3.5 rounded up to 4 stars

This is part of a series. However, I have only read the first book and I do have the 4th one on my Kindle. I found I did not need the second book in order to appreciate this one.

This Elizabeth is impulsive - prone to making decisions without consulting anyone or then informing them of such. This trait leads to the climax near the end of the book. (Spoiler: As a dog psychologist she naively overlooks the fact that a dog can be used to infiltrate the elaborate security system Darcy has set up to protect himself and those around him.)

This book involves property which is to be inherited by Wickham and which others want to raze and then construct an elaborate building in its place. Darcy wants to protect the building not only because his Knightsbridge Templars are involved but in addition because of the historic value. The site is over a labyrinth of tunnels, etc. - a Swiss cheese maze which will not support any new and larger structure.

Darcy's and Elizabeth's romance makes some small progress but this book focuses more on the issue of the building project.

Darcy has declared himself, but Lizzy isn't sure she can believe in love or trust him when he is always leaving out on secret trips. But, he is determined and wants her to be part of his clandestine world if she will take a chance on him and his love.
Lizzy's impetuous, independent nature insists that she knows best and sets dangerous events in motion toward an exciting conclusion and maybe something special between her and Darcy if they can get through all safe and alive.

I said in book two that I wanted to bop Lizzy in the head for stubbornly holding to her pride and fear, well, let me add a swift kick in the britches for her ongoing wishy-washy behavior with Darcy and her selfish attitude about sharing her sister's love and time now that Bingley is around. But what really got me annoyed was her reaction when Darcy says there is danger and everyone must stay where its safe. She rushes away from safety, lies about things, and then rushes out again. I enjoy the overall story, but I can't like the TSTL behavior that also endangers others. These are meant to be light-hearted and not taken seriously, but I'll admit that Lizzy's behavior and then a few niggles about how info was leaked kept me from appreciating that as much as I'd like.

So, all in all, it was moderately enjoyable. I did like the caper aspect and the humor. Those who want something fun and light with adorable dog characters alongside the humans should give this series a look.

This is the 3rd book in Mr. Darcy's dogs series. It is cute; it is fast paced and it is full of action. My only hold back on loving this book is the way Lizzy is portrayed. She is a little too clutzy, a little too self assured (for the situations she is in) ,then a little too girly for the situation she is in. She obsesses about her size 8 (in the UK) curves then mysteriously fits into Georgiana's clothes. And she refuses to listen (repeatedly) when sane, sober, reliable people tell her it is too dangerous to do something and brings risk into Darcy's home.

I was able to snag a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for a review ... and as I started up, I felt a little lost, like I was missing something. I looked up the book here on GoodReads, and it is #3 in a series. While it seems to be indicated that these COULD be stand-alone books ... as mentioned, I felt like I was coming into a story part way. I stopped, and found the series is available in text format as part of KindleUnlimited. These are short, so I went and started with book 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. #2 was a Christmas installment, and I felt like I could skip it (and didn't feel like I missed anything super important - Darcy and Elizabeth had their first kiss in in apparently).

I'd read book #1 ... which does set some things up in my imagination. The narration here didn't quite match what I felt "sounded" like Elizabeth ... at least to start. I think she grew on me. While I'm a HUGE audiobook fan (I have more "ear" time than "eye" time) I found myself wanting to refer to the text (to highlight, make a note, or double check things ... like Elizabeth saying "I shall knock you up in the morning" which I guess IS an acceptable English phrase, although U.S. connotation has a different meaning. When the housekeeper announced she had a "spotted dick" ... had to double check that, and do a Google search *Ü*... Also to check the spelling of Pavlov's Dog (kinda funny, kinda over-the-top silly), a "borzoi" and I Googled that to make sure I was picturing the correct breed. ) So I was flipping between audio and text a bit, glad the text was available with my KindleUnlimited subscription.

Honestly, as this started up again (after reading book 1) I felt it was fine, but I wasn't too into it. Just a little silly, farcical. But then I found myself laughing and enjoying the banter and Elizabeth's inner thoughts. I mentioned in my review of the first book, that I was appreciating the figurative language (as another recent read just didn't have any, and it was SO plain) and LOL as Elizabeth herself appreciated "a good alliteration" (her super sleuthing scrutiny). That she actually pointed that out was gold (as the MC in Steelheart admits he loves metaphors, even though all his examples are actually similes ... which is pointed out in a later book, which was also gold!) My favorite simile in THIS book was when "It hit me like a tart in the face" and then as she had an additional thought "I got hit with a second tart." Laughing!

Some of the other items that made me smile ...

Confuzzling. I was flustered and flummoxed. I was thoroughly discombobulated.

A severe case of the sillies.

One snoggable gentleman (referring to Darcy).

Darcy saying "Do not allow your feet to tangle in the ropes as you escape ... I mean exit." and Lizzie thinking "That was easy for him to say, he wasn't wearing my feet nor did he possess me talent for foot-tangling."

My brilliant ideas often took over my body and frequently made it do things I had promised not to do.

Throwing Bunbury under the bus (funny, because he was LITERALLY thrown under a bus). He was unscathed ... okay, perhaps he was a teeny bit scathed.

He strode to the suits in full testosterone puff.

"I am very patient and can wait at least another minute or two."

I don't know that I loved the actual story (Mr. Darcy's secret, something about Templars and preserving buildings and underground something) - I think I really just enjoy Elizabeth!

This modern Mr Darcy story starts with a failed hot air balloon ride. Darcy is attracted to Lizzy, who refuses to jump into a formal relationship. She must discover what this mystery man does and whether or not she wants to be part of his world.

In this modern series what is Darcy's secret, why is Jane unhappy and why is Elizabeth an idiot who ignores all warnings of danger. A fast paced enjoyable story.

Loving this series

This is my favorite Barbara Silkstone series. Rizzo, bumbling dog psychologist and Darcy, rich handsome dog owner try to save a piece of London from a sink hole. It's funny, charming, and has a spark of romance to come. Nd yet another dog in the mix. Read and enjoy

Lizzie and Darcy and (Knightsbridge) Templars oh my! Talk about combining some of my favorite things. Some of the mystery that is this Darcy is revealed, but not enough to give away all his secrets. Silkstone's sense of humor shines through in some of Lizzie's thought processes. And the poodle slippers - I want a pair!

Another great read.

Mystery, action, fun and dogs...

Fast paced, with lots of witty dialogues and funny situations. All the main characters adapt wonderfully to the modern setting and at the same time keep the defining personalities that make them unique.
