Freya Through the Void

Rate this book
Early unsettling encounters with the Void lead Freya to believe herself a it is with astonishment she learns this is far from the truth.

Our heroine Freya finds herself plagued at a young age by encounters with the Void. Struggling to make sense of these leads her into all kinds of adventures. She seemingly tumbles haphazardly into a Cuban romance, translating at an ayahuasca retreat in the depths of the Scottish countryside, an angelic manifestation, nodal activation in Cusco, Peru and, not least, having to step in to help resolve a seemingly intractable family problem. Is all this quite random or is there a guiding force at work which has had her back all along?

'This is a great piece of writing. I read it in just three days. It has touched me in a very positive and healing way.'

Lucy E.M. Hunter lives quietly in Edinburgh. Her books aim to convey wisdom gleaned from a lifetime of travel, discovery and adventure. She has an academic background in Religious Studies, specialising in Jewish Mysticism. Rather than follow an academic career, she devoted her life to teaching yoga and raising her children, all the while taking a deep dive into the world of Metaphysics. When not at her desk she loves pottering in her garden, time with her grandchildren and dancing the Argentine tango.

This is a really special book. Lucy E.M. Hunter explores huge and complex spiritual and metaphysical concepts in a narrative that is grounded, humorous, moving, and deeply relatable. I was particularly touched by the representation of large scale plans being hatched in the angelic realm, and the very real impact they have on the humans affected by them. The tea-sipping, cracker-nibbling heroine, Freya, is delightfully real. While grappling with dark and turbulent forces in the spiritual plain, she still falls in love, has family dramas, and needs loo breaks like all the rest of us! I highly recommend Freya Through the Void, especially to anyone who has ever been curious about the wider spiritual context behind the struggles of being a human in the 21st century.

This is the sort of book that sneaks up on you. Slow, yet powerful, at its heart it speaks on identity and what it can mean — or take — to be true to who you are.

I’m not usually the biggest fans of ‘spirituality’ books, but this truly surprised and hooked me. The kind of book that will stick with my long after I have finished the last page. It is a full journey of a reading experience.

With the chaos of a world we currently live in, this book comes at a time where a heart and message of integrity is most welcome. Not so much plot focused but still standing its ground in what it wishes to share with you.

Highly interesting read.

Thank you to Love Book Tours and Lucy E M Hunter for gifting me this book.

I couldn't put "Freya Through the Void" down. I don't remember ever the last time that occurred. Yes, the plot and story is compelling and accessible in a way that feels strangely familiar but it also was the relevance of each theme in also somehow a timeless way. The author has a sage way of being real, bringing humor and humanness to the forefront, while also diving into rich cultures - languages - histories - relationships - dynamics, and laying bare some realities of life that we often overlook or are not present to. I finished the book after reading all day on a Sunday (morning until night!) moved and more present in my own life. A hardcore recommend.

Freya Through the Void is a vivid, emotionally charged book that draws the reader fully into Freya’s way of seeing the world. The writing is zesty and energetic, infused with colour, movement, and a childlike purity that feels both joyful and disarming. There is an immediacy to the prose that makes the experience immersive rather than observational.
At its heart, the book explores empathy, spirituality, and what it means to remain open-hearted in a rational, structured world. Freya’s sensitivity is portrayed as both strength and vulnerability, giving the story warmth and depth without sentimentality. Darkness is acknowledged, but it is met with compassion rather than fear.
What sets this book apart is its emotional generosity. From the first pages, the reader is enveloped in a sense of presence and connection that lingers beyond the final line. Freya Through the Void will appeal to readers who are drawn to introspective spirituality that celebrates vitality, resilience, and the beauty of seeing the world with an unguarded honesty and empathy.

This was a fascinating read and a far more emotional read that I thought it would be.
There was a spirituality throughout the book that drew me in right from the beginning through to the end and lingered long after I’d finished.
The writing was exceptional I felt part of Fraya’s story, it was relatable, humorous at times but more than that it really came alive off the way making my heart sing.
It’s one of those books that’s hard to describe, a journey rather than just a read.
A 5⭐️ read that will appeal to many, a highly recommended read whatever genre you like.

Freya Through The Void is a complex yet accessible tale that explores themes of metaphysics, spirituality and empathy, all wrapped up in a wonderfully vivid and descriptive piece of writing that's sure to draw you in and hold your attention to the very end.h

Humour is prevalent throughout as is a feeling of genuineness and heart, with world building that's evocative, colourful and realistic.

I read this over one blustery winter weekend.

Freya Through the Void comes across as a very spiritual book, which is not usually my kind of read. That said, I found it genuinely interesting and refreshingly different.

The best way I can describe this book is calm. It is less focused on plot and more on its message, which is a strong and much needed one, especially considering the times we have recently lived through and what may still lie ahead. At its core, the story centres on kindness, giving both others and ourselves grace, and striving to remain open to new experiences and new people.

Hunter’s writing is engaging and brings a soft yet energetic and joyful warmth to the book. I honestly think I would not have enjoyed it as much if it had been written by someone else. At no point did I feel preached at or spoken down to, which can sometimes happen in stories with spiritual themes.

Freya’s journey is very much about finding your place in the tapestry that makes up life, by following threads and learning to read the signs the universe presents to you.

Overall, this was a warm, comforting read, and one that feels particularly well suited to a cold January.

This book felt like a gentle conversation with the universe.
Following Freya’s adventures reminded me of the unexpected ways life prepares us for our purpose, often long before we understand it. Through her travels, her relationships, and the encounters that shape her path, the story invites us to slow down, to listen, and to trust the signs that appear when we are aligned with ourselves.
What touched me most was the book’s deep sense of love and generosity, not as abstract ideas, but as everyday practices of appreciation, courage, and connection. There is a tenderness in the way the narrative brings together spirituality, human relationships, and inner transformation.
Reading it was a beautiful reminder that we are part of something bigger, and that when we open ourselves to life’s flow, we find meaning in the most unexpected places. This is a heartfelt, uplifting book that stays with you long after the last page.

The story of Freya Through the Void is well grounded in this world, making its ventures into the spirit world more convincing, although the everyday life of the main character is far from mundane and boring. The world seen through Freya’s eyes makes compelling reading.
