Single-minded medical resident Holly Chang has a secret she won’t be able to keep.

Everyone knows that omegas can’t be doctors, not with the alpha-dominated medical establishment still stuck a hundred years in the past. So when she arrives in Heat Mountain for her month-long wilderness medicine fellowship, Holly plans to do the same thing she has always done…pretend to be a beta.

Until her designation suppressing medication fails spectacularly and she ends up accidentally bonded to the hottest pack of alphas in town, one of whom also happens to be her boss.

With both her medical license and professional reputation at risk, Holly also now has three obsessive alphas shadowing her every move. They will do anything to prove that she—and this bond—aren’t going anywhere.

But the challenge isn’t as simple as navigating her career and relationships, it’s learning to embrace a side of herself that she spent years trying to ignore.

As tensions rise and old wounds reopen, will Holly risk everything she thought she wanted for the pack she never knew she needed?

This cozy standalone RH Omegaverse romance is high heat and low angst with HEA guaranteed! DestinationVerse is a series of standalone romances that can be read in any order.

I enjoyed the story and got more than I expected from it. It wasn't just an OV book but also one that involved prejudice in the workplace, as well as overcoming grief, dealing with family expectations, and more. The story pulls at your heartstrings with the deeper undertones and then you have Kai added into the mix who brings the laughter in with his joking manner. The guys were all great and watch each one overcome their own issues and become more of themselves was great and I loved watching Holly strive for what she was trying to achieve.

3.75 stars. Cute and lighthearted, easy reading. I liked the Alaskan setting. It made the story a little more dynamic. The plot was a bit thin in parts, but usually this kind of story doesn't need a super strong plot to enjoyable. I would have loved a few more spicy scenes with all the Alphas. The ones that were there were entertaining, if not slightly tame for an omegaverse. The subplot with Ryder seemed kind of like a throw away and we could have done without it as it wasn't super fleshed out. Just a means to an end to wrap the story up.

A storm an omega and three alphas

Wonderful quick read! A hidden omega to pursue dreams and three alphas who slowly sniff out their mate.
When wanting to get your full MD is not something an omega can do but Holly proves everyone wrong and when a pack of dysfunctional alphas learn that pack is what heals all their broken pieces! Grayson learns even his scars are beautiful. Kai learns that not being a stereotype alpha has his omega wanting him and Noah who learns running from the past sloves nothing. Holly who learns to embrace being a omega it makes her stronger not weaker
5/5 sweet development, spice and HEA

Heat Mountain

I enjoyed this one! Holly is a doctor and hiding her designation because the world thinks omegas can't hold prestigious careers 🙄 add some snow and hot alphas and an unexpected heat you get some complicated relationships on top of already complicated relationships. Holly breaks boundaries down and makes a name for herself all while growing and accepting her designation and everything that comes with it.

Tropes: Omegaverse, Medical Resident, Secrets, Medicine Fellowship, Hidden Identity, Designation Suppressants Fail, Scent Matches, Reputation at Risk, Tension, Cozy Standalone, Reverse Harem, High Heat, Low Angst, HEA, Mysterious Illness, Mystery.

I honestly thought that this was going to be a cute, witty, palate cleanser. And yes, Heat Mountain did deliver on the charm and humor. But, at the same time, Nola also surprised me with the emotional depth that she poured into the pages of this book. This isn’t just a simple feel-good read, it’s a story that’s layered with mystery, adventure, longing, grief and a lot of unexpected joy. I can honestly say that I had a really hard time putting this book down at the end of the day. And honestly, it was just the spark that I needed to dive back into my reading journeys.

At the heart of Heat Mountain is an omegaverse reverse harem. It’s a love story that refuses to fall into the stereotypical traps of this genre. Of course, we see the attraction hitting hard and fast, and it’s undeniably fast and ferocious and yet at the same time it never feels like it’s this hollow “insta-love” that you can often get in this genre.

Rather, we get more of an insta-pull: and we watch as it’s almost like a magnetic physical connection pulls our characters into each other’s lives long before they are emotionally ready. And then after they are in each others lives, ready or not, we watch their raw need for each other slowly morph into this genuine desire, trust, and a meaningful relationship that none of them ever expected. And it’s here, where this book truly shines it’s brightest.

