The Witch's Pet

Rate this book
They’re giving her to the Witch.
Devil, monster, enemy of God.

Shackled by the chains that lock around her head, Pandora has always been confined within the kingdom behind the Wall. The tales of what lay beyond were merely stories—dark fairy tales designed to keep them trapped there.
But when those tales turn into her nightmare, she’s offered as a symbolic sacrifice, a final punishment for the darkness marring her soul.

Pandora isn’t the only one being punished.

Prince Sitri has no desire for a bride, least of all his enemy—garbed like a holy maiden from another century. Tasked with the burden of watching over this stubborn, naive outsider he takes the role of her reluctant protector. Locking her away in his chambers like an unwanted pet, he insists it’s the only way to keep her safe in a kingdom that would prefer to see all those who lack magic dead.

Pandora fights to break free. Yet when strange new desires begin compelling her toward her captor instead of away, she knows his magic must be the culprit, manipulating her very will. Battling to retain control, she slowly works to unravel the mystery as to why she’s been sentenced a plot to humiliate him and tarnish his bloodline. But for every secret she uncovers, her own darkness grows harder to contain.

I didn’t enjoy this experience.

I always lead with a cheating warning, especially since I didn’t it in a CW.

I. Hate. The misunderstanding trope. At exactly 12% in we’re already leaning on it. When someone brutally murders ‘children’ in front of you, the appropriate response is “why the fuck did you just murder those children?!?” It is 1000% unrealistic for this to become a misunderstanding for more than 15 seconds.

No sane person would marry someone (that they know has been secluded her whole life) and not have one single conversation about.. anything. It’s not human nature. And that’s coming from the world’s biggest introvert.

At 15% her *husband* brought a girl home to fuck. That is cheating. She has no opportunity to do the same and it’s cruel. My definition of cheating is any sexual activity that happens outside of the MCs (this includes kissing) after a commitment is made. A marriage is a serious fucking commitment. If the author made it some sort of weird plot device and it’s not real.. that’s on her. It makes the character irredeemable. How do I know all these 5 star reviews are ARC? Because I’m not the only reader who would have a huge problem with this.

How do I know none of the other reviews mentioned this? Because I read them all. I specifically search through reviews to look for a cheating warning in the event that it isn’t in the CW. I did my due diligence.

Automatic DNF

Edit: I’ve had someone point out that they disagree with my definition of cheating, and while I normally wouldn’t really care, my comment is towards the top for this book and I want to be as fair as possible for a newer author. I’ve already provided my personal definition for cheating, but I’ll provide more details regarding the plot. So, spoilers.

The FMC is forcibly married to the MMC. She’s been in an isolated cult-like community her whole life and doesn’t have a reference of understanding for anything. The guy is an ass from the start but she grows to like him during their ride home, though the aforementioned misunderstandings get in the way. She is then locked in his rooms alone. He’s her only company. She’s incredibly insecure and confused. He then brings a girl into those rooms and has sex with her while the FMC has to sit and listen. Both he and the OW say cruel things about the FMC.

This was a painful trigger and I wish I hadn’t read it. Thats why I’m providing the info in a review.

But if your definition of cheating is based on how extensive the personal relationship is, this scene might not bother you. They haven’t known each other long and have not had sex with one another. If there had not been a marriage I would not have considered it cheating at this point in the story.

For me, empathizing with the FMC, the marriage itself set certain expectations, none of which were clarified for her. She is expecting to have sex with him. She is in a situation where she can’t go seek that support from anyone else. He is the only person who she could remotely consider to be on her side. The betrayal of that in such a blatant way definitely set my emotions off.

Okay, I don't know what I was expecting from this book, but it certainly wasn't pulling an all-nighter getting so caught up that I just had to finish this dark fairytale. Think enemies-to-lovers with ridiculously hot chemistry and a world that feels both whimsical and a little bit dangerous.
Pandora first comes off as a meek and timid FMC due to where she lived and how she grew up(think convent lifestyle with the addition of her face being covered from the public since she turned 12) —she appears quiet, reluctant, kind of sweet—but once her personality really started to shine through? I was hooked. She’s got that hidden fire I love in a fantasy FMC. And Sitri… don’t even get me started. He’s smooth, sarcastic, low-key deadly, but also totally the type to go feral if someone even thinks about hurting her. Classic “touch her and die” energy, and I was absolutely HERE for every bit of it.
Their TRUE slow burn romance had me losing my mind. One minute I’m giggling, kicking my feet at the banter and the longing looks, the next I’m willing them to " KISS ALREADY.” The banter? So sharp and fun. I couldn’t get enough of them.
But it’s not just the romance. The worldbuilding is so well done and doesn't leave you overwhelmed. Loved how the spells were made with little hand gestures & the potion brewing (cauldron and all) brought a proper witchy feel. It’s dark, magical, and just the right amount of creepy in places. (Yes, you Bonewalker)
Honestly, I flew through it in one night - I will choose this book over getting sleep. Every. Single. Time!!
If you’re into enemies-to-lovers with the slowestttt of slow burns that leaves you feeling every bit of tension and a cool fantasy world that actually feels magic, then The Witches Pet by @authorkerridandrews is a must.

