Nunca.
I love reading Kris Bock's books because they're filled with characters who are genuinely nice people: the kind I wouldn't mind having as friends myself. This is no exception. When Josh's mom wins the lottery, he's afraid his simple life managing the family ranch is over, but his brother's childhood friend, who's now a lawyer, helps him negotiate the demands that money brings and keeps him grounded in what really matters: family, true friends, old alliances, and love.
What a wonderful book! The characters are very well portrayed, as are the difficulties of becoming a billionaire overnight. Josh is my favourite character. He is an absolute sweetheart, his Christmas present for Carly is perfect. I loved every word of this book and highly recommend it.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
I received this arc of The Billionaire Cowboy’s Christmas in exchange for my honest review. This is the first book in Kris Bock’s new series, The Accidental Billionaire Cowboys. This story is set in Last Stand, Texas and the author included some of the well known places, people and history from some of the other books set there. This was a fun plot, the Tomlinson matriarch, Ava, purchased lottery tickets for her book club and also purchased one for her family. The book club checked their tickets and didn’t win. However when Ava and her sons checked their ticket they realized they had won a billion dollars. There are 4 sons and this book features the oldest, Josh. He took over running the family ranch and taking care of his mom and younger brothers when his dad died suddenly several years ago. He is serious and focused on making sure the ranch is running smoothly and his brothers aren’t engaging in any costly ideas.
They decide they need to talk to a lawyer about what they should do to protect themselves. Carly Garza, a friend of their family, recently became a lawyer and they decided Josh should meet with her. He has been attracted to her but due to the family circumstances of everyone living in the family home and no spare time or money, had never acted on it. She also was interested in him but didn’t want to make the first move. When she was in middle school she was the girlfriend of Josh’s younger brother and everyone seemed to think they would eventually get back together. However, they are now just best friends and her interest lies with Josh. After Josh tells her about the ticket, she realizes she can’t suddenly announce her interest as it will look like she’s after the money now. At their meeting, it is decided that Carly will bring over people she knows from school to assist in the accounting and financial planning for the money. She moves into the ranch temporarily to keep her and the secret safe. They won’t report the win to the lottery people right away so people in town and elsewhere won’t be asking for money. It will also give them time to make plans and put the plan in place.
While staying at the ranch, Carly spends time talking to Josh and they go riding. At his request, she’s handling the decisions on the money for him. He escapes to his office and lets his family, Carly and the two advisors handle things. They discuss their mutual attraction and decide it is best to not act on it until things are more resolved with the winnings. They try to keep the ticket a secret from the townspeople but it somehow leaks out. Then they start damage control and try to save friendships and keep them selves safe. Josh and Carly want to act on their growing feelings and start a relationship but they resist.
This is a wonderful book. I like all the characters. In the first book we are introduced to all 4:of the brothers and the mother so we have more of an idea what each one is like. I really respected Josh for all he did to make sure the ranch survived and his family stayed together. He is serious but also loyal and devoted to those he cares about. This extended to Carly. The pairing is wonderful. Carly enjoys life on the ranch and fits in with the Tomlinson family since she spent so much to pine there growing up with Josh’s brother. I highly recommend this book. I look forward to the next book. Kris has a winning series here.
How would you react if your family became billionaires overnight, or to be more exact through a lottery ticket? One moment life goes on as usual; the next… life will never be quite the same. This is what has happened to the Tomlinson family, and while all that money will be useful beyond belief, it also opens up possibilities that could bring danger into their lives. So begins The Accidental Billionaire Cowboys series, and if the first book is any indication this is going to be quite an enjoyable ride.
What struck me first was how realistic the family’s reaction to this windfall was. It would be natural to start celebrating, telling friends, and maybe even having a night out on the town. But Ava has raised some smart men, and one of their first thoughts was how to protect themselves from those who might want to steal from them, con them, or suddenly find long-forgotten relatives arriving at their doorstep.
