Der systematische Theologe Ulrich H. J. Körtner hat in den viereinhalb Jahrzehnten seines umfangreichen wissenschaftlichen und publizistischen Wirkens stets das »Wagnis einer Antwort, die kein Kommentar hervorbringt noch ausschöpft« (P. Ricœur), unternommen, was ihn zu einer wichtigen Stimme in evangelischer Theologie, Kirche und Gesellschaft im deutschsprachigen Raum und darüber hinaus gemacht hat. Schülerinnen und Schüler, Kolleginnen und Weggefährten, die einige der Impulse von Ulrich Körtner mit ihren eigenen Arbeitsfeldern verbinden, antworten in dieser Festschrift aus den Bereichen Hermeneutische Theologie, Systematische Theologie, Theologie und Kirche in europäischer Perspektive, Ethik, Medizinethik und Diakoniewissenschaft und setzen damit die »Vermessung der Felder« fort.

Within four and a half decades of extensive academic work and a wealth of publications, the systematic theologian Ulrich H. J. Körtner has always taken the »risk of an answer that no commentary produces or exhausts« (P. Ricœur), which has made him an important voice in Protestant theology, church, and society in the German-speaking world and beyond. Students, colleagues and companions who combine some of Ulrich Körtner's impulses with their own work respond in this Festschrift from the fields of Hermeneutic Theology, Systematic Theology, Theology and Church in a European perspective, Ethics, Medical Ethics and Diaconal Science and, thus, continue the process of »mapping the fields«.