Easy 5🌟
I need book two immediately.

The author announced that there are plans for 4 books in this series, and I can not explain how happy this makes me 😭😭 can't wait to be reunited with Sitri & Pandora 💖

I feel so betrayed by the other reviews for this book, so here is my take. This book is great if you enjoy....

1. CHEATING 😍- literally 12% into the book the MMC brings a girl into his room and has to walk past the FMC whom he just married and takes the girl into his bedroom. The FMC the entire time can hear them as they are having sex. The MMC claims that he “forgot” that the FMC was there, but I have an extremely hard time believing this considering that the MMC views his marriage to the FMC as a huge shame and punishment. You’re telling me that the MMC could not have gone into any other room on that floor (which by the way we learn are all COMPLETELY EMPTY)?

2. MISCOMMUNICATION 🥰- this entire book is just one massive miscommunicationon repeat. On multiple occasions in this book the MMC will not fully explain some thing to the FMC to her detriment. Rightfully being very scared and confused and not fully aware of what’s happening to her, the FMC will act out and the MMC will get very mad. Drama ensues, and the MMC will then eventually finally explain the situation fully and they make up again. Now just imagine that happening on repeat for the whole book.

3. NOT slow burn, but WHIPPLASH ☺️- These two characters go hot/cold between each other literally sentences apart. There is no real tension/buildup just very juvenile hot/cold interactions. One second "ooh he’s so handsome", then the next second he is degrading her and being rude. So cute!!

4. NO CRITICAL THINKING 🤭 (spoiler alert ahead)- early on in the book the FMC does something with an imp that requires magic. And the MMC says something stupid like "I didn't think noughts (non magical folks) could do that". The FMC does something with a potion that ALSO requires magic, the MMC again stupidly wonders "wow how did you do that". In a ritual where people with compatible MAGIC are compelled to one another, the MMC is confused when he is drawn to the FMC!!! Hello! if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…

5. VERY LITTLE PLOT DEVOPMENT/ WORLD BUILDING 😘- if you want to read a book that is essentially 90% of two very juvenile and immature characters miscommunicating, and disrespecting one another this book is for you! No need to know about the world or the plot at all!

This was so freaking good! I lovvvvve both MC’s, and the environment is the perfect gothic vibe.

Pandora enters into a marriage with a witch to align her kingdom (which is full of holier-than-thou, religiously devout assholes) with the witches in a peace treaty. But she goes in to the marriage under the guise that she’s her sister Syra.

When she marries the witch, now she is stuck in a place she feared her whole life, which the witches she’s had nightmares about since childhood… but maybe she’s even scarier than them?!

Pandora is a bad ass, though she’s completely oblivious to our MMC Sitri’s affections, and sometimes she’s a bit naive.

Sitri is a really refreshing MMC, he’s in touch with his emotions, but still really sarcastic and banter-y.

This premise is a bit more romance forward but the plot was still really great, and I am soooo anxious for book 2 because I am sus of everyone lmao.

Also this book blueballs you to holy hell.

4.25 stars, a great time was had!

**ARC Review**

This book didn’t just tug at my heartstrings—it ripped them out, set them on fire, and then handed them back with a smirk like, “You’re welcome.” The FMC, Pandora, is a shy little gremlin with the soul of a sarcastic goddess. One minute she’s blushing, the next she’s verbally drop-kicking a man across dimensions, and honestly? I would die for her. I have died for her. Spiritually.

Then there’s Sitri. SITRI. This man shows up like, “I’ve never had a feeling in my life,” and then immediately proceeds to develop 47 of them—all for Pandora. He’s the human equivalent of “I hate everyone but you,” with the emotional depth of a tragic backstory and the physical presence of a Calvin Klein fever dream. He’s awful. I want him. She deserves better. They belong together. I’m conflicted and I like it.

