This issue nails it. The writing dives deep into Diana’s mythology and character, giving the story weight and emotional resonance even when things calm down. The shift from chaos to calm works beautifully.

Artist Matías Bergara brings the mythic scale to life — Gaia, magic, earth-touched horror and beauty. The visuals are hauntingly gorgeous, and the mythological elements land with impact.

A strong, evocative chapter — subtle but epic, personal but universal. Definitely one of the best entries yet.

After fighting and losing to the energy entity that’s linked to her again, Diana thinks the only way to defeat it would be to destroy herself. Passed out after the fight, Absolute Zatata shows up and magically binds Diana to herself before Diana returns to her base.

There, Etta and her sister help Diana realize that powerful people who support and protect the innocent are long overdue, as the Absolute universe has been a darker, more hopeless, and more imbalanced place that favors evil, therefore making Diana’s presence not an imbalance, but the exact opposite.

So Diana goes to the next site the entity is at, lets it pummel her, uses her blood and pain as a sacrifice to gain an audience with the primordial Goddess Gaia, convinces her of the darker nature of the world, and gets her to destroy the entity, balancing things out. Diana returns to the base to find a news broadcast of an incident in Gotham involving the mark of Hecate.

Fucking hell, Absolute Wonder Woman’s story is just leagues above the other Absolute titles for me. The way she defeats this new threat by figuring out the intricate connection between balance and how dark things are in the absolute universe is just Top Notch writing; it fits her character and the setting of the book so well. On top of that, we saw Absolute Zatana again, and basically got confirmation that Diana and Bruce will be meeting in the next issue. Let’s Gooo!!!

Good week for Absolute books! The confrontation with Gaia was astoundingly powerful. I appreciate how Bergara mixes in nods to the other Absolute books with representations of real suffering. Elsewhere, Thompson reminds us just how imbalanced the world really is - and how we could use a Wonder Woman of our own to balance the scales. We’ll have to settle for this fantastic book.

A great end to a fight she could never win. Gia did the work for her, but evil Diana will be back. Can’t wait for the next issue. Crossover time.

I am so glad this is the book doing the foundation for further building out the world because Kelly Thompson is a genius and while I love Hayden Sherman on art, Matías Bergara did a fantastic job for these two issues! As we left off from the first of this two parter, Diana discovers the truth of what she is facing…the price of her magic. The thing running around and causing havoc and bringing feelings of rage with it is but an inverse of Wonder Woman herself. It is a creature that seeks balance in the world, but this is not a fair fight. Diana is finally able to stall this fight and give herself a bit of rest by using magic against it. But as she falls to the ground she suddenly finds a ghostly figure floating above her…it’s ZATANNA! Uh oh. Are you supposed to be here yet? Diana opens her eyes and reaches out in surprise and curiosity, and the entire time Zatanna speaks backwards as she apologizes to the princess and then calls out to her, attempting to list out her full name and bind Diana to her, to more specifically binding her voice to Zatanna when Diana is in Zee’s presence. I’m not exactly sure how successful the binding spell was, it took Zatanna saying it backwards a few times for Diana to realize what she was trying to do and fight back, but by the time that occurred Zatanna disappeared. Tbh I don’t think Zatanna was successful, names are powerful and Diana has a lot of titles and I think Zatanna missed a few.

But with this fight over it’s time once again to return to the Hieron and try and plan out the next one and how to solve it. Unfortunately with this creature being tied directly to Diana’s existence the only thing Diana sees to defeat it is to end her own life. Obviously everyone else is against it, the very idea is preposterous. They point out that this entire world is run by bad people, and in desperate need of people like her, how is any of this balancing anything out by going after her?! And Diana realizes they are absolutely right, Hecate and the other goddesses often spoke cryptically at how much darker this world is and Diana knows what she must do. They point out the possible locations where the next fight could take place, and Diana heads towards Greece hoping it is the right place as it is uninhabited and easier to call to a God in a sacred site.

