⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘Is “Rowen Chambers” Freida McFadden’s newest pen name? Her plot twists are equally as mind blowing and her books are the same level of incredible.’ Nicole
Eight guests. One isolated lodge. One deadly secret.
It’s supposed to be a relaxing week in the mountains — one last trip with our college friends before life gets too serious. Just me, my husband, and the people we’ve known for years.
But the moment we turn off the narrow road and see that cabin, surrounded by snow and silence, I feel it. Something’s off.
I tell myself I’m being silly. Until she shows up — the one person who knows exactly what I did, all those years ago.
I want to run. But it’s already too late. A storm has hit. The roads are blocked. And then our phones mysteriously disappear.
Some of us won’t make it out of here alive.
A tense, addictive psychological thriller with a twist you won’t see coming. Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, J.T. Ellison, Lucy Foley, Jeneva Rose, B.A. Paris, Ruth Ware, Shari Lapena and McGarvey Black.
Looking for an ice cold thriller featuring an isolated setting, secrets, suspicious accidents, and twists? This one is a great winter read to give you chills. It took me just two days to listen this because I got so invested in finding out if Beth was right all along or if something else was happening. What a surprise twist! The story moves along at a nice pace with great narration, which makes it a quick but suspenseful read.
3.5 ⭐️ You know those movies you watch from a streaming service because you need something to watch and just want to be entertained? The acting is kinda bad, the story line is somewhat generic, but you still enjoy the movie? That’s what reading this book felt like.
The ultimate “who done it?” - keep ya on your toes kind of book. I felt intrigued the entire time & I didn’t see the twist at the end coming! There were parts that felt pretty predictable and corny, but overall I enjoyed. If you need a quick, entertaining thriller, I’d recommend this!
Friendship is a strong relationship and not everyone is capable of being the best part of our lives, sometimes the people we trust the most could be the worst kind of people to keep around. The people who think that they have the best friends who we can trust with every secret of ours are the ones that can be the best enemies too. Having secrets is normal thing about being a human being but we need to have someone with whom we can share the secrets to feel lightweighted for a little while. The person to give secrets is many times our partner but there are few secrets that we need to keep from them too. This is the story of a group of friends who meet once a year and has been doing do for last 10 years but this time they decided to meet in winters rather than summer. But the place they have chosen is way away from the main land and with a storm on the way, Beth is scared that if something happens they would be too lost and away for calling anyone for help. As they meet there is someone who has the biggest secret about Beth that can not only destroy their friendship but also her marriage, she tries her best to keep the secret hidden and as their phones disappear and storm outside she is too scared to even enjoy the vacation. No one is ready to believe her fears about her friends’ brother who has mental issues since their college days not even her husband for that matter. As the friends’ group start loosing members slowly, everyone is scared for their life but no one has idea who is doing this and why. Beth has an idea but no one agrees with her as they all believe he has changed over the years and there are accidents which led to them loosing their friends but something is definitely wrong but Beth can’t prove anything. Is Beth just trying to keep her secret hidden by blaming others or there is something really wrong with the group? Will her doubts save her from the future that is doomed for sure or it will reach her before she could reach the interpreter?
This started out as an intriguing read. I loved the premise of an old group of college friends getting together, then having buried personal issues emerge. The setting was great—a luxury type cabin in the mountains—as was the constant threat of severe weather followed by an eventual pile-up of wind, snow, and ice. Toss in missing cell phones, and I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough.
The first three-fourths of the book is told from the POV of Beth. Although there were times I had to suspend belief, I still found the story entertaining. After that the POV shifts around between Beth and two of the other characters. That’s when things go off the rails—too much in my opinion. There was also one HUGE plot misstep that I can’t believe the author or an editor didn’t catch. I don’t want to give away spoilers but let’s just say there would have been a second track of footprints in the snow.
Taking all that into consideration, I give 5 stars to the first three-fourths of the book, three stars to the last quarter, for a final rating of 4 stars.
Even tho Beth was a real pain in the butt, it was a really good book. There wasn’t really anyone to like! The characters were very well written. I almost felt like I knew them. Sure glad I don’t!! If you want a thriller with a good twist, you’ll enjoy this one. Definitely recommend.
Starts as an annual reunion with college friends. Honestly I found Beth to be very annoying throughout the book. Her super paranoia wasn’t unfounded, but she was definitely a cruddy friend when all things started happening in the book. It took me a while to figure out what was happening but when I did 🤯 that’s one reunion nobody will forget.
Seemed like a usual plot but kept it interesting enough to not want to put it down. There was a part i thought was plain crazy stupid but the characters were crazy so maybe it matched up but made me say ‘that’s stupid’. Still enjoyed the suspense of it all !
