In Bhutan, silence is not the absence of sound but a living presence. It lingers in the valleys, rushes with the rivers, and trembles on the mountainside beneath fluttering prayer flags. It comforts, unsettles, and, at times, it roars. When Silence Roared is a lyrical collection of poems born from solitude and reflection during a journey through the Himalayas. Each poem is brief - a single page, a single breath - yet layered with emotion deep enough to stay with you long after the book is closed. Through verses shaped by mist-soaked mornings, monastery bells, and the ache of memory, Rheaa Noor captures what it means to break, to ache, and to begin again. These poems do not promise resolution. Instead, they hold space for grief, longing, resilience, and the quiet strength we find when the noise of life falls away. Accessible and intimate, this book is for anyone who has searched for stillness in the middle of chaos or carried emotions too heavy for prose alone. When Silence Roared is more than a collection of poems - it is an invitation to sit with your own silences, and to discover that even quiet has a voice.
Wrapped in the veneer of Bhutan, Rheaa Noor has hidden the ups and downs of her journey. The beauty of Bhutan is apt to juxtapose pain and longing, grief and struggle. This combination of stark beauty and sharp pain is not only a fertile ground for beauty, it also makes you appreciate the writer's honesty. Have a look: "At Kuensel Phodrang the Buddha sat tall, bronze and unbroken, unshaken by all. His silence poured over valley and sky, a gaze so steady it swallowed my cry. I stood with my heart still heavy with years, a body rehearsed in battles and tears. Yet in his stillness I saw something new- how small my sorrows appeared from this view."
Noor shares unabashedly about her courtroom battles, wondering how the endless sky of Bhutan is in contrast to those shrinking rooms that had caused her unimaginable grief. Have a look: "For eleven years I had fought in rooms, where voices echoed like courthouse tombs. I was a mother, yet stripped of the name, a woman marked different, too odd to claim. I longed for love but was told I was wrong, too jagged for soft, too sharp for song. And now this height, this merciless sky, asked me to breathe, to live, to try. Yet my lungs still carried the weight of then, the discipline of breaking again and again."
The poet has looked deeply into her own life experiences and honed these nuggets of words for the readers. Drawing upon poet's experiences related to nostalgia, love, family, nature, and personal reflection, these poems are compartmentalised thus: "The Buddha did not bless, did not forgive, he only reminded me how to live: to loosen the grip on the weight I defend, to see that the world is not pain without end. So I left with a silence carved into my chest, not healed, not whole, but quietly blessed. For life is still brutal, unruly, unfair- but it is also this moment, this mountain, this air."
Noor finds relatability in oddity. She finds the slights and insults she has been through and yet she finds the ointment to her ache too. She takes refuge in a country whose happiness has been talked about so much: "They led me to Bhutan's fabled beast, a myth made flesh, a broken feast- half goat, half cow, a body sewn, a shape the world could not condone. Children laughed at its crooked stance, tourists mocked with a fleeting glance. But I stood still, my breath held tight, because in its strangeness, I saw my life."
This is a collection of poems that talks about the indelible impressions love and loss leave upon not only our skin but upon our very soul. These words are about shadows and stains, love and loss, memories and pain, hope and resilience, wounds and flaws. These poems are as much about falling down as they are about keeping one's chin up and getting back up. Because to be human is to move on and keep moving on. One foot after another. Have a look: "I am not okay-though I try to hide, folding the truth in my palm inside. I smile with one hand; the other bleeds, a secret buried in daily needs. I am not okay--the floorboards know, the mirror whispers the cracks I show. Even the toothbrush, bristles worn, hears the song of a soul forlorn."
Through all this personal pain, Bhutan stands guard like a resolute companion, never wavering, always present to provide a beautiful but steady background to the poet's pain. Have a look: "Pilgrims passed with their chants so clear, beads in their hands, no trace of fear. Their rhythm steady, their voices strong, while mine was a gasp, a stagger along. The bells from the monastery faintly rang, their echoes soft as the prayer flags sang. But halfway upward my legs gave way, I sank in the dust, the sky turned gray. The cliffs above like a painting bright, Tiger's Nest gleamed in the morning light. So close, so distant, a holy flame, a vision too vast for my breath to claim."
Read this to find out how grief can find refuge in beauty.