Nola did each one of the main characters justice in making sure that they all stand out on their own. They are all vibrant, distinct and not one of them steal the spotlight from another. They have this perfectly balanced dynamic, and their personalities enhance the personalities of the others around them and they all clash in just the right ways.

They share this mission that drives them all on, a mystery that’s been threaded in hazardous secrets that threatens to dismantle everything that they’ve been building together. As I live with an invisible/mysterious illness myself, I have always loved the “mysterious illness” trope and I have to say that I loved the way that this book just leaned right into that trope and then you pair that with the medical dynamics, you have a great hook that just enthralled me.

I do want to touch on Grayson. He is this quiet, ruthless man who has the softest insecurities hidden under a bandana I’ve ever seen. He is the one who will say little but feel everything. He was the one character that I didn’t really expect to love and care for and yet, I think he’s the one I love the most out of them all. I admit that I should know that characters like him have always been my greatest weakness and Nola knows just what she’s doing when it comes to creating her characters.

This book is far more than just your cute, witty read. It’s a wild, emotional, addictive roller coaster ride. And I am going to say that if this is the tone Nola is trying to set for the entire series then I am going to be strapping in for more because I am in love with her writing.

I highly recommend this book; it is a highly enjoyable read and it’s a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Heat Mountain is the second book in the DestinationVerse series (omegaverse, why-choose). Both books can be read as standalones. There's also the free novella Once Upon a Heat that takes place before book 1. It's available through a Bookfunnel link after finishing either book 1 or 2 (Kindle ebooks, possibly the same link is printed in the paperback editions?).

For those who have read the first book (and/or novella), you've met FMC Holly Chang as Josie's roommate. She's a beta who is really serious about her medical studies. Her family dynamic is complicated (tiger parents) and she needs the rotation in the quaint town of Heat Mountain to obtain her wilderness certfication. That way she can practice medicine the way she wants to, far away from big cities. All she needs is a few weeks of residency in the town's small hospital, keeping her head down and hard work. She doesn't expect her life to be complicated even more by her attending Noah and his friends Kai (rich, cheerful, but without purpose in life) and Grayson (quiet, serious, hidden depths). A bonding bite is just the beginning.

I quite frankly enjoyed reading this omegaverse series. The author writes interesting characters who are not stereotypically alpha, beta or omega. There's prejudice, designation-based discrimination, betrayal and redemption (not the MMC's). There's no third-act break-up or persisting misconceptions or miscommunication. Everyone has their own insecurities and reasons for their actions. The spicy scenes are good (but only MM in book 1, for those who want to know), the chemistry works between 2, 3 and more, and there's a lot of checking in. The omega's consent, boundaries and comfort always come first. Some scenes feel more "open door" than "explicit," but it's always hot. Although I had to re-read a few scenes because the body positioning was either unclear (front to back? Back to back?) or felt illogical (no judgment here, it's my opinion). Sometimes scenes didn't have enough prep and I don't recall birth control options discussed in all the books. Maybe I should've shut off my logical thinking brain in those instances though ;-)

So why didn't I rate Heat Mountain higher than 3*? I'd give it 3.5* but that's not a GR thing. The final editing was... sloppy. Words and parts of sentences are occasionally missing. Once or twice the names were switched around, so Kai was doing something, but the context makes it obvious it was supposed to be Grayson.
I'd still read the author's future (not-dark-romance) books though!

Destination Verse Book 2 is a fun, heartfelt, and adventurous read! Holly and Josephine were roommates, Holly is an omega doctor, and Josephine is pregnant and moving out with her pack. Josephine's sister is Trinity from the first book, which adds a nice connection to the series.

Holly is determined to reach the top of her career, and the last step is obtaining her wilderness medicine certification. She travels to Heat Mountain, a remote mountain town, for eight weeks in Alaska, keeping a secret that she’s an omega. Upon arrival, she meets Jackson, the town’s pharmacist, who informs her that Dr. Mercer is away, so she’ll be seeing Noah instead.