And those little moments between them? Sir. Ma’am. Whoever wrote this—are you okay?? I was reading like it was foreplay for my central nervous system. They’d brush hands and suddenly I’m fanning myself like a Southern auntie on a porch in July. Their chemistry is so potent I’m surprised the pages didn’t spontaneously combust in my hands.

AND NOW. The true chaos: I have never, in all my days, rooted so hard for two MCs to just get naked and deal with their issues carnally. The tension?? PALPABLE. I was sitting there like, “Y’all could solve so many of your problems by aggressively making out.”

If you’re into enemies-to-lovers-to-I-will-strangle-you-while-secretly-wanting-to-kiss-you, this book is your next religious experience. Read it. Let it ruin you. Let’s scream about it together at 2AM!

I did end up finishing this book and I thought overall it was ok. I wasn't a big fan of the ending and I felt some scenes were repetitive.

Miscommunication plus cheating is a NO for me. I feel like this had a good premise and I enjoyed the first 60 pages or so but I won’t be continuing.

I’m trying to put into worlds how much I loved this book. It was seriously unlike anything I have read in a long time. Like the magic? Out of this world. The characters? I wanted to crawl into this book and watch them from the bushes, that’s how obsessed I was with them. The world building? One word: Perfection. This is a true dark romance with dark themes and situation, so please check your triggers!

I’m trying to wrap my head around how not only how I finished this book in a day, but how it ends. LIKE HOW COULD IT JUST END? I could have easily read 1500 more pages of the banter with Pandora and Sitri. I honestly could give you an overview of this book and tell you about the plot and how amazing it was, but I think the best way is to go in a little blind, well of course read the synopsis, then read the book and fall in love with the characters the way I did, and ya girl fell HARD for them. Pandora is someone who wants to be so strong, but is so broken in so many ways. She has been beaten down to the point of putting everyone at an arms length to make sure no one gets close to her. And Sitri comes blazing in, like the stubborn ass he is and has to break all her walls down. I mean like COME ON. *Swoon*

This book had me dying of laughter, to absolutely hating Sitri with a burning passion, then having my heart broken and silently crying into my kindle because of how frustratingly perfect these two are for one another. I cannot even begin to explain how much I loved this book and will absolutely obsess over it until the next book comes out. I need everyone to read it, love it, and devour it the way I did. Even though I read this on my kindle I will be purchasing the physical book because not only do I love the cover, but it needs to be added to the trophy case as well.

Tropes:

Arranged marriage
Unique magic system
Slowest of slow burns
“Who did this to you?”
He’s morally gray, but lights up for her
Touch her and die
He calls her “Pet”
They both have secrets
He braids her hair
Forced proximity
He would burn the world for her

"They made a monster out of me."

2.5 stars

This was the most confounding book I've ever read. There's a kernel of an good premise here, and I found the character and dynamics interesting (up to a certain point) but I felt like I was reading a first draft? There's no way this book was edited, there were syntax mistakes and repetitions in the narration and dialogue that made it feel like no one read over it before publishing.

I did carry on reading because I liked the premise and the dynamic between Pandora and Sitri--I enjoy situations where two lonely characters are forced together and grow to care about each other. Their interactions got very frustrating at some point though because it felt like Pandora did not get things that were extremely obvious, dare I say explictly spelled out to her, like the fact that Sitri had to treat her differently in front of others to protect her. Towards the end when they're fully romantic the forced miscommunication was extremely annoying because he was extremely clear in the things he did and said and she was still like "omg but what if...", like come on!! I was done!!

Also Sitri's internal dialogue and narration felt like a teenage girl was speaking, not a grown, supposedly powerful, man. The writing did not reflect the character at all, it was very odd. They also both snarl and growl about a million times a page. Another thing I found weird is that this is set in 2023 but it's an almost medieval setting, with kingdoms and castles? I found it unnecessary to state the year, it was so jarring,

The ending sucked so badly, there was no cliffhanger or tension to it. I was considering a 3 stars before that but it was so awful I had to round down the rating. Apparently this is gonna be a 4 book series, but I'm definitely not reading the rest, lol.

It starts off strong, builds towards an unbelievable first dramatic moment (the union of two people who do not want to be wed to one another)… and then it just sizzles. Dialogue is full of wit, drama, and painful truths. The banter here is second to none.