Carly is well-known to the family and has recently returned to Last Stand with her lawyer’s shingle in hand. Who better to represent them than a woman they’ve grown up with? Josh has had a silent crush on his childhood friend forever it seems, and now he needs her advice never realizing that Carly had hoped to take their friendship further once she returned home… which, of course, now she couldn’t do because it would look like she was after the money angle not wanting a life with Josh. Complicated enough for you? Yeah. Money can’t buy happiness, and these folks are about to realize that the hard way.
I enjoyed myself so much with The Billionaire Cowboy’s Christmas. Josh has always been the solid brother. But right now he’s realizing that his crush has gone so much deeper than the surface emotion it was into the forever kind of love stage. I loved watching them fall in love, and yes, there are complications, but those don’t get in the way of the bond that Carly and Josh have between them. Of course, it was impossible for their secret winnings to stay secret for very long which just added another layer to the plot. It’s going to be interesting to see how more lives are changed throughout the series. I had fun here, this is one of those unexpected windfall stories that was handled very realistically, but also with a good bit of laughter, confusion, family, and a town that just wants to celebrate one of their own making it big.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.*
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“He was still looking at her, that solemn, steady gaze that did something to her insides, even when she couldn’t read his expression.” Kris Bock, quote from ARC.
3.5 stars. A romantic story with unusual challenges for the main characters, “The Billionaire Cowboy’s Christmas”, by Kris Bock (Tule Publishing), is about people finally admitting and exploring a long time crush and attraction and confronting fears and obstacles. I really liked both Josh and Carly, they seemed so down-to-earth, realistic characters, to whom it was easy to relate to. Josh’s work ethic and dedication to his family, turning sometimes to an excessive need of control, is written so well. I liked that he’s so serious and level-headed and how his brothers joke with him about it, but he’s also a sweet person. Carly is a great heroine, too. Her decision about her career and going back to Last Strand, although not devoid of risks, made sense and gave the character depth. I liked how the author developed the mutual secret crush they’d been harboring. There were moments so cute with Josh’s embarrassment and blushing or the secret pleasure they take in just seeing each other. The way they admit their feelings, the openness and honesty, are refreshing, too. It was all natural and organic, even speaking about the big elephant in the room. I also liked the unusual theme of the lottery win and the problems it created along with the obvious benefits. Dealing with such personal and familial changes while falling in love presents a few major challenges. I liked the four brothers and their mother relationship and how the author wrote the advantages and disadvantages of living in a small-town.
The Billionaire Cowboy’s Christmas is the first contemporary romance I have read written by Kris Bock. I have read her cozy mysteries only. Even the title for this series is a salute to that series with The Accidental Billionaire Cowboys. The style is also similar in that the story centers around family and the characters are extremely likable while the plot is unique. There is much more to this story in that pacing is smooth so that it was easy to forget everything around me as I read but the events happening in the book.
Being back in Last Stand, Texas was such a wonderful surprise as well as the entire family of Tomlinson men and Mother. A great read from the beginning; it was exciting to see them win then the craziness started. I thoroughly enjoyed it all but I especially did love the scene with Mr. Smythe. You go Josh!
Honestly The Billionaire Cowboy’s Christmas is the best book I have read written by Kris Bock. I am a true blue fan of her books now and can hardly wait for the next in this series. I highly recommend this clean, romantic Christmas story.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
They say money makes everything better, but does it really. This is a new to me author and I Have to say I was not disappointed at all! I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see where these characters go next. I felt like the storyline was also new not something I had read before, its like the author dreamed up what would happen in real life and put in one paper. I really liked the whole family, however I did find Xander to be a bit of a mystery to me but in a way that makes you want to know more and see who he really is. I loved Ava and her huge heart for those who she truly loved and cared for. Josh grew up fast due to circumstances beyond his control but he still wanted what was best for his family. Carly was little miss independent also had a heart of gold but don't get in her way if you mess with the wrong person because she is a spit fire and ready to go to bat for the ones who just need someone on their side. Overall the author kept this a clean book and has a way of putting you right there in the middle of the story. This book did not disappoint and I can't wait for more.