" When Silence Roared " is one of those books that asks you to slow down and simply sit with it. I couldn’t read it in one go. and I didn’t want to. Each poem made me pause, take a breath, and stay still for a moment before turning the page. There’s something deeply comforting about the way this collection treats silence, not as emptiness, but as something alive, gentle, and understanding.
Rheaa Noor’s poetry feels honest and unguarded, as if she’s sharing quiet pieces of her inner world with you. The poems carry themes of solitude, grief, longing, and resilience, but they never feel heavy or overwhelming. Instead, they feel like someone sitting beside you, not trying to fix anything, just letting you feel whatever you need to feel. The landscapes of Bhutan flow naturally through the verses, blending place and emotion in a way that feels intimate and grounding.
What I loved most is the simplicity of the language. Nothing feels forced or dramatic. The words are soft, clear, and deeply felt, making the emotions linger long after you’ve finished reading. Some poems feel like whispers, others like silent conversations with yourself but all of them stay with you.
This book doesn’t promise healing or answers. It offers presence. And sometimes, that quiet companionship is exactly what we need.
⚫️When Silence Roared takes you on a stunning, meditative journey into the essence of quite a beautiful reminder that silence is anything but empty; it’s vibrantly alive. Rheaa Noor’s poetry, inspired by her experiences in the tranquil landscapes of Bhutan, feels like a deep breath in a world that seldom slows down. Each poem is short yet impactful, encapsulating vast emotional landscapes in just a few lines, reminiscent of the stillness found in the Himalayas that inspired them.
⚫️What truly stands out in this collection is Noor’s ability to articulate the essence of solitude. Her verses resonate with images of misty valleys, fluttering prayer flags, and the gentle ache of memories. These poems don’t rush to provide answers; instead, they invite readers into a sacred space where they can sit with their own grief, longing, growth, and resilience. This is poetry that doesn’t aim to fix you; it seeks to walk alongside you.
⚫️Noor’s writing is lyrical, intimate, and effortlessly evocative. Each page feels like a moment of reflection cradled gently in your hands. The emotional depth she conveys with such simplicity is a rare gift, making each poem linger long after you’ve read it. This collection transforms into more than just a book; it becomes a companion one that encourages you to breathe, to feel, and to listen to the subtle roars within your own silence.
⚫️For anyone seeking calm amidst chaos, or for hearts that carry emotions too complex for ordinary words, When Silence Roared is a soothing, radiant treasure. Rheaa Noor has crafted a poetic sanctuary one that whispers, heals, and ultimately reminds us that even silence has its own powerful, unforgettable voice.
Some books don’t ask to be read, they ask to be felt. When Silence Roared is one such book.
I didn’t read this collection in one go. I couldn’t. Each poem made me stop, breathe, and sit quietly for a moment before moving on. The poems are short, just a page each, but they carry so much weight that rushing through them would feel wrong.
This book feels deeply personal, almost like reading someone’s private journal written during a time when words were the only place to rest. Rheaa Noor writes from a place of solitude, pain, reflection, and survival, and you can feel that honesty in every poem. Nothing here feels forced or dramatic. The emotions are raw, restrained, and real.
What stood out to me most is how silence becomes a presence throughout the book. Not an empty silence, but one that listens, holds, and sometimes hurts. As the poems move through Bhutan, its valleys, monasteries, mountain passes, the landscapes don’t just exist in the background. They quietly mirror the poet’s inner world. I could see these places while reading, but more than that, I could feel what it’s like to stand there when your heart is heavy and your thoughts are loud.
The themes of grief, loneliness, longing, and resilience run through the collection, but the book never claims complete healing. And I appreciated that. It doesn’t offer false comfort or neat conclusions. Instead, it allows emotions to exist as they are, unfinished, complicated, unresolved. That honesty made the book feel even more comforting.
Some poems felt like whispers, others like confessions. Lines stayed with me long after I turned the page. There were moments where I felt understood without the book ever trying to explain me to myself. That’s rare.
I also loved how simple the language is. You don’t need to decode anything or overthink meanings. The words are clear, accessible, and direct, which makes the emotions hit even harder. This is a book that both new poetry readers and long-time poetry lovers can connect with.
It is not loud, not dramatic, not flashy. It is quiet, steady, and deeply sincere. It’s the kind of book you reach for when the world feels too noisy and you need permission to sit with your thoughts.
This isn’t just a poetry collection, it’s a companion for anyone who has ever felt alone, broken, or unsure of how to move forward. And sometimes, that’s more than enough.
