My name is Zayn Bronsyn, and I think I screwed up.
I wasn’t supposed to fall, especially not for her. She’s in a league of her own, and I’m just her brother’s scumbag friend.
The last time I saw her, she was thirteen with braces. Now, she’s back from boarding school, with an hourglass body that’ll bring me to my knees.
If Easton finds out I hooked up with his sister, he might actually kill me. She’s too innocent, too perfect for a guy like me, but I can’t resist dragging her into my messed up world.
Amelia Donovan might be the one to revive my blackened heart.

CORRUPT MY MIND: is the first full length romance book in the series 'Nother Haven University', by Author Kelsey Clayton. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'
Hotty on the cover ✔︎ Tattooed bad boy ✔︎ What more could a girl ask for!!
This book has just reinforced exactly why Kelsey Clayton is my go to unicorn author, anything she writes, I will read, everything she writes turns to gold, from the bad boy book boyfriends we all chase, to the angsty feels, she delivers time and time again. This book pulled me so fast out of my book funk, once started I was hooked, throw in a tatted up bad boy and I was in my happy place, add in the best friends little sister and those little forbidden kisses, glances, sexual encounters had my heart full, swooning, and loving everything this author threw into this book!
Amelia has had a crush on Zayn forever, “The first boy who put butterflies in my stomach. The only boy to ever steal my heart. My brother's best friend.” the last time they'd clapped eyes on each other was when she was thirteen with braces and following them around everywhere like a lost puppy. And then she'd gotten a scholarship ride in middle school to attend a prestigious boarding school in North Carolina.
Now she's back on their turf enrolled at NHU, she's not so little and gorgeous but still under the thumb of her over protective brother Ethan who still treats her like a child, but she's not going to let him get in the way of her wanting to experience everything Uni has to offer.
She still harbours a crush on Zayn and when he sees her for the first time he's more than tempted to cross that line with her.“This girl has managed to take over every inch of my being, and there isn't a damn thing I can do to change it. She's got me— lock, stock, and barrel. ” But like most love stories this one is a tumultuous bumpy ride, buckle up, prepare yourselves to be immersed in a slow burn that will steal your every breath and leave you gasping for more.
DNF after 20% Way too ◾ Immature content ◾hot and cold (characters) ◾ Wattpad-ish story
No connection with the story or the characters. No one seemed to be doing what they actually wanna do .... instead keeps on pretending, which I for a fact CANNOT tolerate.
There's nothing wrong with this book other than it was painfully boring and felt very wattpady to me.
Amelia has had a perpetual crush on Zayn since she was little, but he has never seen her as nothing more than his best friend's little sister, even when they were only a year apart. That is until she came back from boarding school looking more beautiful than ever so much so that Zayn couldn't keep his eyes and hands to himself, but knowing that he couldn't mess with his best friend's little sister he tried to stop it. Tired of the push and pull, Amelia wanted to take matters into her own hands which led to both of them a series of DUMB decisions, such as getting involved with her brother's drug dealer, who is basically a psychopath.
When I say this felt wattpady I mean the bad side of that site because I know there are some things that are worth it. The characters are the angelic and smart girl, and the bad boy with tattoos and a motorcycle who does everything for his friends, so nothing new here besides the fact that they changed their personalities every chapter. Regarding the writing style, I swear that at least half of the chapters started with "when I woke up" or "when my alarm went off", and also every single chapter was cut into several unrelated moments so the story felt cut. And as for the plot, everything revolved around the drug dealer of Amelia's brother, who even threw a Molotov cocktail inside her college dorm and whom Zayn tried to kill and was ready to go to jail in order to save their loved ones, so it was all very dramatic to be just a story between college students, but it wasn't something exciting to read. Also, this is a spin-off but it relied a lot on the main series, stealing the focus of the main couple and being more interesting the story of those characters who already have a book. And finally, this had a little bit of humor, but it wasn't good for my liking and it's not something I would joke about or find funny but whatever.
