ETERNAL FLOWER OF YOUR SOUL is Klaus Kinion's debut hardcore horror novelette.
I hope that by learning my unique methods, you will be able to let go of the things you no longer need, and that this will bring great peace to the eternal flower of your soul.
This was a totally unique and original take on body horror.
Imagine you just bought a self-help DVD from your favorite transcendent minimalist lifestyle coach.
You’re beyond excited to get some exclusive tips and tricks.
But then, yeah.
The advice is absolutely vile.
Noriko Ōno really is the definition of “just get rid of it.”
This is a brilliant, short splatterpunk story, oozing insanity and sickness. It's incredibly well-done, the writing clear and precise, and the imagery disturbing enough to keep even the most hardened extreme horror fan pleased and alert throughout. The ending won't really surprise anyone, but it certainly satisfies.
So what's it about? Well, it's very short, about 30 pages, so I can't say much without spoiling it. Let's say that it explores, through the video transcript format, the mindset of a successful life-coacher, from a truly worrisome viewpoint. There's some truth that seeking absolute peace, integrity, and balance is the aim of all therapeutic approaches to living a well-structured and comfortably organized life; when it comes to defining what might work as a systematic way to achieve this, opinions and methods vary, but one thing is certain: cluttering your life with unnecessary things (or persons) is one big no-no. Can't afford a life-organizer of your own? No prob; pick up a life-coaching lecture on DVD, put it in, and watch and learn.
This is probably not the DVD course you should pick up, but if you enjoy hard hitting extreme horror with a message, stories that not only upset your stomach but also make you think a bit about the point of it all, this small gem is perfect. I loved it!
An Oriental wife and mother has embraced a minimalist philosophy that carries her existential theories to an extreme conclusion, namely that all external stimuli are noxious, dangerous,or even evil. This results in her recording her philosophy and the steps to becoming an "Eternal Flower Of Your Soul". She is recording every step to full realization to DVD. The discs will reach the masses. She has become ensnared in a dangerous circular argument that is invalid. Her belief system will prove to be a fatal attraction. The author writes an intriguing splatterpunk tale which is haunting in its own heartbreaking way because the House always wins in this story and all players lose. Kinion writes sharp incisive prose but with a descriptive flair which finishes the violent scenes he paints with his words. Extreme horror is on full display but is not gratuitous. It is nevertheless bloody, gory, shocking, sickening, and saturates the narrative. He writing style is smooth yet confident. I really liked it.
Klaus if this is an example of Splatterpunk you can be expected to write, bring it on! Count me as a fan.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "If it doesn’t bring great peace to the eternal flower of your soul… throw it in the trash."
Unless it’s this book. You have to keep this book.
I, personally, hate to admit it, but yes, my desk is full of clutter, and yes, I'm a hoarder. It's not an extreme over the top hoader or a person that has a lot of clutter, but still, I hoard... but after reading this novella, it makes me want to just get rid of the things i don't need in my life so that I can achieve the level of serenity that our MFC Noriko Ōno speaks of in her self help videos.
I have NEVER BEEN MORE INSPIRED OR HORRIFIED to take a few pointers from Noriko, and at a whopping 30 pages, i immediately needed MORE
Klaus is an absolute madman and an absolute genius for sending me this novella. At just 30 pages, Eternal Flower of Your Soul took my love of the self-help genre, grabbed it by my innards, and bathing them in blood.
You will be immensely surprised because this isn’t just a horror story.
It's a HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE involving minimalism, turning it into something spiritual and beautiful? (You probably won't think so once you have a chance to read it) and if I'm being truly honest, this has got to be HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE GREATEST things ever to be written in the world of splattepunk.
It is DISTURBING. It is CLEVER. It is BEAUTIFUL, in its own weird way, and COMPLETELY UNHINGED (so check trigger warnings ⚠️)
My FINAL THOUGHTS? Declutter your life. Keep this book. It will spark PEACE, but at the same time, trauma, that is IRREVERSIBLE!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and well done for such an incredible debut novella! Sign me up for more of this Klaus!
