Highland Getaway

The perfect Scottish getaway. The wrong influencer. All publicity is good publicity . . . right?

Rosie Winter has spent her life believing that the right outfit can change everything - but when she's mistakenly invited to an influencer retreat at a castle in the Scottish Highlands, she's forced to swap designer dreams for cosy jumpers, freezing lochs and locals who see straight through her social media façade.

Most infuriating of all is Hunter Stuart, a rugged, no-nonsense Scot who seems determined to challenge everything Rosie thinks she knows about success, happiness and herself. As curated perfection gives way to chaos, muddy boots and Hunter's infuriating wisdom, Rosie realizes that real transformation doesn't come from looking the part - it comes from Scotland itself and the people who call it home.

A sweet and funny, heart-warming romcom set in a remote Highlands castle for fans of rivals-to-lovers, slow-burn and mistaken-identity romances.

Firstly thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this fab book.

I already really love Amber Eve’s book so was thrilled to get hold of this new addition .

The story is centred around down on her luck Rosie Winters. Recently dumped by her unpleasant boyfriend she is homeless and hurt. Her Instagram influencer career has not really taken off so she is bowled over when she has an invite to review a luxury highland Scottish hotel.

Only one problem …….. The invite is for the hugely popular influencer Rosie Summers but who is to know if she takes the invitation it’s an easy mistake to make ? It’s just a surname and she is a sort of influencer and she is off course called Rosie?

This is a lovely story of Rosie becoming her true self and not constantly trying to please everyone. Her friendship with ‘gardener and handyman’ Hunter is so sweet . He helps her start to see the real Rosie and not the broke and down on her luck version she sees.

The other characters are the sometimes very cruel influencers staying at the hotel. This book shines a light on what we want to see and what is really happening in the world of Instagram very well.

I really enjoyed this story and I couldn’t put it down . I look forward to listening to the audible version on its
release

I totally give this book a glowing 5 stars and really hope you have the joy of escaping with Rosie to the beautiful Scottish highlands .

This was absolutely adorable!

A massive thank you to NetGalley for approving me for Highland Getaway by Amber Eve.

4.5/5 star ⭐

This was so incredibly heartwarming, funny, and chaotically good. I couldn’t stop reading and read it all in one evening!!

Set in the highlands of Scotland, it brings in all the small town, grumpy sunshine goodness you can ever want.

It’s such an easy pace to follow and keep up with it, it just flowed. The characters all shine in their own ways and the development that they all have is so amazingly well written. It just feels like a natural progression for them.

I felt that the underlying tones of the story are what everyone feels like at least once in their life. Because trying to fit in is hard, and being invisible can be just as hard to be listened to as well. This is portrayed in such a way that you cannot help but root for Rosie and for her to come out on top. And be the person she knows she can be.

I will definitely be recommending this to people!!

I had actually pre-ordered this from Waterstones before I knew it was on NetGalley so when I saw it, I knew I had to have a cheeky little request and it was approved! it’s safe to say I don’t regrets the preorder and now I’m going to have a trophy for my shelf🫣

3 ⭐️ 🫑 (no spice)

Highland Getaway by Amber Eve is a no spice, cosy romance mystery set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. We follow Rosie, who has been mistakenly invited to an influencer prelaunch stay at the new Chrysalis hotel. Whilst staying in the luxurious castle, Rosie battles with her internal self esteem issues, as well as the snarky group of influencers who treat her like an outsider. Weird and mysterious things start happening to Rosie in the castle and she finds herself starting to trust the hotel’s handyman who always seems ready to help her and figure out what’s going on.

This was an easy read and I loved that I could get lost in the setting set out in the book. The author does a great job at vividly describing the beautiful castle grounds. Each member of the influencer party was distinct and interesting. I loved how relatable Rosie was (the normal girl vs the influencers) and how fake the influencer lifestyle is - what you see online can be manufactured as a way to influence people into certain decisions. My favourite thing about this book is it is genuinely funny. I could picture this as a romcom film in my mind and some of the things that happen made me actually laugh out loud.

For me, what let the book down slightly was the romance between Rosie and Hunter. Whilst I enjoyed both characters and found the development of their relationship sweet, I think the book is marketed too heavily as a romance book. Romance is certainly a storyline, however I would argue the mystery is an equally prevalent storyline. The plot reveals were very obvious and I could guess immediately who was behind everything, but I didn’t find this to be a problem because more and more mysterious things kept happening to keep me entertained. I found the last part of the book a bit too cheesey, however It would be very suited to readers who love hallmark movies!

📚 Book tropes:
- mistaken identity
- single dad
- slow burn

This was such a fun, cosy romance!! Set in the remote Scottish Highlands, it involves a case of mistaken identity, interesting commentary on influencer culture, a hot rugged single dad and a touch of mystery - what more could you want?!

I couldn’t put this book down and finished it in two nights - Rosie was such a relatable FMC with her awkwardness and longing to change her life after a bad relationship and unsuccessful career.

I was so rooting for her to stop putting herself down and embrace her chaos, and love that Hunter also encouraged this!! Their progression from strangers/dislike to friends to lovers was so sweet to watch, as was the development of the family relationship involving Hannah.

The side characters were also so fun and unique, I loved how we began to peel back the layers and reveal their real selves. So many moments made me laugh out loud!!

This really wasn’t the typical romcom I was expecting - it was even better. A great escapist read that left me dreaming of the Scottish wilderness and happily ever afters!!