I already know that the second book is a second-chance romance and that's kinda my thing, but this didn't give anything away about the next story and if it's anything like this honestly I don't think I'll read it.
Corrupt My Mind is the first book in the North Haven University series by Kelsey Clayton. Told in dual perspectives, this is Zayn Bronsyn and Amelia Donovan's story. This best friend's little sister, slow burn romance hooked me right from the start and never once let me go. I simply could not get enough of these two.
Zayn is enrolled at NHU along with his best friend Easton. He hasn't seen Easton's little sister since she was thirteen, wearing braces and following them around everywhere. She was accepted into a prestigious boarding school in North Carolina, but now she's back and joining them at NHU. Gone is the sweet and innocent little girl he remembers and, in her place, a beautiful woman with a perfectly tight, curvy body. Staying away from her proves to be quite the challenge for him, but he has to do it. He doesn't want to ruin his friendship with Easton or possibly mess up his newfound sobriety.
Amelia has had a crush on Zayn forever and now that they're both at NHU, she's excited to see him again. The only problem? He's never seen her as more than just Easton's little sister. She has come to accept that but when these two see each other again, all bets are off. One stolen moment turns into more than just friendship, but there are obstacles that must be overcome. One of course is Easton himself, but another is a major secret that Zayn is withholding. One that is dangerous and could very well get them both killed.
I absolutely love this new world that Kelsey has created. We see many faces that we've met before but now they're older, and there's more of an adult theme here. This superbly written story ticked all of my boxes. I loved the realness of this story. I loved these characters, and the journey that they took us on. Their forbidden feelings for each other pulled me in. Their love for one another poured off the pages and into my heart. Once I reached the last page, I didn't want to let them go. I loved this book so much and can't wait to see what's in store for us next! Five stars for Amelia, Zayn and Corrupt My Mind!
DID ZAYN JUST RUIN ME FOR ALL MEN!?!?! IS HE MY NEW KNOX?! KELSEY! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!! Corrupt My Mind was EVERYTHING I love about Kelsey Clayton- complicated characters, scorching heat, soulful chemistry, angst, and a captivating story. But Keley has also upped her game in this spin off series as we see these adored characters shift into adulthood. The stakes are higher, the emotions more complicated, and the obstacles more dark and dangerous. I binged this in one sitting- I just could not put it down. Corrupt My Mind is complicated, passionate, unpredictable, and angsty, all with a sweet and innocent love story at its core. I simply loved it.
Our story starts out as a classic best-friend’s brother taboo- Zayn, best friend of our beloved Knox from the Saint, is now in college at North Haven University, rooming with one of our other Knox crew members Easton. Easton’s little sister Amelia (who is actually not much younger than them) is now also there- a fact Zayn discovers serendipitously when he finds himself attracted to a mysterious bombshell at one of their infamous parties. Turns out- it’s sweet Amelia, and Easton’s sister is no longer the little sister tag along that Zayn remembers from growing up. Even worse- Amelia has grown up into a confident, sassy, and unflinchingly honest woman- she has a body and mind that captivate Zayn. But she’s off limits- not only is she Easton’s sister but he’s also doing whatever he can to not disrupt Easton’s tenuous recovery after a dark period (that folks will recognize as the fallout of events from The Rebel). But Amelia has always had a crush on Zayn, and in an unexpected act of bold vulnerability, these two connect in a way that is forbidden. And that complicates everything- because Easton is actually the least of their worries. Zayn’s secrets are dark and sinister and dangerous-and he’d do anything to protect those he loves….and Amelia, well Amelia might very well be on that list.