When Texas ranching family, the Tomlinsons, win the lottery, Josh Tomlinson seeks advice from his brother’s best friend, Carly Garza, who has recently moved back to Last Stand after law school. Carly, along with a couple of her trusted friends, come up with a financial plan for the family.
Carly has always had a crush on Josh, but now the timing is wrong. She doesn’t want him to think she is just after him for just his money. But Carly soon finds out Josh has those same feeling for her. Will they ever be able to start a new relationship in the midst of the media circus, single women throwing themselves at Josh and his brothers and countless people who want a handout?
Through all the Christmas festivities and excitement of their big win, Josh comes up with the ultimate Christmas surprise for Carly. This part made me tear up.
I really enjoyed this book and already anxious to read the next books that will follow. I can’t wait to see how each of the brothers life will change and how they find their true love.
When the Tomlinson family win the lottery their life is changed for ever and Josh knows that they need help if they are going to have a great future So he talks to old friend Carly Garza who has recently returned from law school for help Soon she and a few of her friends have formed a plan for the Tomlinson family Carly has always had a crush on Carla but she knows she can't act on it because now it would look like she was after his money What she doesn't know is that Josh has always wanted her as well. Will they survive the media circus that is surrounding the family and the money grubbing females throwing themselves at Josh seeing him as a golden ticket and can they build a future together You will have to read to see
What would you do if you woke up one morning and found out by the afternoon that you had won the lottery and were a billionaire?
That is exactly what happened to the Tomlinsons! They were ranchers from a small town who had a hard time making ends meet. Theis would definitely change their lives, but would it be for the better or worse? This story has all the details.
I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opinion.
Winning a billion dollar lottery can surely impact everything even when it is not what you want. For the Tomlinson family, winning equals big changes and big headaches. The family calls on lawyer and long time friend, Carly, to help out. She has long had a crush on Josh, the eldest son. Now may be the time for him to notice her. Will money get in the way? I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this story. The couple was cute and the hesitancy to start something up under the circumstances made sense. I liked how supportive they were to each other. The romance wasn't showcased as much as I would have liked, but given it was a series starter and lots of life things were being dealt with it did make sense. Overall, a very enjoyable sweet story. *I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
What a wonderfully written book. Josh and Carly were perfect for each other. I thought that the story line was different but it grabbed my attention from the start. It took place in a small town and I love small town stories. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The premise of this book was fun and The Billionaire Cowboy's Christmas was a good starter to the series. I liked both Josh and Carly's characters; finding them to be genuine, loyal and kind people. Unfortunately, my issue was the developing romance. Not just because the pace they came together was very slow, but because this book sets up the rest of the series, there was not a lot of couple time. In addition, they each hesitated not knowing how the other felt so that in itself made progression slow. That was disappointing and I truly hope to see more glimpses of them in future books. This book had quite a bit of secondary characters that had a lot of page time. Don't misunderstand me because I liked the Tomlinson family very much. Each character was individual in personality and likable and I look forward to reading their stories. I just wished there was more Josh ad Carly; an epilogue would have been appreciated.
That said, let me tell you more about what I liked. I truly loved how down to earth Josh was. I loved how shy and kind he was but at the same time acting the patriarch to keep the family ranch surviving. He loved his family and only wanted the best for each and everyone of them. Josh's relationship with his mother was as lovely as she was. Each of Josh's brothers had different personalities and different interests. Going forward in this series, I'm curious to see how they handle the fame and wealth they suddenly have. After reading this book, I realized it must be difficult as well as joyful having that much money. If only, lol.
Although I received and advanced reading copy of The Billionaire's Christmas this is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.