Silence doesn’t always mean emptiness. Sometimes, it’s where the deepest emotions finally find space to breathe, and this book captures that beautifully.
Some books do not tell a story. They allow you to feel one. When Silence Roared – Poems from Bhutan by Rheaa Noor is one such collection that speaks softly yet leaves a lasting echo. Written during her time in Bhutan, this book is a deeply personal journey captured through poetry. The verses explore the inner lives of women, especially married life, divorce, and the emotional struggles that follow separation. Rather than focusing only on events, the poems dwell on what happens inside a woman when the world expects her to move on quietly. Bhutan becomes more than a backdrop in this book. Windows carrying prayers, rivers that never stop flowing, and mountains that remain steady become witnesses to her transformation. Each place she encounters mirrors her inner state. While everything within her shifts, the land around her stays calm, teaching her that stillness can coexist with pain. She did not arrive in Bhutan searching for healing. She arrived to listen. In that listening, the noise slowly softened. Grief found its shape. Silence began to speak. The poems reflect how heartbreak and loss can find language when one allows space for them to breathe. What makes this collection powerful is its honesty. Through every poem, the author reveals her becoming. A woman choosing truth over comfort. A woman growing fearless by acknowledging her wounds rather than hiding them. Each location she visits becomes a lesson, showing her who she is and who she is turning into. The central message of the book stays with you long after the last page. Stillness is not the absence of life. It is proof of it. Sometimes the loudest roar does not come from the outside world but from within the quietest corners of the soul. This book is for readers who appreciate introspective poetry, emotional honesty, and stories of inner transformation. If you enjoy poetry that lingers and speaks to lived experiences, this collection deserves a place on your shelf. ✨ Highly recommended for lovers of reflective and soul-touching poetry.
📑When Silence Roared: Poems to Pause within a Noisy World by Rheaa Noor
“When Silence Roared” is a delicate yet resonant poetry collection shaped by solitude, travel, and emotional reckoning in the heart of Bhutan. From the very first poem, it becomes clear that silence here is not emptiness, it is presence. It breathes through valleys, echoes in monasteries, and settles quietly inside the reader.
Structured as a series of brief, single-page poems, the collection mirrors moments of stillness—short, unassuming, but deeply affecting. Each poem feels like a pause button pressed gently on a loud world. Noor’s writing does not rush toward conclusions or healing; instead, it sits patiently with ache, memory, and becoming. One aspect, I admire the restraint here, because restraint is difficult, and Noor handles it with maturity and confidence.
The poems move fluidly between place and emotion: sacred landscapes blend with personal grief, travel becomes introspection, and silence transforms into a mirror. There are poems that speak of distance, of unspoken words, of emotional fatigue, and of the quiet courage it takes to simply remain present. Titles referencing Bhutanese landmarks are not mere travel notes; they become emotional coordinates; each place holding a different shade of longing or acceptance.
What truly elevates this collection is its accessibility. The language is simple, almost conversational, yet never shallow. Noor understands that poetry does not need ornamentation to be powerful; it needs honesty. And this book is honest in a way that feels tender rather than performative.
“When Silence Roared” will resonate deeply with readers who: • find comfort in quiet moments • carry emotions they struggle to name • believe poetry can heal without preaching • crave softness in a harsh, hurried world
"When Silence Roared" by Rheaa Noor is not just a collection of poetry, but a story of the journey of a woman who describes herself as— “…a woman who doesn't quite belong. A mother, and yet not mother enough.”
The book starts with the poem “After Eleven Years,” from which we learn about the protagonist’s fight for her child, how she goes through hunger, works for every penny, and fights even when there is no one to support her. In the end, she loses everything, and finally walks away to find herself.
Throughout the book, the woman visits different places in Bhutan and learns stories about the country, the places, the people, and the culture. With each place and learning, she finds a connection to herself. She starts to find the meaning of her life and begins to see her silence as a strong suit. “I wanted to battle, to strike, to defy, but silence said softly: just let it lie. Not every wound is war to win, not every scar can be sealed within.”
The poems are short and simple, but filled with emotions and heartbreaks that will make you tear up in many places. I love how the author uses elements of nature to express loneliness, grief, pain, healing, and inner peace. Many poems are very relatable, especially the ones where the author shows how silence can be stifling, and also how peaceful, silent meadows can heal your heart—especially if you love mountains and valleys.