ZAYN! MY HEART. I’ve loved him since Haven Grace prep because there was something so inherently sweet about him- something soft and vulnerable. This is a man with a hard edge exterior- skull tattoos and that tough guy persona- but he’s by far the most emotionally, most vulnerable, and most soulful hero Kelsey has given us yet. He’s DIFFERENT. For starters- he’s redeemable from the start. He’s not a jerk, not a hero that wrongs the heroine because he can’t get over his own stuff. IN fact, he’s refreshingly uncomplicated, because his downfall isn’t his own personality shortcoming or his own baggage-it is his friendship and love of others. He’s altruistic and noble- his darkness, his issues all come because he wants to help others, guard them with his love. And that is what makes Zayn so special- he’s drowning, drowning because he’s trying to save others, and in doing so, he sacrifices parts of himself. And that makes him feel like a villain- even though his reasons are pure, are noble. I could not love this many anymore than I do. He is too good for the world- with a tender and pure heart that touched my soul. He is by far the most inherently GOOD hero we’ve read from Kelsey.
And I loved Amelia- she definitely has a naivete and young spirit to her that juxtaposes to the very adult situations Zayn is living in, but she’s self-confident and self-assured despite her limited life experience. I found her spitfire honestly and outgoingness refreshing- she knows what she wants, and she’s not scared to pursue it. And she wants Zayn- she sees the magic that we do. I loved getting to watch her blossom as a young adult- loved watching her break out of her “perfect” girl mold she felt trapped in. She’s assertive and an open communicator- and that was so nice to see in a heroine. And she’s also just overflowing with love and compassion- she has so much heart to give, and when the one person you want to pour all your love into won’t love you back? Ugh- I felt her hurting heart and her long as if it were my own. She’s desperate to love and be loved- and that driver makes her so relatable and empathetic as a character.
The romance here is actually pretty straight forward- the obstacles and tension comes less from their feelings, which are pretty clear, and more the barriers that forever prevent them from acting on their feelings or their hang ups- rather its the other people and the troubling context and secrets that swirl around them. And the chemistry is somehow both sweet and sexy. This is a SLOW burn- and Kelsey really nailed the longing aspect of this story. These two have known each other for so long, you immediately feel a stability to their connection, because they have a history that makes their interconnection unbreakable, even if it started as platonic. But that delicate and aching longing you feel- that pull of two souls who need and want each other but just can’t clear the path to do so? Ugh, I could not stop reading because I needed these two creatures to find a way.
And they do find a way- but it is NOT easy. These two have to learn that mistakes don’t make you less worthy- mistakes are part of being human, part of being an adult. What makes you worthy is how you grow, how you adjust and respond- even if you’re a little bit lost in the chaos of your mistakes. But loving someone- opening your heart, makes it easier to find a way forward. Zayn thinks he’s going to corrupt Amelia- with his “badness”, but really it’s her that “corrupts” and alters his mind. They both free each other from the mindsets they have about themselves- they see each other.
Fans should know Knox WOWS in this book. He’s the true MVP of this romance. I loved getting to see how he’s evolved as a character, and the way he catalyzes this story is charming and powerful. The relationship between him and Zayn gave me all the fangirl feels, but even more, it helps me understand Zayn and love him even more- and it also helped Zayn understand himself. See himself and his actions differently- and it makes all the difference.
Kelsey also brilliantly sets us up for a whole new world. While we have characters we’ve met before in this series, we’re seeing a darker and more adult vibe. Teens are now living on their own, caring for each other and operating as families with a new level of maturity. We see that here with Zayn especially. And, we see the glimmers of darkness Kelsey is going to bring to this series. The stakes are higher, as Zayn’s secrets reveal, and we have characters dealing with heavier, more disturbing, and more complex baggage- not just Easton, but Jace and Carter clearly have some STUFF we’re gonna dig into. Kelsey smarty resets the tone and also helps us start to see these characters with new eyes- eyes that will continue to be opened in new books. I can already tell this series is going to be gut wrenching and emotional and darker and EPIC. I can not wait for more!
This is the first book that I've read by Kelsey Clayton and I'm looking forward to read more of her books especially future books from this series.