I received this book from NetGalley and this book is available for pre order purchase from Amazon and is released on the 4th June.

Do you love a small town romance? If you do this book could really suit you. It gives wholesome vibes and is a very easy read. I read this in one day.

Rosie is a wannabe influencer whose life is in need of a revival and needs a bit of luck. Where better to try and find yourself than a 5 star retreat in the Scottish highlands. But is she cut out for the cut throat influencer life.

Highland Getaway was such an uplifting, heartfelt read — exactly the kind of story that quietly exceeds your expectations. I went in hoping for a cosy romance with some depth, and Amber Eve delivered something much richer than a simple feel‑good love story.

I really loved how much substance there is to the plot. The book explores relationships, personal growth, and emotional resilience in a way that felt relatable and genuine. Rosie’s journey pulled me in right away, and I appreciated how my opinions of different characters shifted as the story unfolded. That gradual change felt intentional and very cleverly written.

The only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars for me is the pacing in one particular emotional stretch. I initially felt so much sympathy for Rosie, but that section lingered a bit too long, while other moments felt slightly rushed and could have used more space. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment, but it did stand out.

Overall, though, this is a warm, engaging, and uplifting story that left me smiling. I’m really glad I picked it up.

~ plot ~

Highland Getaway screams cosy afternoon, curled up on the couch with a hot drink, candles lit & a chunky blanket wrapped around you. It’s a fantastic book but please allow me a minute to pitch it to Hallmark too -

• An awkward, down on her luck FMC (Rosie) who is impossible not to root for is mistakenly invited to a remote, picturesque castle in the Scottish Highlands.
• There she encounters a group of less than desirable influencers who give off major ‘you can’t sit with us’ vibes.
• Enter a grumpy, rugged, single Dad, handyman MMC (Hunter) who just so happens to turn up every time she needs someone!
• Add to that a bunch of comic mishaps, accidents, drama & some mysterious goings on.
• Not forgetting the bonus 4 legged hairy friend!
• PLUS a slow burn, sweet, spice free romance with a journey of personal growth & finding yourself?

…A Hallmark movie waiting to happen!!

~ review ~

Highland Getaway is a heartwarming, cosy, feel-good, romantic comedy that is wholesome, uplifting & entertaining. It delivers a ton of laugh out loud moments, a learning lesson or two as well as an entertaining mystery. It’s written in manageable chapters, is easy to follow & is the type of book where one chapter soon morphs into ten!
I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting the Scottish Highlands but Amber Eve does a fantastic job of putting the reader there. Her writing is vivid, atmospheric & through her words, you can feel the love & passion she has for the setting.

✅ I’d highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy laugh out loud humour, positive personal growth & a sweet, spice free, slow burn romance.
It also reminded me of a whole host of films -
• Bridget Jones - for Rosie’s messy, chaotic energy.
• Just My Luck - for the awkward mishaps.
• Leap Year - for the opposites attract & fish out of water concept.
• A Castle For Christmas - for the grumpy x sunshine dynamic & Scottish setting.
If like me, you eat sleep & breathe these types of film, add this book to your TBR!

On the surface Highland Getaway is a sweet, slow burn romance x entertaining mystery but there’s actually a lot more to it.
It explores themes of self doubt & feeling out of place. It also looks at social media/influencers & how easy it is to portray something that isn’t true to life. I really liked how Amber Eve covered all of that in a way that was impactful & effective but not heavy. You feel for Rosie & what she’s been through/is going through but you aren’t left with any negative feelings, it’s uplifting & positive.
I also really appreciated how Amber Eve was able to portray some of the negative areas of social media/influencing without bashing, downplaying or disregarding it as a career. (Why people still refuse to accept it as a career path or a way to earn a living is beyond me!)

One thing that bothered me was the amount of mishaps, accidents, chaotic moments etc. While I get that it’s part of Rosie’s charm, they went past the point of entertaining & ended up a tad exasperating. I also felt like the timeline could’ve been longer. An awful lot happened in a very short space of time & I know it’s only a fictional story but tacking on a couple of extra days would’ve been great!

~ final thoughts ~

Overall this was a really enjoyable read. Lighthearted, comforting & funny but impactful & emotional too. Rosie & Hunter were a perfect example of opposites attract & the genuine slow burn was such a treat. I would say it’s more equal parts mystery & romance as opposed to it being predominantly romance as suggested but that wasn’t an issue for me. The mystery added a fun, suspenseful element to the story & although parts were predictable, some things kept me guessing throughout!
This was my introduction to Amber Eve & I’m excited to read more of her work.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bonnier Books UK & Amber Eve for giving me the opportunity to read this eARC. This is my honest opinion & I’m sharing it voluntarily❣️

A feel-good Highland retreat with charm, chaos, and a touch of mystery.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Summary of plot:
Rosie is fed up with her life. Raised by a single mother and reliant on hand-me-down clothes, she struggled to fit in at school—and those insecurities have followed her into adulthood. Now she’s been dumped by her boyfriend, is on the verge of having nowhere to live, hates her job, and has fallen into debt after using shopping as a form of escape.

When she receives a surprising email inviting her to a luxury spa hotel in the Highlands—seeking influencers ahead of its grand opening—she jumps at the chance. She hopes this four-day retreat will help turn things around.

