The perfect Scottish getaway. The wrong influencer. All publicity is good publicity . . . right?
Rosie Winter has spent her life believing that the right outfit can change everything - but when she's mistakenly invited to an influencer retreat at a castle in the Scottish Highlands, she's forced to swap designer dreams for cosy jumpers, freezing lochs and locals who see straight through her social media façade.
Most infuriating of all is Hunter Stuart, a rugged, no-nonsense Scot who seems determined to challenge everything Rosie thinks she knows about success, happiness and herself. As curated perfection gives way to chaos, muddy boots and Hunter's infuriating wisdom, Rosie realizes that real transformation doesn't come from looking the part - it comes from Scotland itself and the people who call it home.
A sweet and funny, heart-warming romcom set in a remote Highlands castle for fans of rivals-to-lovers, slow-burn and mistaken-identity romances.
Amber Eve is a former journalist who was born and raised in Scotland, and has been writing stories for her entire life. Her Heather Bay series is set in the Scottish Highlands, and follows the lives and loves of the inhabitants of this fictional coastal town.
Firstly thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this fab book.
I already really love Amber Eve’s book so was thrilled to get hold of this new addition .
The story is centred around down on her luck Rosie Winters. Recently dumped by her unpleasant boyfriend she is homeless and hurt. Her Instagram influencer career has not really taken off so she is bowled over when she has an invite to review a luxury highland Scottish hotel.
Only one problem …….. The invite is for the hugely popular influencer Rosie Summers but who is to know if she takes the invitation it’s an easy mistake to make ? It’s just a surname and she is a sort of influencer and she is off course called Rosie?
This is a lovely story of Rosie becoming her true self and not constantly trying to please everyone. Her friendship with ‘gardener and handyman’ Hunter is so sweet . He helps her start to see the real Rosie and not the broke and down on her luck version she sees.
The other characters are the sometimes very cruel influencers staying at the hotel. This book shines a light on what we want to see and what is really happening in the world of Instagram very well.
I really enjoyed this story and I couldn’t put it down . I look forward to listening to the audible version on its release
I totally give this book a glowing 5 stars and really hope you have the joy of escaping with Rosie to the beautiful Scottish highlands .
A massive thank you to NetGalley for approving me for Highland Getaway by Amber Eve.
4.5/5 star ⭐
This was so incredibly heartwarming, funny, and chaotically good. I couldn’t stop reading and read it all in one evening!!
Set in the highlands of Scotland, it brings in all the small town, grumpy sunshine goodness you can ever want.
It’s such an easy pace to follow and keep up with it, it just flowed. The characters all shine in their own ways and the development that they all have is so amazingly well written. It just feels like a natural progression for them.
I felt that the underlying tones of the story are what everyone feels like at least once in their life. Because trying to fit in is hard, and being invisible can be just as hard to be listened to as well. This is portrayed in such a way that you cannot help but root for Rosie and for her to come out on top. And be the person she knows she can be.
I will definitely be recommending this to people!!
I had actually pre-ordered this from Waterstones before I knew it was on NetGalley so when I saw it, I knew I had to have a cheeky little request and it was approved! it’s safe to say I don’t regrets the preorder and now I’m going to have a trophy for my shelf🫣
Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books UK for the advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
3 ⭐️ 🫑 (no spice)
Highland Getaway by Amber Eve is a no spice, cosy romance mystery set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. We follow Rosie, who has been mistakenly invited to an influencer prelaunch stay at the new Chrysalis hotel. Whilst staying in the luxurious castle, Rosie battles with her internal self esteem issues, as well as the snarky group of influencers who treat her like an outsider. Weird and mysterious things start happening to Rosie in the castle and she finds herself starting to trust the hotel’s handyman who always seems ready to help her and figure out what’s going on.
This was an easy read and I loved that I could get lost in the setting set out in the book. The author does a great job at vividly describing the beautiful castle grounds. Each member of the influencer party was distinct and interesting. I loved how relatable Rosie was (the normal girl vs the influencers) and how fake the influencer lifestyle is - what you see online can be manufactured as a way to influence people into certain decisions. My favourite thing about this book is it is genuinely funny. I could picture this as a romcom film in my mind and some of the things that happen made me actually laugh out loud.