The book is a quick, short read with only 58 pages, and is a perfect choice if you love poetry, especially poems that are reflective, heart-touching, thoughtful, and give you a sense of warmth.
When Silence Roared written by Rheaa Noor. A small book of 22 poems that feels like a quiet walk through the Himalayas. Each poem is just one page, one breath, but it carries a lot of feeling. The poems talk about silence that you can hear the kind that lives in valleys, follows rivers, and hangs on mountain tops. They show how silence can comfort, upset, and even “roar” inside us.
Enough / Alone poem describes A raw, honest confession that turns loneliness into quiet strength. The poet walks through pain, drinks silence, and finds a self made song, showing that “enough” can be a steady anchor when the world won’t hold you whereas Thunder poem describes about A storm filled metaphor for intense loneliness and inner turmoil. Lightning and thunder are painful memories that shatter silence, forcing the speaker to feel alive; by staying in the downpour, the storm eventually softens, hinting that confronting pain can lead to healing and a calmer dawn.
The verses are short, but they stay with you. They speak of misty mornings, monastery bells, broken hearts, and the strength we find when the world gets too loud. The poems don’t give easy answers; they just give space for grief, longing, and hope.
If you ever feel overwhelmed by noise, or if you like to carry emotions that words alone can’t say, this book is a good companion. It invites you to sit with your own quiet moments and hear what they have to say.
In “When Silence Roared”, Rheaa Noor once again proves that the quietest words often echo the loudest. This 60-page collection is a meditation on stillness, solitude, and the delicate art of listening — not just to the world, but to oneself. Inspired by Noor’s journey through the Himalayas, the poems breathe with the rhythm of Bhutan’s valleys and the hum of its rivers, carrying the reader into a space where silence is not emptiness, but a living, resonant presence.
Each poem in the collection is brief — often a single page, sometimes a single moment — yet every line feels distilled and deliberate. Noor’s language is minimal but deeply evocative, like the sound of a monastery bell carried by mountain wind. She writes of grief, longing, memory, and resilience with a rare grace, never forcing emotion but allowing it to bloom quietly in the reader’s heart.
There’s an unmistakable spiritual undercurrent to her work. The poems feel like offerings — small, sacred pauses in a world that refuses to slow down. Through mist, prayer flags, and the ache of distance, Noor captures what it means to break and to begin again, to find peace not in resolution but in acceptance. Her words do not seek to fill the silence; they honor it.
“When Silence Roared” is not just a poetry book — it is an experience, an invitation to pause and breathe. Noor’s verses speak directly to anyone who has ever sought calm in chaos or carried emotions too vast for prose to hold.
When a book finds you exactly where it hurts…and heals you anyway🫶
🏔️ INSIGHT: When Silence Roared is a breathtaking collection of 22 poems by Rhea Noor that carries you through the quiet, expansive landscapes of Bhutan. Inspired by the author’s journey across the Himalayas, these poems explore solitude, strength in adversity, resilience, sitting with grief, and holding space for oneself. It’s a storytelling journey about finding calm in chaos and meaning in stillness.
🏔️ REVIEW: There’s a certain solace in silence that slowly untangles every knot of grief you’ve tucked away. That’s exactly what this book makes you feel. The streets, mountains, monasteries, even the food of Bhutan come alive through verses rich with vivid imagery and tender detail. And the way these details blend with the author’s own struggles — her search for hope, her quiet reckoning with grief — is honestly beautiful. There’s a soft continuity in these poems, a story that forms almost unknowingly as you read. You can feel her hurt, her strength, her stillness. This is the kind of book you reach for when you want poetry that comforts you and silence that speaks back.
🏔️ STRENGTHS: 1. Emotionally immersive. 2. Impeccable usage of Metaphors & Imagery. 3. Consistent rhythm and flow. 4. Themes of healing & solitude. 5. Honest, vulnerable writing that allows readers to sit with their own grief
When Silence Roared is a gently powerful poetry collection that thrives on restraint, atmosphere, and emotional resonance.
Noor’s work fits comfortably within the contemporary tradition of reflective travel writing and meditative lyric poetry, yet it also carves out a distinctly Bhutanese sensibility—one shaped by landscapes where silence is not passive but animated, almost sentient.
Written in single-breath poems, each page is deceptively slight. But this brevity is intentional: Noor uses minimalism to mirror the quietude she’s attempting to capture.
