One night.
Three lives lost.
Memories, poof, gone.

Everyone blames me—his friends, my best friend—all gone. I can’t remember what happened, but Xaden Devlin does.
He’s the devil wrapped in a beautiful package.
I'm a moth to his flame.
And he’s made it his mission to destroy me.
He’s the heir to the most feared family in town—cold, cruel, and carved from vengeance.
He calls me Tink, a cruel reminder that
“Fairies die when no one believes in them anymore.”
The more he taunts me, the more I see the truth in his eyes…
The truth about that night.
The truth about my family.
And most of all the truth about us.
Maybe the devil isn’t the monster after all.
Maybe I am.

I am not okay. I have not been okay since page THREE.

PUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT by Samantha Barrett grabbed me by the throat from the getgo and whispered “good luck” before absolutely ruining my life. If you want hockey + dark romance + bullying + mafia chaos + emotional trauma with a side of what the actual f*ck, congratulations, this is your new personality.

I binge-read 0–54% like a possessed demon, only stopped because it was 1am and my body had the audacity to require sleep. Day two? I resented my job. My partner and people. Deeply. How DARE all that interrupt this emotional hostage situation.

Let’s talk characters.

XADEN.
An alpha arsehole of the highest order. Violent. Cold. Calculated. A literal serial killer and yes, we know early, so don’t clutch your pearls. I love an alpha a-hole and this man understood the assignment with terrifying precision. Red flags? He IS the flag. 🚩 And I ate it up.

TOREN.
Lost. Bruised. Just trying to survive while the universe keeps body-slamming her into concrete. And honestly? Relatable. Haven’t we all had a season where life just keeps saying “again”? Watching her arc moment, watching her finally snap into screw this, fighting back even when she had nothing behind her… chef’s kiss. That growth hit me right in the ribs.

This story is dark, chaotic, gripping, and emotionally feral. It’s a “just one more chapter” lie that ruins your sleep schedule. And that ending?
SAM.
SAMANTHA.
YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID.

A “happy for now” HA!!! that left me screaming into the void, pacing my house, demanding book two like a feral raccoon shaking a vending machine. I am left wanting. Needing. Dramatically staring at the ceiling whispering what the fck

Also yes, hockey romance lovers, we WIN. The hockey element was fun, sharp, and added just the right edge to the darkness. Mafia vibes + hockey vibes + dark romance vibes all colliding like a beautiful car crash I could not look away from.

Hands down, if you want dark mafia hockey chaos that consumes your soul, this is the book. Samantha Barrett, you’ve done it again and I will not forgive you until book two is in my hands. 🏒🖤🔥

I am done. I am unwell. I would reread immediately.

Yooooo! This is so good! And that cliff hanger had me gagging!! Thank god for #HambrightPR and #SamanthaBarrett for the ARC! 🖤🖤🖤
This is giving dark, dark, darkness!
Bringing bully vibes mixed with mafia badness and on top of that crazy hockey players beating the shit out of each other.
This isn’t enemies to lovers, this is enemies to enemies that kind of hate fuck each other, and I’m down to clown!
It’s like all my favourite tropes had a dirty, dirty baby 😂
There’s banter, and there is fucking spice 🔥🔥🔥
I need the second book right now because what the actual fuck was that, I had a full blown crisis trying to accept that ending!
Also, I desperately need a book just on Caspian alone.
Samantha you have gained yourself a steadfast fan!
And I’m here for everything you publish!

This is a 4.25 for me. This was fun to read and had an interesting mystery attached to it of what really happened that night and I truly didn't figure out until the end, and it ends on a cliffhanger I did not see coming. Those last couple chapters hit really hard.

From the first moment your heart breaks for Toren who has lost everything and she truly doesn't know why (she woke up in the hospital with amnesia of not just that night but the week of the incident) because not only has every single person around her abandoned her but even those with limited contact with her refuse to tell her anything. That plus the incident has caused such an uproar that the whole country knows about it, memes were made and even some have used her name as like oh don't Toren. So along with not having the slightest clue as to why it all happened, she has literal strangers coming up to her calling her a murderer. You would think that would be it but on top of that is a man who is her brother's nemesis/enemy who is so charismatic she can't stay away from him even if his attention is not the good kind. I mean the guy straight up told her that he calls her Tink bc he thinks of her as Tink and Faries die when people stop believing in them.

Her story is dark, depressing and heartbreaking and with everything she is going through it makes sense how she can't stay away from Xaden even though she knows that he is out to destroy her and her family using her to do it. The same family who abandoned her and won't tell her why.