For me, what let the book down slightly was the romance between Rosie and Hunter. Whilst I enjoyed both characters and found the development of their relationship sweet, I think the book is marketed too heavily as a romance book. Romance is certainly a storyline, however I would argue the mystery is an equally prevalent storyline. The plot reveals were very obvious and I could guess immediately who was behind everything, but I didn’t find this to be a problem because more and more mysterious things kept happening to keep me entertained. I found the last part of the book a bit too cheesey, however It would be very suited to readers who love hallmark movies!
📚 Book tropes: - mistaken identity - single dad - slow burn
I received this book from NetGalley and this book is available for pre order purchase from Amazon and is released on the 4th June.
Do you love a small town romance? If you do this book could really suit you. It gives wholesome vibes and is a very easy read. I read this in one day.
Rosie is a wannabe influencer whose life is in need of a revival and needs a bit of luck. Where better to try and find yourself than a 5 star retreat in the Scottish highlands. But is she cut out for the cut throat influencer life.
Highland Getaway was such an uplifting, heartfelt read — exactly the kind of story that quietly exceeds your expectations. I went in hoping for a cosy romance with some depth, and Amber Eve delivered something much richer than a simple feel‑good love story.
I really loved how much substance there is to the plot. The book explores relationships, personal growth, and emotional resilience in a way that felt relatable and genuine. Rosie’s journey pulled me in right away, and I appreciated how my opinions of different characters shifted as the story unfolded. That gradual change felt intentional and very cleverly written.
The only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars for me is the pacing in one particular emotional stretch. I initially felt so much sympathy for Rosie, but that section lingered a bit too long, while other moments felt slightly rushed and could have used more space. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment, but it did stand out.
Overall, though, this is a warm, engaging, and uplifting story that left me smiling. I’m really glad I picked it up.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
A feel-good Highland retreat with charm, chaos, and a touch of mystery.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Summary of plot: Rosie is fed up with her life. Raised by a single mother and reliant on hand-me-down clothes, she struggled to fit in at school—and those insecurities have followed her into adulthood. Now she’s been dumped by her boyfriend, is on the verge of having nowhere to live, hates her job, and has fallen into debt after using shopping as a form of escape.
When she receives a surprising email inviting her to a luxury spa hotel in the Highlands—seeking influencers ahead of its grand opening—she jumps at the chance. She hopes this four-day retreat will help turn things around.
But from the moment she arrives and is picked up by Hunter, the hotels employee, things begin to go wrong. Rosie becomes convinced that someone is out to get her. Meeting the other influencers only makes things worse—she immediately feels like she’s back at school, an imposter who is completely out of her depth. Now Rosie must navigate the trip, the strange events surrounding her, and her own self-doubt—but can she actually achieve what she set out to do?
My Review:
Highland Getaway is a wholesome, small-town, easy read. I picked it up mainly because it’s set in the Highlands—a place where we have relatives and somewhere I absolutely adore. The mountains, lochs, trees, fresh air, and castles all feel magical (even if it’s very cold!). The author captures the setting beautifully.
The plot is engaging from the start, using humour to help you warm to Rosie straight away. She has strong ‘Bridget Jones’ energy—relatable, awkward, accident-prone, but ultimately well-meaning. She’s desperate to fit in but has always felt invisible and unimportant. What she doesn’t realise is that Hunter does see her. As the days go on, Rosie begins to enjoy spending time with him. He encourages her to be unapologetically herself and to hold her head high—but she keeps getting in her own way. Their relationship is a gentle, slow-burn romance.
I was also really interested in the other characters. The influencers, despite their polished appearances, have just as many struggles as Rosie. She starts to realise that what people present online is far from reality—and begins to question whether she even wants to be part of that world.
Hunter, our male lead, is more of an isolated soul. He’s raising his daughter, working hard, and clearly cares for Rosie. When strange things begin happening to her, he becomes someone she turns to for help—but he has secrets of his own.
That said, there were a few things I struggled with. Rosie becomes very intensely invested in helping the hotel and the local community, and at times it felt unrealistic. She’s only there for a few days as an influencer, so her level of involvement didn’t quite ring true for me. While some of her mishaps were funny, I felt there were a few too many, and they became a bit overwhelming. By the end, I found them more frustrating than amusing—if I were the hotel manager, I might have asked her to leave!
I also found the portrayal of the village locals during their confrontation with the laird a little too cartoonish. While the book has comedic elements, this particular part lacked depth and felt slightly unrealistic.