The author has done an amazing job giving readers two characters with fully realized hopes, dreams, and nightmares. They clash against each other until literally the last page. It makes for a great tense read of “will they? won’t they? who’s going to die next?”

If I had a complaint, it would be that the two main characters spend a lot of time in his chambers bantering, and not enough time out in the world. Whenever they’re around other characters, or getting off on adventures, they both come alive. This book sets up a great number of plot threads that remain dangling dangerously off the forest trail… it is my hope that the rest of the series gets the two characters off the the couch and out into the world.

Occasionally, a book comes along that breaks your heart and then pieces it back together and leaves you with a book hangover – that book, was this one for me. The Witch’s Pet is a story I’m going to keep returning to, again and again and again, because it was everything, and has all the elements of a masterpiece. I loved this book so much; it wasn’t only one of my favourite reads, but one of my top reads of 2025! You will fall head over heels for Sitri and Pandora, and you won’t be able to put this book down (even when you finish it, you’ll keep flipping through the pages because you'll need to know more). Fabulous writing and excellent storytelling, a phenomenal first book in a series I can’t wait to read more of. I highly recommend it to all fantasy and romance readers.

Spice: 🌶️

This was so freaking good! The banter between the two MC’s was top tier. This is a romantasy that is definitely focused on the romance. There is plot, but I felt like there wasn’t much of it until the 80% mark. I loved the romance in this, and the MMC felt unique compared to others in romantasies.

This is a dark gothic romantasy. Our FMC is a human and has been shrouded since she was 12 years old. Her kind lives behind a wall that separates them from the witches. She is forced to marry a witch. After they marry he leaves her locked in his room, and he is gone most of the day. He doesn’t tell her what he does all day.

The FMC reminded me a bit of Poppy from the From Blood and Ash series. I LOVED the banter and the slow burn. There is still so much we don’t know about the MMC, so I’m hoping we get to learn more in the next book.

I don't know if "love" is strong enough of a word to describe my feelings when it comes to Kerri Andrews' Witch's Pet. This book has grabbed me, taken hold of my heart and soul, and decided not to let me go. And I don't mind it at all.

I can't begin to decipher what I found more beautiful—the writing style, the way these characters were crafted, or the sheer amount of emotions oozing from each page. Everything was perfectly blended together, forming a tapestry of hurt, pain, betrayal, sorrow, along with the wittiest of banters and seeds of burning desire and, dare I say, love.

Sitri and Pandora may seem worlds apart, and in a way, they are, being born and bred in different societal norms and cultures. They are both apprehensive of each other, and this forced union, but at the same time, I can see why these two were more similar than they ever thought possible.

They are both struggling with their inner demons (pun intended) and difficult pasts while trying to navigate the present and a possible future. Would there be one? We are yet to see, and I am dying to know where Kerri will take us next.

I was honoured to be one of Kerri's ARC readers and to be given the chance to experience this witty, whimsical, dark, and intriguing story of two people and two worlds colliding. Allow yourself the time and open your heart to Pandora and Sitri; you will become as obsessed as I am.

I read it twice, and it still devoured me whole!

I read it.

Then I read it again.

And somewhere between the first shiver of chains and the final breathless page, this story claimed me.

This is one of those rare stories that creeps under your skin and coils around your bones — dark, lush, and full of aching, slow-burn tension that left me breathless. A story of punishment, power, and the terrifying, tender places where love begins to bloom in the cracks of ruin.

Pandora was meant to be a sacrifice, a girl with no magic, thrown to the wolves on the wrong side of the Wall. Shackled and veiled like a relic, she takes her sister’s place to marry a man she was never supposed to meet: Prince Sitri, a witch with no desire for a bride, let alone a human. She's the ultimate punishment, and he treats her like it.

“You are my punishment, remember?”

From the start, their dynamic is magnetic and brutal. Sitri locks her away in his room, insists it’s to protect her, but it’s a gilded cage, and Pandora burns to be free. She’s defiant, stubborn, aching to be seen. But Sitri keeps his distance, masks his pain with cruelty and coldness, even as he begins to unravel around her.

There’s a moment where he marks her, to protect her, and everything changes.

“I would like to do everything I can to prevent threats that may arise, and... it would be an honour if you would allow me to mark you.”

In that act, he sees the scars on her back, punishment from a daemon she’s carried since childhood. A secret she never wanted, a darkness that once tried to devour her. He accuses her of deception, interrogates her, before the truth finally cracks through.

And then, in a way only Sitri can — quiet, raw, and impossibly soft — he begins to choose her.