While I enjoyed the dark and grittiness of the story there are some parts you will have just go along with or at least I did personally. 1 being while she has a reason to not having a phone/laptop, and apparently the libraries at this school don't have shared computers anymore but I find it hard to believe that if she was really that curious about what was going on she couldn't have found some way to get on the internet. Even asking her tutor if she could borrow his phone for 5 min especially when they came to their agreement. The other thing is while I completely agree drunk driving is a serious offense and the hatred of her affected community is also completely understandable but I find it hard to believe a drunk driving incident like hers would have made the impact that it made to where she became a meme and her name is now used as a saying like going Toren. Her father's political standing also didn't happen until after her being sent away so it's not like it was due to some political standing or dynasty to have that impact. I honestly thought with her being sent to a psych facility and the visceral reaction some people had just at the sight of her along with the memory loss that it was something completely different. So, I was glad for the misdirection I was also like oh that's what happened and it felt also a little anti climatic. Again, drunk driving is a serious offense but to have people on the other side of the country hating you to such a degree when sadly drunk driving is not an uncommon occurrence seemed a bit extreme. But maybe I am just too desensitized.

This is a dark story that will pull you in with an FMC who breaks your heart and an MMC who is more than happy to break the FMC to get his revenge all while having this dark chemistry that they can't stay away from one another, and you can't look away from. There is also the extra added element of this being rival mafia families so along with all the issues Toren has going on there is also issues going on with the Mafia families which has her at the center of it. The next book will be a doozy I am sure to wrap up all these points.

----

This book is about Toren who suffered a tragedy that she can't remember but has caused not just everyone she knows and loves to hate her and abandoned her but has also turned her into a meme and even has people she never met hating her and calling her a murderer and monster. When she woke up with no memory of not just the night but the week it happened, she thought she would have her friends and family around to help her but instead they stuck her in a psychiatric facility for a year with no explanation and when she was finally let out and allowed home she thought now would be the time they would come together and someone would finally tell her what happened. But instead, her family drop her off with little word at college and told to behavior or else she would be sent back to the facility. Lost and confused she is just trying to make it through the day and not cause trouble, but when she has literal people coming up to get calling her a murder it can be overwhelming. So, when the man her brother always warned her about, Xaden crosses her path promising to destroy her and her family she knows she should stay away but she can't help being drawn to this devil incarnate who has the power to burn her alive. He’s the heir to the most feared family in town and his eyes promise vengeance for the harm I have caused him all while he calls me Tink. A cruel reminder that “Fairies die when no one believes in them anymore.” The more he taunts her the more she starts to see that perhaps everyone is right and she is the monster that they all think her to be.

“Fairies die when no one believes in them anymore”

Whoa—what a ride Puck Around and Find Out was! This is a dark mafia romance, which isn’t usually my go-to, but I have to admit…I absolutely devoured this book.

The story follows three friends who died one tragic night and Toren, the sole survivor who has lost all memory of what really happened. Enter Xaden—dangerous, magnetic, and impossible to resist—like a moth to her flame. But nothing is ever as it seems.

This book is packed with unexpected twists, a dark, gritty atmosphere, and a pull that kept me hooked from the very first page. And that cliffhanger? Brutal. I need book two immediately.

If you like dark romance that keeps you guessing and leaves you craving more, this one delivers. 🖤

This book had potential but the writing was not it for me. The terms bitch and cunt were so overused. It felt like I was reading these words in every other sentence.

The revenge plot was decent but the characters themselves were extremely insufferable. Hopefully the next book will feel more like enemies to lovers.

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this title. All opinions are my own.

The last few chapters actually had me hooked. I might continue. Idk how I feel about Xaden ngl. I have mixed feelings about him. Also the word c*nt was used too many times. It felt like a slow pacing but it still intrigued me.

Puck Around and Find Out is one of those books that I was hesitant to request as an ARC but I am so glad I did, as it was well worth the binge read. This book is truly a book about vengeance, manipulation, with a touch of hockey and a sliver of romance. I devoured this book within hours and I have to say, it wasn't what I expected it to be. AT. ALL.

Xaden is one of the craziest MMC's I have encountered in a book so far and despite how twisted he is, I mean that in a good way. The way that everything he did was for his own self interests was a bit traumatizing. Despite how vengeful, manipulative, and traumatizing he is, I feel that there was a touch of vulnerability when he was with Toren. Like with all good books at the beginning of a series, his arc ended on one hell of a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see what he does in the next book.

