He's a cocky lumberjack who hates my guts, and this Christmas we're forced to bake together…
Lucas Jolly and I have a secret history that left invisible scars. Now I'm back in Merryville, and he's making it crystal freaking clear I'm about as welcome as fruitcake at a dessert table.
When his meddling Mawmaw signs us up as partners for the town's Christmas Cookie Contest, there's five thousand dollars and a family tradition on the line. Six weeks of forced proximity in a kitchen might actually kill me, but I could use the money.
Between heated arguments over cookie dough and even hotter stolen glances, I'm melting faster than snowflakes on fresh out of the oven gingerbread. The town thinks we're secretly dating, but the truth is Lucas hates me. Even so, I'm one mistletoe moment away from crossing lines we swore we'd never cross again.
Now I'm wishing for a Christmas miracle because falling for Lucas Jolly nearly destroyed me once. Doing it again might be the sweetest mistake I ever make.
A Very Merry Enemy is a small town, holiday, enemies to lovers romantic comedy. It's sweet and spicy with a dash of hate to love you. This is the final book in the Very Merry Series, but each can be read as a stand alone. For the full Lyra Parish experience, start with A Very Merry Mistake.
Lyra Parish is a hopeless romantic obsessed with writing spicy Hallmark-like romances. When she isn’t immersed in fictional worlds, you can find her pretending to be a Vanlifer with her hubby. Lyra loves coffee, the great outdoors, authentic people, and living her best life.
I really loved the last Jolly brother's story, but I admit it was a bit duller than the previous ones. That's (personally) the risk with second chance romance. They either exceed everything and grip your heart or... They're just nice. But the "just nice" of the love story is elevated by the characters, the whole town and the love I already had for this universe 💕
I admit I wouldn't mind a new series in this world centered on the other characters. We still have HoHo's brother and a whole clan of Jolly cousins... just sayin' 😏
”This Christmas, I learned that home is love. Home is Lucas. Home is us. And I’m never leaving this again.”
🎅🏼🎁🎄🍪🕯️💍❣️🪵
Omg I am so emotional right now 😭 I tried to savor every last minute in Merryville, and I am so sad this series is over. I loved my time with the Jolly family so much. This series will be one I return to reread every Christmas season because it was everything.
Lucas and Holiday had such an epic “it’s always been you” story. I mean the man built a house FOR her without her, including every single thing they ever talked about in that house. He never gave up on her, yet still gave her the room to move away and spread her wings. Their hate to love story line when Holiday returns back to Merryville, so good because the tension was palpable!!! I knew it was going to be a slow burn when they started talking again, and it was executed perfectly! There was truly no universe where these two didn’t end up together. They both completed each other in the most wholesome way, and I just love them so much. And their bonus epilogue was the sweetest thing ever 🥹
This family and fictional town was so easy to fall in love with. All the characters were so much fun (especially you Memaw), and the Jolly family is truly family goals!!! I loved seeing every brother get their HEA, and then see all the women be welcomed into the family.
I am begging you to add this series to your Christmas reading because you will absolutely fall head over heels in love with these characters and this town!
This book was SO good! Holiday moves home after 15 years away. She runs into Lucas, her childhood sweetheart, who is absolutely not happy to see her. The anger was strongggg in this one in the beginning. Needless to say, Lucas was protecting his heart after it being broken by Holiday all those years ago. They are forced to work together when Lucas's grandmother signs them up for a cookie baking competition. Forced proximity works its magic and these two are forced to face the feelings they tried to keep buried. I loved Holiday & Lucas together. There was a lot of pain and resentment they had to work through. The burn was slow but soooo good. There is just something about a second chance romance that I cannot get enough of and this was no exception!!
I do believe this is my favorite book of Lyra's that I've read! Also, I need to go bake some Christmas cookies!!!
Lyra I don’t know what you put in your books that makes it so addicting but I could not put this down. I am obsessed with your books. In a few short days I finished this book and I was sad when it was over. This book was everything and more!
Holiday comes back to Merryville to start back over in her hometown also to escape a horrible ex. Lucas who Holiday has a secret past with but also left some scars with hates her for what she did to him 15 years ago. When his mawmaw signs them up for a baking contest they are forced to bake together. The whole town starts to think they are dating. Despite their differences they make it work until old feelings start to come back. Can they make it work again or will they fall victim to the past heartbreak they had 15 years ago?
I am so sad this series has come to an end but Lyra you ended it with a bang! It was so amazing seeing them both grow. Lucas melted my heart endlessly and showed up for Holiday over and over again. He is the perfect book boyfriend! This book and the whole series I will be coming back to over and over again! 🥹 I can’t wait to see what your other series have in store! But I am sad to say goodbye to the Very Merry Series!