But from the moment she arrives and is picked up by Hunter, the hotels employee, things begin to go wrong. Rosie becomes convinced that someone is out to get her. Meeting the other influencers only makes things worse—she immediately feels like she’s back at school, an imposter who is completely out of her depth. Now Rosie must navigate the trip, the strange events surrounding her, and her own self-doubt—but can she actually achieve what she set out to do?

My Review:

Highland Getaway is a wholesome, small-town, easy read. I picked it up mainly because it’s set in the Highlands—a place where we have relatives and somewhere I absolutely adore. The mountains, lochs, trees, fresh air, and castles all feel magical (even if it’s very cold!). The author captures the setting beautifully.

The plot is engaging from the start, using humour to help you warm to Rosie straight away. She has strong ‘Bridget Jones’ energy—relatable, awkward, accident-prone, but ultimately well-meaning. She’s desperate to fit in but has always felt invisible and unimportant. What she doesn’t realise is that Hunter does see her. As the days go on, Rosie begins to enjoy spending time with him. He encourages her to be unapologetically herself and to hold her head high—but she keeps getting in her own way. Their relationship is a gentle, slow-burn romance.

I was also really interested in the other characters. The influencers, despite their polished appearances, have just as many struggles as Rosie. She starts to realise that what people present online is far from reality—and begins to question whether she even wants to be part of that world.

Hunter, our male lead, is more of an isolated soul. He’s raising his daughter, working hard, and clearly cares for Rosie. When strange things begin happening to her, he becomes someone she turns to for help—but he has secrets of his own.

That said, there were a few things I struggled with. Rosie becomes very intensely invested in helping the hotel and the local community, and at times it felt unrealistic. She’s only there for a few days as an influencer, so her level of involvement didn’t quite ring true for me. While some of her mishaps were funny, I felt there were a few too many, and they became a bit overwhelming. By the end, I found them more frustrating than amusing—if I were the hotel manager, I might have asked her to leave!

I also found the portrayal of the village locals during their confrontation with the laird a little too cartoonish. While the book has comedic elements, this particular part lacked depth and felt slightly unrealistic.

Some plot points were predictable—although, to be fair, I didn’t guess the “whodunnit,” which kept things interesting.

Despite these critiques, I finished the book in under two days, which says a lot. I genuinely enjoyed it and found it hard to put down.

If you’re looking for a cosy, “U-rated” slow-burn romance (no spice), set in a tranquil and atmospheric location, with some laugh-out-loud moments and a hint of mystery, then Highland Getaway is definitely worth picking up.

Highland Getaway is my introductory read into Amber Eve. Having never read her before, I thought it was time to remedy that with a book within my favourite genre/sub-genre of romance novels. Scottish Highland romance.

Immediately it already ticked several of my boxes. Set in the Scottish Highlands? Check. Cosy? Check. Single Father? Check. Abundance of romance? Check, check and check again.

Admittedly, I am not usually drawn to reads that normally feature influencer culture--usually from the Female Main Character's perspective--, I do give reads the benefit of the doubt when going into them, especially for the first time, to see if I can be converted into making an acceptation against my own rule. As other readers have said and I have to agree, it is a refreshing take and outlook on the whole 'influencer culture' we are more than familiar with in modern day life, providing insightful commentary into a niche area of life made successful by lucky individuals who are able to make it work. Will I purposely seek out reads that feature FMCs in books with this as their career? Probably not. That said, I am pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it here within this book, not because I had any doubt in the author or her writing, but due to my own personal preferences (as I'm not a massive fan of influencer culture, on the whole).

Rosie, our Female Main Character, gave off the air of relatability which some of us readers will be able to relate to in one or more ways. She's awkward, unlucky in love and seeking to change both her career and her life. Something I personally, can relate to on all counts. She was delightful to read and helped carry the story alongside Hunter.

Hunter--bonus points to Amber for use of an ultra-attractive name--, enabled Rosie's attractive brand of chaos as he slid from being strangers to eventual lovers with her. He's a single father who was able to both keep the love for his daughter there, while stepping out into something new, and unexpected, with Rosie, blending both aspects of his life together to make a new familial unit with the three of them.

Branching outside of Rosie and Hunter, Amber also included a host of hilarious side-characters who brought us so many literal laugh out loud moments. A novel isn't always defined by its main characters alone, but from all of the characters within it. Each one here had their role to play and was used perfectly in the scenes they featured in and the moments they were needed for.

By the time I turned the last page on my eARC copy of this book, my initial reasons for picking up were reinforced. My skepticism over the FMCs career was no longer, and I was once more pleasantly surprised at how typical romance-comedy this was of a romantic comedy story. There's nothing wrong with following a cliche or well-walked path that other authors traverse when writing a book, as we do love to read about certain things on repeat or every now and then, but Highland Getaway had its own uniqueness about it that was invigorating. Captivating.

Overall, it was time well spent finally jumping into an author whom I've seen titles from, but had never cracked one open. Twice as so, given the setting.

May we go back to the Scottish Highlands again with Amber in the near future.

4 stars - Recommended Read

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review.

Rosie has had a run of bad luck and poor choices in her life and is in need of a fresh start. By chance, she receives an email inviting her to a pre-opening competition for influencers in the run up to a grand opening of a luxury spa hotel in the Scottish Highlands. Despite noticing that the email doesn’t actually have the right surname, and knowing there is a legitimate influencer with the name on the email, she decides to go—she doesn’t have many other options, and it temporarily solves her issue of having to vacate her flat with nowhere else to go. The next four days unfold in a whirlwind of mishaps, discoveries, and personal growth.

