Where the Light Lingers

Rate this book
Sunny Thompson is certain that her friend is missing.

Growing up the daughter of drug addicts in her hometown’s sketchiest trailer park, Sunny is used to the police not taking her seriously. Now, being a dancer at the town’s most popular strip club has made matters even worse. When she approaches them with concerns about her friend’s whereabouts, they dismiss her immediately.

Axel Pasley left his hometown six years ago with a dark secret looming over him. Now that he has returned, he hopes to rekindle the raging fire he once shared with the woman he could never forget. His fiery and bright Sunny shines like a beacon even in his darkest nights. Though she wants nothing to do with the man who broke her heart beyond repair, he will walk to the ends of the Earth to win her back.

As it becomes more and more clear that a predator is among them, Axel works tirelessly to protect the one thing in the world he loves, even if Sunny knows she is plenty capable of saving herself. Rage burns inside her as she watches someone prey on the women she holds near and dear. With every passing day, Sunny gets closer to the answers she seeks, and one singular thing takes over her revenge.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

This book has one trope I'm not a fan of..instalove. Except they fight it. Hate that. I also dislike second chance WHEN it's written like this. Everything felt so rushed. I loathe that incorrect information was given about a nose bleed. Google is free. The writing isn't bad. What's got my brain all mixed up is this feels like two stories mushed together. Does it want to be second chance romance with some smut, or does it want to be a romance thriller with too much smut and not enough plot. Well, the not enough plot is accurate no matter what. But that would have been OK if we were not trying to play detective. The intimate scenes are kind of cringe, and to be honest very similar. If you've read one, you've pretty much read the others. Our FMC has some weird personality change during said scenes. It's just odd. I would have rather heard more from the villan throughout the book. That would have been way more suspenseful/interesting. Nothing big, but why not get a glimpse? We needed to read the same smex scene again? Fun. 🙄 It's listed in the "mystery romance" and "romantic suspense", which is why my complaints are what they are. It wasn't enough suspense or mystery. There just wasn't any debth to the story or the characters. I'd rather the book be another 100 pages of more details about them and the plot. We need zero more intimate scenes.

This could’ve just been a great second chance romance novel. The ending of the “case” was super annoying tbh.