Some plot points were predictable—although, to be fair, I didn’t guess the “whodunnit,” which kept things interesting.
Despite these critiques, I finished the book in under two days, which says a lot. I genuinely enjoyed it and found it hard to put down.
If you’re looking for a cosy, “U-rated” slow-burn romance (no spice), set in a tranquil and atmospheric location, with some laugh-out-loud moments and a hint of mystery, then Highland Getaway is definitely worth picking up.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review.
Rosie has had a run of bad luck and poor choices in her life and is in need of a fresh start. By chance, she receives an email inviting her to a pre-opening competition for influencers in the run up to a grand opening of a luxury spa hotel in the Scottish Highlands. Despite noticing that the email doesn’t actually have the right surname, and knowing there is a legitimate influencer with the name on the email, she decides to go—she doesn’t have many other options, and it temporarily solves her issue of having to vacate her flat with nowhere else to go. The next four days unfold in a whirlwind of mishaps, discoveries, and personal growth.
I ended up enjoying Highland Getaway far more than I expected when I first started it. Once it found its rhythm, it became a genuinely fun, feel‑good read with a good balance of warmth, light drama, and gentle humour. Although the story centres primarily on Rosie, we still get some nice development from the side characters. There are a few twists and turns along the way — some I found very predictable, others left me guessing to the reveal. At times, the timeline feels a little tight, especially regarding certain relationship developments—stretching the stay to a week might have added realism—but the consolidated timeline of events didn’t truly detract from my enjoyment.
The book is a great holiday read, nothing too taxing and easy to pick up and put down without remembering lots of intricate details. The imagery of the Scottish Highlands is inviting, and it left me feeling as though a rural spa retreat would be exactly the sort of escape I’d want myself. The book grew on me; once the comedic efforts settled, I found many moments genuinely funny and even laughed out loud once or twice. I also appreciated the inclusion of Stevie, the dog —stories with notable pets always get a bonus point from me! I’d have loved for Stevie to have an even bigger role!
Where I struggled was with the opening scenes. Rosie getting stuck in a train toilet, opening the door, and somehow falling straight out through an exterior door felt far too implausible—especially for anyone who’s ever spent time on a train, or in my case, worked in the train‑building industry. Toilet doors simply aren’t positioned opposite exterior doors, and the slapstick tone of the scene pulled me out of the story before I’d even fully settled into it. I feel the author could have conveyed Rosie being down on her luck just as effectively by having her stumble off the train overloaded with bags, without needing such an exaggerated setup.
Pre-release version notes: The book was well written and edited well. I only found 2 typos while reading and all components of the story helped move the narrative forwards.
Rosie Winter is ecstatic when she is invited to a prestigious retreat in the Scottish highlands, and she jumps at the opportunity. Only problem is, she wasn’t meant to be on the guest list - it is a case of mistaken identity. Not awkward. At. All… Rosie isn’t exactly the perfect fit for the retreat, she’s more a high heels sort of girl than muddy wellies, and the good looking (but exasperating) groundskeeper Hunter Stuart can see right through her. Will Rosie realise there are different ways to shine than just within her carefully curated life?
The Pros: 1) I love a book with the social media angle in it - I find it fascinating. Plus there is a competition in the story around this plot line. 2) There is a mystery (or two) 3) The setting is beautiful - the Scottish Highlands - plus the story is in a luxurious hotel 4) I was a fan of the ending
The Cons: 1) There are sadder parts for when Rosie doesn’t feel like she’s fitting in etc
The Quotes:
1) 'Let's do some quick icebreaker exercises first, shall we? Just to get to know each other, seeing as we're all going to be effectively living together for the next few days.' Excellent: that's two of my worst fears checked off, and we're not even finished breakfast yet.
2) He turns to leave, and then hesitates, looking back over his shoulder at me as if he's trying to make up his mind about something. 'You look very nice, by the way,' he says at last, his voice a little hoarse. 'So whatever that dress is saying about you, I ... well I agree with it.'
3) 'Men don't really have deep and meaningful conversations with their colleagues, Rosie. We just talk about the weather, and sometimes football.'
The Summary: I loved the premise for the book. Social media influencer Rosie gets mistaken for someone else and invited to a posh hotel to promote it lol. Awkward. I really love social media in books and the way it can be manipulated to appear one way or another (when that’s not necessarily the truth). To make it even more interesting, there is a couple of mysteries in the story and obviously the possible romance. I really felt for Rosie, especially when she feels she isn’t fitting in etc. I thought the ending was great and I loved the setting of the book. I think you’d like the story if you like Scotland, luxury hotels and social media.