I ended up enjoying Highland Getaway far more than I expected when I first started it. Once it found its rhythm, it became a genuinely fun, feel‑good read with a good balance of warmth, light drama, and gentle humour. Although the story centres primarily on Rosie, we still get some nice development from the side characters. There are a few twists and turns along the way — some I found very predictable, others left me guessing to the reveal. At times, the timeline feels a little tight, especially regarding certain relationship developments—stretching the stay to a week might have added realism—but the consolidated timeline of events didn’t truly detract from my enjoyment.

The book is a great holiday read, nothing too taxing and easy to pick up and put down without remembering lots of intricate details. The imagery of the Scottish Highlands is inviting, and it left me feeling as though a rural spa retreat would be exactly the sort of escape I’d want myself. The book grew on me; once the comedic efforts settled, I found many moments genuinely funny and even laughed out loud once or twice. I also appreciated the inclusion of Stevie, the dog —stories with notable pets always get a bonus point from me! I’d have loved for Stevie to have an even bigger role!

Where I struggled was with the opening scenes. Rosie getting stuck in a train toilet, opening the door, and somehow falling straight out through an exterior door felt far too implausible—especially for anyone who’s ever spent time on a train, or in my case, worked in the train‑building industry. Toilet doors simply aren’t positioned opposite exterior doors, and the slapstick tone of the scene pulled me out of the story before I’d even fully settled into it. I feel the author could have conveyed Rosie being down on her luck just as effectively by having her stumble off the train overloaded with bags, without needing such an exaggerated setup.

Pre-release version notes: The book was well written and edited well. I only found 2 typos while reading and all components of the story helped move the narrative forwards.

Firstly, a huge thank you to Amber Eve, Black & White Publishing, Bonnier Books UK, and Love Books Tours for the opportunity to be part of this tour and for my gifted copy of Highland Getaway.

Rosie Winter’s life is far from perfect. When an invitation to a luxury Scottish castle retreat lands in her inbox by mistake, she decides to seize the opportunity and attend in place of the intended guest. It’s not long before her secret is uncovered, but rather than being sent home, Rosie finds herself staying on and competing in an influencer challenge alongside fellow guests Bex, Daniel, Zara, Millie and Yasmin.

Told in first person through Rosie’s perspective, this was such an easy and enjoyable read to sink into. From the very beginning I found myself invested in Rosie’s journey, and as the story unfolded, I loved getting to know the cast of characters surrounding her.

One of the highlights for me was the growing banter between Rosie and Hunter Stuart, the castle groundskeeper. Hunter is the definition of rugged Highland charm, part lumberjack, part Highland warrior, and the chemistry between him and Rosie develops so naturally throughout the story. Their exchanges had me smiling more than once and often laughing to myself.

Speaking of laughter, Millie was an unexpected favourite. Her wonderfully unfiltered observations and tendency to say exactly the wrong thing at exactly the right moment provided some genuinely funny moments throughout the book.

While Highland Getaway is undoubtedly a warm, uplifting and feel-good romance, it also explores some surprisingly relevant themes. Beneath the picture-perfect social media posts and carefully curated online personas, many of the characters are dealing with insecurities, self-doubt and challenges that aren’t immediately visible to those around them.

One quote that particularly resonated with me was:

“Sometimes the loneliest place is in the middle of a crowd.”

I thought the book did a fantastic job of highlighting how easy it is to make assumptions about people based on what we see online. The reality is often very different. In a world where we’re constantly presented with carefully edited snapshots of other people’s lives, this felt like an important and timely message.

Did I predict some parts of the story? Yes. Did that lessen my enjoyment? Not at all. Sometimes there’s something incredibly comforting about settling into a story that delivers exactly the kind of reading experience you’re hoping for.

This is a charming, banter-filled romance that’s perfect if you’re looking for a little escapism. With its beautiful Scottish setting, lovable characters and feel-good atmosphere, Highland Getaway left me wanting to book myself into a castle spa retreat in the Highlands immediately.

A thoroughly enjoyable escape and a lovely reminder that people are rarely quite what they seem on the surface. ❤️

Rosie Winter is ecstatic when she is invited to a prestigious retreat in the Scottish highlands, and she jumps at the opportunity. Only problem is, she wasn’t meant to be on the guest list - it is a case of mistaken identity. Not awkward. At. All…
Rosie isn’t exactly the perfect fit for the retreat, she’s more a high heels sort of girl than muddy wellies, and the good looking (but exasperating) groundskeeper Hunter Stuart can see right through her. Will Rosie realise there are different ways to shine than just within her carefully curated life?

The Pros:
1) I love a book with the social media angle in it - I find it fascinating. Plus there is a competition in the story around this plot line.
2) There is a mystery (or two)
3) The setting is beautiful - the Scottish Highlands - plus the story is in a luxurious hotel
4) I was a fan of the ending

The Cons:
1) There are sadder parts for when Rosie doesn’t feel like she’s fitting in etc

The Quotes:

1) 'Let's do some quick icebreaker exercises first, shall we? Just to get to know each other, seeing as we're all going to be effectively living together for the next few days.' Excellent: that's two of my worst fears checked off, and we're not even finished breakfast yet.