"You were the ghost who haunted the hallways of my heart. You were the reason I couldn't commit to anyone." ~Lucas😍
"Lucas Jolly is looking at me like I'm his everything. The way he's always looked at me."~Holiday😍
I was excited to finally get to read the last Jolly brother's romance but, unfortunately it didn't quite meet what I thought it would be. There had been hints of what was to be revealed in the previous books of the series, it got me curious on what actually happened between Lucas and Holiday long ago. I wanted to know. Don't get me wrong, I love Ms Parish's world building and storytelling but this story came across as mean, rude, slowww, and too OTT at certain times. I mean it's Christmas in the small town of Merryville so my expectations were very high.😂📈📈
Now these 2 are 34yrs of age but you wouldn't guess it by the way Lucas and Holiday interacted with each other.😳😖 Non-stop arguing. You did this. Nooo. You're to blame for that and this. I hate you. You can't be serious? Teenagers. I get it's a lovers to enemies to lovers story, you broke my heart and I need to make you feel like the scum of the earth and talk trash every time I see your face, but Lucas, a grown man, was so ugly, mean, disrespectful to his Peaches or HoHo ((those pet names are eww no. NOO!🤢)) that I didn't like him. I tolerated his presence. Duuuuude. Take it down a notch. Or 2.🤦♀️ Holiday's twin brother Sammy, Lucas's best friend, didn't defend his sister when Lucas called her 'pathetic', 'a b*t¢h', a 'lying piece of💩'. Or the kicker: 'Bros before Hoes'. Her own brother said that!🤯 Danggg that's some next level bs. That wasn't funny. See Holiday left Lucas 15yrs ago and has now returned home from her broken relationship and other secrets from Paris to help Emma with her baked goods store: the Jolly Cookie Shop. The whole town was buzzing with gossip. So how could I tolerate a man who thinks that way of his former lover? Let it go, man. Move on. It's been 15yrs. Talk to someone. And slight spoiler: the story shifted around chapter 13. About 35% in. It took too longgg to get there imo. Lucas suddenly turned a corner and expected for another man wanting to buy baked goods later on, to show respect to Holiday. Lucas you were guilty of the same thing buddy.😒 Remember. Now I will be fair, I gave Lucas a chance, at almost half of the story, he redeemed himself. There was the caring, the romance, the support I was looking for. This is why I read Ms Parish's books.
Now for Holiday. Look, she had her issues too. I know she broke away from country living, wanting more in life, had stars in her eyes, but I was confused with her. Sometimes all that glitters isn't gold. And Holiday learned this and... stayed.🤔 If you had always loved someone else, and it was turning to crap where you are, why not call it a day and goo home. To your understanding family. Ignore the pretend and filming. The extra friend situation. Holiday was too wishy-washy for me. Indecisive. Yes. No. Shows sass but it soon disappeared. 15yrs. Girl. I'm sure there were signs before...😫 Gaslighting and mental manipulation will not fix itself in a matter of days. So take it with a grain of salt. I don't know how I feel about her. If you want a man, and one of his exes shows up, a former friend of yours, and they dance, do NOT go look for an attractive man to make him jealous. See. We're still playing mind games while trying to gain trust.😮💨😑
The villian. The OTT moments. That person was delulu.😵💫 It was weird. The contest. One might think it was rigged.🍪🏆🤣 The romance felt a little forced, remember this remember that, a bit rushed. Mild spicy moments.😚😚❄️🏕️❄️ Family dynamics and getting wayyy tooo involved in personal affairs.lol😜😜 This book was very different from the other 2 in the series. I like the book cover. It's cute. It was okay. Not my favorite. Sorry. But maybe it can be for other readers. Good luck. Happy reading.*•>§<•*🩷🩷🩷🎄
👷🏻♂️🧁👩🍳Thank you to Ms Parish for an ARC. The opinions shared here are my own.👩🍳🧁👷🏻♂️
Rating this was pretty hard because I loved the last 75% of the book BUT absolutely hated the first 25%
Lucas wasn’t just grump or mean in the beginning, he was actually vile….and he called her a bitch twice (which is a misogynistic slur). Like I get he’s mad at her but that was uncalled for. He had so much malice for her that I almost stopped reading.
Thankfully the next 75% was absolutely incredible plot-wise for them and they worked well and worked out their issues.
I loved seeing Holiday stand up for herself. I felt like her trauma with abuse was handled really well.