Diana rushes over to Samothrace, Greece and immediately feels the darkness of the creature. As Diana faces the creature, she immediately lets it attack her. If she is to call a god like this she will need to bleed. As she falls to the ground with cuts all around her she suddenly calls out to Demeter to grant her audience with Gaia, the earth herself and grandmother to the gods! Suddenly the world below her cracks open and Diana begins to fall into the darkness, using a spell to give her a small light. As she gets to a down of ground she is suddenly surrounded by vines as the earth acts to constrict her. She immediately begins to fight back, she would not have the earth swallow her. But as the life around her continues to run rapid, she realizes what she is doing is wrong…and instead of fighting she submits and asks for forgiveness for loosing her senses. Diana calls out to Gaia as her body continues to be overridden by vines and plants, she calls out in need of council and through all of her pleas, right before she is about to be consumed, the plants pull away and she is freed. Suddenly a large mountain rises before her, great mother Gaia booms before Diana. Diana chooses her words carefully, she expresses that she believes the world has been tricked. Gods hate to hear that, but Diana explains with calmness and respect that the world is not in balance and the creature sent after her to correct the imbalance is out of place as the true imbalance is the world itself. Diana simply ask for Gaia to reach out and take a closer look and see for herself. Gaia finds it bold to suggest she would know better than the world itself, but Diana humbly points out that sometimes the closer you are to something…the harder it can be to see. And as the world looks out at all the death, famine, Qard peacemakers gunning people down, party animals in gotham, terrible business men, trafficking…Gaia realizes that Diana is correct and that something has been wrong with the world, perhaps since the begging. There’s a darkness she does not understand, and with Diana’s pledge to fight the darkness and give her life in Gaia’s name…Gaia let’s Diana go and then corrects the improper imbalance by bringing the inverse of Diana into the Earth. Diana takes solace in the idea that if it is in the inverse of her, then it should feel nothing and may actually like the idea of being unmade. As Diana arrives back to the Hieron she finds her “tiny amazons,” as she puts it’d fast asleep all while Steve is in the monitoring room. Diana gives a small debrief, how she made a deal with the earth itself and it is gone and how she may have been cursed by a beautiful witch. Unfortunately Steve has some bad news of his own as the military are apparently going to be a problem. But he has had some success with the drive from the maze, turns out there is a lot more details on batman, Superman, and the others than they expected. But suddenly the news catches Diana’s eye, as in Gotham another murder has popped up…next to the mark of Hecate. OOOOOOH, time for a batman/wonder woman team up to solve these mystic murders!! That's what I’m talking about…when is Diana going to get a moment to rest, lol.

Another great comic. She fights herself, then she passes out only for some kind of spirit to puts a spell on her. I’m assuming this is Zatanna. Then she realizes, with her friends, that the world is wrong. There is so much evil and not enough justice. So she realizes that the goddesss she needs to talk to is the one that has been there before all of them. Since the beginning of their universe. She meets with the Earth goddess I’m assuming. Here, the earth realizes the evil and makes Diana her champion. To be the good, the hope to
Combat the evil. She goes back to fight herself but the earth squelches the entity.

Things to point out here:

- these heroes exist as a balance to the universe , so darkseid tries to make them worse

- there seems to be an entity able to cause Diana to fall into her deep, dark thoughts. rage. Anger. Could this be what affects the trinity?

- DIANA KNOWS! She knows this world is NOT RIGHT! Woooooooo

- are they foreshadowing that she will die!!!?? As a balance to the world?

- the others are mentioned!

- Zatanna used most of Diana’s name. She has five

So now we know why she meets the Batman. The mark of Hecate is in Gotham city next to a crime. The question is why? Who’s is calling Diana to Gotham? Could this be the earth’s way of bringing more justice to the world, having our heroes meet?

Also, there’s a reason why Wonder Woman knows and is equipped better. Because it seems like the Greek gods know that the universe was changed. They are using her to be the tool that FIXES EVERYTHING!!!!!

LETS GO!

Another absurdly good issue from a series that so far has been allergic to missing. The scale of the conflict is very clear as you read, I liked how they wrote Gaia's dialogue as part of the background. Zatanna was such a delight even tought all her dialogue was backwards and I had to squint to read it, as usual with my dislexic ass VS Zatanna in any comics.
My only "disappointment" from this issue is that I will have to wait for 2 months instead of 1 to see how it continues. But I'm sure the batman crossover will be delightful too.

Would have liked more Zatanna. Not that excited about the next issue and that we're connecting to Absolute Batman (probably) because I didn't enjoy the Absolute Batman issue I read. We'll see. Thompson has given us great issues, so I should trust her.

This was a really well-done issue! Bergara did a great job stepping in for the art, keeping the unique layouts present and sense of action strong.

This story tackles the trope of "magical balance" really well, and I love the direction it took.

Really liked the story in this issue, but I'm not a huge fan of the guest artist's art style. Getting to see more of Absolute Zatanna was cool. I'm excited for more of her.