Summed up in a sentence?: Social media influencer Rosie gets mistakenly invited to luxurious Highland retreat
I rated the book 3.75 stars (rounded up to 4).
Please note the copy I received was an uncorrected proof, so it is possible changes may occur in the book before publishing.
A big thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.
I love love loved this book! Such a sweet story with plenty of fantastic, and believable, comedy twists.
Rosie Winter has just landed a fantastic opportunity - to join a team of influencers at a Scottish castle's launch as a luxury spa hotel. The only problem is that she isn't an influencer - the similarly named Rosie Summers is, and "Wrong Rosie", as she becomes known, has accidentally received her invitation. She's quickly found out, after being locked in a sauna, but they agree she can stay - as the "gimmick" - and she's drawn into a competition to become the face of the hotel. But it's not as straightforward as taking a few photos, and she's soon drawn to the rugged no-nonsense Hunter, jack of all trades around the hotel, to help her figure out what exactly she's doing.
I've read all of Amber Eve's books - she's an autobuy author for me - so I was so excited to see that this one was going to be traditionally published and would have ARCs available, then even more excited when I got one!
The exploration of the influencer lifestyle was brilliant. I know Amber from back in the olden days of blogging, so I know that she understands what it is to be an influencer - but both of us talked in our blogs back then about this kind of imposter feeling which has clearly built a foundation for this book. If a couple of us felt this way, then maybe more did?! And that's exactly what happens here - you have one woman who is literally faking her way through, but the others all have their own little secrets about not 100% ticking all the boxes for being a perfect influencer. It was so realistic. Plus I liked that it wasn't looking down on influencing as a "fake" job - there were characters who thought this way but ultimately had their minds changed! It's a soapbox I'm very willing to take a stand on - influencers do a LOT more work than people think!
The romance between Rosie and Hunter was brilliant. It developed well throughout the book, and I adored the relationship with his 8 year old daughter in there too. Their relationship was funny and sweet.
The rest of the characters were also very well written. I always enjoy the motley crew of side characters in Amber's books as they're generally very well fleshed out and go through their own character developments and transformations. This was so true in this book, where you see each of the influencers, as well as the marketing manager who's organising the trip and the hotel manager, in a totally different light by the end of the book.
I highly recommend this read for a light, clean romance in a brilliant setting (as always, the author portrays Scotland in a perfectly realistic way too!).
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publishers for an ARC of this book.
Firstly, thank-you to the author/netgalley for the access to the advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review. Please note, this review will likely contain spoilers.
3 star review (if I could, I'd say 3.5) No spice/cozy romance.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Highland Getaway is a sweet, funny, and heart-warming romcom set against the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. The story follows Rosie Winter, a woman who has always believed that appearances and the perfect outfit can change everything. After accidentally being invited to an influencer retreat at a remote Highland castle, Rosie finds herself completely out of her comfort zone. Instead of glamour and luxury, she is faced with freezing lochs, cosy knitwear, muddy walks, and locals who are not impressed by social media perfection.
Things become even more complicated when she meets Hunter Stuart, a rugged and blunt Scotsman who constantly challenges Rosie’s outlook on life. As the story unfolds, Rosie begins to realise that happiness and personal growth come from genuine experiences and relationships rather than carefully curated appearances. Alongside the romance, there are also a few mysteries woven into the story which kept things interesting throughout.
I really enjoyed this book. From the very first scene where Rosie gets stuck in a train toilet, I knew I was going to like her character. It was genuinely funny and exactly the kind of awkward situation that feels relatable. Rosie gave me strong Bridget Jones-style vibes: clumsy, chaotic at times, but ultimately kind-hearted and always trying to help others.
The setting was one of my favourite parts of the novel. Amber Eve describes the Scottish Highlands beautifully, making the castle, lochs, and surrounding scenery feel atmospheric and immersive. The hotel being called Chrysalis was also a clever touch, symbolising Rosie’s journey of personal transformation as she slowly grows into a more confident and authentic version of herself.
The romance between Rosie and Hunter was enjoyable, with a satisfying slow-burn dynamic and plenty of chemistry. Their opposing personalities worked well together, and the rivals-to-lovers element added humour and tension throughout the story.