“You have a beautiful face, Pandora. I don't know why you're always trying to hide it.”

“Don’t ever feel guilty for defending yourself against those that would tear your life away from you.”

Gods, the yearning. The shift is slow, painful, and so exquisitely earned. Sitri, the witch with the scarred face and crooked teeth Pandora secretly adores, begins to hope, for her, with her. And when he promises her more, my heart shattered.

“I want to give you better, Pandora. I want to give you a better everything. A better life. One where you are not locked inside all the time. Where you don’t have to hide that you are Magi. Where you get to live... and to choose how you want to live and who with. I am going to give that to you. I swear I will.”

Their connection is haunting and hot, tender and wild. The writing wraps you in its grip, atmospheric, poetic, laced with the kind of tension that makes your chest tight and your fingers itch to turn the page. And just when it feels like they might finally get a breath, a whisper of freedom, it ends. On a cliffhanger so brutal, I genuinely yelled.

This book is everything I love: morally gray magic systems, enemies-to-something-more, captivity that turns into care, and a heroine who learns to fight with both fury and grace. Sitri is one of the most compelling MMCs I’ve read in a while — a scarred, reluctant prince trying not to fall, and failing beautifully.

I need the next book like air.

If you love stories that ache, that blend darkness with devotion, and characters who claw their way toward freedom, both from the world and themselves…then this one’s for you.

valley girl

DNFd after 34 pages. The writer gave the MMC the dialogue of 90’s valley girl is was “just like, so, totally, gross” and distracting. I could feel my face scrunching as I read it, I’m trying to avoid wrinkles and being in an unnecessary state of annoyance.

I had ZERO expectations when I opened this book but the ending wrecked me. This book wrecked me. The world building, the character building, the slow burn, the banter, the enemies to friends to lovers, and everything in between was just phenomenal. I felt like I was there with the characters the whole time. If you’re looking for a fantasy romance book that is different and innovative, look no further!

I picked this read to enjoy a sort of familiar cosy romantasy vibe. But it surpassed that and is now one of my favourite reads of the year. What is has that other romantasys sometimes lack is great banter and I mean stuff that has you grinning and giggling. Great chemistry between the two MCs and also excellent world building. Nothing felt predictable in this. It also has THE slowest slow burn romance ever, frustratingly so sometimes. There are many unanswered questions remaining, not all has been revealed yet. A lot to look forward to in the next book.

Literal magic. It’s like if your black cat had secrets, your diary could hex people, and your quiet village turned into a full-blown witchy drama. BUT, let’s be real: the ending kind of ghosted me. After all that build-up, I was expecting a full-on mic drop, and instead it felt like the story just quietly packed its bags and vanished into the mist. Still worth the read, but I low-key wanted more drama 🖤✨

4.5⭐️ Omg I loved this. Definitely more romance focused and less fantasy/world building but the banter and dynamic was amazing. The ending was a little lackluster, I kept waiting for something big to happen and it never did.. but honestly I’m kinda glad (I was getting nervous).

This is the first MMC I felt for this entire year, he was so babygirl💗. I am still lowkey skeptical of him though. 🤨 like that’s seriously a husband right there, but he began to feel a tad fishy towards the end. FMC is a little annoying, but I give her a pass considering her upbringing.

Although this book wasn’t for me, I will say the cover is very beautiful. I found many grammar issues while reading and the plot wasn’t at all what I was expecting.

The beginning started off at the turning point, and I found Pandora to lack inner monologue at the start. I hated Sitri a lot, especially when he kept calling her “Pet” and “nought” (which are very degrading terms). I felt that his cruelty was unnecessary and he acted very bi polar, acting kind to her one moment and rude the next. I know he’s supposed to be morally grey, but there’s a fine line between that and being a bully.

I wished their was more characters and world building at the start, since I was confused for some parts. I wanted to know more about the people and culture in the Wall as well as the Courts and political groups in the kingdoms. It would’ve been cool seeing her take classes for self defense, Royal manners, and about magic, seeing as not many Magi live in the castle it’s totally possible for Pandora to get a tutor. I also hated the fact that her love interest kept her locked up all the time in his chambers, and I felt like her emotions and dreams of leaving to be free was looked over as soon as she started falling for Sitri.

Pandora wasn’t very likable (but that’s just my opinion). She was clumsy a lot and I feel like she had a lot of potential but it was more focused on the romance then the fantasy plot or her escape. But a character I loved was Vera, who seemed the most reasonable then the others. It was a hard book for me to read, since it felt like reading a draft rather than the finished version.