Their first meeting isn’t a meet-cute but still funny, with Noah coming off as grumpy at first, though Holly quickly stands her ground. Noah is living with his friend Kai, and mutual friends Grayson and Holly have a chance encounter that feels more like a meet-cute, especially when Grayson takes Holly’s prescription to show Noah.

As winter storms approach, Holly finds herself caught in her first heat, alone and trembling in her cabin after running out of suppressants. Holly is on the verge of going into heat for the first time ever and is dangerously vulnerable. Noah and the others step in to help, with Noah offering Holly shelter at Kai’s cabin. It’s the first time Holly allows herself to be cared for, and she’s surprised to find comfort in their company.

Tension thickens as Grayson, Noah, and Kai become involved with Holly especially when Grayson reveals scars but also expresses his feelings, pulling Holly into a kiss. Noah is visibly upset but tries to navigate his feelings. Holly bonds with Noah, leaving a bond bite and starts to realize her feelings are more complicated, especially since she’s bonded with her boss.

The story also explores the relationship with Jamie, the last omega of interest to all three men, and delves into themes of love, pack, and acceptance. Holly’s interactions with the locals, her discovery of lead contamination from Grethorn Industries, and her determination to uncover the truth add layers to the plot.

Overall, this book is adorable, funny, and full of heart. The ending is particularly satisfying. I loved how it balances romance, adventure, and humor!

I picked up this book expecting something light, cute, and witty, just a little palate cleanser to reset my reading brain. And while it absolutely delivered on charm and humor, it also surprised me with the emotional depth tucked between its pages. What I thought would be a simple feel-good read turned into a story layered with mystery, adventure, longing, grief, and so much unexpected joy. I started it at five in the evening, telling myself I’d only read a few chapters, and by the time the sun came up, I’d devoured the entire thing. It was exactly the spark I needed.
At its core, this is a reverse harem, omegaverse love story, but it refuses to fall into the typical traps of the genre. The attraction hits fast, undeniably and ferociously, but it never feels like the hollow “insta-love” you sometimes get in romance. Instead, it’s more like insta-pull: a magnetic physical connection that forces these characters into each other's lives long before they’re emotionally ready. And watching that raw, instinctive need slowly shift into genuine want, trust, and something meaningful? That’s where this book shines.
Each main character stands on their own, vibrant and distinct, without anyone stealing the spotlight. Their dynamic is balanced, their personalities complementing and clashing in all the right ways. There’s a shared mission driving them, a central mystery threaded with dangerous secrets that threaten to unravel everything they’re building together. I had no idea how much I loved the “mysterious illness” trope until this book leaned into it, and paired with the medical dynamic, it hooked me instantly.
And I have to talk about Grayson. The quiet, ruthless man with the softest insecurities tucked under a bandana? The one who says little but feels everything? I didn’t expect him to take up residency in my heart, but here we are. Characters like him are my weakness, and this author clearly knew exactly what they were doing.
Overall, this book was far more than the cute, witty read I thought I was getting, it was a wild, emotional, addictive ride. And if this is the tone the series is setting, I’m absolutely strapped in for more.

Ferals, feelings, and pack-level heat… YES PLEASE

Heat Mountain by Nola Heart is everything I crave in an Omegaverse romance and then cranks the temperature up about ten notches.

This book doesn’t just simmer — it sizzles.

From page one, you’re thrown straight into a world of raw instincts, territorial tension, fierce loyalty, and that delicious pack dynamic that makes Omegaverse stories so addictive. The atmosphere is thick with danger, longing, and the constant push-and-pull between control and surrender… and I ate up every second of it.

And the PACK ENERGY?
Absolutely elite.

Protective, possessive, touch-her-and-die vibes.
Ride-or-die loyalty.
That intense “you’re ours now” chemistry that makes your heart race.

Nola Heart nails that perfect balance between emotional connection and primal instinct. The bonds feel deeper than just attraction — it’s fate, trust, safety, belonging. You don’t just watch the relationships form… you feel them locking into place.

And let’s talk about the heat level for a second 🔥

This book is spicy-spicy. The tension builds and builds until you’re practically yelling “JUST KISS ALREADY,” and when the romance finally hits? Whew. It delivers. Every scene is charged, playful, and electric without ever losing the emotional core. It’s passion with purpose — not just heat for heat’s sake.