2) He turns to leave, and then hesitates, looking back over his shoulder at me as if he's trying to make up his mind about something. 'You look very nice, by the way,' he says at last, his voice a little hoarse. 'So whatever that dress is saying about you, I ... well I agree with it.'

3) 'Men don't really have deep and meaningful conversations with their colleagues, Rosie. We just talk about the weather, and sometimes football.'

The Summary:
I loved the premise for the book. Social media influencer Rosie gets mistaken for someone else and invited to a posh hotel to promote it lol. Awkward.
I really love social media in books and the way it can be manipulated to appear one way or another (when that’s not necessarily the truth). To make it even more interesting, there is a couple of mysteries in the story and obviously the possible romance. I really felt for Rosie, especially when she feels she isn’t fitting in etc. I thought the ending was great and I loved the setting of the book. I think you’d like the story if you like Scotland, luxury hotels and social media.

Summed up in a sentence?:
Social media influencer Rosie gets mistakenly invited to luxurious Highland retreat

I rated the book 3.75 stars (rounded up to 4).

Please note the copy I received was an uncorrected proof, so it is possible changes may occur in the book before publishing.

A big thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.

I love love loved this book! Such a sweet story with plenty of fantastic, and believable, comedy twists.

Rosie Winter has just landed a fantastic opportunity - to join a team of influencers at a Scottish castle's launch as a luxury spa hotel. The only problem is that she isn't an influencer - the similarly named Rosie Summers is, and "Wrong Rosie", as she becomes known, has accidentally received her invitation. She's quickly found out, after being locked in a sauna, but they agree she can stay - as the "gimmick" - and she's drawn into a competition to become the face of the hotel. But it's not as straightforward as taking a few photos, and she's soon drawn to the rugged no-nonsense Hunter, jack of all trades around the hotel, to help her figure out what exactly she's doing.

I've read all of Amber Eve's books - she's an autobuy author for me - so I was so excited to see that this one was going to be traditionally published and would have ARCs available, then even more excited when I got one!

The exploration of the influencer lifestyle was brilliant. I know Amber from back in the olden days of blogging, so I know that she understands what it is to be an influencer - but both of us talked in our blogs back then about this kind of imposter feeling which has clearly built a foundation for this book. If a couple of us felt this way, then maybe more did?! And that's exactly what happens here - you have one woman who is literally faking her way through, but the others all have their own little secrets about not 100% ticking all the boxes for being a perfect influencer. It was so realistic. Plus I liked that it wasn't looking down on influencing as a "fake" job - there were characters who thought this way but ultimately had their minds changed! It's a soapbox I'm very willing to take a stand on - influencers do a LOT more work than people think!

The romance between Rosie and Hunter was brilliant. It developed well throughout the book, and I adored the relationship with his 8 year old daughter in there too. Their relationship was funny and sweet.

The rest of the characters were also very well written. I always enjoy the motley crew of side characters in Amber's books as they're generally very well fleshed out and go through their own character developments and transformations. This was so true in this book, where you see each of the influencers, as well as the marketing manager who's organising the trip and the hotel manager, in a totally different light by the end of the book.

I highly recommend this read for a light, clean romance in a brilliant setting (as always, the author portrays Scotland in a perfectly realistic way too!).

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publishers for an ARC of this book.

Highland Getaway by Amber Eve – 4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Highland Getaway is a sweet, funny, and heart-warming romcom set against the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. The story follows Rosie Winter, a woman who has always believed that appearances and the perfect outfit can change everything. After accidentally being invited to an influencer retreat at a remote Highland castle, Rosie finds herself completely out of her comfort zone. Instead of glamour and luxury, she is faced with freezing lochs, cosy knitwear, muddy walks, and locals who are not impressed by social media perfection.

Things become even more complicated when she meets Hunter Stuart, a rugged and blunt Scotsman who constantly challenges Rosie’s outlook on life. As the story unfolds, Rosie begins to realise that happiness and personal growth come from genuine experiences and relationships rather than carefully curated appearances. Alongside the romance, there are also a few mysteries woven into the story which kept things interesting throughout.

I really enjoyed this book. From the very first scene where Rosie gets stuck in a train toilet, I knew I was going to like her character. It was genuinely funny and exactly the kind of awkward situation that feels relatable. Rosie gave me strong Bridget Jones-style vibes: clumsy, chaotic at times, but ultimately kind-hearted and always trying to help others.

The setting was one of my favourite parts of the novel. Amber Eve describes the Scottish Highlands beautifully, making the castle, lochs, and surrounding scenery feel atmospheric and immersive. The hotel being called Chrysalis was also a clever touch, symbolising Rosie’s journey of personal transformation as she slowly grows into a more confident and authentic version of herself.

The romance between Rosie and Hunter was enjoyable, with a satisfying slow-burn dynamic and plenty of chemistry. Their opposing personalities worked well together, and the rivals-to-lovers element added humour and tension throughout the story.

Overall, Highland Getaway is an uplifting and cosy romantic comedy filled with humour, charm, self-discovery, and a beautiful Scottish setting. Perfect for fans of slow-burn romance, mistaken identity stories, and feel-good romcoms.

I can’t tell you how excited I was to be part of this book tour because firstly .. LOOK at this cover. Absolutely stunning!