The poems rarely offer narrative closure, and that refusal is one of the book’s strengths. Resolution would feel dishonest in a collection that seeks to honor the jagged edges of grief, the ache of memory, and the slow, unglamorous work of healing.
Mist-soaked mornings, distant monastery bells, rivers that feel like companions—these motifs aren’t romanticized; they are grounding forces. They give the reader just enough tactile reality to enter the poet’s solitude without ever overwhelming the delicate emotional architecture of each poem.
When Silence Roared is less a book you read and more one you sit with. It asks for patience, rewards attentiveness, and invites you to confront your own unspoken places.
Noor reminds us that quiet is not the absence of emotion—but the container that holds it all.
A thoughtful, intimate, and beautifully restrained collection.
When Silence Roared is a quietly strong collection that shows us silence is presence, not emptiness. Firmly rooted in Rheaa Noor’s journey into Bhutan’s Himalayan landscape, these are tiny poems that feel like small pauses that are sacred. They are brief, mostly just a page long, yet layered with grief, memory, resilience and grace. Through Noor’s sparse language, the emotion in her work can surface without roiling the surface. And I think you can see why Noor’s still waters ran deep. The poems are not designed to find closure; rather, they create room for loss, longing, courtroom trials, displacement and the often-slow process of healing. Nature, monastery, prayer flags and mountain are not the background but accompany the pain which means beauty can be at the same time ugly. Noor’s candidness is disarming; her vulnerability is consistently so, not theatrically so. The collection is inevitably relatable for anyone burdened by heavy feelings the ordinary could not voice. Do not speed read this book. Take your time, returning frequently and letting the emotions wash over you in silence. When Silence Roared is not so much a poetry collection as an invitation to stop, to breathe and to discover that silence too can speak. A poetry collection that calms the soul and relates loss to beauty and stillness. Silence Roared, said quietly, speaks of strength and the unconquerable spirit.
The more time passes the more I realise that we really don't choose our reads - our reads choose us; at the perfect moment in our lives, even if we don't realise it.
It is almost the end of 2025 and I have been craving some solitude and introspective moments, to forgive myself for my sins, to learn from my mistakes and to do better for myself and my loved ones from now on. And this book gave me the exact reinforcements.
It is a collection of some amazing poetry having the soul of a survivor and a human learning from her mistakes, accepting the hard truth instead of living in sweet denial and letting go of all that was holding her back from reaching her soul's true potential. All along, the common link or tether to these poems are Bhutan and its mountains. Sometimes, we start relying on some transient parts of our lives, believing them to be our lighthouse, but in truth no living being can be so - it is only us ourselves and our thoughts that will be remain constant for us. And believe me, there is a huge relief in this realisation. Reading the exact same thoughts from the lines of these poetry, gave me such immense peace.
It took me a mere hour to read this book. But the effect? It will last a lifetime for me. On my way to read the other poetry book by the same poet.
In this book Rheaa Noor masterfully weaves a poignant tapestry of words that transport you to the majestic Himalayas, where silence is not just the absence of sound, but a living, breathing entity that pulsates with life. This lyrical collection of poems is a gentle yet powerful exploration of the human experience, delving deep into the complexities of grief, longing, and resilience.
Each poem is a delicate, snowflake-like moment, fragile yet resilient, capturing the essence of a world both beautiful and brutal. Noor's words are like the monastery bells that echo through the valleys, resonating deep within your soul, leaving an indelible mark on your heart.
This is not a collection of poems that offers easy answers or tidy resolutions. Instead, it's an invitation to sit with your own silences, to confront the noise within, and to discover that even in the stillness, there is a voice that roars. A voice that whispers, 'You are not alone. You are not forgotten.'
With its accessible, intimate tone, 'When Silence Roared' is a book for anyone who has ever felt lost, broken, or overwhelmed. It's a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is beauty, there is strength, and there is hope. A truly breathtaking book that will leave you breathless and yearning for more."
Just finished reading this and i must say the title is beautifully chosen . From the poems ,we see a women - her life, her hardships, that made her aware of the world and the vast universe within herself. Each poem is plain, yet collectively they narrate a tale of development, and the birth of one’s self.
The main reason why the book is different is that the travel is the part of her metamorphosis. With the passing of time in diverse countries, customs, and nature, she not only goes on an outward journey but also an inward one. Through her poems , I get to experience her emotions , grief , silence , longing and the strength to experience new things .