Toren is the complete opposite of Xaden. She's got a good group of friends but then a tragedy happens and she is sent away for a year for reasons that weren't exactly clarified in the first book. When she returns, her father basically shuns her, her brother is nonexistent in her life, and all her friends have turned on her for reasons she is unaware of. She finds herself the target of Xaden after enrolling at university and boy does he make her life miserable. Despite what she goes through, she begins to grow fond of Xaden because he is the only one who seems to tell her the truth about what his intentions are, despite how awful they are. I do feel that there were a few moments where Toren could tell Xaden cared for her, but they were short-lived.

Xaden and Toren are truly enemies in this book and the hate that they have for one another initially is extremely warranted. As this is part of a duet, there are many questions that I have regarding what happens to Xaden and Torren and the rest of the characters after the explosive cliffhanger.

When it comes to who I'd recommend this book to, I'd recommend this book to both romance and non-romance readers. While there is "enemies to lovers" vibes in it, this book is definitely mafia themed and one built on vengeance, manipulation, and trauma. My opinion may change on this once the second book comes out. There is some hockey in it, but I'd say that it was maybe 15% of the book and other 85% being about Toren trying to remember what happened that fateful night when tragedy struck and Xaden trying to make Toren's life miserable while also trying to figure out where was for the last year.

In all, this was a 5/5 star read. Because this is a dark mafia romance I'd rate the spice a 2/5. Please note that this book does come with trigger warnings and should be taken into consideration prior to reading.

Thank you Hambright PR and Samatha Barrett for the gifted e-copy. All opinions are my own.

I don’t even know where to start! My mind is just 🤯
If you want a DARK, suspension bully romance (Heavy on the bully) then this book will not disappoint!

This story centers around tragic loss that affects two different friend groups. There is betrayal, revenge plot and an unhinged MMC that will have you questioning your morals.

I could not put this down!

One night.
Three lives lost.
Memories, poof, gone.

Xaden is the heir to the Devlin Cosa Nostra, hockey god and all around bad boy. He is determined to rain hell on everyone involved in the deaths of the people closet to him. This man is UNHINGED, past morally grey approaching morally black. And I was here for it!!

Toren- the sweet naive daddy’s girl princess who unfortunately loses her memories after that fateful night only to be locked away for a year and have her friends and family abandoned her. Her dad and brother are POS’s.

When she finally gets released she thrown into a world she doesn’t stand a chance in. Forced to attend a rival university of her beloved brother and his best friend (her child hood crush) she is literally thrown to wolves that are Xaden and Cas(one of her former friends and ex friend now to her brother)
The amnesia trope keeps the story engages as we try to uncover what really happened that night that series so many lives. Xaden uses Tor for revenge against her brother Masen, her former church Kallen and Tors father. The trauma, grief and guilt is this book was like a sucker punch.

This is one of the most intense bully romances I’ve read! The chemistry between Xaden and Tor despite him supposedly HATING her was Intense!! 🥵

Check your TW because this isn’t for the faint of heart.
The ending?! Holy Hell! I love a plot twist and dang this did not disappoint!

This does end on a cliff hanger and I cannot wait for her next book! I also hope we see more of Cas!

I am telling you, @author.samantha.barrett is the QUEEN of DARK MAFIA! I don't know what she puts in her books, but they consume you and all you want is to devour them!! Puck Around And Find Out is part one of the Devlin Mafia Duet. If you love a dark hockey romance, filled with unhinged mafia, bully men that are completely morally grey, twists and turns that leave questioning everything and angst and chemistry that is so freaking hot, READ THIS BOOK!

These two are brought together by horrible and unimaginable circumstances. One tragic night and several people lost, Toren has lost all memory of what really happened. Xaden… This man is everything that is an alphahole! He is cruel, dark, raw, unforgiving, so angry. He is the definition of a red flag! Toren… This poor girl. She is lost, alone, left by herself to wonder what has happened the last year and WHY everyone has abandoned her. He is convinced she is lying and knows what happened that fateful night. This book takes you on a ROLLERCOASTER of emotions, of wondering what really happened. And I loved watching Toren start standing up for herself, start taking her power back and realizing who really cares. I truly think both herself and Xaden are just two people so deeply hurt and so dearly needing to just be loved! And the push and pull between these two, the angst, the connection when both of them try to fight it. It’s that true fire that burns hot even when it hurts.

Add in all their family and friends and the questions they bring into it all. I am telling you, this book is a ride of every single emotion! And the cliffhanger!!! OMGGGGG! Samantha! We need to know what happens asap!

If you crave dark mafia romance filled with enemies-to-lovers tension, obsessive possessive devotion, damaged and so hurt characters, and dangerous secrets, you HAVE to read this book!

Star: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

Dark, twisted, and emotionally sharp, Puck Around and Find Out pulls you straight into a story where memory is fractured, guilt is heavy, and vengeance wears a devastatingly handsome face.