I love books set in Scotland, so I was already excited for Highland Getaway, but I honestly wasn’t expecting to love it quite this much. I’ve followed Amber Eve since her blogging days yet somehow had never picked up one of her books before now, and I am genuinely annoyed at myself for waiting so long. I loved this so much that I’ve already gone and ordered her entire backlist because I need more immediately.

One of my favourite things about this book was how authentic it felt. As a Scot, it’s always refreshing reading a Scottish romance actually written by a Scottish author, because it avoids all the usual clichés, stereotypes, and random words nobody here actually says.

The characters completely made this book for me. Every single one felt distinct and well-developed, even the ones I was actively raging at. Some characters were genuinely cruel, but they were written so well that it made the dynamics feel believable rather than overdramatic.

I especially loved Rosie and her growth throughout the story. There were moments where I really connected with her, particularly when she talked about feeling invisible, because that genuinely hit home for me. I also loved the way the book explored influencer culture and the contrast between online personas and who people really are behind the scenes. One character in particular comes across as sweet and supportive online while actually being horrible in real life, and I thought that aspect of the story was handled brilliantly.

I adored the relationship dynamics throughout the book, especially Rosie and Hannah’s relationship, which felt so warm and genuine. And Hunter seeing Rosie for who she really was, not just the version everyone else expected, honestly made my heart melt.

This was such an uplifting, heartfelt, funny read, and I absolutely flew through it because I never wanted to put it down. The little mystery woven through the story kept things interesting, the Scottish setting was gorgeous, and Stevie the dog absolutely deserved more page time.

Honestly, this was an absolute joy from beginning to end. Funny, relatable, emotional, comforting, and probably one of the most realistic portrayals of Scotland I’ve read in a romance novel.

5 stars and then some.

Thank you to NetGalley, Amber Eve, and Bonnier Books UK for the opportunity to read this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really resonated with Rosie. I think she’s a very realistic character. She’s always felt ‘out of place’ all of her life, and I feel a lot of people can relate to this feeling, myself included. I hated how she views herself because of being constantly put down. It’s so hard to break that cycle of thinking it’s true about yourself. She is a real genuine person, and despite how awful she’s been made to feel, she treats everyone how they SHOULD be treated. HOW people should have treated her.

Hunter is great, it’s really into the book and the sticks up for her straight away, making it clear certain remarks aren’t to be said. I liked how the MMC was the one to reiterate to people that they don’t speak that way here to people. We do get to see Rosie figure out who she wants to be and how to go out and get it. She shifts her priorities, putting herself first and not being a people pleaser. Hunter is alongside her on this journey, helping her see who she is, dismantling the ‘down in the dumps’ version that she views herself as.

The relationship that developed between Hunter and Rosie was lovely. It’s the relationship that we all want. Nothing is perfect in life, but in your relationship, you want there to be communication in the good and bad times. It’s a really important aspect I think people overlook sometimes, but Hunter and Rosie do a really good job of keeping communication open. They were a cute couple, and the foundation that they’d built executed it perfectly. It felt natural, as if it was always going to.

It’s a really interesting story, there’s a mystery element to the story, with a romance and a FMC building on herself.
I liked how this story is set in the Scottish Highlands, I thought this was a friendly change of scenery, not a big city life vibe.

This review has been written in exchange for this ARC from Netgalley - a huge thank you for taking a chance on me!

Amber Eve is one of my favourite authors of the current day, partially because she so reminds me of the late great Sophie Kinsella, but that shouldn't detract from how wonderful this book was.

Rosie Winter is incredibly likeable, not just from how she feels so out of place (as we all can feel sometimes) but also her genuine care for everyone around her, whether intentional or not. Not a single character is missed in this regard - she somehow manages to connect to each of them despite all of the antics she faces at The Chrysalis. Each moment felt both very earned and yet still realistic.

The mystery element was handled perfectly as well, in fact, the only thing else it could've done would've been to have a secret passage somewhere in the castle. The suspense genuinely gripped me and I had trouble stopping myself from reading on more every chance I got.

I'm attempting to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible, so I won't touch much further on the details, but I will stress that even though I did have correct guesses, I was very happy to be right - it didn't feel as though the fun was spoiled in any way.

As this is a romance book, I can't believe it's taken me until now to mention it. Rosie and Hunter might overtake Lana and Leo for my favourite couple from Amber's books so far - I loved the way they communicated and even with the ups and downs, there were both clear boundaries and absolutely swoonworthy moments that never felt over the top.

In summary, this book has my whole heart and as I've said of Amber's work before, I am desperate to know what happens next for Rosie and her life after this even though I loved this as just a great standalone. Can't wait for even more!

I absolutely loved this from the very first chapter.
It was funny, sometimes relatable, thrilling, and just overall heartwarming. It was a very easy read. Very tranquil. Small town. The author captured the highlands beautifully. You felt as if you were there, standing at the back of the hotel staring out into the valley beyond.

Although I did guess who the nephew of the Laird would be almost immediately, but it still didn’t make it any less shocking when it came about.

I loved how relatable Rosie was compared to the “influencers”. How real she was compared to those that weren’t and how deceiving online can actually be.
But then, she also gets to see that what they post online does come to a cost to themself. You just don’t see it.

From being the wrong Rosie to the right Rosie was wholesome. I loved how she accepted the invite despite it not actually being for her, in order to start her change. Then how things just got worse from there. It was quite comical.