One line that really hit me was -" I broke in the night , yet I faced the day " . I paused there and let myself feel those nights again , where I thought that I wouldn't be able to handle it but I did anyhow . And I'm sure all of us have done this , faced the storm in the night and spend the day like nothing happened .
This book is for anyone who believes that pain teaches us, and that even the shortest words can carry deep meaning. It is honest, inspiring, and quietly unforgettable.
"I walked through the valleys, I sat with the storms, I carried my body through aching forms. I climbed till my knees refused to stay, I broke in the night, yet I faced the day." That's the beauty of the poems of this particular book!
'When Silence Roared: Poems from Bhutan' by Rheaa Noor is one of such books which helps you pause and soak the present. It's a collection of twenty two poems that makes the readers understand the value of reflection. The poems transported me to the calm Himalayan mountains.
I loved this poetic version of Bhutan that the poetess portrayed. The poems are about grief, loneliness, struggle and pain. Each poem contains an emotional touch which makes this book a perfect read if you are hurting from inside.
Of all the poems, a few stood out for me- • In the Loneliness • Muted • A prayer for the One Who Broke me
Each poem translates the beauty of Bhutan in such a way that I couldn't stop reading until I finished the book. If you're looking for a calming yet emotional read, read this collection of poems.
When Silence Roared is that rare book of poetry that feels like a quiet conversation with yourself. Rheaa Noor draws from her journey in the Himalayas especially in Bhutan and turns those misty mornings, monastery bells, and deep silences into verses that linger in your mind long after you’ve put the book down. It’s a short collection, but every poem feels like a breath you take in a still room where your thoughts finally have space to stretch.
What’s beautiful about this book is how it doesn’t try to roar with grand declarations. Instead, it listens. It holds space for longing, grief, resilience, love, and the tiny moments of clarity we find when the world feels too loud. Many readers describe it as emotionally immersive and deeply reflective - the kind of collection that makes you pause in the middle of your day and just feel
At times I wished a few poems were a little longer or more connected, but that simplicity also gives the book its power. It’s gentle, intimate, and meditative - a perfect companion for anyone seeking stillness in the chaos.
A quiet yet powerful poetry collection that explores grief, healing, and inner strength. Inspired by Rheaa Noor’s journey through Bhutan, the poems show how silence can protect, comfort, and speak when words fail. The book beautifully contrasts vast skies, mountains, and stillness with deeply personal pain, loss and long legal battles. Each poem is short but meaningful, carrying heavy emotions in simple lines. Noor writes about solitude, motherhood, identity, and survival with honesty and grace. Her words do not rush to give answers; instead, they invite readers to sit with their feelings and breathe through them. The calm landscapes of Bhutan act as a mirror, helping the poet see her struggles from a wider, gentler view. This book feels like a companion rather than a guide. It is soothing, reflective, and deeply human. When Silence Roared reminds us that even in quiet moments, our strength can speak the loudest.

An insightful and hard hitting collection of poems that deals with various topics related to healing, accepting the silence , becoming stronger in the face of loneliness and finding peace in the chaos. . The book starts with a heartbreaking event, and it gradually progresses as the person starts to deal with the new change in life, societal views of them, their own self worth. That silence doesn't have to be oppressive and bad, that peace can be found in silence, that it's okay to feel unmoored when things don't go your way, and to top it all, it's okay to not heal within a particular time frame. All the travel our main character does really makes a difference with the kind of prose and the subject this book dealt with. I enjoyed the different cultures mentioned, the places of worships and the nature imagery as well !! This book felt like a self-healing journey and I really loved the message this book gave me. . My favourite lines from the book : • "For what I saw at last what silence meant : not punishment - but an endless present." • "For grandeur means nothing if you cannot be at peace with the silence inside of thee." • "For some doors close and must remain, to open them only repeats the pain. And some goodbyes are not meant to speak, they live as the tears that stain your cheek." . . Gifted copy from Bookreviewersclub !!
When Silence Roared felt less like reading a book and more like stepping into a quiet Himalayan morning. Each poem carries the stillness of Bhutan, where mountains, rivers, and prayer flags seem alive, listening alongside you. The poems are short, but they linger. Grief, longing, and memory appear gently, without forcing an ending. You can sit with them at your own pace, letting the quiet spaces between lines speak as loudly as the words themselves. This collection doesn’t offer neat answers. It holds space for breaking, for aching, and for becoming. Through her time in Bhutan, the author shows how silence when truly listened to can roar. Mountains teach steadiness, rivers teach flow, and prayer flags whisper hope. When Silence Roared is for anyone who needs calm, clarity, or comfort in quiet moments. It’s about heartbreak, healing, and discovering strength in stillness. Some books tell stories. This one lets you feel one.
