The best basketball player in the world today is LeBron James. Who was the championship teammate of Dwyane Wade. Whose childhood idol growing up in Chicago was Michael Jordan. Who broke many of the most impressive records of Wilt Chamberlain. Who was coached at Kansas University by Phog Allen. Who learned what he knew directly from James Naismith, inventor of the game of basketball. It seems the stars of today are more closely connected to each other and to the pioneers of the game than you might think.
Part of a new series by Sports Illustrated Kids called "Six degrees of Sports", this one focuses on connecting basketball stars including LeBron James. This book contains information on the roots of basketball, great passers, blockers, marksmen, scorers, and all-round great players. There is also some trivia, a glossary, a few suggested resources for further reading. Each section has lots of color pictures of the players as well as statistics. I found it to be repetitive and quickly lost interest. However basketball fans and fans of LeBron will definitely pick this one up, even if it's for browsing rather than reading cover to cover.