I’ve said it once & I’ll say it again. I love all the new talent that is popping up in the splatterpunk/EH genre & I am constantly wowed at what they have to offer. Klaus Kinion is another prime example. From just the opening of the book premise for Eternal Flower of the Soul, I already KNEW I needed it. The cover, done by him as well, also deserves ALL the accolades. THIS is how you do a debut. Short, sweet, nasty, visceral, harrowing, yet still…wholesome?-ish? Kinda? As if I’m able to differentiate between what’s “hinged” & not. 😅
Quick Synopsis: Noriko has life all figured out. To the point that she wants to share her life minimalist philosophies with everyone. In a world that has too much, why not make some sacrifices? Who knows what benefits you may gain with less. What freedoms you may attain just by unburdening yourself of dead weight? Follow along while Noriko explains her tranquility-seeking program & demonstrates it in painstaking detail.
This was a home run for me, but I am admittedly biased. I read that *other* “art of throwing all your shit away” book in a day & legit emptied out half of my house. I still miss my beanie babies tho; mistakes were made. 🥹 This was a quick concise novella that slices to the white meat & was unrelenting from the giddyup. I normally am a fan of girth (pause) in my stories, but this one delivered in the perfect little succinct package that sparked infinite, agonizing joy for me. I actually was a bit nervous how the author could pull off such a UNO Reverse on us, but he 👏🏽 did 👏🏽 that. It was equal parts beautiful, fucked-up, mesmerizing, disturbing, & doomed from its inception. A creative endeavor & a very neat, well organized debut that ATE. Left no clutter nor crumbs. Very much looking forward to whatever Klaus has up his sleeve in the near future!
Cue Billy Mays “but wait there’s more!” This story went HARD! I felt like I was reading a messed up infomercial that was secretly found. Just an absolutely wild ride. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for an extreme/splatterpunk fans
I absolutely cannot wait to see what Klaus brings to the table next. I can see why this has been receiving so much high praise, it was incredible! Unhinged! Brutal! Insane! Just brilliant! I absolutely loved it!
In an attempt to become her one true self, to find peace with the eternal flower of her soul, we see a quietly insane woman, sinister, disturbing in her pleasantness, do what she believes is necessary. Whatever and however that may be. Such a strong character, you're completely invested in her in such a short period of time.
It's a quick one sitting read, (if it had been 400 pages, I wouldn't have been able to put it down for a second), with a serene, surreal and eerie feel to it from the outset.
It rapidly takes a deeply disturbing turn, like a horrifically gory car crash that you can't take your eyes off. Completely gripping and bone chilling! This story had me squirming and wincing....a lot! And I consider myself pretty unflappable!
It's very graphic, with great visual descriptions, and a super slick narrative. Gnarly as hell it will have you on the edge of your seat, with your jaw on the floor!
"If it does not bring great peace to the eternal flower of your soul; discard it!” 💚
The author very kindly sent me a copy of this book. Very cleverly written, we witness the FMCs descent into madness which is both sad and grotesque. It reminded me very much of the transcendence aspect of films like Martyrs, where the character has to go through unadulterated pain to reach bliss and a higher state of being. A very strong debut from this author.
I love when gore / horror is nonchalant, there’s no rhyme or reason it just happens because it happens and this book was the most disgusting perfect example of that.
slight spoiler: but, my clitoris is owed compensation 💀🖤
Bought this because the cover was cool did not expect it to be a Marie Kondo lost episode pasta lol. Enjoyed it tho!! Very viscerally written which idk a lot of splatterpunk stuff can feel detached about its mutilation. 93.7% chance that this author had watched splatter naked blood….
It’s only 30 pages it can’t be that bad.. the FMC wants to achieve total purity and believes by getting rid of unnecessary belongings and chopping her nose off she can achieve this 😅
Beautifully vile. I, unfortunately, was attempting to eat breakfast while eating this. It starts out innocently enough, but it is certainly a boiling frog situation. By the time you realize what's happening, you're far too invested in the story.
A short trip down splatterpunk lane, where even the guys will be crossing their legs by the end.
A quick, extremely violent, and disturbing read. There's not a ton of plot to this, but the concept and the way it was executed really grabbed me and forced me to finish it in a single sitting. While it has some really sickening situations and painstaking descriptions, it also has an almost cozy-feeling analog horror vibe to it, which made it unique to other things that I've read.
As absolutely bonkers and creative the story is, what the author excelled at was providing insight into the philosophy of minimalism, and how a person's belief or ideology taken to the extreme can lead to some fascinating outcomes. From my own interpretation I saw nodes of Samudaya, or the Second Noble Truth in Buddhism, in addition to, what could be argued is a twisted interpretation of Nietszche's active nihilism.