One night changes everything. Three people are dead. The truth is buried under missing memories, and the only person who knows what really happened is Xaden Devlin. He is ruthless, calculated, and heir to one of the most feared mafia families in town. He is also obsessed with making Toren pay for a crime she cannot remember committing. The tension between them is immediate and suffocating, fueled by cruelty, obsession, and a magnetic pull neither can escape.

The dynamic between Xaden and Toren is deliciously toxic in the best dark romance way. He taunts her, breaks her down, and keeps her close, all while revealing just enough vulnerability to make you question who the real monster is. The nickname “Tink” and the recurring fairytale symbolism add an eerie emotional layer that reinforces the story’s themes of belief, innocence lost, and identity.

What truly stands out is the psychological element. The missing memories create a constant sense of unease, and the slow drip of revelations keeps the suspense tight. As truths about that night, her family, and her connection to Xaden begin to surface, the story shifts from simple revenge to something far more complex and unsettling.

This book thrives on morally gray characters, emotional manipulation, and the kind of chemistry that burns even when it hurts. The cliffhanger ending is brutal and perfectly placed, making this an unputdownable start to the Devlin Mafia Duet.

If you love dark mafia romance with enemies-to-lovers tension, obsessive heroes, damaged heroines, and secrets that refuse to stay buried, Puck Around and Find Out delivers and then leaves you desperate for book

Holy hell… I inhaled this book. Once I started, there was no stopping, I physically could not put down my kindle.

Puck Around and Find Out is a dark, twisted, gut-punch of a Mafia Hockey Romance that left me completely unhinged. If you love vicious rivalries (team vs. team and family vs. family), blackmail, psychological warfare, and soul-crushing heartbreak, congratulations, this is your next obsession.

After one night goes horribly wrong, Toren’s life implodes. Her memories of that night are gone, she’s sent away for a year, and when she returns home, she’s treated like an outcast. Branded a murderer by her own father and brother, Toren is left with nothing, no money, no protection, and no recollection of the crime she’s accused of committing.

Enter Xaden Devlin, heir to a ruthless mafia family and the walking embodiment of revenge. He despises Toren’s family and makes her the centerpiece of his carefully crafted psychological torment. Alongside Caspian, he unleashes a revenge plot so brutal it had me questioning everything.

The dynamic? Deliciously toxic. Xaden taunts her, dismantles her piece by piece… and yet the chemistry is so intense it’s suffocating.

The psychological suspense is immaculate. The missing-memories trope keeps you on edge the entire time, and the slow, agonizing release of truths had me spiraling until the very end. The nickname “Tink” and the dark fairytale symbolism added an eerie, haunting layer that made this story unforgettable.

Tropes You’re Getting: Reminder to read the Trigger Warnings!

Rivals to Lovers / Mafia Corruption
Dark Vengeance & Serial Killer Energy
Forced Proximity & Primal Play
Shattered FMC & Obsessive, Morally Gray MMC

This book thrives in the shadows, morally gray characters, brutal tension, and chemistry that burns even when it hurts. And that ending? One of the most vicious cliffhangers I’ve ever read. I am not okay. Samantha, I am BEGGING for the next part of this duet.

WARNING: Massive cliffhanger. Prepare your heart accordingly. Literally, PREPARE yourself!!

Huge thank you to Hambright PR for the ARC!

A year ago, Toren woke up in the hospital with broken bones and no memory of the past week. When her father and brother come in to her room, they refuse to tell her what happened, or answer any of her questions, and the next thing she knows she finds herself in a facility with no way out. When she is released after a year, her world looks nothing like the one she left behind. She is forced to enroll at the rival college, and forbidden to speak to her brother or any of their friends. Abused and assaulted on her new campus, accused of murder, her brother’s biggest rival takes her under his wing, giving her a safe place to stay, but he makes it clear from the beginning that he will be the only one to ruin her.

Xaden was never meant to take over his father’s mafia legacy, but when tragedy struck, he was left with no choice. Determined to get revenge at all cost, he will stop at nothing to eliminate Toren’s family, even if he has to get close to her to do it. Convinced that Toren intentionally caused the accident that changed his life forever, he doesn’t believe her when she says she has no memories of that night, but the more time he spends with her, the more he realizes she’s telling the truth, only that doesn’t change the fact that she’s to blame, and he will be the only one to end her.