Overall it is very much a romantasy book which focuses on the romance rather then the fantasy adventure itself. I don’t really like that genre myself but if you do then you might like this book. (Please don’t take this too offensive, if you loved this book that’s totally fine, it just wasn’t for me. Please no hate <3)

***ARC REVIEW***

This hits every component I need when I read a romantasy book and is one of my top five reads this year! The plot was fast paced - plenty of action scenes and magical elements. Although the humor and sarcasm is what I enjoyed the most. I love a romantasy with great banter and this had it from the start. Pandora & Sitri had me kicking and giggling repeatedly with their playful relationship. The magazine banter was the best 🤣.

The enemies to lovers trope & tension was STRONG. Sitri had me wanting to punch him in the face one moment and then loving him again a couple chapters later. I rinsed and repeated that feeling the whole book. The ending left the door wide open for the second book & I can’t wait to learn more about the magic system! I will be patiently waiting & reading it ASAP once it’s available 🤩

What a bummer 🫠 this didn’t work out for me.

There are glimmers of an interesting world - holy maidens shrouded in chains, witches vs non magical “noughts”, forced proximity, mysteries - but boy, it’s hard to connect with the world when we spend 90% inside a bedroom. I know this comes from the whole forced marriage situation but it was a really limiting choice in terms of story.

We barely meet any side characters or experience the world and its magic. Occasionally there’s a scene with rituals, tattoo like spell work, fantastical creatures but they’re meer glimpses and then we are back in the bedroom with repeating dialogue around miscommunications, the FMCs “daemon”, why-can’t-you-tell-secrets. I found it a bit tiring and repetitive.

Annnnd then we get to the end which was crazy abrupt, I thought my kindle had freaked out 🤷‍♀️

Although this wasn’t enjoyable for me, I’ll keep my eye on the author’s future works because I feel like the world was compelling, even though we didn’t get to really experience it. I have hope for the next one!

This book is a unique, creative, alluring and dark read. It's a fantastical world draped in chains, cruelty, and naivety for a girl who's never been beyond The Wall before.

We meet twin girls named Syra and Pandora. Pan will do anything to save and protect her sister, including letting her Father offer her up for marriage to a Witch. Those who are rumored to do unspeakable things for anything including youth.

Neither Pandora or Sitri want each other, they are both forced into the situation for their own reasons. They are both full of anger, shyness, passion, and being awkward. What is he to do with a girl with no magic when his world is nothing but magic after all? What is she to do when she's locked in his chambers, nothing but a bird locked in a cage?

The touches, the words spit in anger, the depth for what Sitri will go through for the things he wants, it all develops swiftly but also slowly. The world starts with world building, but it doesn't make the story overwhelming, it doesn't make it feel stuttered or lacking. There are moments that some may be shocked by, there are moments full of anger that you feel with them and moments where you're likely to cry (I mean I did….). We have a sheltered girl thrust into a world that she was never supposed to be a part of, and a man who never wanted a wife. Their chemistry is explosive, secrets must be kept, bargains must be made, and attachments shouldn't be formed.

If you want a book that is shocking, satisfying, touches on the darker side of a world with fantastical world building and a unique world that has a touch of familiarity in it this book is for you. The trigger warnings are there, and they don't shy away.

With Sitri I had moments at the start where I hated him. Yup, I hated him. Then when I started to like him I hated him again. That quickly grew with each flip of the page to where I hated that I loved him, to just outright loving him and knowing he is precious. He's an MMC that only wants to protect her, goes through so much and is full of denial, trauma, heartbreak and loss.

Pandora…. She's lived behind a wall thinking and being taught one thing her entire life and now being out in the world suddenly learns that things are what she was taught, but not everything was true. She's plagued with a daemon, she's an outcast in her home, and never supposed to have been the one there with the Prince. She's daring, she's brash, she's infuriating, she's childish, she's lost, she's hurt, full of denial, touch starved, and also carries her own bags full of trauma. She has a lot to unpack, and there's only so much you can do in yet another cage.

Despite the bleak scenes that are depicted at times there is much to laugh and smile about through out this story. I sat by rooting for the MMC and kept hoping the FMC would just realize things.

This book was devoured.
It consumed me.
It's going to be rent free in my head. Easily made my top recommendations.
Where is book 2!?