The only other thing that really annoyed me with this book was the little details were either completely unrealistic (the prices of the desserts were too cheap), or inconsistent (little mentions of baking processes or the names of baked goods were inconsistent as well) or just inaccurate (as the mathematical details didn’t make sense at times)😭😭😭 those details, whilst not really being that big of a deal for their overall storyline, did cause me to be irritated and did lessen my enjoyment of this book.
Overall, the books in this series are super cosy! Merryville is picturesque, the writing was atmospheric and you definitely feel allll the holiday vibes in this series. I would read more in this series if more books come out!
Holiday Patterson and Lucas Jolly do not get along after their friendship took a turn and Lucas won’t forgive her, so when his meddling granny puts them in the Merryville cookie contest together things are bound to get hot in the kitchen! Can they work out their differences and keep the cookies from burning? Can this lumberjack and baker finally put the past behind them and let the holiday magic bring them together? What a perfect holiday, enemies to lovers romcom. This whole series and all the Jolly brothers are magically delish! ;) They have the best tension and banter! I don’t think I smirked and laughed so much, especially with one of the bakery scenes lol. Grab your favorite cookie and cuddle buddy for this holiday second chance treat and a top read! Simply Perfect. Told in first person and dual POV

I’m never going to turn down reading an enemies to lovers romance + you couple that with “it’s always been you”?! Sign me up!! With a name like Holiday, how could this Christmas romance not get you in the holiday spirit?
Holiday Patterson and Lucas Jolly were a match made in Merryville heaven!! This book felt like Hallmark mixed with holiday baking championship! I absolutely adored his meddling Mawmaw + all the fun, holiday vibes in this cute holiday town!
I will say that there were a ton of side characters so it was a bit difficult to follow who all the friends and family were, but that’s likely because I haven’t read the first couple books in the series!!
Overall, I really liked this one and you should read it this Christmas season!!
This was the perfect dose of Christmas to kick off the season! The way the books all work together is the best! A Very Merry Enemy was the best friends to enemies to lovers holiday novel. Their relationship was believable and you felt how upset they were with each other and how much love was still there after so long. I felt so bad for Holiday and Lucas both. I have loved the entire Lyra universe! I love how all of the books interconnect! It’s great to see the characters from the first two books and where their lives are now. Another fun one for Lyra Parish!
The second book in this series is my favorite. This one was well written, but there were a few things that really bothered me and kept me from truly buying their love story.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!
I absolutely HATED the 15 year separation. That seems like a lifetime apart at their age and SO much time wasted when they supposedly never stopped loving each other.
She came home because her fiancé screwed her over. If he was a great guy, she would have married him and not given Lucas another thought.
Halfway through, she admits to herself that leaving Lucas behind was the biggest mistake of her life. Yet up until the very end, she still doesn’t know what she wants and is still afraid she will break Lucas’s heart. Those two things completely contradict each other IMO and it made me doubt that she loved Lucas more than anything.
Lucas was also so immature at the beginning when she first came back. Going out of his way to call her names and berate her whenever he could. I think it would have been so much more impactful if he just ignored her and acted like she didn’t exist. That would have hurt more. But he acted like a middle schooler instead of a 34 yr old man.
The ending was good though, and I especially loved the extended epilogue.

"A Very Merry Enemy" is part of the "Very Merry" series. Even if it can be read as a standalone, I recommend the other books too.
Thank you Lyra for an advance copy of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Lucas and Holiday have a secret history and she is back to Merryville after 15 years. She broke his heart and he wants to hate her for it. In the first part of the book they act like enemies, but between heated arguments there are also stolen glances.
My favorite character in this book is Mawmaw, Lucas's granny, that entered them in a baking competition so that they have to spend time together.
This book made me so emotional and I was so invested in the story while reading. It is so good to come back to Merryville, where the town is like a big family. Also, the characters from the other books have a significant role in the story and important events take place.
Holiday and Lucas's story is my favorite in the series and I am glad that they got a second chance. The chemistry and tension between them was so high, no matter if they were fighting or working together. I have to say that I did not like how Lucas acted in the beginning, even if he had reasons for being angry. But he redeemed himself after he found out about Holiday's reasons for coming back.
I love the way the relationship developed and how mature they acted after they started communicating. There was a slow burn, but a necessary one, filled with emotion. This is a right person, wrong time situation and it took them 15 years to get to the right time.
If you like sweet and spicy holiday romances that take place in a small town you should read this series.
Another addictive and engaging read in this series!
