Lady Ashcombe Murder Mysteries #3

A Christmas Murder In Paris: A 1920’s Historical Cosy Mystery

Welcome to Paris, where the cats have more titles than the aristocrats and a jewel heist is the most exciting event on the Christmas calendar.

Lady Cecily Ashcombe, a practical vicar’s daughter still getting used to her title, wanted a simple yuletide holiday. Instead, she’s chauffeuring a pampered Persian to a glamorous cat show where the rivalries are as sharp as the pedigrees are long. The star attraction? A Russian Blue dripping with diamonds and the legendary "Crown Jewels" collar.

But when a cat is snatched and the glittering competition becomes the perfect cover for a brilliant heist, Cecily is on the case. Aided by her chaos-loving terrier, Pip, she must outwit a network of sophisticated criminals hiding amongst the Parisian elite.
In a city of glamour and deception, can a woman who prefers practicality to prestige unmask a thief before they make the purr-fect getaway?

Fans of witty heroines, Christmas pomp, charming 1920s historical settings, and mysteries with a delightful dose of humour will adore the third book in the Lady Ashcombe Murder Mysteries series.

Very enjoyable fun! Made me giggle quite a bit, especially the descriptions of Pip's antics and attitudes, as well as those of Canon Bott.

I'm happy that I can safely recommend this to anyone who I think might enjoy it as it's a "PureRead".

I only have one very slight niggle, which is that sometimes the descriptions are a little repetitive, but it only distracted me for a moment from the narrative.

I'm looking forward to reading more of this series and, indeed, more PureReads.

🎄😽A Christmas Murder in Paris Book Review😽🎄

Synopsis:

A Christmas Murder in Paris is a festive historical cozy mystery set in 1920s Paris, where holiday cheer is disrupted by a shocking murder. Set against the backdrop of a glamorous Parisian cat show—the season’s main attraction—secrets unravel as clues, suspects, and red herrings lead to a clever and engaging whodunit in the City of Light.

My Review:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5 stars)

What a charming cozy mystery! I absolutely enjoyed this delightful little book. At just over 200 pages, it was the perfect length—exactly the kind of engaging, comforting read I was in the mood for. The writing had a lovely, almost poetic quality, the characters were fun and endearing, and I found myself laughing out loud more than once.

The cats were a true highlight and such a joyful centerpiece of the story—especially during the Paris cat show—adding both charm and personality to the mystery. And of course, Pip stole my heart. Sweet, slightly ornery terrier Pip brought so much humor and warmth to the pages. The Paris setting was beautifully captured, making the city feel festive, cozy, and alive, while the mystery itself was intriguing and thoughtfully paced, keeping me happily guessing until the end.

And Canon Bott… oh dear—bless him. 😅 His presence added just the right touch of exasperation and humor, making certain scenes all the more entertaining and memorable.

It’s also worth noting that while the title includes the word murder, there is no actual murder of a person or animal in this story. Instead, the “murder” refers to the downfall of someone’s social standing, keeping the mystery light, clever, and truly cozy. I also appreciated the gentle Christian elements woven throughout the story, which added depth without feeling heavy-handed. This is a perfectly clean read and a true cozy mystery, making it suitable for all readers.

The ending was especially lovely—heartfelt, warm, and a beautiful way to close out such a sweet story. My only true complaint was some minor editing issues, which slightly pulled me out of the story at times and ultimately led me to take off a half star in my rating. Even so, this was a light, uplifting, and thoroughly enjoyable cozy mystery, and I very much look forward to reading more in this series. 🐾✨

Just the Right Amount of Humor

I really enjoyed this book. More lighthearted than the others. Muchly appreciated. Poor Canon Bott reminds me of Mr. Bean! Enjoyed the Parisian location and the (silly) cat show. Stolen jewels, very catty aristocrats, and a vicar who talks too much, also like a bull in a China shop. All comes together to make a fun, enjoyable read.

Plot is Magnificent,

Needs better editing of spelling and correct words. Canon is too clumsy, awkward and ANNOYING. A little less ridiculous a figure might be considered. HOWEVER, the other characters and plot so interesting, I will be reading the NEXT BOOK . . .
