Alien Devil’s Shadow by Ava York
This one had me hooked from the very first page and honestly I never stood a chance.
And let’s be real, if a book involves the Vinduthi I will always be first in line to read it however somehow this one got passed me and I missed its release! Gutted!
Ava York delivers a story that feels intimate and expansive all at once. On the surface it’s a mission: an assassin sent to retrieve something valuable. But underneath it’s grief, healing, trust and two people who have no business falling for each other and do anyway.
Our Vinduthi MMC, Kallum is exactly the kind of hero I can’t resist, quiet, watchful and far more emotional than he lets on. The “ghost” reputation is completely earned. But what really got me was how he shows up for the human FMC in this story, Anhara in the smallest ways. Fixing things. Waiting. Protecting without being asked. He falls first and you feel it in every restrained, careful choice he makes.
And Anhara, oh I loved her. She’s strong without being hardened, capable without losing that softness that comes from loving deeply and losing even deeper. Her grief is still present, still shaping her world and watching her slowly let someone in again felt real and earned.
The dynamic between them is everything I want in a slow burn, forced proximity, tension that simmers instead of rushes and those quiet moments that say more than any declaration. Every glance, every accidental touch and every shared space on that isolated farm builds something that feels inevitable even when they’re both trying to resist it.
And then there’s Turnip. Absolutely iconic. A war pig with personality I want one!
What starts as something small and contained slowly unfolds into something much bigger with danger pressing in from all sides. By the time the action hits you’re already fully invested not just in what happens but in them.
My View: What really stood out to me was how emotional this story is without losing its edge. There’s action, there’s tension, there’s heat but at its core it’s about connection. About choosing to trust. About letting someone matter when you know exactly what it costs.
And that ending was completely satisfying. A HEA that feels earned not handed over.
A quiet, emotional, slow burn romance wrapped in danger and devotion and I loved every second of it 💜

This was actually a pretty well done story! I really loved both Kallum and Anhara. I love quite thoughtful mature MCs (I think I’m overstimulated enough in real life that loud bratty over the top MCs stress me out lol). I haven’t read any of the other books in this series so the world and side characters were all new to me. I may go back and check out some as I enjoyed seeing the other couples at the end.
This was a great short pallet cleanser with some decent spice and a whole heap of emotional depth. I really liked how Kallum and Anhara grew their connection (albeit over a week lol but it is fantasy 🤷🏼♀️). They start off as prickly strangers, both with high emotional walls and loaded guns (literally). But they bond over a mutual mentor since passed and a need to protect his farm (where Anhara has been living alone for 3 years), and his legacy. As enemies descend (constantly) they become strong partners, a connection that quickly grows into attraction and more.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two capable respectful beings actually work together and talk to each other. Their connection felt real and genuine because of it. We have a tiny bit of angst and yearning because both are scared to let their walls down, but the book is so short it can’t linger for long. And this one is packed with action as well, so the romance does move quickly but authentically. I’ll have to check out more in the world.

Ava York's Alien Devil's Shadow is the latest Vinduthi Stolen Brides book. Kallum is a Shadow, able to silently sneak around on secret adventures. Thus time he's looking for the final part of the puzzle that will unlock all. He arrives on a moon where his mentor once lived and finds Anhara, a human female trained by Torek, and her 200 pound killer boar. Once he proves himself not a threat, the two work together to unlock the fifth relic and defeat legions of mercenaries. Though gravely injured, Kallum, Anhara, and Turnip make it back to the team. Now to put the 5 relics together in the next installment.

Mission Compromised
Enjoyed reading Anhara and Kallum's story. Both had the same mentor and both now have their own mission. Slowly they begin to trust each other and must work together to protect their mentors legacy. When the Conclave send retrieval troops they work together to keep each other alive, to find an escape when retrieval turns into destruction.
And who wouldn't love Anhara's pet Fangean Bear (aka a War Pig).
Great read and plunges us closer to the final reckoning for the Regalia.

Love the series. I also love that each book can be read as a standalone. There is some crossover but the main characters bring their own story. Kallum is our Vinduthi male. His mission is to gain an object that his team needs. Anhara knows how to get the item but first he must gain her trust and then survive the enemy that has no issue with taking them both out. The story has plenty of action, romance and heat.

A human woman has been living on a farm on a distant moon all by herself since her mentor died. She has been protecting the one thing that her mentor had hidden to keep it safe. A male alien warrior is on a mission to either find his old mentor or the person that is living on a distant moon. You will have to read the book to find out what all happens. Happy reading!

This is a page turner that I couldn't put down. It was heartfelt and emotional from the very beginning. It was a journey that both Anhara and Kallum had to take. The love and losses of life and it's belongings was a sacrifice that was difficult to observe but Ava approached this with compassion. An amazing read 💜

A heartfelt and emotional journey! I enjoyed watching Kallum and Anhara slowly lower their guards and move from guarded strangers to a unified front. This entry into the Vinduthi Stolen Brides is a fast-paced, high-action read with a romance that feels surprisingly tender while bringing us closer to the finale of the series.

An emotional rollercoaster. kallum and Anhara were two different individuals brought together for different reasons but found common ground. Seeing past walls to the person and not the reflection. The best yet.

intense
Definitely dark and violent book. Enjoyed the slow build and especially the wrap up.
Hoping the next will see them successful and if possible glimpse of them all on a home planet with peace and families.

I love the Vinduthi books, and this one is right up there with the others. I enjoyed the story and the characters, not just Anhara and Kallum, but also Turnip.

Anhara lives on the farm left to her by Torek who has since died. Kallum has come to retrieve the last regalia. But they must defeat an army sent to erase them. Enjoy
