"Snow" by Landon Beach is a heartwarming departure from his usual thriller fare, and I absolutely loved it. Beach proves he can masterfully tell any kind of story, whether it's high-stakes action or an intimate Christmas tale about family and connection. If you're a longtime Beach reader like me, don't worry, his signature tight storytelling and deep character development are alive and well in this holiday novel. And if you're new to Beach's work, this is a wonderful place to start.

The story follows Jean, a young woman who travels to Michigan to sell her late grandmother Shirley Ruth's home. What Jean doesn't know is that her mother has set this up as a way for her to meet Annie, Shirley Ruth's lifelong best friend. Jean has been kept estranged from this side of her family her entire life, so discovering their history becomes an unexpected Christmas gift. Beach weaves Jean's story together with Annie's in such a beautiful way that I found myself caring equally about both women. Annie, mourning the recent loss of her dear friend Shirley Ruth, finds comfort in Jean, who looks just like her grandmother when she was young. Watching their relationship develop warmed my heart and made me teary-eyed more than once.

Jean's transformation is one of the most satisfying character arcs I've read in a while. She starts the story emotionally shut down, wounded by parents who couldn't be bothered to show up to her high school choir performances. But once she meets Scott, Shirley Ruth's grandson, and gets snowed in at the cabin with him and Annie, everything changes. Jean witnesses what real family looks like through Annie's deep love and care. Annie even buys Jean Christmas presents! As Annie shares more about Jean's family history, Jean begins to open up. She also sees Scott brave a blizzard to help people and experiences firsthand the warmth of family connection. Beach doesn't rush her journey; he lets it unfold naturally and authentically.

Now, I must be honest. While both women's stories moved me, Annie's story hit me much harder. Maybe it's because I'm getting older myself, but her loneliness really got to me. Here's a woman in the late stages of her life whose children stopped coming home for Christmas years ago. Only her grandson Scott makes the trip anymore. Her best friend has passed away, and she's watching her circle of friends shrink with each passing year. Beach doesn't sugarcoat the pain of aging and loss, but he also shows us the beauty of unexpected connections and second chances. Annie's story reminded me that it's never too late to find joy and form new bonds, even when it doesn’t seem possible.

As with all of Beach's books, "Snow" is beautifully paced and every detail matters. There's no filler here, just a complete and emotionally satisfying story that kept me turning pages late into the night. I have read the book twice and listened to the audiobook, which is always the mark of something special. Beach has proven he can write anything, and I'm already hoping he'll give us more stories like this one. "Snow" is an absolute must-read for the holiday season—a story about family, loss, and discovering who we really are. Grab a cup of hot cocoa, curl up by the fire, and prepare to have your heart both broken and mended. I can't recommend this book enough!

As a tenacious loyalist of Landon Beach’s work, I have learned that this man knows no fatigue. I’m also willing to wager that he mocks traffic safety. He seems to be in tireless pursuit of writing every genre of text; lanes are for suckers. Every time he whips across the dotted lines into a new sort of story, I learn that I can love a genre I’ve never touched.

This time I came to appreciate a novel that feels centered in emotional intelligence, taking a submarine’s plunge into the emotional depths of challenging family histories and the complex navigation of those family members’ loyalties. I particularly appreciate his taking a subject as intimidating as “broken famil[ies]” (as he refers to them) and applying such empathy and patience, even for those who are responsible for inflicting emotional suffering on their children. As a father of three, I found myself reflecting quite often on how my decisions with my children now will manifest in their future lives, and, as I think you’ll find out, if you make the wise choice of hauling this novel into your life, Landon Beach’s central characters are instructive, compasses pointing toward the decisions your children will ultimately be grateful for and you will be proud of.

I also enjoyed the contrast between the pomp of the fast-living, lascivious marketing executives and the sturdiness of the wholesome, dependable Midwesterners. I wished throughout the novel that I could haul in wood with Jean and sit by Annie’s fire, that I could ride along with Scott on the snowmobile and help stranded motorists, that I could cook Christmas dinner in Annie’s kitchen, that I could surprise them each with my own thoughtful gifts, snuck under the tree for them to unwrap. Beach does a masterful job of endearing his readers to this core group, those snowed into her immaculately kept home, and while feeling welcomed by Annie and Scott to come in out of the cold, I also felt a revulsion for Chantel and Urian, hoping throughout the story that Jean wouldn’t catch her flight to Greece. I wanted an ocean between them and Jean. I wanted to sit next to the piano with a hand drum and follow Annie and Jean; I didn’t want Jean anywhere near Chantel and Urian, both creeping her towards a bedroom. The marketing-executive world, as Beach painted it, seemed transactional and gross, so I was all the more glad to stay at Annie’s place.