If you have enjoyed the others in this Christmas town series (and others from this author) you'll remember the Jolly family, and what they give to the town of Merryville. This is an easy to enjoy second chance story about Lucas and Holiday, and how sometimes, the safest place for you is your hometown.
I enjoyed the way "HoHo" dedicated herself to the bakery, and implemented things from her past, that made Emma's investment so successful. But the old chemistry with Lucas (that rekindled quickly) made it difficult to stay focused. Love it!!
Along the way in their HEA journey, they both needed to overcome the hurts and misunderstandings of their childhood connection, and face real life challenges as adults. It was very easy to turn the pages, and follow their steamy and sweet connection. The character banter and relationships are so easy to attach with, and enjoy.
While I do recommend reading all from this author, and certainly starting this town/family with Mawmaw (in the Friend Situation), begin the holiday Very Merry series with A Very Merry Mistake.
Pleased to have received an ARC (thank you) I happily recommend this author and book, and my thoughts are my own.
At first I was a wee bit concerned this was going to be one of those immature “ I hate yous”… but seriously moved past that quickly. Lucus and Holiday had a great journey back together. This was a strong second chance/first love rom-com with some heat and some teeth. ⋆.ೃ࿔*:⋆🩵❄️🌲 ⋆.ೃ࿔*:⋆
Loved all the usual aspects of this author’s writing. And, I was locked in & invested early on. The parts of this book that showcases other Jolly family members is perfect. (No spoilers)
"A Very Merry Enemy" is the last book in the "Very Merry" series. This is the series that introduced me to Lyra Parish, and I'll forever be thankful! I'm definitely sad it's over, but it was the perfect conclusion.
There are book boyfriends, and then there is Lucas Jolly. He's a cocky lumberjack but is the sweetest gentleman! He fully believes in respecting and treating women right.
Holiday and Jolly had a past relationship until she moved away. Now she's back in Merryville and isn't feeling very welcome. They are constantly having heated arguments, and both love to press each other's buttons. I live for the banter!
Not only do I love the Jolly brothers, but I also loved Mawmaw and her constant meddling, seeing her push Holiday and Lucas together through the town's Christmas cookie contest.
I loved everything about this story; it's so much more than a Christmas romance. It was not only giving holiday vibes but also tension, longing, spice, wonderful characters, and a beautiful love story with a happy ending!
I ARC read this title and I have 0 regrets about putting my TBR pile aside and picking this one up. Its a sweet wholesome Hallmark style Christmas time story.
Lucas is the typical lumberjack who works at his family farm and holds a candle for his highschool sweetheart. Years later he is still hurting over the one that got away. But then she comes back into town to turn his world upside down.
Holiday has spent her life following her dreams of being a reknown baking master, and after spending some time in Paris, she has her life turned upside down and decides to flee, going back to her hometown where the boy she never got over runs half the town.
Holiday and Lucas are at odds and grandma intervenes making them participate in a baking competition, together. Lucas and Holiday are forced to confront the past in order to move on with their futures and try to win this competition.
Loved this small christmas town, second chances, lovers to enemies to lovers story. It warmed my heart and got me wanting more Holiday romances!!
Lyra Parish this was a great story!! Thank you for letting me be an ARC reader!
This book was a disappointment. I’m guessing it was rushed since the first two were so much better than this. Lucas deserved better. This book was a recycle of the first two.
The two stars I’m giving are because we got to tie up loose ends by seeing Claire and Jake’s wedding and meeting the twins.
Seriously? The same 0704 door code, the same cookie competition but suddenly it the great British bake off in Texas, the repetitive “I hate you” dialogue that was just cringe… this book was a disappointment after teaching the first two.
Her parents let Dominic in after knowing that they were broken up and knowing he treated her poorly. Even if they just knew the glazed over version they still shouldn’t have let him in.
Emma just all of a sudden giving up the bakery? We never even saw her actually run it!
They said they were in love with eachother but then all of a sudden got shy to say I love you in fear that it’s too early? You already said it!
This was a painful read, but I’m still sad to say goodbye to the Jolly family.

This was released at the perfect time - when I was in between a few stories & needed some holiday spirit! I read the first two books of this series last December and now we’re back to finish it.
It’s always a treat to re-visit Merryville and see the Jolly clan again. We were able to meet more of the community - Holiday’s family - and learn about the bond that Lucas & Holiday have had since they were little kids. Of course it makes me sad that they missed out on 15 years of not being together but now they’re back and better than ever.
This is absolutely a 5 star book - with everything Christmas, you give the coziness, the comfort, the love & warmth of the Merryville community and of course you get your happily ever after & see how the HEA of Hudson and Jake are going as well. 10/10.
