After a few lacklustre books in the Nina Wilde & Eddie Chase series, I wasn’t expecting The Shroud of Hades to stand out. But I’m glad to say it really surprised me. This one reminded me why I enjoyed the series in the first place. It’s a return to form: fast-paced, outrageous in all the right ways, and just plain entertaining.

What made this one so good was the energy. It felt like McDermott had fun writing it. Eddie was his usual sarcastic self, Nina did what she does best (dive headfirst into danger and being an utter pain in the neck), and the plot just kept ticking with barely a moment to breathe. Begrudgingly, I give it five stars, as not even Nina's horrible personality could ruin it for me. Mmm... make that 4.5 stars.

Honestly, it’s one of the better ones in the series.

Nina Wilde is back. Which can only mean two things - so is her husband Eddie and a madcap globe spanning adventure involving a mystical treasure is fast approaching.

This is typical Wilde and Chase affair, sure there’s nothing new or groundbreaking in this one but it’s a riotous affair full of intelligent action and fast-paced adventure. It’s balls to the wall throughout, blink and you’ll have missed some frenetic fight or chase. But it’s what sets this series apart from others and the historical overlays continually elevate the story.

This was a blast, I was only saddened there wasn’t more to it, but as it is I’ll wait for Nina and Eddie to return once more.

Very disappointing to me.

I have read every book in the series for the last 20 years and found this one not up to what I expect. The first half of the book is just running from people trying to kill Nina because of a computer program promising two billion dollars to whoever can.
It's not until the second half that the hunt for the shroud begins and ,to me, starts to read like a Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase adventure and not like an amateur crime novel.
I have enjoyed all of the books in this series until this one. I have a!ways looked forward to the next book coming out, but not any longer.

We find a million dollar bounty put on Nina’s head which is all part of a revenge plot. It becomes clear that for a billion dollars you can’t even trust your friends. After a few close escapes and a side trip to find the shroud of hades Nina ends up in a series of challenges that are designed to prove she isn’t as smart as she believes she is, and that the billionaire Rafael Luts can get his revenge from beyond the grave (as an AI avatar).

This is more straight up action with a little bit of the archeological story, but still a fast paced ride with all of the usual witty one liners and Eddie madness.

Andy McDermott is the master of action thrillers and The Shroud of Hades is no exception. From the first until the last chapter the reader is on a rollercoaster ride. Would you kill someone for a billion dollars? What happens if your name is Nina Wilde and you are the target of every person in the world? Highly recommended.

Had a break from this genre of book ive had this one on my TBR for over a year and with the newest release last week I thought id better pick up the series again and it did not disappoint! I struggled with the start of the book, with a carry on of The Knights of Atlantis and the weirdo trillionaire who set up UZZ social media. It took a while to get into, but picked up pace, to a satisfying ending.

The plots are getting thinner, the chases, be it car or snow mobile or indeed the protagonists are getting dafter. There's a definite downward trend in the last few books.

Eddie and Nina are being chased down by anyone who wants the bounty for catching and killing Nina. Just when their last adversary was thought dead, his AI version seems to be alive and out for revenge. Not so much Macy in this one as the pair try to stay one step ahead and also look for another relic called the Shroud of Hades. Good fun

Not my favorite. First half was a lot of running away from people. The idea behind why they had to run was interesting but not really why I read these books. 2nd half much better.

This is a welcome return to form, and I think by now it's pretty obvious that less Macy equals a better book.

The Shroud of Hades does feel like it's less about the hunt for the shroud and more about Nina and Eddie trying to escape the incessant manhunt for them by anyone and everyone, but the regular pell-mell action and the somewhat Bond-ish sequence with the snowmobiles feels much more like the earlier books.

Never tiring of these adventures

I always enjoy reading Nina and Eddy’s adventures. Andy McDermott is one of my go-to authors for fun adventures.

During 2020, I found that I needed more fun novels in my life and that is when I reconnected with Andy’s novels. Now I’m caught back up and waiting for the next release.