Thank you so much to the author Kerri Andrews for this fantastic story and the opportunity to read this gifted eARC.
I cannot wait to purchase this book. This was easily a swift 5 star read.

ARC Review: “The Witch’s Pet” by Kerri D. Andrews

“The Witch’s Pet” by Kerri D. Andrews is the dark fairytale I didn’t know I needed. Where snark, simmering tension, and spellbinding magic collide in a way that left me grinning like a fool. Seriously, the enemies-to-lovers tension in this book is so thick you could cut it with a cursed dagger. I spent half the time yelling, “Just kiss already!” and the other half giggling like a schoolgirl kicking her feet. The dialogue is sharp enough to draw blood, and the banter between the FMC and MMC had me absolutely hooked.

At first, I wasn’t entirely sure about the FMC, Pandors, she seemed like just another character; reluctant, mute but sweet (which made total sense later),but then her snarky, fierce personality burst through, and I was sold. The MMC, Sitri, on the other hand? I liked him immediately. Smooth, sarcastic, and just a touch dangerous, but he’s actually a cinnamonroll (that could kill you if you hurt Pandora).Their chemistry is a delicious slow burn that kept me practically glued to the page. Just fricking do it already!!!

But it’s not all banter and longing stares hidden behind insults, The Witch’s Pet has a world that feels real and lived-in, with a magic system that’s equal parts whimsical and witchy. Hand gestures for spells and potion brewing. The worldbuilding is unveiled gradually, never dumped on you, but enough to keep you hungry for more.

The story’s darker elements are just as compelling, occasionally catching me off guard but never feeling out of place. It’s a tale that knows how to be both chilling and charming. It was an enchanting, addictive read that I couldn’t put down. If you love enemies-to-lovers banter, a world dripping with magic, and just the right amount of “Will they, won’t they?” tension, “The Witch’s Pet” is a must-read. I need book two now!

Favourite quotes:

«Oh, you will. You’ll be following me around like a puppy, eagerly waiting for my return, so desperate for whatever scraps of attention I give you, I’ll have you eating from my hand in no time.»

«I’m not your pet.»
«Aren’t you though?»

I am lucky enough to be granted an ARC for this! What specifically drew me in? The tropes, of course! Enemies to lovers. Arranged Marriage. Magical powers. Yes, please. I was already expecting a dark, slow-burn fantasy romance—and I got exactly that, and MORE.

The relationship between the two leads is everything. The MMC is powerful, broody, a bit mean—but also protective in the most frustrating, swoony way. And the FMC? She’s innocent, a little naive from being secluded so long, but full of emotion. They’re both constantly torn between trusting and doubting each other, push and pull energy, and that tension? Chef’s kiss.

I loved how their relationship unfolded so slowly. There’s no rush here. Just soft, subtle moments that build and build. The banter, the subtle flirting, the stolen glances, the brush of the hand, and subtle touches, it's all so deliciously slow—you feel every moment.

The writing is smooth and easy to get into, and the world feels rich without being overwhelming. You can tell this is just the beginning of something BIGGER, and I’m already excited for what’s next. (I was in 89% when I realized "Wait!! No no no! I need more!!!)

If you’re into enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, morally grey characters, slow-burn romance, and all the “touch her and die” energy—this book was made for you.

THIS BOOK. How can one book have all my favorite things? The excellent storytelling had me hanging on every word. I felt like I dove right through the pages into this rich, gothic fairytale full of wondrous danger & twisted mysteries.

I must say this is one of the flirtiest enemies-to-lovers slow burns with the most endearing banter I think I’ve ever read. Top that off with one of the best “who did this to you” moments. At any given moment, I was crying over the injustice and betrayal of it all, then laughing at the ridiculously clever moments woven into this story.

I made it halfway through before putting it down for the first time to try and sleep. Love is not a strong enough word for how I feel about this book. My heart cracked when it was over and I have thought about this story multiple times a day since I finished it!

——————

Things start off with a society of archaic, ultra-religious humans (or nought) living behind a wall. Beyond the wall is a magical land complete with crazy creatures, plenty of magic and the Magi (evil witches…or are they?) And where do you think we are going… beyond the wall!!! Yes, yes, yes.

Our main characters meet through a politically arranged marriage between a grumpy mysterious Magi Prince & an innocent but fiery nought (non-magical) Princess with a shroud covering and a secret 🤫

Pandora is a shy, sarcastic, blushing, innocent, defiant, fiery little monster. Yes, all of those at once and it totally works. I LOVE HER. Her journey of self discovery, uncovering the mysteries of her past and coming to see herself in a different light added so much to her character. She feels things with her entire being and cares so deeply for others. She challenges Sitri in this way.