I received an early copy of this book from Hambright PR and I was not ready for this rollercoaster! The author drops just enough breadcrumbs about the past to keep us hooked waiting to see what really happened, and boy does she deliver. In the beginning of the book, Toren is completely broken, and despite his desire to destroy her, somehow Xaden helps her find some of her strength. Despite the despicable things he does to her, he is the only person who doesn’t lie to her telling her repeatedly “believe half of what you hear and all of what you see”, and constantly showing up for her when no one else does. Things definitely aren’t as they seem in this story and the cliffhanger ending has me desperately waiting for book 2 to see what happens next.

ARC review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Puck Around and Find Out is a dark, emotionally jagged romance that leans hard into guilt, memory loss, and the dangerous pull of a man who feels like both punishment and salvation. From the very first page, the story wraps you in grief and confusion and then tightens the knot.

The heroine is drowning in blame she doesn’t remember earning. Three lives lost, friendships shattered, and a past erased in a way that feels crueler than guilt itself. Watching her navigate a world that has already judged her is heartbreaking, especially when everyone seems determined to believe the worst. The amnesia isn’t just a plot device it’s a wound that bleeds through every interaction.

Xaden Devlin is darkness personified: cold, deliberate, and devastatingly alluring. He’s the kind of antihero who knows exactly where to cut and does it with surgical precision. His nickname for her, “Tink,” is cruel and symbolic, reinforcing the story’s themes of belief, truth, and what happens when someone is erased by the people around them. Yet beneath his vengeance is a truth he carries alone, and the slow reveal of what he knows and why keeps the tension razor sharp.

The chemistry between them is toxic, magnetic, and impossible to look away from. Every taunt feels loaded. Every interaction hums with secrets and restrained emotion. As truths about the past begin to surface, the story shifts from revenge to something far more complex grief, protection, and a connection forged in shared loss.

Puck Around and Find Out is a moody, angsty read that thrives in the gray space between villain and savior. If you love dark romance with morally complex characters, emotional pain, and a slow unspooling of devastating truths, this book will absolutely hook you especially in the quiet, dangerous hours after midnight. 🖤🔥

This book grabbed me by the throat and did not let go. Puck Around and Find Out is dark, messy, emotional chaos in the absolute best way, and I devoured every page like my life depended on it.

One night. Three lives lost. A girl with no memories and the whole town sharpening their knives. From the very first chapter I felt unsettled, like something was humming under the surface, waiting to snap. And then there’s Xaden Devlin. The devil in a beautiful package, dripping vengeance, secrets, and pain. The way he calls her Tink? Cruel. Intimate. Twisted. I hated it. I loved it. I wanted to scream every time he opened his mouth.

The push and pull between them is intoxicating. She’s broken, blamed, haunted by holes in her own mind. He knows the truth and uses it like a weapon. Every interaction felt loaded, sharp, emotionally brutal, and I was glued to the page trying to piece together what really happened that night. The reveals come slow and painful, and when they hit, they HIT.

And then… Toren and Xander. Holy. Fuck. I was not prepared. I loved loved Toren and Xander with my whole soul. They added so much tension, depth, and “what the hell is going to happen next” energy that my brain still hasn’t recovered.

That ending though. Excuse me SAMANTHA. 😮😮😮😮😮
I just sat there staring at the wall, emotionally wrecked, betrayed, thrilled, and already feral for book 2. Everything flipped. Everything hurt. Everything made sense and also absolutely did not.

This book is dark romance done right. Twisted, emotional, layered, and addictive. If you like morally grey men, broken heroines, secrets that rot from the inside out, and endings that leave you unwell… read this immediately. I cannot WAIT for book 2.

I will def be re reading this one

Puck Around and Find Out, by Samantha Barrett, is the first book in the Devlin Mafia Duet.
I devoured this book, and boy is it dark. Some may call it a dark romance, but romance was not on the table, spice, there was that, but I wouldn’t call this a romance. Please be sure to check the trigger warnings, as there are a lot of sensitive topics throughout the book.
Toren, our FMC, has amnesia after a car accident, and no one will tell her what happened and everyone she loves has abandoned her. I felt for her from the very beginning of this book, she was so alone. Then her father, who won’t say but a few words to her, dumps her at college of their rivals. She doesn’t know what is going on, and because of that, we, the readers don’t either. It was a great tactic by the author and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book. I was able to piece a few things together but was still shocked by the end.
Then there is Xaden, the MMC, he is a total prick and has red flags for days. He is using Toren to get in her brother and father’s heads, and it does the trick. He is honest with her the entire time, and even if that honesty is frightening, she finds herself falling for him because he is the only person that is telling her the truth.
Slowly some of her memories come back and the truth is pieced together. This book ends on a massive cliffhanger that I am still reeling from. I cannot wait for book two, it will be a must read for me. I cannot wait to see what happens next in Toren and Xaden’s story.
The only negative things about the book would be the inter monologue can be repetitive at times and the use of the word “cunt” is extensive.