The author did an amazing job. Whenever the next new book drop is, I'll be there for it.
This book is SO good! Also can we take a moment to appreciate how beautiful the cover is?!
As a former (unhappy!) minimalist, who has consumed a lot of Marie Kondo content I ate this book up.
It reads like an episode of Black Mirror; starting with Noriko telling her audience about the joy that can be found in owning nothing, only to quickly descend into body horror so brutal I had to cross my legs while I was reading!
It’s currently only 75p on Godless which is an absolute steal!
This is body horror perfection! So if you’re into extreme horror, you need to check this one out.
I absolutely loved it!
Noriko is an influencer of minimalist living and she is filming a very special and super secret dvd where she shows how to transcend and achieve perfection, as in by getting rid of everything that is not needed, not only around the house but within herself. And things get wild and gory pretty fast.
This is one of those stories that you think there’s no way it can get worse and it proves you damn wrong!
Eternal Flower of Your Soul is easily one the best books I’ve read so far this year and it’s Klaus debut novel so I cannot wait to see what he comes up with next.
“If disorder is the presence of things, then what is the purest form of order and organisation? It is the absence of things; nothingness!”
Oh. My. Goodness. I think I read over half of this story with my jaw dropped and one hand covering my eyes. This story goes hard with the body horror. REALLY HARD.
So hear me out, you buy a DVD from a famous/professional home organizer and transcendent minimalist lifestyle coach. You pop the bad boy in thinking you’re going to declutter your life. Then… well… hell breaks loose on screen… to say the least.
Klaus Kinion curated an absolutely amazing story that I binge read faster than most. The way the book is set up is really unique. It almost takes on a semi second person POV alongside commentary of what’s going on. It’s hard to explain without ruining the entire plot, but trust me, it’s awesome. I truly had no idea where this book was going to go then BAM, the reader is smacked with a WTF moment. (In the best way possible.)
I think this an author people need to look out for. If 30 pages invoked the feelings it did in me, then I can only imagine what they’ll offer next.
It’s clear to me now why this is number 1 on the Godless charts. I highly recommend delving into this one and definitely keeping an eye on this author and their next release.
I really enjoyed Eternal Flower of Your Soul. What initially drew me in was the cover—a smiling woman who looks perfectly calm, but there’s this eerie sense that something’s not quite right. That feeling pays off in a big way.
Things start unraveling quickly: she throws away her husband’s “needless” possessions—his heart medication, which is a great bit of foreshadowing—and then casually admits to having killed a child when she was younger. And somehow, that’s still just the beginning.
The gore in this book is excellent—visceral, creative, and deeply uncomfortable in all the right ways. Noriko’s overly cheerful narration creates a strange, effective contrast as her situation becomes more physically and psychologically disturbing.
The “hangnail” scene will definitely stick with me—it’s brief but absolutely unforgettable.
If you like horror that blends the surreal with the grotesque and balances it all with a deceptively light narrative voice, this one is worth picking up.
Eternal Flower of Your Soul by Klaus Kinion is a macabre bloom of grief, beauty, and decay. It’s the kind of story that crawls under your skin and whispers poetry while it bleeds. Kinion writes like someone dissecting a dream with tenderness, rot, and just enough horror to make your heart twitch.
Every page drips with the feeling of something sacred dying slowly. It’s romantic, grotesque, and painfully human. A love letter to darkness itself.
I love a good body horror, and this did not disappoint!
The way the author fully described every single detail with such clarity and creativity throughout the whole story made me feel like I was right there watching everything go down.
Congratulations to the author on their debut, and I can't wait to read more!
I've become less of a fan of novellas recently. Either they are written poorly, lack structure or as is often the way; would have benefitted from being longer with a better fleshed out story.
Not in this case! This was beautifully written, a simple premise, wonderfully executed and damn was it graphic. I loved it... 🖤
OMG, this splatter punk read is wild. Imagine Marie Kondo’s “spark joy” philosophy taken to a gruesome extreme. A wife and mother of two boys becomes obsessed with decluttering and achieving perfection—but in her world, getting rid of what doesn’t bring joy takes on a bloody, horrifying twist. Super fast scary read.