Even though you ultimately steer us towards the wholesome types, Mr. Beach, you can’t trick me; you are still wild at the wheel. I never know what type of story to expect next, but I know I can’t wait. Thanks again for another great read. In the interim, between now and your next banger of a book, I’ll hang around, waiting for snow and hoping to get locked in the house with a Landon Beach tale.

You got me right in the feels with this one Mr. Beach! Sincerely, this one was everything I didn't know I needed. The vulnerability I experienced reading Snow was completely unexpected yet the journey of the story was so compelling to me that I managed to place myself inside it and go along for the ride. I could easily skip over this, but it really cannot be understated how the author went to great lengths to address the effects of a broken family and how much happens behind the scenes in our hearts, including the choices we make in future relationships in order to remain detached and safe emotionally. This book was more than entertainment for me personally, it was an experience and healing. The adventure of the winter storm and the cozy setting was a perfect and much needed transition from the "summer-fall" here where I live, right into thinking about celebrating the down time with family and slowing down to enjoy the holidays - and with a fresh perspective on seeing the people around me with new compassion in my heart. Every character was developed well and held relevance in relation to the main character. The transitions from comfort to danger & the contrast of shallow connection to meaningful love, extreme wealth to modest living - all bringing this story to a beautiful conclusion. I truly appreciated the time I spent reading this book. It was 100% the total package. The perfect holiday read!

This wintry novel will put you in the holiday spirit! This isn’t a sickeningly-sweet type of holiday novel; it’s a story of family history, life, and the decisions we make along the way. The author captures the push and pull of modern and traditional lifestyles, exploring facets of both. There is also a beautiful element of lifelong friendship and how it can grow across generations. I hesitate to say it describes a “simpler time” because meaningful friendships, family values, and traditions are needed in our lives now more than ever – that message comes through loud and clear. It’s a tug-on-your-heartstrings tale that shows the value of facing a painful past instead of running away and finding peace on the other side. Overall, this was a great “woman on a personal journey” story and it mostly a cozy read, with a touch of spice that can be savored or breezed through per your tastes. If you grew up in a small, snowy town (or wish you had) this is a perfect read to bring you back to your roots!

SNOW is a real Christmas story, a suspenseful, grown-up, optimistic book about the most complicated and powerful time of year. Listen to the dedication Beach gives it: “For all the broken families and lonely hearts out there, and for future generations, who will have to carry on long after we are gone.” That’s the spirit of Christmas, as far as I can tell, the heartbreaking “muddle through somehow” from “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” Watching Beach’s marooned group is not too far from looking in on the Cratchits: they’ve got a moment’s unsteady rest from the inevitable gloom outside, from the ignorance and bad plans of the wicked, they’ve got warm mugs and warm lights, friendship, and they’re trying to figure out how to be contented with the time. The story pulled me in because it runs on the unusual license we give each other to be kinder around Christmas, and on the potential that license has for clearing up our lives. What a good gift!

I’m always a fan of a good romantic holiday read, but I did not expect to find one written by an author known for mystery thrillers. That ended up being exactly why it worked so well.

The story has all the cozy elements you’d expect from a holiday romance — a charming rural setting, a slow-building connection, and of course, a snowstorm to trap our FMC back home, the place she’s been trying to forget (well, her grandparent’s house, technically). But it also adds layers of emotional depth through the main character’s journey of self-discovery and confronting her past, giving the story some real heart.

There’s romance, introspection, and just enough mystery that I couldn’t stop turning pages — yet I didn’t want to read it too fast! I’ll struggle to find another holiday romance with the same blend of coziness, depth, and intrigue.

Highly recommend if you want something more meaningful than the typical holiday romance, without losing any of the genre’s usual charm.