Plus, Heat Mountain itself is such a vibe — wild, rugged, untamed — the perfect backdrop for a story about instincts, survival, and finding your place in a pack. It feels dangerous and cozy all at once, which somehow makes the romance even hotter.

By the end I was:
• blushing
• kicking my feet
• emotionally attached to the entire pack
• and immediately wanting a reread

If you love Omegaverse with strong pack bonds, protective alphas, fierce loyalty, big feelings, and plenty of spice, this one is a must. Nola Heart absolutely understood the assignment.

Pack me up and send me to Heat Mountain, honestly.

For starters, for daring to go beyond the norms of what's expected of omega designations, I have to give this book 5⭐

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. With great world building and a quick intro into all thing's omega verse, this book was off to a great start with appearances from characters in Heat Island, the first book in the Destination Verse. I love it when characters pop back in for an update! Although this book features an omega, she's very much in hiding in fears of losing her well-deserved career as a doctor who dreams of specializing in wilderness care. Holly has been forced to hide who she is her whole life and in coming to Heat Mountain she's forced to come out into her nest. Noah, Kai and Grayson are three best friends held together by lifetime friendship and adversity who long to find an omega to share. They each had their own walls in this newly formed pack, and they were perfect for Holly who's also finding her way. This story was refreshing. Typically, omegas thrive in being the glue that holds packs together and are content with being homemakers and having children. This omega wanted it all and did everything in her power to ensure that she kept her career and her pack. Most importantly, she was supported by three amazingly caring alphas who respected her dreams and always put each other first. With the steam in this story, the added mystery and the humor, this book was a real treat. I definitely look forward to the next Destination Verse book from this author.

This story is quadruple POV, well written, and a steamy, hidden omega, forced proximity, accidental bonding, omegaverse romance between Holly, the female omega resident doctor lead who has been using suppressants all her life to ensure she can achieve career goals, Noah, one male alpha lead and an attending doctor at the clinic where she’s completing her residency rotation, Kai, the second male alpha lead who is independently wealthy and has opened his home to his (unconfirmed) pack, and Grayson, the third male alpha lead who is ex-military and bears the physical and mental scars of that. I enjoyed Holly’s intelligence and determination that had seen her progress thus far in her career. I enjoyed Noah’s precision focus and his orderly thinking. I enjoyed Grayson’s quiet care and protectiveness. I enjoyed Kai’s enthusiasm and energy, and his caretaking propensities. I enjoyed the building intimacy and the bond built between the males as well as the relationship between all four characters. I appreciated the acknowledgment that all people carry scars and trauma and need support of others to heal. I enjoyed the ending.

Spice: 5/5
Genre: Omegaverse, Small Town Romance
PoV: 4: Holly, Noah, Grayson, Kai
I received an advance review copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thoughts:
Nola Heart does it again with Heat Mountain, offering a steamy yet tender omegaverse romance that far exceeds first impressions. At first glance, you might expect your typical omegaverse romance but Heart goes beyond the surface, creating a narrative with emotional depth that will hit you at a much deeper level.
What really resonated most was Heart’s ability to seamlessly weave in meaningful and important real world themes into her narrative. She thoughtfully explores the challenges women face in our society like the pressures surrounding relationship expectations, mental loads, autonomy and the realities of navigating professional spaces, particularly within male-dominated workplaces. These themes are handled with care, allowing the story a depth you don’t always expect in a small town romance. The chemistry between the characters is fire despite it being an “accidental bonding.” There is a good balance between heat and heart.
Heat Mountain is more than your typical omegaverse romance so if you’re looking for something with emotional depth and female empowerment, you’ll enjoy this book.

I just finished Heat Mountain by Nola Heart and I really liked the story. It’s a cosy, low-drama read with no toxic relationships and very small stakes, which made it feel incredibly comforting.

The story follows Holly Chang, a doctor from New York who has to work two weeks in Heat Mountain to earn her special medical licence. Holly is an omega in hiding, as there is still discrimination against omegas working in the medical field. Adding to her problems, she has an unlucky and clumsy streak and ends up losing her heat medication.