Overall, Highland Getaway is an uplifting and cosy romantic comedy filled with humour, charm, self-discovery, and a beautiful Scottish setting. Perfect for fans of slow-burn romance, mistaken identity stories, and feel-good romcoms.
Thank you to NetGalley, Amber Eve, and Bonnier Books UK for the opportunity to read this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really resonated with Rosie. I think she’s a very realistic character. She’s always felt ‘out of place’ all of her life, and I feel a lot of people can relate to this feeling, myself included. I hated how she views herself because of being constantly put down. It’s so hard to break that cycle of thinking it’s true about yourself. She is a real genuine person, and despite how awful she’s been made to feel, she treats everyone how they SHOULD be treated. HOW people should have treated her.
Hunter is great, it’s really into the book and the sticks up for her straight away, making it clear certain remarks aren’t to be said. I liked how the MMC was the one to reiterate to people that they don’t speak that way here to people. We do get to see Rosie figure out who she wants to be and how to go out and get it. She shifts her priorities, putting herself first and not being a people pleaser. Hunter is alongside her on this journey, helping her see who she is, dismantling the ‘down in the dumps’ version that she views herself as.
The relationship that developed between Hunter and Rosie was lovely. It’s the relationship that we all want. Nothing is perfect in life, but in your relationship, you want there to be communication in the good and bad times. It’s a really important aspect I think people overlook sometimes, but Hunter and Rosie do a really good job of keeping communication open. They were a cute couple, and the foundation that they’d built executed it perfectly. It felt natural, as if it was always going to.
It’s a really interesting story, there’s a mystery element to the story, with a romance and a FMC building on herself. I liked how this story is set in the Scottish Highlands, I thought this was a friendly change of scenery, not a big city life vibe.
This review has been written in exchange for this ARC from Netgalley - a huge thank you for taking a chance on me!
Amber Eve is one of my favourite authors of the current day, partially because she so reminds me of the late great Sophie Kinsella, but that shouldn't detract from how wonderful this book was.
Rosie Winter is incredibly likeable, not just from how she feels so out of place (as we all can feel sometimes) but also her genuine care for everyone around her, whether intentional or not. Not a single character is missed in this regard - she somehow manages to connect to each of them despite all of the antics she faces at The Chrysalis. Each moment felt both very earned and yet still realistic.
The mystery element was handled perfectly as well, in fact, the only thing else it could've done would've been to have a secret passage somewhere in the castle. The suspense genuinely gripped me and I had trouble stopping myself from reading on more every chance I got.
I'm attempting to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible, so I won't touch much further on the details, but I will stress that even though I did have correct guesses, I was very happy to be right - it didn't feel as though the fun was spoiled in any way.
As this is a romance book, I can't believe it's taken me until now to mention it. Rosie and Hunter might overtake Lana and Leo for my favourite couple from Amber's books so far - I loved the way they communicated and even with the ups and downs, there were both clear boundaries and absolutely swoonworthy moments that never felt over the top.
In summary, this book has my whole heart and as I've said of Amber's work before, I am desperate to know what happens next for Rosie and her life after this even though I loved this as just a great standalone. Can't wait for even more!
E-book Review: Highland Getaway by Amber Eve Published by: Bonnier Books UK Publication Day: 6 October 2026 Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC! A sweet and heart-warming romcom set in the Scottish Highlands, featuring a mistaken identity, a remote castle setting, and a grumpy-meets-sunshine romance that slowly unfolds against a backdrop of cosy chaos, mystery and self-discovery. The story follows Rosie Winter, an influencer who finds herself unexpectedly at a castle retreat in the Highlands when invited by accident instead of another Rosie. What begins as a case of mistaken identity soon turns into a journey of personal growth, especially once she meets Hunter Stuart, the castle’s rugged and no-nonsense handyman. Their dynamic is filled with tension, humour, and gradual understanding, making this a satisfying rivals-to-lovers, slow-burn romance. One of the strongest aspects of this book for me was the immersive setting, this may have been supported by the fact I read this while on holiday in the Scottish Highlands. The descriptions of the locations could have easily been places I have been previously in Scotland. The themes of authenticity, self-worth, and stepping away from curated perfection were handled thoughtfully. I do not always like how influencers are written in books but Amber built these characters so relatably and with depth that I could really connect and believe them. ⭐ Rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐.5
Advanced copy received via Netgalley. I will preface this by saying it quickly became apparent that this is not my genre of book.