"Corrupt My Mind" is a college romance with brother's best friend/best friend's sister tropes.
Amelia is a female character who has been in love with her brother's best friend Zayn since she was a teenager, who of course didn't notice her until she came back from boarding school.
Zayn is a male character who never thought he liked his best friend’s sister, but when that happens his world changes fundamentally.
Amelia and Zayn's relationship is forbidden which makes it so sweet!
If you're looking for a college romance and you also love Kelsey's writing style, then you should give a try this book!!!
This girl has managed to take over every inch of my being, and there isn't a damn thing I can do to change it. She's got me— lock, stock, and barrel.
'Corrupt My Mind' is the first book of the 'North Haven University' series by the best selling author Kelsey Clayton. Told in dual Perspectives , get ready to meet Zayn and Amelia!!
Kelsey Clayton is the literal queen of Contemporary Romance! This book had all the parts I could ask for! There were hot scenes , the vulnerable ones and the mysterious ones too. This book was the whole package for me!
Zayn has Enrolled into North Haven University with his best friend Easton. He gets a surprise when he comes to know that Easton's little sister has Also enrolled there. He dismisses that news because he clearly thinks of her as the little girl who used to follow him everywhere when they were kids. But boy , do his thoughts fly out of the window when he first sees her. Gone is the little girl and in her place is a woman with a body beautiful enough to bring a man to his knees and a mind just as sharp! Suddenly , staying away from her is the most difficult thing ever , but he has to do it because he values his friendship with Easton too much.
Amelia is happy to have enrolled to a new place. She will get to meet new people as well as the old one. There is only one person whom she is nervous of meeting. Zayn , her big Brother's best friend. She has always had a crazy crush on him but he never saw her as something more than his best friend's sister. Not to mention , that Easton would castrate him if he ever tried anything. But Amelia gave hope on that a long time ago. But , she has obviously not over her crush , because she makes a complete fool of herself when she stutters like a fool when he talks to her. Further stolen moments lead them being more than friends. But they have so many problems to overcome. Easton being one of the major ones and then there is Zayn who has his own big secrets. Secrets that could get him killed.
This book has definitely been the highlight of this month for me! I absolutely loved it and the witty banter in this book had me laughing and swooning all at once. A definite recommendation to all the contemporary romance lovers out there who are interested in themes like Brother's best friend!!
This protective and possessive alpha male is going to take your bad boy crush to a whole new level! Zayn is the college guy we all crushed on.
She’s loved him for as long as she can remember, but he’s always treated her like his best friend’s little sister. Now she’s at his college and she’s ready to get her guy. A friends to lovers romance between a girl who’s come into her own and the guy who is willing to do anything to make her happy and keep her safe.
Zayn is the kind of friend we all need. Self-sacrificing to a fault. He saved Easton’s life and now he’s continuing to pay his debt. Then comes Amelia and she is not what he expected. The awkward thirteen year old girl has turned into a confident, beautiful woman he can’t stop thinking about. But she’s off limits. She’s not only Easton’s little sister, but he’s not willing to tarnish her with his filth. He knows she’s too good for him and all baggage that he’s dealing with.
Amelia has only ever seen Zayn. He’s the dream she never thought would come true. However, when opportunity presents she’s ready to put her heart on the line. She’s the smart girl ready to spread her wings and embrace what college life has to offer.
If only things could be easy for them. Insert the villain and a happily ever after becomes nearly impossible. Zayn has no chill when it comes to protecting Amelia. He will sacrifice everything to keep her safe. She'll do anything to make him hers. The only way for them to have it all is to do it together.