“Snow” wasn’t what I expected. I knew ahead of time the story had a holiday romance as part of the plot, but it was so much more than that. It was about what’s important in life—true friendships, empathy, relationships based on real love and mutual concern, kindness, and giving of yourself without expecting anything in return. Of course, there was Christmas and lots of holiday spirit, but the real meaning was about deep relationships and life that has purpose and value. The story unfolded mostly in a single house, which added to both the development of the relationships and coziness of being surrounded by snow in front of the fireplace. The descriptive parts of the story put the reader right there with the characters, which made it all the more charming and compelling. A great holiday read!

SNOW is a departure from Landon Beach’s earlier work, trading his signature thrillers and crime fiction for something quieter and more atmospheric. This is a winter book in every sense of the word—best read curled up under a blanket, hot cocoa in hand, with nowhere in particular you need to be.

While I gravitate toward the tension and edge of his thrillers, Snow succeeds on its own terms. It leans into mood and setting rather than pace, offering a gentle, reflective escape rather than a page-turning rush. The story unfolds slowly, inviting the reader to settle in rather than race ahead.

If you’re looking for Beach’s trademark high stakes and sharp twists, this one may feel subdued. But if what you want is escape fiction—something cozy, seasonal, and easy to sink into—Snow delivers exactly that. It’s a reminder that sometimes reading just needs to feel like a pause.

I have been a fan of Landon Beach since the release of his first book and he has never ceased to amaze me. I didn't know what to expect from the master of mystery thrillers choosing to write a romantic holiday book. Well, I got much more than I expected because I was anticipating a typical Hallmark movie of a book, and I should know better than to underestimate Beach. Instead, Beach provided a book with emotional depth, and key characters who demonstrated a profound capacity for experiencing, processing, and understanding emotions, which is a key component of the human condition. Be warned - I got blindsided by the ending, and for a brief moment in time, I wanted to throw my book at at the author. I'll leave it at that.

A dangerous blizzard and a festive Christmas setting bring excitement and warmth to this holiday story. Landon Beach’s new novel, “Snow,” is a page turner just like his other novels and he masterfully brings us this compelling story about a family living with years of secrets.
Jean is a young and successful executive caught up in the powerful world of work and wealth and is on her way to vacation in Greece with Urian, a rich and handsome co-worker. She first stops in Michigan to sell her late grandmother’s home and is delayed by the storm. She stays with Annie, her grandmother’s lifelong best friend. Annie also introduces Jean to her grandson, Scott. During her stay, many secrets are unveiled all in the safe space of Annie’s small and cozy log home.
Beach expertly brings the reader to the end with some surprising and unexpected twists and turns. This story is an excellent read any time of the year. The human desire to find truth in spite of heartache leads to understanding, growth, and forgiveness. Make sure you put this book at the top of your list.

Snow by Landon Beach is so different than his previous books . It brings together a young professional woman Jean Noel who has come to Michigan to sell her grandmother’s cottage, an old cherished friend ( Annie) of her deceased grandmother ( Shirley Ruth) and her park ranger grandson (Scott). They share their lives, memories, secrets. and Christmas traditions from long ago during an unexpected stay during a Michigan snowstorm.
This is the perfect book to give as a Christmas gift to family and friends. Enjoy

Not a typical love story!

Landon Beach has done it again! But this time, the story is different from his previous stories. It’s a love story between Jean and Scott, but told through the relationships of them and their families. It takes you on twists and turns and ins and outs of interpersonal relationships, and how they can have long lasting effects on one’s personality and future relationships. It was a very interesting read, and very divergent from what normally is considered a love story. Highly recommend!

Snow is a heartwarming exploration of love, family, friendship, and the power of multigenerational bonds. Both readers and Jean gain a glimpse of what genuine community looks like—especially when contrasted with her fast-paced life filled with surface-level connections. The snowy, cozy setting enhances the story’s emotional depth, making it great winter read.

Snow completely surprised me—in the best possible way. I picked it up expecting a cozy holiday romance, but what I found was something far deeper and more beautiful. This story wraps you in its wintry atmosphere from the first page, but it’s the characters who truly warm you: their layered histories, their quiet kindness, and the way their lives intertwine in one snowed-in house.