To me, this book initially felt like a fantastical childhood dream. Rosie steps into the life of an influencer, in a world she's watched from the other side of a screen and she is showered in free products. However, Rosie's narration feels a bit pick me for a lot of this novel. She repeatedly emphasises how she is not like the influencers in appearance, appetite or mindset, to a point where it feels condescending rather than insightful.
The writing itself also felt very millennial in both the vocabulary and the tone, which I found quite grating and inauthentic.
For the first half of the book, Hunter appears to be almost magical constantly appearing whenever Rosie inevitably does something stupid (which is a lot). Rosie has a frustrating tendency to seemingly forget conversations that she has had with Hunter, only to blame him for for things that he had, in fact, spoken to her about mere moments before. On top of that, she also cannot make her mind up about anything at all.
The plot is overly predictable and leans heavily into clichés. Most of the characters were unlikeable, some on purpose sure.
I settled on 2 stars mainly because I did find Hunter had some nice qualities, even if he was a generic love interest.
I’ve not read anything by Amber before but will definitely be adding this author to my tbr.
This was a great story. And perfect for readers wanting rivals to lovers, slow burn and mistaken identity romances
When Rosie Winter is mistakenly invited to an influencer retreat in the Scottish highlands in a hotel, she jumps at the chance to go after being dumped. She is of course found out for her deception shortly after arriving.
All the other influencers are well known and have a lot of followers. There is a competition between all of the influencers during their stay at the hotel.
Someone is making her feel very unwelcome with the tricks that they play on her but who’s responsible??
She grows closer to Hunter who is the handyman Can she trust him? All the influencers and people from the village find out the secret that Hunter is keeping.
A bad storm happens and everyone is trapped at the hotel until the power is back. As they all try to clear up after the storm and organise the hotel launch party who will win the competition? What will Rosie decide to do now the competition is over? Will she go back to her life back home?
Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books for letting me read this in exchange for a honest review
📖 Highland Getaway From the moment the story begins—with our main character literally locked in a train toilet cubicle—you just know Rosie is going to be a loveable, chaotic disaster (in the best possible way). Rosie Winters is accidentally mistaken for influencer Rosie Summers and invited to promote a new hotel. Instead of coming clean, she decides to go along with it, hoping it might be her chance to change her life… which, as you can imagine, doesn’t go smoothly for long. I really enjoyed that this book weaves in a light mystery alongside the romance, keeping you guessing about what’s really going on behind the scenes. Hunter, our male main character, brings the classic grumpy energy we all love. He’s a single dad living at the hotel, with strong “quietly capable handyman” vibes that add to his charm. Although marketed as a romance, this is very much a no-spice, feel-good story where the heart of the book lies in the local community and the effort to save the castle. The romance feels more like a bonus rather than the main focus. Overall, it’s a warm, uplifting read that will leave you wishing you could escape to the Scottish Highlands. 🏔️✨
Thank you so much NetGalley and Bonnier Books UK for my ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!
A brilliant rom-com /,mystery with a brilliant strong yet vulnerable heroine and a hunky, brooding hero. Rosie is a wannabe influencer who has taken up an offer of a luxury wellness week retreat in the Scottish Highlands. She is desperate to get away from her boring job, and her current lack of home, thanks to her ex boytriend. She is well aware that it is not HER that the retreat meant to invite, but she plans to try and fit in anyway. When she arrives at the retreat, she quickly realises she is out of her depth, yet she finds her own way to bond with the other influencers, the villagers and the retreat staff. Hunter isn't delighted about a bunch of influencers taking over the retreat. Especially when they get stuck in the sauna, and refuse to keep to their own areas of the hotel. However, he can't seem to keep away from Rosie, who doesn't seem to be like the other influencers, and is experiencing a series of strange happenings in her room... I loved every page of this book. Every character is a winner, and the setting is stunning. It's funny and poignant and has plot twists galore.
I was really lucky to get an e-reader Arc for this book from NetGalley. This book comes out in June.
I love the premise of the book, 5 influencers invited to a 5⭐️ hotel & spa. Rosie Winters accidentally got invited instead of Rosie Summers even though Rosie knew the invite wasn’t for her she decided as she had just lost her boyfriend & her home, that she would fake it to make it.
Poor Rosie had been bullied at school & in various other parts of her life so much so she had such a bad opinion of herself. Basically feeling like she was invisible to everyone.