This forbidden romance brings sexy characters, heightened sexual tension and a bad boy with a big heart who will stop at nothing to protect his loved ones. The steam factor hits an all time high with Amelia and Zayn. They will face their struggles and you may want to throw this book at times, but it's worth all the angst as they figure out their path. This is a great start to this spin-off series of some of my favorite characters. I loved getting my Knox fix because all your favorites will make an appearance and I cannot wait for the next.
this suffers from the stupid stubborn heroine syndrome. Of course she wouldn't listen when people are telling her the guy is bad news because she is such a smart and independent woman. Especially when she gets abandoned at the police station by said guy. Very smart and very independent. Does Kelsey Clayton know how to write any other type of heroine?

THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK CORRUPT MY MIND BY KELSEY CLAYTON.
GENRE:CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE. AUTHOR:KELSEY CLAYTON. TYPE: BOOK #1 OF NORTH HAVEN UNIVERSITY...CAN BE READ AS STANDALONE. POV: DUAL PERSPECTIVE. MY RATING: 5 HOT STARS. This is the first Installment in the North Haven University focusing on Zayn and Amelia's twisted story. Amelia has always held a torch for Zayn, her brother's best friend. But he has always seen her as just his best friend's little sister...with her braces and all. Then she got her way into a school out of town and they never meet. But when she is back, she is totally different ...no more the little girl with braces who used to follow Zayn around everywhere. Now, she has to turn out to be a beautiful woman with a body to die for. The tables has turn and this time Zayn is going to have a hard time keeping his hands to himself...but when his friend is at stake...He has got to choose between love and loyalty.
O.M.G...First of all, I am regretting never reading a book by this author before because god she has slayed me with Zayn and Amelia's story...I mean I have always loved a Forbidden Romance but this is like the second level...The secret-keeping, the forbidden moments with each other, the hiding, the kisses in the dark...all just pulls you in..and add a brother's best friend and a tatt hot guy... you are gonna be busy reading this bad boy whole weekend.
This book gave me so many rush of feelings...I laughed, cried, got frustrated with the characters...like come on...give up your egos already...you are made for each other... the chemistry between them is off the chart hot...and when the secrets are out...god help them coz...she has got a hell of an overprotective brother... but all is well when the ending is well..so I am satisfied....more than satisfies from this book...
"Never underestimate a good girl with a devilish grin."
Kelsey Clayton has the ability to never deliver the same story a second time... Every book has a different trope and i loved that, and even though all her books started off as a little plain and vanilla, then they go on top and you can't believe what are you really reading! I love how she is turning things around in each book and she is splashing in them a lot of something dark, dangerous and sinister... And even though she is making me love the main couple, at the same time, she is making me craving the secondary characters like crazy and this story is one of these things... Zayn winked to me since "The Saint" and i wanted his story so badly. And here we are...
"It's like I'm trapped. There's no way out. Nothing I can do..."
This was in a way a forbidden story, a best friend's sister thing, byt it was also so much more than that... Zayn had the bad boy vibe (sexy, full of tattoos, riding a motorcycle), but he was anything but bad... He was a fiercely loyal and protective and he could do anything for the ones he loved... And he proved it to us in here, over and over again... The only thing that is not helping his case is Easton's little sister who's coming back to town after a long time away in a bording school!!! Instantly, there is attraction between these two, but Easton is standing in their way. Him and some other things that I won't tell you!!!
"Amelia is everything I never knew I wanted. She restarts my heart just with a single look. The sweet, innocent girl I remember was already captivating, but this spitfire she's become is something else entirely, and I want to get drunk on it."
Amelia was a good girl and a perfect student and she could go in every college that she wanted, but she had missed home and her family, so she is enrolling into the same college as her brother... She just want to not be so perfect all the time and to live a little... Of course, Zayn is not doing it easy on her, since she is in love with him for almost all her life and now, she is wishing for things to change between them... But there are always things standing on their way and Zayn's once cold and once hot behavior doesn't help at all!!!
"The likehood of him hurting me, shattering me into a million pieces really, is so high it's almost a guarantee. And still, I'm standing here- hoping one day he'll love me."
