we don’t understand but have lasting effects far beyond our own lives!
This modern day love story with a story about their ancestors many years ago!
We have Ainsley Hazelwood a PR agent from Cincinnati who recently loss her grandmother! She has one last wish for her to return a ring to Scotland to the current resident of Blair Hall.
There is a resident Earl of Blair aka Leith Creighton whom Ainsley just shared an explosive one night stand with!
They have a shared history with their ancestors and now between themselves! Their chemistry is explosive and their connection very real!
Can Ainsley have a real love and a connection that was lost to her Great, Great, Great grandmother here in the present? Leith is everything Ainsley never knew she needed! Can they build a future from their shared past? Bravo I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What an amazing novella Scottish castle ✔️ Gorgeous Laird ✔️ Quest to bring an antique ring home ✔️ An absolutely amazing short story. I adored every minute of it and would quite happily have kept reading more of Leith and Ainsley’s story. I literally did not want it to end. The Laird of the castle, Leith was portrayed as the gorgeous Highlander that we all would love to fall head over heels in love with. Where as, Ainsley was the grieving granddaughter sent on a mission to put things right. Their connection was powerful and this story was beautifully told with a little bit of steaminess and a touch of the paranormal to add interest. Loved this so much and I’m so looking forward to future stories. Thank you to Lauren Smith and Booksirens for the opportunity to read this short story.

I read the Kilted Groom while curled up on a rainy cold evening and it was perfect! This book might be on the shorter side, but it covered an array of emotions including making me cry so many happy tears.
Ainsley and Leith are adorable both separately and especially when they are together. The Fife’s were so welcoming it makes me want to visit a quaint little Scottish inn ASAP. Author Lauren Smith did a great job painting the picture of the village, the connections to the land and people, and showcasing the family history. I enjoyed the little supernatural aspects. The love stories were pulling at my heart strings!

After having read a couple of her other books, I accepted a copy of this one.
This is the first time in quite a while that I've read a book like this that didn't involve shifters or monsters of any kind. And I loved it! I've seen men leave reviews for books like these complaining that they're "just so that fat girls and feel like they can be loved". Guess what? They CAN! And, I don't recall it mentioning her being bigger at all…
This is the type of love story that I'm sure everyone wants. Rescued on the side of the road by a gorgeous stranger. Love at first site. Perfect first night. I'm not sure that I believe in fate or love at first site, but if it's true, I'm here for it! I was definitely here for Leith and Ainsley…
The Kilted Groom is a delightful short novella filled with touches of destiny and a hint of magic woven through time. For such a quick read, it manages to deliver atmosphere, charm, and a lovely sense of wonder.
I especially enjoyed the mystery surrounding the ring and the heartfelt love story connected to it. The supporting characters add warmth and personality, making the world feel fuller despite the novella’s length.
Honestly, I only wished it were longer—simply because I was so invested—but as a short, magical romantic escape, it’s refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.

After her grandmother died, Ainsley was tasked with returning an old ring to Scotland, the home of her ancestors. Well, luck wasn’t exactly with Ainsley when not only could she not find the inn she supposed to be staying in, but her rental got stuck in the mud. Lucky for her though, a very nice, and very handsome, man stopped and offered to take her to the inn. This is a very beautiful story, of generations and love. I especially enjoyed the letter her grandmother wrote to Ainsley which was just the beginning and led to a beautiful ending. It would appear this story is leading to others which I look forward to reading.

MFC Ainsley Hazelwood is in Scotland to return an antique ring to it’s rightful owners, as per her late grandmother’s will.
The Kilted Groom is a lovely little novella from author Lauren Smith and begins for Ainsley when her rental car gets stuck in mud during a rainy evening attempt to find the bed and breakfast where she was staying while in Scotland.
Rescue comes in the form of Scotsman MMC Leith Creighton and as the evening progresses so does the attraction between them.
I found a wonderful and romantic story that was nicely written, whose characters were engaging, held a few surprises and brought together two people who were always fated by magic and the past HEA.

I picked up this book thinking it was a different Lauren Smith author, so surprised it was set in modern times which isn't wholly thing. As the book is so short it moves at a furious pace, and we don't get to know either of our main characters well, which is annoying. This could have been a good read if the characters were better drawn. I liked the letter from Daniel it showed some of the horrors felt in the trenches and brought it to life. The switching between land rover, car and suv as reference to his vehicle annoyed, land rover worked no need to change description every chapter.
All too rushed to be a decent read. Less than an hour's reading.
Set in the present we travel with Ainsley Hazelwood to her ancestors home- Scotland landing on top of Leith the first night in a devil may care leap of faith moment Ainsley only realises their fated paths the next day when she sees Leith Creighton again.... Who just happens to be the Earl of Blair and the owner of Blair Castle. The place where she was to visit and leave an old heirloom for the rightful owners.
This is a lovely story of loss and fate. Time past, castles and love lost.. and found.
Truly enjoyed this wonderful work of Lauren Smith.