During her stay, she meets three alphas: Noah, a fellow doctor; Kai, the rich boy; and Grayson, the scarred protector. Through these connections, Holly slowly finds herself and a place where she truly belongs.

The storyline is simple and not something entirely new, but that’s exactly what makes it work so well. This book is the perfect palate cleanser after reading heavier, more intense stories. Warm, cosy, and easy to enjoy! I definitely recommend it.

I really enjoyed this omegaverse.
These characters were complex and they each had so many layers to them... not only did it keep my guessing but it also kept me fully engaged in the story.
The FMC, I immediately adored her. She's a baddie and is trying to prove herself in world where her designation is used against her. Despite that major set back she still kicks butt and does so gracefully.
The MMCS, are all so different. Their lives have taken them in so many different directions, yet they all end up calling home the same place. Whether or not they realize it they've formed a pack...and a have become their own little found family.
Insert this FMC...who is strong willed and determined...and an unexpected heat.
Their chemistry is undeniable and when they finally give into each other it's GLORIOUS!
They fight hard and love even harder!
These alphas find their missing piece and also manage to protect their little cherish mountain community.
This book really had a great mix of sweetness, suspense, and SPICE!

She wants to be a wilderness rescue doctor.

This is a sweet omegaverse story with an omega in hiding, a guilt-ridden doctor Noah, a rich snowboarder Kai who has his own issues and a scarred veteran, Ghost. These three guys have been together since childhood now living together in Kai mansion. Holly is an omega in hiding, so she can finish her internship in wilderness rescue medicine. She travels to the town of Heat Mountain to work with a doctor. It’s a small tourist town that has some secrets like the hot springs and springs that have a surprise. While unpacking her things, she spills her heat suppressants in the sink and can only save five. How is she going to get more and maintain her secret? The pharmacy doesn’t stock them regularly. Most of the single omegas display their omega designation. Will Holly be able to complete the internship working with Noah and Dr. Mercer? Will Ryder, the real estate bad guy, snap up the whole town after his devious measures?

Holly’s character growth was so touching. She has been suppressing her omega since before she truly perfumed. Living 100% as a beta her entire life. But when her suppressants are lost and she can’t hide who she is from the three alphas slowly circling her she is forced to accept who she is as an omega. And once she opens that door for her inner omega, she embraces who she is and stops hiding. It was so powerful. I loved how strong this woman was! The dynamics between Kai, Noah, and Grayson were great. They balanced each other out so well. Kai is this goofy, charming, energetic, and kind man. While Noah is a serious doctor whose middle name is tense. Grayson is the silent one. The protector. The one who sees everything. They made the perfect pack for Holly. I absolutely love their story!.

Overall I did enjoy this story. Holly is a medical student/resident that is just completing her final stages before becoming a full-fledged doctor....but she is also an Omega hiding as a Beta. In the medical field Omega's are still seen as too soft but Holly defies the odds! I loved how Noah, Kai and Grayson all provided different types of support to her. Grayson is unapologetic in his protection and service to Holly while Noah tries (and fails) to withstand the pull. Holly's acceptance of each of them as they are is touching and shows the depth of her feelings for each of them. There were some spicy scenes and everything was always centered around Holly. A nice story with an interesting plot surrounding Holly's medical ethics, attention to detail and willingness to sacrifice herself for her cause.

I thought this book had an interesting premise and I really enjoyed the first book in the series, so I was hoping this one would be just as good. Due to pressure from her mother, Holly has been using various herbs and suppressants to hide her omega nature and has been going to school to become a doctor. When her field training takes her to Heat Mountain, Holly find herself in the care of 3 alphas who help her become the omega and doctor she was meant to be.

The story itself was very engaging but there were a quite a few inconsistences that just kept taking me out of the story. The timeline of events didn't flow smoothly for me and I kept having to go back and re-read passages to make sure I hadn't missed something.