No words.. I have literally no words.

This is one of the most intense enemies to lovers dark romance I have ever read, and that says a lot because a read a shit ton of enemies to lovers. Like the hatred is just off the charts, like the man genuinely loathes her to the fact that he was worried he wouldn’t be able to hide his disgust the first time they did it.

This book is so super dark so check your warnings, and out fmc is a VERY unreliable narrator because she lost her memories. The plot of this book was rooted in suspense, she’s lost her memories and is trying to figure out what actually happened the night she was sent to an asylum that made everyone hate her. However, the truth can often be very very ugly and curiosity kills the cat…this book proved these statements very fucking true. The plot twists in this book are insane, and honestly everyone including Xaden was terribly tricked.

Next their chemistry is just insane, it’s a revenge plot. Xaden basically uses and manipulates her to piss off her brother, who is his rival on the rink and in every other way. And minor spoiler but this includes giving him the bedsheets stained with her virgin blood after their first fvck…. So believe me when I say this man is the definition of unhinged.

However the saddest thing was how she was falling for it.. my heart broke for her and I cried so many damn times. This book had me in a chokehold from start to finish and that cliffhanger still has me stunned right now. I can’t wait for this next book, like literally need it like now. I give it a 5/5

This is different than anything I’ve read by the author, and I loved it!

Toren is just your average college girl ready to make it on her own with her best friend and her brother when tragedy struck but she couldn’t remember what happened. Now a year later, she’s out of the special ward for rich families and ready to be a student again. Enter Xaden, a hockey player who also seems to have it out for her. Turns out, it’s maybe with good reason. But also not, as she’s not her father or brother or involved in their world. But the more Toren learns, the more she wishes she would forget. But just as her memories all come back and she learns the truth, she’s ripped from the world she knows once again.

This is book one of a duet and leaves off on a cliffhanger.

There are many red flags here, so please check your warnings before diving into this book.

I loved how Toren just wanted the truth and no one would tell her! I do wonder who decided to lie to Toren more, her dad or her brother and what they gave her to forget a whole week of time. I have to wonder too, if Caspian knew what happened fully, or if he was fed the public story as well and just learned the truth with Toren at the end. It will be interesting to see if the next book picks up where this one leaves off or if there will be a time jump. I can’t wait to see how Xander reconciles how he’s felt about Toren and her family with how he’s feeling about her now.

I received an advance review copy from Hambright PR and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow. Just wow. I ate this up in one sitting. I abandoned everything I was supposed to do today and sat on my couch and ate this up.

Ok, so I will say at first I thought it was so bizarre that Toren was never told what happened. You would think the year she spent “away,” that if she was supposed to be learning a lesson they would be telling her what she did. You realize more towards the end the why of this.

I also thought it was weird how everyone just hated her after what happened but then again, I’ve never been there so who knows.

Xaden is unhinged in the craziest of ways. Man, I love him and his honestly. The whole book I was like “there’s no way he’s gonna go through with this plan” but I knew he would and I had to get to it. Not sure how Toren fell for it but I probably would’ve slept with him anyways too😂 Ugh, I do like my MMCs in an enemies to lovers to have some hatred for themselves for liking the FMC but he had none of that. He truly hated her. I do wish we get him saying things in book 2 like “I hate how much I like her” or “I hate how much I want her”🫠

That cliffhanger though. Brutal as someone reading this as a ARC with no book 2 date announced lol. But I mean, I live for the cliffhangers too so 😂😂

MINDBLOWING !!!
Holy ish…. Devoured this within a few hours… once I started I couldn’t put the book down !!

It was DARK, TWISTED, GUT WRENCHING, MAFIA HOCKEY ROMANCE.

I loved the aspect of two hockey team rivalries, family rivalry’s, blackmail, emotional torture, and lots of heartbreak.

After a friend’s night out goes terribly wrong, this group of friends lives is forever destroyed. Toren loses her memories of the night, ends up being sent away for over a year, with no access to social media or a phone. She returns home, only to have her father and brother send her off college at a different school and have nothing to do with her, no access to money or anything, basically shunning her. While everyone around her deems her “murderer” only she remembers nothing.

Enter Xaden - the devil himself. Who hates her family and her brother. & has made it his mission to seek out revenge for what she and her family have done. Along with his friend Caspien decide to take this revenge plot into their own hands and make her question life, her family, them, and the truth.

Leading to the biggest revelation I’ve EVER been left hanging on the brink of.