So what will happen between Zayn and Amelia??? The truth is that Zayn is in too deep shit and in order to protect Amelia, he is creating a mess... As for Amelia??? Because she is hurt, she is making irrational decisions who could turn out very badly for her and the ones around them... I really can not accuse Zayn for his actions... Everything he did was in order to protect her!!! But I'm pissed with Amelia for acting like a brat many times throughout the book...
"I may be in love with her, but I'm nothing but her brother's scumbag friend. No matter how hard I try to rewrite our fate, the truth is that's all I was ever meant to be."
Well, I enjoyed AND this story by Kelsey Clayton and honestly, I can not wait for more... Kelsey had really picked my interest for Jase in here and I'm impatient about his story... And Carter's, but this is a story for another time. If you haven't picked a book by this author, you don't know what you're missing!!! She's goooood!!!
"I can't want you, Meelz." "Why not?" "Because you have the power to break me. To bend me into a man I'm not. You deserve your own Prince Charming, and I'm nothing but a villain."
**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review.Thank you!"
Zayn cannot believe his eyes when he sees his friend's little sister - she's all grown up and she's GORGEOUS. Where is the little girl who used to follow them around incessantly? All he knows is that she's a knockout. And he also knows he'd never do anything about it because he's no good for her, not for the sweetheart, innocent that she is.
Amelia has long had a crush on her brother's friend. She's determined to get him to see her as not just his friend's little sister, though. And now that he looks like he wants to eat her up, she's going to make him do something about it. But what if Zayn's friendship with her brother is in the way? And what if Zayn's demons are too much for her to get past? Will Zayn push her away for what he thinks is her own good?
I loved Zayn and Amelia together. These two have such a hard road to travel before they find happiness, but I think it made them all the stronger for the struggles they went through. Sexy, a bit angsty, and a fast paced storyline - I think it's my new favorite by Kelsey. And now I can't wait for Jace's story, Change My Game.
ARC via Wildfire Marketing Solutions for an honest review.
Kelsey Clayton has written another star-studded and soul-slashing love story that slays! Corrupt My Mind blew me away! The smolder ... the swoon ... the tension ... the terror ... and the everlasting love that binds this book together are EVERYTHING! This heart-melting friends-to-lovers romance with delectable character chemistry, dreamy dialogue, and nail-biting danger was my sweetest addiction. Corrupt me please!
It started with the Saint, my introduction into Kelsey Clayton’s utterly addictive Haven Grace Prep world, which has now morphed into the North Haven University universe. I went to high school and am now at college with these heroes and heroines. These characters have quickly become my family. As far as I know, they are real.
While Kelsey writes strong heroes, it’s the even stronger heroines who bring these men to their knees. Oh did I fall head-over-heels for the strong, stunning, and selfless soulmates, Amelia and Zayn, whose story was destined to end together. Zayn is as stubborn as he is selfless though, and I wanted to shove him against Amelia and wake him up! The hero and heroine have a combustible connection, a magnetic bond that bursts, and I felt them and their story so much. Amelia and Zayn were created for each other—a fusion of fate and feels—so perfect together.
The slow burn of a build-up ... the palpable push and pull ... the dance with danger, and the undeniable attraction and destiny to be one ... UTTER ADDICTION! Corrupt My Mind dominates with every word, and I was under its spell the whole time reading. An irresistible tale of fated love, loyalty, self-acceptance, and soulmates. My heart is so owned by Kelsey Clayton’s passionate, pulse-pounding prose. Pure perfection.