Sitri is an absolute work of art. He’s dark, dangerous and wears a nearly unbreakable mask of unfeeling coldness. Yet, buried beneath is a fierce and loyal protector. One minute, I wanted to personally pound him into the dirt.. (warning- there is an instance of cheating after their arranged marriage that gutted me..) But… the author worked some voodoo magic on my brain chemistry until I found myself mentally decked out in “team Pan-itri” gear, screaming for them to just make out already & swooning over them simply brushing shoulders. It was infuriating. In a good way. I think. *cries in frustrated confusion*

Speaking of frustration, the entire novel reads as tortuous slow-burn foreplay. I felt innocent all over again lol. The YEARNING and ACHING was crackling off the page. I need book two right this freaking minute.

Thank you to the author for providing this ARC! All opinions are my own.

I received this as an ARC, however that has no effect on my review. This had a grumpy reluctant hero who's somehow still the softest, a snarky heroine just trying to survive, and just enough "are they going to kiss or kill each other" tension!

Sitri was perfect. His self-awareness about being her captor, a nickname and hair tickling? Book boyfriend material right there.

The poor communication trope was a bit more than I would have liked-these two were allergic to having a direct conversation! But it wasn't enough to kill my enjoyment. Plus, the world building is solid without being overwhelming, and the side characters are great!

I had a blast with this one and I'm absolutely picking up book two when it drops!

*ARC Review* -
If I could give this book 6 stars out of 5 then I would definitely do so- this book had all the components of a Roman Empire read for me - easily the best read I’ve read all year and I read a lot - first of all, the romantasy genre is littered with 2 and 3 star reads. even though most of them are “okay” or “good” reads they are nothing to write home about- here is why I gave this book the rating - (with no spoilers bc I think you should read it too)

Pandora - her character was so relatable - she was a strong FMC without trampling all over my nerves - a lot of fantasy books tend to have unreasonably headstrong fmc that tend to take a good book and flush it down the drain - but when they are as well balanced and relatable as her character, it really puts you in her shoes - blood and ash is also one of my Roman Empires and she definitely gave me poppy vibes - maybe her story or her banter but there are definitely similarities in their characters, if you were a fan of her character

the banter between her and Sitri was so on point and had me laughing out loud at times- it made their relationship
So endearing

This was a romantasy that was so well balanced -
I cried, I laughed, I cried again - and the romance didn’t overshadow the overall story - it was also very well balanced as well

I can’t wait for the rest of the series.!

This is hands down one of my top ten reads for the last couple of years. An absolutely amazing debut work and I cannot wait to read more in this series!

Sitri and Pandora were so vibrant and I loved them. The banter and the emotions were top notch, their interactions had me giggling all the way through. The miscommunication/secrets vibe typically makes me want to shake people, but the obvious struggles to protect themselves and each other was just so endearing. There was so much growth and it was so fun to watch. I am so excited to see how they continue to grow together. And I have SO MANY questions now!

On top of the two mains, there are some absolutely amazing characters that we meet along the way. Vera was hands down my fave, and I loved seeing her relationship with both Sitri and Pandora.

The magic, the world building and the character growth are all top notch. If you like fantasy, gothic vibes and a slow burn enemies to lovers, GRAB THIS! You won’t regret it!!

This book was a fun read overall, and I really liked the banter between the FMC and MMC. Their back-and-forth kept things entertaining, and it gave the story a lighter feel. Most of it is told from Pandora’s perspective, and since she spends a lot of the book locked in a room, I get why some readers felt that part dragged or didn’t have enough worldbuilding. For me though, it made sense. Pandora doesn’t even know what she is until the end, so how could she fully understand the world around her? I think it actually sets things up nicely for the next book, where both she and the readers will get to explore more of the world together.

That being said, if you’re going in expecting a super detailed magic system or heavy political drama, you’ll probably be disappointed. The story leans more toward character dynamics and slow-burn romance than complex lore. There are a few gothic vibes and some creepy monsters mixed in, but nothing too wild or game-changing.

Even with that, I had a good time reading it. It’s well written, the characters are likable, and the pacing kept me hooked. It’s not the kind of book that’s going to blow your mind, but if you’re in the mood for something light, fun, and a little magical, it’s worth picking up. I’ll definitely check out the sequel to see where Pandora’s story goes.