Samantha I am DYING FOR THE NXT PART OF THIS BOOK !!

Well, Samantha did it again! I was completely hooked at the very beginning. One night, three people are killed, and a blackout occurs that becomes a complete nightmare. I couldn't stop reading. Each chapter was a vice choking my heart, and I needed the truth as oxygen.

And Xaden Devlin… oh man. Dude is the devil in a very handsome package. Cold, mean, everything about revenge. You know you ought to run, but you only keep coming closer. 😈 He calls her "Tink"? Deviant, violent, yet strangely compulsive. That verse of fairies dying when no one believes? Slap and a promise, all in one.

Their push-pull was crude fire, the insults, the tension, the chemistry that crackles so loudly you can hear it. And that sickening, stomach-sinking feeling that you get when you realize that the monster may not be what everyone thinks it is.

The revelations were endless, the facts were even more ugly, and at the end, I was like, wait. Am I cheering the devil or the villain? 🖤 Since this is a story that leaves you wondering about everything: that night, her family, him, her, and the truth about them.

Dark, emotional, binge-worthy, and sharp-toothed in the best sense. You like secrets, obsession, and that what the hell actually happened? feeling, grab it. I LOVED it. 🔥📚

Well Ms Samantha Barrett. That was a master piece - truly. Within the first few chapters I was completely hooked. I’ve never had so many “what just happened” in a good way in a book! Some of the pieces started clicking into place toward the end but I never saw that ending coming.

The book starts with Toren, her best friend, KennaDee, her brother, Masen, and his best friend, Kellen at a party. While at the party they make a mysterious pact. Next thing we know, Toren has woken up from a traumatic incident that she can’t remember and she’s sent to a home while she rehab’s from her injuries. She hasn’t heard from her family or friends in months and has no clue why. Her father shows up to drop her off at her new college which happens to be right where she seems to be hated most.

Xaden, son of a Mafia leader, is hell-bent on getting his revenge on Toren through psychological and physical torment. While we don’t immediately understand why he hates her and her family, it’s very clear that the hate runs deep.

Toren’s anguish in determining what happened on that fateful night keeps the pages and mind turning. It’s very rewarding watching her solve the puzzles and after that cliffhanger I’m definitely ready for book 2!

What I. The world just happened!?

Toren has suffered quite a lot & sadly at the hands of those she thought cared for her. And when a tragic accident happens leaving her missing time & then locked up for a year, she’s left contemplating what her life will be like now that she’s out.

But having her father ship her off to school then warn her to ignore her brother & his friends & ignore anything that isn’t school/class related has her second guessing everything.

That is until she meets Xaden. He is hell bent on avenging those who were hurt because of her. And he makes it know right away that his plans for her involve nothing but pain.

But the more she spends around him, the more some truths start to slip out leaving her even more perplexed.

I had a feeling her friend Emery was a key to some of those truths as well as her family & the boy she had a crush on for the longest time, Kellan.

Then those final chapters left me utterly confused & angry & even more confused. That flip for Kellan had me mad. And the revelations from her family & Xaden’s dad…even madder.

I was not expecting that ending & now I just want to know what happens next.

Great job!

Not your typical hockey/mafia romance!!! This one is dark and dirty, and I was here for every word of it!!!

From the first cocky smirk, this book hits with that combo of alpha energy + unhinged chemistry. The banter is sharp enough to draw blood, the tension simmers forever (in the best way), and when things finally snap? 🥵 Yeah. Clear your schedule. Hydrate. Maybe sit down.

The MMC is pure “you shouldn’t want him, but you absolutely do” energy, Xaden is just feral. And the FMC? She doesn’t know which side is up, (thanks to her accident) but Toren pushes back, which makes every interaction crackle. Their dynamic feels raw, messy, and real, not polished or safe.

And let’s talk spice:
This one is confident, and indulgent. The scenes are unapologetically hot, but they’re never just thrown in. They are powered by emotion, and that I-shouldn’t-want-you-like-this desperation. Criminal. 🔥

What really seals the deal is that beneath all the heat, there’s heart and the ultimate betrayal. Barrett sneaks in character depth and emotional payoff that makes the sex hit harder and the betrayal heartbreaking. The cliffhanger is something I need to have remedied immediately!!!

Wow. This book had me saying wtf throughout the whole thing! This is my first read from this author, and I definitely want to read more. I also am already ready for book 2 because I need to know what happens next!

Toren, our FMC, this poor girl has been through it. After an accident she is left not knowing what happened due to memory loss, everybody keeping secrets from her, and the people she expected to be there have abandoned her. A year later and she is dumped on college campus, on the wrong side mind you, and she is trying so hard to pick up all of the broken pieces, but the more she learns the more broken she becomes. The girl does NOT give up though!