This book is the first book in the North Haven University series but it has a lot of characters & mentionings of things that happened in a previous series, Haven Grace Prep. I didn’t realize that before I started this so I immediately felt disconnected from the story. If you’ve kept up with this series, my review may be way off base for you. But in my opinion, you should be able to read series like these, where every book is a different couple, as if it’s a standalone and I didn’t feel like that here. Okay, since this review is going to be pretty low, I’m going to start out with the good things. Don’t worry, this won’t take long. The book is well written, no grammatical errors, easy to read, flows well. I liked how the FMC, Amelia, had a backbone. She wasn’t a heroine that couldn’t take a hint and she was quick to stick up for herself. Zayn was a good guy. Like, a really good guy. Which brings me to the bad part of this review. Zayn is described as a bad boy. Trouble. A degenerate. But I never understood why. Because he’s got tattoos and smokes pot? I mean, good god that makes almost everyone I know a “bad” person. Zayn was almost TOO good. He put everyone before himself, was willing to ignore his feelings for Amelia because he didn’t want to risk upsetting his best friend. He made everyone’s problems his to the point where he was hurting himself. Self-care, my man, look it up. And Amelia. For someone who was so smart that she got a scholarship to a prestigious boarding school, the girl was delusional. Because her CHILDHOOD CRUSH who was her BROTHERS BEST FRIEND told her he couldn’t fuck her, she goes and snags the first bad boy she sees. And Blade actually WAS a bad boy. But does Amelia believe a guy she’s known her whole life when he tells her that her new boyfriend is bad news?? NO SHE LETS HER HURT FEELINGS GET HER IN A BAD, AVOIDABLE, STUPID SITUATION. Overall, the book was boring and I didn’t feel a lot of chemistry between the main characters.
After four long years of being away, I'm finally going to see him again. The first boy who put butterflies in my stomach. The only boy to ever steal my heart. My brother's best friend.
Corrupt My Mind is the first book in the all new North Haven University series, featuring the brother‘s best friend/college romance of Amelia Donovan and Zayn Bronsyn. It’s been four years since they last saw each other and now they are at the same college, the boy who stole her heart and his best friend’s kid sister who now is very much all grown up. It’s wrong, she deserves better than him and her brother would kill him....but she’s making it impossible to walk away. He was never supposed to touch her and he definitely wasn’t supposed to fall for her, bringing her into his world is the worst thing he could ever do. Can he protect and keep her at the same time OR will he be forced to give her up to keep her safe?
“You turned me into this desperate girl I never wanted to be, who would burn alive just for an ounce of your attention, and I hate myself for that.”
This is my first book by Kelsey, having a few of the original series this one was created through on my TBR. I’m not sure how this made it to the top of my TBR list so fast but I decided there was no better time to try her out than the present. The premise was interesting and I found myself immediately intrigued by the characters within, I can honestly say I did enjoy the read. With that said though, I do think it would’ve been better for me and easier to connect to had I read the series this spun off of....even so, there were some issues I had that kept it from being 4-5 stars.
Book Facts: Told in: Dual POV, present day with minimal short time jumps to the past to set up their connection. Type? An interconnected standalone part of the spin off series from the Haven Grace Prep series, featuring the same characters as well as new ones. This book features a new couple (although they may be familiar characters to those who have read Haven Grace Prep books). Triggers: Drug use/addiction discussions (involving secondary characters) and violence. Ends in: HFN ending for couple with overall story continuing with another couple in next book.
The Main Players: Amelia Donovan: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 She's pure white silk—soft, untainted perfection—and I'm solely made up of black tar. I'd only ruin her.
Zayn Bronsyn: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 The fire in his eyes is like nothing I've ever seen. There's torment behind them. The kind that keeps someone up at night, but they hide it for the sake of others. The kind I want to learn like my favorite book.
What I liked: ❤️The one thing that really stood out from the start were the established characters that were part of this one.....some have already had their own stories and gotten their HEAs while others haven’t, but I found myself almost desperate to get to know them more through the Haven Grace Prep series (and the installments to come in this one). I loved the world she created for these characters and I’m definitely planning to read more.