Coincidences DO happen and in this case, they are delightful ones! Leith and Ainsley are delightful characters/people that make this story feel RIGHT in all the best ways. What are the odds that a stranded American would be rescued on a country snow-bound road in Scotland by the very person she is fated to meet! Short but sweet I am glad the author did not rush the ending but gave us reason to believe that a bright future awaits this wonderfully romantic twosome. I look forward to the next rendition in this series and hope we meet up with Leith and AInsley again! Although I received a complimentary readers' review copy, my opinions are my own and freely given.
This is a sweet, well-written love story that I absolutely loved. The characters are charming and easy to connect with, and the story is a fast, engaging read. It’s a true page-turner, and I happily gave it five stars.
The story begins with Ainsley Hazelwood, an American woman who receives a blue box containing a ring and a letter from her grandmother, Agatha—the woman who raised her and meant everything to her. Wanting to honor her grandmother’s wishes, Ainsley sets off for Scotland to return the ring to its rightful owner, not knowing what awaits her there.

This was a perfect read on a rainy cold Sunday afternoon! It is a contemporary story set in the Scottish Highland filled with the wisps of fate, undeniable attraction and the whispers of the past. Ainsley and Leith find themselves drawn to each other and their relationship will melt your heart. I absolutely love how Lauren writes her longer novels but after reading The Kilted Groom, she has proven that she gives all the feels, the spice and the joy in any length book that she creates! Thank you Lauren Smith! I received an advanced reader copy and am leaving my voluntary review based solely on my personal reading experience.
Ainsley Hazelwood has come to Scotland to do one last thing for her late grandmother. She gets stranded in a storm and Leith Creighton comes across her. He takes her to her B and B. This was a novella, but I wish it had been longer, as it was excellent. Ainsley and Leith had chemistry that came off the pages. The scenery was amazing. The characters we meet in the book come to life as you read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

A charming novella where history and romance intertwine. After her grandmother’s passing, Ainsley travels to Scotland to return a family heirloom to the Earl of Blair Castle. What begins as a duty soon becomes destiny, as she and Leith find themselves rewriting the love story of their great-great-grandparents. Short, heartfelt, and easy to read—perfect for fans of cozy historical romance.

I loved reading The Kilted Groom. The book is a quick read, but that in no way detracts from it. The pacing is great, the spice level fits the story perfectly, and the history of the ring with Davina and Daniel's doomed story makes the current romance between Ainsley and Leith even sweeter. I would love to read more about this couple, but I also found the ending of the book to be a beautiful, hopeful, "happy for now." I highly recommend The Kilted Groom to readers who enjoy short, moderately spicy reads.

I didn't realize this was a novella with only about 6 chapters. It flew by quick and there wasn't enough time for story development. There is a mystery connection between Ainsley and Scotsman Leith's family history that brings this couple together. This series sounds like it's going to continue with standalones and by length I'm not entirely sure.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
-A charming, emotional journey that mixes Scottish magic with heartfelt romance. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Ainsley and Leith strike instantly, their connection glowing from their very first meeting. The blend of past and present—especially Daniel’s letter—adds a beautiful, tender depth.
Quick, passionate, and utterly delightful, this is a story that leaves the reader smiling through tears.
This novella was great. If I'm being honest I wasn't expecting much more than a smutty story but I was pleasantly surprised by this and I think the author did a great job of mixing plot with spice considering this was under 100 pages. Definitely recommend this one for a quick, heartwarming read with a side of spice. I mean, who doesn't want a strong, handsome, Scottish Laird to fawn over them?

I really wish the author had fleshed this out more. As it stands, it's barely a novella, more of an extended short story. I realize its all about the relationship, the full circle of the ancestors to the current day, but I want to know if they marry, if the Highlanders series is filmed there, if their story is used in the new show, etc. I feel like we just settled in and the author got tired and quit. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I enjoyed this novella. I think that the storyline was entertaining. It put two things that I love together in a story, romance and Scottish handsome men. I loved the characters. Ainsley and Leith were an interesting couple. I loved their passion. It felt so real. I enjoyed Lauren's dialogue. It sounded nice in my mind when I read it. I received a complimentary copy of this story, and I freely left this review.