Xaden, our MMC, is pretty unhinged. He is dark and broody and out for revenge and Toren is key to his plan. Their relationship is absolutely toxic. He is part of one of the most powerful mafia families in town and he wants Toren to pay. He is also Toren's brothers' arch nemesis and hockey rival.

I flew through this book and it kept me hooked in wanting to know what the heck was going on. There was so much tension and chaos that you never knew what was going to happen next, so many secrets, and the ending...wow! Can't wait for the next book!

Holy CRUD this book kept me guessing the entire flipping time. I needed to know what happened that night for Toren and the suspense just kept suspensing. At times, I thought I knew what was going to happen but then I found out I had no idea. Also, can we talk about that CLIFFHANGER??? How am I supposed to go on without knowing…

One night, three lives lost, and Toren has no memory of what happened. She wakes up in the hospital, brutally broken, with no recollection of how she got there. As soon as she is stable, she is shipped off with no explanation. Fast forward one year, she is dropped off on the enemy’s territory only further confused.

Xaden, he is disgusted by her and everything she stands for. He wants her as a trophy; one he can use to dismember his enemy. He calls her Tink, because fairies die when no one believes in them…

~Puck Around And Find Out~Devlin Mafia Book 1~Samantha Barrett~

"I not only live with the devil, I let him inside me and allowed him to burrow himself under my skin and use me for his own gain. I dug my own fucking grave without knowing it."

♡Sometimes I think to myself "Maybe you aren't color blind & can definitely see the color red.." Now I'm asking myself what a red flag looks like because my brain screams "RED FLAG" & my heart is screaming back "NOOOO IT'S GREEN!" Xaden Devlin will have you fighting your morals one minute & wondering why on earth you're swooning for him the next minute. Talk about an emotional roller-coaster ride I never want to end!

This story had me hooked from beginning to end & after that wild cliffhanger I can't wait to see what's in store for book 2 because I need more like I need air!

If you love dark m@fia romance books that put you through emotional whiplash but leave you begging for more look no further!♡

Quoting author Samantha Barrett, “Well f*** me sideways…” and honestly, that perfectly captures how I felt about this book.
From the very first page, I was completely hooked. The opening grabbed me instantly, and I knew right away this was going to be a five-star read. By the time I finished, I wished I could rate it even higher.
The writing was flawless. The descriptions were so vivid and immersive that I could easily picture every scene like a movie playing in my head. The pacing was perfect, the tension kept building, and the story pulled me in deeper with every chapter. This is the kind of book that would translate beautifully to the screen—I could absolutely see it as a show or film.
Be warned: it does end on a cliffhanger, and now I’m impatiently waiting for book two! Even with all the red flags flying throughout the story, I’m completely invested in these characters and rooting hard for them.
Gripping, addictive, and impossible to put down—this book left me desperate for more.
Highly recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ COMPLETELY BLACK

Puck Around and Find Out by Samantha Barrett absolutely wrecked me—in the best way. I LOVED this. Xaden was dark, demented, unapologetically vengeful, and I was 1000% here for every unhinged second of it. His need for revenge was intense and deliciously brutal, and I couldn’t look away.

Toren broke my heart at first. Watching her be everyone’s pawn, constantly manipulated and used, hurt—but her growth? Chef’s kiss. Seeing her finally find her spine and start standing up for herself was so satisfying and empowering.

This book was black. Like pitch-black, morally gray, messy, and emotional, and I ate it up. The mystery surrounding everyone’s secrecy, the buried past, and the deep-rooted hatred kept me hooked the entire time. Every reveal added another layer, and the twists had me second-guessing everything.

It was angsty, twisty, and emotionally charged with a constant undercurrent of tension. If you love dark romance with revenge, mystery, and characters who live in the gray, this one delivers hard. I loved every single second.

This book is a welcome return to mafia for the queen!

Toren has her whole life ahead of her. Her best friend, her brother, the one she loves. But then she wakes up in the hospital with no clue how she got there, and no one giving her answers.

After a year away she’s thrusted back into college, but this side on “the wrong side of the tracks”. She’s been thrown into the wolf den with no defense. Nothing could have prepared her when details start emerging about the night everything changed.

Xaden hates Toren and her family with every fiber of his being, and when he comes up with the perfect revenge plan he has to suck it up and allow her close to him. He never hides who he is, and is the only one that is being honest with her - as honest as he can be.

Who wins the battle of wills- the god of death or his fairy? Who comes out on top in the end, or do they both wind up more lost than they started?