Hunter is the groundskeeper of the hotel & they first meet when he is tasked with collecting her from the station, he then stands up for her while the others are putting her down. But it seems like everyone is keeping secrets.
I really enjoyed this a little predictable in places but that just made it funny. I have never read from this author before but will look out for more books from her. Rosie to me was such a likeable character & Hunter & his daughter loved them too.
As someone who has lived in the Scottish Highlands for many years I am always a little apprehensive when I come across a romantic novel set there. Often times authors get many things wrong about life, culture and way of speaking. This book is the exact oppposite! It's a great example of how to write a perfect romantic story in the Highlands of Scotland.
I loved the characters! Rosie is a typical big city girl coming to the Highlands, thinking she knows better than the locals while at the same time being very open-minded. Hunter is a fantastic example of a grumpy guy turning out to be doing the best he can to help and protect his loved ones.
Many of the cultural references and the characters' exclamations remind me of my own life and what I have experienced as an outsider coming into a small Highland community. That paired with the life of influencers makes this story unforgetable. I wished there was more about Rosie and Hunter! (Let's hope for a sequel!)
Highland Getaway, gives real classic rom-com vibes; its a very cozy read with no spice.
We meet Rosie Winters (FMC) who is going through a really low time and is feeling very down. When she accidentally receives an invitation meant for a famous influencer, Rosie Summers to the opening of a fancy hotel in the Scottish Highlands; she makes a spontaneous decision to take her place. The only problem being, this Rosie is NOT and influencer.
As Rosie arrives at the stunning hotel, she ends up finding more than she bargained for, including a grumpy gardener.
I really enjoyed this story and would definitely recommend it!
Nobody's life is perfect even if it seems that way online! Rosie accidentally gets invited to an influencer hotel opening and accepts the invitation looking to transform her life. Instead, accidents happen to her and around her during her stay at the Scottish Highlands hotel. The book also has a broody love interest, Hunter, the other influencers who all have an angle of their own ,as well as a few other characters.
A light hearted romance (no spice), a little mystery made this a quick read.
This was my first time reading an Amber Eve book. IMO, if you like Sophie Kinsella books you'd enjoy this one too.
I really enjoyed this book, it was quite what I was expecting at all.
We had the romance and the hot outdoors Scottish gardener who also happened to be a single dad! 🥵
But on top of all that we had a little mystery going on with our FMC and it was one of those types where your not sure if she’s just being her typical clumsy lost self or if something more sinister is going on.
The whole book is just fun and lighthearted and even the mystery part is just funny and when you find out what was going on it was really good!
I really liked this book it was something different and with a very relatable FMC.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read it before it came out!
I knew it would be an easy read, but I had no idea I would like it as much as I did. Not a silly romance book for the sake of being romantic, it was so funny, very cute and wholesome!
As spineless as Rosie was at times, which annoyed me SO MUCH until half of the book, I could see my younger self in her quite a lot and it was very rewarding to see her growth towards the end.
(I am not someone to easily give 2+ stars to books, 3 stars is def up there as a really enjoyable read)
Thank you, NetGalley, Amber Eve, and publishers for this early edition of Highland Getaway.
I was surprised by this book as it came with a twist that wasn't your usual chick flick drama. I found the different pieces of the book intriguing and the characters, especially the old laird funny and relatable. I think the Highlands were captured well, and the weather certainly was portrayed correctly. I think this will be a cosy autumn read and I'm excited for everyone else to get their hands on this 🍂
The story had an intriguing premise and a beautifully atmospheric setting that kept me interested, and I enjoyed some of the emotional moments throughout the book. However, the pacing felt uneven at times, and I struggled to fully connect with the characters and their relationship development. Overall, it was a decent read with good potential, but it didn’t completely stand out for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books Uk for a copy of this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the first page! I expected it to be another typical romance set in the beautiful highlands, but it turned out to be so much more. The plotline about social media and influencing is fascinating — it’s both current and thought-provoking. The twists and turns kept me hooked until the very end. Highly recommended for anyone who loves unexpected surprises and a feel good romance!
It's cosy, entertaining and with a tad of mystery. There are plenty of comedic side characters and I loved my boy Stevie. I enjoyed the romance between Rosie and Hunter. There were some instances which brought up a lot of second hand embarrassment though, which I personally just don't find enjoyable to read, hence the three stars.
