Junkyard Wisdom Lent: The Human Side of Lent begins as Jesus Journeys Toward Jerusalem

Rate this book
Junkyard Wisdom Lent takes readers on a refreshingly human and often humorous walk through the season of Lent. In forty short, story-driven devotions, Roy Goble reimagines Jesus’s journey to Jerusalem as a gritty, heartfelt road trip filled with real people, messy moments, and unexpected grace. With his trademark blend of honesty, wit, and warmth, Goble helps readers see the divine story through a deeply human lens.

Far from a traditional devotional, Junkyard Wisdom Lent invites you to rethink familiar scriptures, laugh along the way, and find hope in the ordinary. Each reflection pairs scripture with engaging storytelling and thoughtful questions, encouraging a faith that’s authentic, curious, and alive. It’s an invitation to journey with Jesus—not just to the cross, but toward renewed joy and understanding this Easter.

Another meaningful road trip.

I love Roy Goble's style, relaxed, humorous, thought provoking, and welcoming to all. He helps us remember Jesus was a real person and lived a real life. Reading his work makes scripture accessible and and relatable. You don't need a degree in theology to read this books; or his other works; just an open heart and a sense of humor. When I read his devotions I really feel I'm enough and a relationship with Jesus is not only availablen it's also attainable.

Wow - what a great perspective!

I read this book with a group of ladies across the US for a Lenten Study. At first I was skeptical about the book and the title, but then I started reading and couldn’t stop! Loved this book, just sad it is over…but not really….