I wasn't too sure about this epic enemies to lovers tale to begin with, as Lyra did a spectacular job of painting Lucas in the worst possible light. His behaviour towards Holiday was initially so awful, I couldn't believe that he would ultimately turn into an absolute sweetheart, who treats Holiday like a goddess. Holiday came home to Merryville to lick her wounds, heal, and find herself again, and she does all of this and more. Her journey from a wounded, lost and lonely woman, to the best, brave, beautiful and brilliant version of herself that emerges was an absolute delight to read. Lucas's role in supporting Holiday's journey was heartwarming and totally swoony, and I absolutely loved watching them reconnect and rediscover the true and deep feelings they have always had for each other. Their chemistry was off the charts and the steamy scenes were beautifully written. If you've read the earlier books in this series, there were plenty of cameos from all our favourite characters, including Lucas's infamous 'Mawmaw'. For me, Lyra saved the best for last and ended the 'Very Merry' series on an absolute winner of a story.
I was lucky to receive an early copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
There’s no better way to spend the holidays than in Merryville! Holiday returns to her small hometown, working in the bakery and trying her best to avoid her past secret sweetheart and grumpy lumberjack, Lucas Jolly. Their enemies to lovers, opposites attract romance becomes heated with holiday magic when a meddling grandmother partners them together in the town’s baking competition. So much banter, so much chemistries so many laughs. A true joy it was to read this spicy romcom with Hallmark like vibes. 4.25 stars Thanks to the author for the eARC.
I have to say I overall liked this book. It had its moments of love and romance, and I never tire of the Christmas small town. But the enemy trope actually made me sad with how much hate they were spewing, or more to the point, he was spewing. A grown man acting like that. Just kind of a wild choice for a holiday book, as it didn’t really give holiday vibes, despite the holiday town. The nickname gave me the most horrible ick. “HoHo” instead of “Holly” for a girl named Holiday is insane when holly is holiday/xmas themed.
I love this series so I’m sad to see this one be the last book. I loved the arc into having the common enemy, and working together on the cookies to find their common ground. She stood up to her abusive ex, which was so satisfying, but didn’t really hold her childhood sweetheart accountable. At least she was able to find herself again. It was an interesting read. 3/5 story, 1/5 spice, overall 3 or 4 out of 5 stars
I love an enemies to lovers romance and this one was even better as it was a lovers to enemies to lovers romance. I’m not a fan of Christmas stories which this was but I really enjoyed it.
Holiday and Lucas were childhood sweethearts until she left to pursue her culinary career. Returning home to lick her wounds after her engagement ended, she ends up running the bakery on the Jolly Christmas tree farm and seeing Lucas every day. He doesn’t make it easy on her but that sizzling hate doesn’t take long to turn to lust. I have loved every book in this series and really anything written by Lyra Parish.
I loooooooove this book! Made me put up all my decorations up and get into the Christmas spirit! I am so glad we get Lucas’ story! Also love our strong female lead Holiday! Lyra never misses and this book is another hit! I am so sad it was my last trip to Merryville though! Thank you Lyra for another beautiful, cozy, and spicy romcom!
I loved this! It was so cute, but also had so much emotion and feelings in it. A small town second chance romance? Count me in. The writing style was done perfectly and it felt like everything had a place. A great holiday read !!
First, the story was painfully slow. Second, I think Lucas is a prig. He was so nasty to Holiday and she just low esteem threw herself at him. Honestly didn’t give a fig what happened with these two.
I happen to stumble across this book on tik tock and thought it seemed like a cute book and heck its christmas themed, why not lol. This book was such a great read! I loved every minute of it!
ARC!🤍 I loved this book, and it started getting me in the mood to read Holidays romance books! The way that Lucas loved Holiday through everything was honestly just precious! I enjoyed this book so much!🫶🏻
This book is pure Christmas joy. The banter is hilarious, the chemistry is delicious, and the small-town chaos had me grinning the whole time. Lucas is the perfect grumpy lumberjack, and the tension is chef’s-kiss good. It’s fun, flirty, festive, and honestly one of the cutest holiday romances I’ve read.
4.5 ⭐️ Predictable, but in that delightful, Hallmark-style way where you know what’s coming and still enjoy every moment. It was cozy, festive, and perfect for when you’re craving something light, cute, and comforting. Exactly the kind of holiday read I was in the mood for.
I absolutely LOVED this book, I get so excited whenever I get an opportunity to read an ARC from Lyra. 20/10 a must read, perfect for the holiday season!
