A thrilling novel set in the style of Sleeping Giants meets the gods of Olympus when a shadow war between powerful intelligence contractors threatens global power.
Achilles is dead. Helen has vanished. And Zeus still reigns-his power sustained by igniting a shadow war between the nation's top intelligence and defense contracting companies. How did it come to this? And what truths have been buried to protect those at the top?
Homer, a justice-driven criminal investigator, is determined to uncover truth. His Muse, a brilliant intelligence analyst and contractor who may be the only one capable of decoding the lies spun by warlords, governments, and the ghosts of fallen legends.
In a work structured to look and read like a classified debriefing transcript, Operation Trojan War thrusts an ancient saga into the world of modern covert operations, private military corporations, and crumbling allegiances. In a high-stakes game of secrets and power, the question Who will risk everything to expose the truth-and hold the gods of our age accountable?
Where Greek mythology collides with modern warfare, one operative holds the key to unraveling a legacy of betrayal.
I had the opportunity of reading an ARC copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This book’s style in the end was not quite my vibe, but it totally will be for others! Great read for those interested in military operations, who are really not keen on “fluffier” details you may find in traditional fiction novels.
At times, I did find the matter in which exposition was communicated a bit repetitive, with Homer asking a question, Muse telling him he’s asking the wrong question, then we get new info, but this is to be expected with the format of the book
Thank you for this advance copy on Netgalley - 4.5 stars. The illiad but not as you know it. An interesting take on the trojan war, remaining what it would be like if it took place today. Our "gods" and "heroes" are celebrities, the rich and famous, politicians, influencers. It was certainly original and a one of a kind remaining!
In fanfiction terms, I would define this as a modern military AU stylized as a case log with the information presented in the form of transcripts between ‘Homer’ and ‘Muse’. Some attachments are made to the log with case notes to add context where applicable - for example: attachment 2 was used to define terms.
I enjoyed both of the point of view characters. Homer is a detective charged with investigating ‘Operation Trojan War’ and Muse is an intelligence operative supplying information to Homer in exchange for a plea deal. Homer was casual yet professional, and that allowed the transcript to feel like a real conversation instead of an episode of Law & Order. Muse could come off as a bit expository, but that’s the job.
If you enjoy true crime and Greek mythology, I would highly recommend this.
Thank you to NetGalley, Indigo River Publishing and Justin I. Paquette for the copy of Operation Trojan War in exchange for an honest review. As someone who love Greek Mythology, this book intrigued me. This is a retelling of Homer’s the Illiad but in modern times told though an interrogation style format. Homer is a detective interviewing Muse about what happened. I had a good time with this quick read. Many times I felt the book could be for a younger audience because the writing was straight forward. When describing all the actors, I did find myself chuckle or smile with the modern day descriptions.
I really wanted to like this. The concept is so interesting, and anything Greek Mythology inspired is right up my alley. But this was just unfortunately incredibly boring. It didn't do anything new or fresh enough with the mythos, and the repetitive nature of narrating through the interview got very old very fast. It just made "Homer" out to be a passive idiot, which doesn't work if he's meant to be an investigator.
Incredibly well written; Operation Trojan War is a modern retelling of a classic tale, set in the format of a transcript of a top secret/classified debriefing.