The relationship between Rosie and Hunter didn’t quite feel real to me giving the timeline. (Which is why it’s only a 4 star for me) But nonetheless, it doesn’t distract you from the actual story.

I loved how we also got to see some character’s of the village becoming part of the story more as it goes on. It gave a found family feeling and the all togetherness of working and helping each other.

Overall it was a lovely read. Slow burn, no spice (but it didn’t need any) comical, self discovery, Scottish charm, leaves you open minded and satisfied.

E-book Review: Highland Getaway by Amber Eve
Published by: Bonnier Books UK
Publication Day: 6 October 2026
Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC!
A sweet and heart-warming romcom set in the Scottish Highlands, featuring a mistaken identity, a remote castle setting, and a grumpy-meets-sunshine romance that slowly unfolds against a backdrop of cosy chaos, mystery and self-discovery.
The story follows Rosie Winter, an influencer who finds herself unexpectedly at a castle retreat in the Highlands when invited by accident instead of another Rosie. What begins as a case of mistaken identity soon turns into a journey of personal growth, especially once she meets Hunter Stuart, the castle’s rugged and no-nonsense handyman. Their dynamic is filled with tension, humour, and gradual understanding, making this a satisfying rivals-to-lovers, slow-burn romance.
One of the strongest aspects of this book for me was the immersive setting, this may have been supported by the fact I read this while on holiday in the Scottish Highlands. The descriptions of the locations could have easily been places I have been previously in Scotland.
The themes of authenticity, self-worth, and stepping away from curated perfection were handled thoughtfully. I do not always like how influencers are written in books but Amber built these characters so relatably and with depth that I could really connect and believe them.

I will preface this by saying it quickly became apparent that this is not my genre of book.

To me, this book initially felt like a fantastical childhood dream. Rosie steps into the life of an influencer, in a world she's watched from the other side of a screen and she is showered in free products. However, Rosie's narration feels a bit pick me for a lot of this novel. She repeatedly emphasises how she is not like the influencers in appearance, appetite or mindset, to a point where it feels condescending rather than insightful.

The writing itself also felt very millennial in both the vocabulary and the tone, which I found quite grating and inauthentic.

For the first half of the book, Hunter appears to be almost magical constantly appearing whenever Rosie inevitably does something stupid (which is a lot). Rosie has a frustrating tendency to seemingly forget conversations that she has had with Hunter, only to blame him for for things that he had, in fact, spoken to her about mere moments before. On top of that, she also cannot make her mind up about anything at all.

The plot is overly predictable and leans heavily into clichés. Most of the characters were unlikeable, some on purpose sure.

I settled on 2 stars mainly because I did find Hunter had some nice qualities, even if he was a generic love interest.

I’ve not read anything by Amber before but will definitely be adding this author to my tbr.

This was a great story. And perfect for readers wanting rivals to lovers, slow burn and mistaken identity romances

When Rosie Winter is mistakenly invited to an influencer retreat in the Scottish highlands in a hotel, she jumps at the chance to go after being dumped.
She is of course found out for her deception shortly after arriving.

All the other influencers are well known and have a lot of followers. There is a competition between all of the influencers during their stay at the hotel.

Someone is making her feel very unwelcome with the tricks that they play on her but who’s responsible??

She grows closer to Hunter who is the handyman
Can she trust him? All the influencers and people from the village find out the secret that Hunter is keeping.

A bad storm happens and everyone is trapped at the hotel until the power is back. As they all try to clear up after the storm and organise the hotel launch party who will win the competition? What will Rosie decide to do now the competition is over? Will she go back to her life back home?

Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books for letting me read this in exchange for a honest review

📖 Highland Getaway
From the moment the story begins—with our main character literally locked in a train toilet cubicle—you just know Rosie is going to be a loveable, chaotic disaster (in the best possible way).
Rosie Winters is accidentally mistaken for influencer Rosie Summers and invited to promote a new hotel. Instead of coming clean, she decides to go along with it, hoping it might be her chance to change her life… which, as you can imagine, doesn’t go smoothly for long.
I really enjoyed that this book weaves in a light mystery alongside the romance, keeping you guessing about what’s really going on behind the scenes.
Hunter, our male main character, brings the classic grumpy energy we all love. He’s a single dad living at the hotel, with strong “quietly capable handyman” vibes that add to his charm.
Although marketed as a romance, this is very much a no-spice, feel-good story where the heart of the book lies in the local community and the effort to save the castle. The romance feels more like a bonus rather than the main focus.
Overall, it’s a warm, uplifting read that will leave you wishing you could escape to the Scottish Highlands. 🏔️✨

Rosie receives an invitation to a retreat at a remote Scottish Castle but it’s for someone else with a similar name. When Rosie decides to go will she find the new start she is hoping for?

I loved this book and whilst reading I wished I was in the highlands at the castle with the characters. This is a rom com novel which included a slow burn romance, forced proximity and the grumpy sunshine trope. It is a story about transformation and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

The concept of the story is what drew me to it and the idea of mistaken identity. Rosie receives an invitation meant for an influencer for an event at a highland retreat. Life hasn’t been going as planned so she packs up her life hoping it’ll change it. She hasn’t been there long when the truth is revealed but she is allowed to stay. What Rosie doesn’t realise is that this isn’t just a retreat but an influencer competition. But then things start to take a strange turn when she is locked in the sauna and her clothes go missing. It’s clear that someone is trying to sabotage her chances of winning but it’s unclear who.

