Great book! I was surprised at just how much history it contained, and about historical stuff that I was completely unaware of. It has really sparked my curiosity now! Also, the characters were well developed, and the plot was suspenseful, intriguing and very uplifting! I'm hooked! Can't wait to read the sequel! (I really, Really hope there is one!)

My mom gave me this book to read after she met the parents of the 19 year old author this summer on a rafting shuttle in Idaho. I thoroughly enjoyed the first 100 pages of apt adventure, description and journey of this novel that Zi read on my plane ride home to Oahu. I respect the history research and talent as a writer that Fal has put into this work at such a young age. It will be neat to see how she develops as a writer in works to come.

Although an uplifting tale of four teenagers navigating their rites of passage in time travel and lineage, it took a lot of "one chapter a day" reading to finish this book. The last 250 pages thoroughly lost my interest for lack of pacing and too much description of unimportant rattlings. Splitting the perspective in four from each of the teenagers, I felt the author had a hard time keeping track of and relating some of the story, but the symbolism of the Lion is always fun to think about (very Narnia!). Thank you for including this.

One of the things I enjoy when reading a book is learning a new nuance or fact about a place, thing, whatever, that I never knew before. I enjoy learning, especially when I am not expecting it! When the Lion Roars incorporates interesting information while providing a fun and exciting tale along the way. The book has a nice pace and is a "fun read" with adventure, humor, hope, and excitement that keeps you turning the pages. Nice job! Can't wait for the sequel!