I didn't want to put this book down for a second once I started reading this! It had the perfect small town, fast paced accidental bonding and caring alphas wrapped into an ideal festive book! I enjoyed Kai's, Grayson's and Noah's personalities as they were distinctive from each other yet complimented well together with Holly and each had a well fleshed out past. Even through Holly's heat, they never took advantage of her and patiently took their time to give her space. Grayson's protective following tendencies did amuse me when he kept surprising Holly by being silent. The plot kept me engaged, loved the relationship development which is a big thing I look out for and can easily recommend this standalone!

Love! Love! Lovvvvvve this book!

I'm not usually a fan of omegaverse books because I feel like they all have the same storyline and plot etc. BUT Heat Mountain was original and a definite page turner.

Holly is a doctor finishing her residency that has to hide her omega designation due to prejudice. Grayson is a scarred, "ghost" of a man who is over protective from day 1. Noah is the hard hearted doctor who tries to hide behind professionalism and Kai is the fun loving one that hides pain behind a smile and who thinks hes not good enough.

A little suspense, a little angsty and all the HEAT you could want.

A definite must read 5/5!

Absolutely Loved this book!

As my headline said, I absolutely loved this book! Holly and Noah may have started off rocky but the chemistry was there! I loved that Grayson was her silent protector always looking out for her. And our last Alpha was one of my favorites. I loved how they all came together (even if it took Noah a bit to realize everything). I also really enjoyed Holly finally embracing her designation. I definitely fell in love with this book and I can’t wait for more to come!

Only thing I wish was holly coming out to her friends, that was always in the back of my mind. I’m curious how they would have taken the new etc. Overall I definitely enjoyed this!

I'm so happy I got a chance to read this as an ARC. I read Heat Island a while back and absolutely loved it. There's always something about a good Omegaverse book and this series is a great one! These bring all the heat and you have the added part of trying to suppress her heat to pass as a beta. Holly has her medicine fellowship which she's so excited about but of course things can't go smoothly when she's unpacking. Now she's down a bunch of heat suppressants that she needs to keep being a "beta" to do her fellowship. And then she accidentally ends up bonded to Grayson, Noah, & Kai. They're perfect for her and the chemistry between them is perfect.

A mountain worth climbing.
Enjoyable ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ type of story with characters that just seem to work – with the right omega to bind them all together. A town full of support that is fairly close to my ideal as you could get. Low angst despite the parental issues. Pleasant reading style that makes this into a page-turning and entertaining read. I’ve read a few of Nola’s books now & will be looking for more in the future too. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Heat Mountain started out very similar to other omegaverse books where the Omega was hiding her designation but it turned into something so much more. Holly is an Omega who is pushing past her designation expectations in anyway necessary. Omega's are typically soft, sheltered and waited on but Holly is the complete opposite. She hides her designation so that she can be in the line of action and take charge of her life. She is lucky to find a pack who fully supports her in this endeavor. It was a refreshing take to see Holly, an Omega, doing a traditional Alpha career and succeeding at it.

I enjoyed Hollys story, overall it’s a nice easy read. Kai is the sweet, unsure one, Noah is reluctant at first and then we have Grayson the quiet stalker who falls fast. I would have liked a bit more backstory on the characters to help understand them better but it didn’t detract from the story. If you’re looking for a quick easy read then this is good but if you’re looking for an in depth story to sink your teeth into then this probably isn’t what you’re looking for.

Holly has been living as a beta her whole life - mainly because she feels the need to in order to become a doctor (still lots of prejudice out there). When she starts a rotation in the mountains (she's SO excited to get some wilderness action!!!) she meets the grumpy doctor Noah, former military man-turned-stalker Greyson and ray of sunshine Kai.

A lot of this was predictable but I absolutely loved the characters.

There were a couple of inconsistencies (minor) but nothing that took away from the book.

Now I truly love omegaverse and I am obsessed with it. The story here is omegaverse but also brings in the real world with prejudice of an omega not being able to function in the world and not being able to be a doctor. The suppressants fail and now Holly is what she doesn't want. An omega now bonded to a pack. One that has her boss in it. The alphas are all really great and I can't get enough really. Highly recommend this one.

Although this is Book 2 of the DestinationVerse series it can be read as a standalone.

The characters were well written and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was well written and developed. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.