I didn’t read When Silence Roared in one go. I read it slowly the way you listen to rain the way you sit with a feeling you don’t want to rush. This book met me in quiet moments On days when I didn’t have the right words for how I felt these poems seemed to understand anyway Rheaa Noor doesn’t explain emotions she lets them exist. Some poems felt like standing alone in the mountains others like sitting near a window watching life pass without needing to be part of the noise What stayed with me most was the silence Not the empty kind but the full kind the kind that holds memory faith, longing and calm together I felt grounded while reading this like something inside me slowed down No urgency No performance Just presence When Silence Roared reminded me that it’s okay to be quiet it’s okay to feel deeply without announcing it and sometimes silence really does say everything.
When Silence Roared is a heartfelt collection of poems. The theme is reflected in the cover. The atmosphere of mountains was palpable. It would have been much more enticing, though, if the brightness had been higher.
The poetry help readers appreciate the need of introspection. They take us to the serene Himalayan peaks. The poems discuss suffering, sadness, loneliness, and hardship. This book is ideal if you are experiencing internal pain because every poem has an emotional undertone.
The tranquility of Bhutan permeates every page. They are brief and simple to read. In calm times, the book is reassuring. The author illustrates how anguish and calm can coexist. The graceful resiliency and life, meditative quality of stillness is ideal for leisurely reading.
Although the author uses simple language, it is nevertheless vivid. This book cannot be appreciated will if read quickly. Take your time, and allow the feelings to pass through you silently.
“… inside the walls, my soul was bare, The silence was heavy, yet strangely fair.”
Rheaa Noor's poems, inspired by Bhutan and the Himalayas, show that silence is not empty, but rather full of life, emotion, and depth. Each poem is short, like a pause in thought, yet it's rich in feelings of sadness, longing, strength, and quiet recovery.
What really stood out to me is how this collection approaches pain with sensitivity and care. Rather than offering quick fixes or pretending everything is fine when it's not, the poems honestly portray the experience of hurting, remembering, and starting anew. They feel like intimate conversations with oneself, especially during life's most overwhelming moments.

This isn’t a book you rush through. You read a page, close it, and let the silence speak. For anyone who finds comfort in quiet moments, this book will feel like a gentle companion.
When Silence Roared felt less like reading a book and more like entering a quiet Himalayan morning. Each poem carried the stillness of Bhutan, where silence is alive, breathing through valleys, rivers, and prayer flags.
The brevity of the poems surprised me. Each page held just a moment, yet the emotions lingered far longer. Grief, longing, and memory surfaced gently, without force, allowing me to sit with them at my own pace.
What moved me most was how the collection does not seek closure. These poems acknowledge breaking, aching, and becoming, without offering neat answers. There is honesty in that restraint, and strength in the pauses between lines.
This collection reminded me that silence can roar when we finally listen. When Silence Roared is intimate, reflective, and deeply grounding, perfect for readers who find comfort and clarity in quiet words.
Author Rheaa Noor's "When Silence Roared" is a beautiful poetry collection born from the author's journey and reflections in Bhutan. The poems explore themes of love, loss, solitude, longing, and most importantly, the comfort found in silence and the strength it can offer.
The verses in the first poem portray the grief of a separated wife and a mother whose child has been taken away - a heart battling for eleven years.
From sharing her feelings and visiting places like Buddha Point, Takin Preserve, Dochula Pass, and Bumthang Valley, to getting a dorje tattoo and more, the collection follows her emotional journey.
In the poem titled “Buddha Point,” the author describes how her sorrows appeared small in front of the large bronze statue at Kuensel Phodrang, even though her heart remained heavy with the battle she had been fighting for years.
In the poem “The Call I Didn’t Make,” the author reminds us that some doors must remain closed because opening them again can tear open old wounds and pain.
Her words do not claim complete healing, but they encourage us to accept things as they are. These poems do not merely describe the beauty of the places she visited, they reveal something deeper. They show how a grieving heart can become unafraid of the quiet.
The poems are deep, comforting, and memorable. Reading this collection feels like having a companion who helps you listen to your own thoughts. It's for anyone who has carried the weight of their feelings and finds comfort in words.