Confidence is a theme that came across clearly in the story as Rosie does lack confidence and often often and wanting to disappear. She is shy especially in groups and is always on the periphery. It doesn’t help that some of the other influencers are unkind because they don’t consider her an equal. Although Rosie tries to be an influencer she struggles and so just starts to be herself. The one person that sees Rosie for who she is Hunter which is what I loved about him. He might be the grumpy to Rosie’s sunshine but as their closeness grows, they become quite attached to each other. But Hunter is hiding a secret from Rosie that could jeopardise anything from developing between them.

A cute read.

A brilliant rom-com /,mystery with a brilliant strong yet vulnerable heroine and a hunky, brooding hero.
Rosie is a wannabe influencer who has taken up an offer of a luxury wellness week retreat in the Scottish Highlands. She is desperate to get away from her boring job, and her current lack of home, thanks to her ex boytriend.
She is well aware that it is not HER that the retreat meant to invite, but she plans to try and fit in anyway.
When she arrives at the retreat, she quickly realises she is out of her depth, yet she finds her own way to bond with the other influencers, the villagers and the retreat staff.
Hunter isn't delighted about a bunch of influencers taking over the retreat. Especially when they get stuck in the sauna, and refuse to keep to their own areas of the hotel. However, he can't seem to keep away from Rosie, who doesn't seem to be like the other influencers, and is experiencing a series of strange happenings in her room...
I loved every page of this book. Every character is a winner, and the setting is stunning. It's funny and poignant and has plot twists galore.

Thank you NetGalley & Amber Eve for the opportunity to read an advanced reader copy of Highland Getaway!

I enjoyed this romcom/mystery by Amber Eve, it was a unique plot that I haven’t read before and was different to what I expected!
We follow Rosie who is invited to an early stay at an unopened hotel with a group of influencers, and they enter a competition to advertise the hotel to their followers.

I enjoyed that there was a mystery aspect to the plot, I wasn’t expecting it and it left me genuinely confused! I liked seeing Rosie’s personal growth and seeing her change and stand up for herself.
The characters all had some relatable aspects and I liked the truths they all faced in the book. Hunter wasn’t my favourite mmc, I don’t like how much he changed how much he either trusted /doubted Rosie, but I suppose realistically after 4 days that’s understandable.

The writing was easy to read and the plot was unique, it was written well to keep you guessing. The romance wasn’t spicy which was nice, it wasn’t needed, but again it felt very sudden for knowing each other for only a few days (but that might just be me).

I was really lucky to get an e-reader Arc for this book from NetGalley.
This book comes out in June.

I love the premise of the book, 5 influencers invited to a 5⭐️ hotel & spa. Rosie Winters accidentally got invited instead of Rosie Summers even though Rosie knew the invite wasn’t for her she decided as she had just lost her boyfriend & her home, that she would fake it to make it.

Poor Rosie had been bullied at school & in various other parts of her life so much so she had such a bad opinion of herself. Basically feeling like she was invisible to everyone.

Hunter is the groundskeeper of the hotel & they first meet when he is tasked with collecting her from the station, he then stands up for her while the others are putting her down. But it seems like everyone is keeping secrets.

I really enjoyed this a little predictable in places but that just made it funny. I have never read from this author before but will look out for more books from her.
Rosie to me was such a likeable character & Hunter & his daughter loved them too.

I received a copy of Highland Getaway in advance of publication thanks to Love Book Tours and the author Amber Eve. This is my honest review:

Rosie Winter is an inspiring influencer with just under 2k followers, she has just been dumped by her rotten boyfriend and is struggling for money when she gets an invitation to cover a launch event at a luxury 5 star hotel that is about to open in the Scottish Highlands. The invitation is actually for Rosie Summers who is a very popular influencer and sent to Rosie Winter by accident but she decides to go anyway!
She is collected from the Train station by the gorgeous Hunter who is the 'Handyman/ Gardener' at the hotel.
The other influencers are not particularly nice to Rosie initially but gradually as a storm hits the hotel they all grow a bond and love finds Rosie and Hunter.
What I really liked about this book is the message that not all is what it seems on social media. The 'perfect/ popular ' influencers all were not what they seemed online.
The book was easy to read, with nice short manageable chapters and a lovely flowing writing style.
The beautiful Scottish Highland setting was described really well and you were drawn into the setting. The characters were also well described and well developed.
The book has just the right mix of romance, a bit of drama and mystery and also it's a bit funny in parts.
I really enjoyed Highland Getaway and recommend this book

Thank you so much to Netgalley for allowing me the arc copy of this book!!

Amber Eve has gone and done it again with another 5 star book!

I absolutely love your books. They always make me feel every single emotion in a good way. I loved following Rosie through the chaos. From the very beginning “It’s just a shame I wasn’t actually invited on it…” all the way to the end.
Rosie reminds me slightly of Rebecca Bloomwood (Sophie Kinsellas Shopaholic) and she is one of my favourite characters in a book now Rosie is right up there with her!

I loved following her story with the invisible woman in the hotel this kept me guessing the whole time!!

I love how you describe scenes you make me feel like I’m in the story with the characters, I really need to get myself to the Highlands one day. Especially after following you on insta it looks beautiful.

Thank you so much. This was a huge deal to me to get to read your book before release. I would recommend your books to everyone!

Another fav quote… “Like Erin Brockovich or Moana” 🤣