❤️I didn’t love or even like everything about Zayn, but one thing that cannot be denied or overlooked is how good of a person he is. And I’m not even talking about in the romantic kinda way even though he very much is..... “You shouldn't give something so special to someone like me,” I tell her. “This isn't how this is supposed to happen.” ....no, it’s even more admirable the things he does for this friends and those he cares about. “Mine,” he says, walking into the room. “E.” He shakes his head. “You've done enough to protect me, Z.” His selflessness and dedication to his boys was something I swooned over quite often in this one.
❤️Just like with Zayn, I wasn’t a fan of everything Amelia.....however her fire? That was something I could totally root for and get behind. I loved that she may have put up with some things she shouldn’t have or seen things that were right there but didn’t, however she never hesitated to take up for herself or put anyone in their place..... “I don't know who you think you're threatening, but come near me again, and I'll make sure everyone knows exactly who you are,” I spit. .....you don’t have to like her, but there is no denying she’s the kind of heroine that didn’t go for the disrespect and only “bent” when it was on her own terms.
What I didn’t: 🖤There were some things in this story that were either wayyyy too unrealistic to simply ignore or parts that truly didn’t make a lot of sense in the context they were used. I will save you from my listing every one of them out, but the biggest had to be the $500 CASH bail for a felony possession of drugs with intent to distribute charge. Do you know how easy this little speed bump could’ve been prevented??? Just a few minutes researching it on the ole Google machine would’ve provided all the info needed for her to realize that specific charge was FAR MORE SERIOUS than how she used it in her story. Or the fact that none of them have jobs or rich parents (well the girls have a part time bartending job they go to when it suits the storyline) and yet the live lifestyles like money isn’t an option. Or as a perfect example of the dialogue/plot pieces that didn’t make sense at all please see the following.... “Are these windows tinted?” she questions. I nod. “Why?” A smile forms on her face and she acts completely innocent. “Oh, no reason.” .....how would anyone ride in their long term boyfriends car religiously yet have to ask if their windows were tinted? Is this some kind of magical tint that is invisible to the naked eye? I’ve never been in a car and not been able to see the tint....I get why it was included, to hint to them getting it on BUT it wasn’t necessary.
🖤They were both a little childish. I mean I thought she was more so than him but they both made some choices and had actions that were utterly ridiculous coming from two college-aged adults.
🖤I really did like Zayn for the most part BUT what prevented it from going any further was how pathetically EMO he was. I am a sucker for the tortured misunderstood bad boy in romance, but he went way outside of what is acceptable for me. It was constantly things like this..... I may be in love with her, but I'm nothing but her brother's scumbag friend. No matter how hard I try to rewrite our fate, the truth is that's all I was ever meant to be. ....he didn’t deserve her, he’s a scumbag, he’s no good for her, she’s perfect, their love story is a Greek tragedy that was never meant to be, happiness will never come for him..... .....it got to a point I wanted to reach inside the book and make this dude go to some kind of therapy to snap out of it.
🖤The entire drama element (both romantically and not) is so easily solvable and isn’t enough on its own to justify everything that follows and makes this storyline go the ways it does. I won’t get into detail as I don’t want to ruin the story, however I felt like the author kinda solved the big main “romantic” obstacle very quickly yet allowed that to go untouched until way later.....the same with the other “big” drama, there were so many realistic and logical options to put a stop to all that from the start yet no one thought about any of that until right when it was needed to wrap the story up. I didn’t feel the angst I should’ve because I never had to worry how they were going to fix everything.....
The Verdict: All in all it was a fun little read that opened up a world of stories and characters I have every intention on exploring through their own installments/series. However, this will never be a book that I will revisit or one that will land on my top reads list. It was a good little time taker, but it just needed a little more to turn it into something 4-5 star worthy.
“You are the best thing that ever happened to me. You were the last thing I expected, but there was nothing I could do to keep myself from you. You're so perfect, and you don't even realize it. I had no choice but to fall in love with you.”
Corrupt My Mind by Kelsey Clayton is Book One in the North Haven University.
I cannot believe we are are at the spin off books already, this book, more importantly this author. She’s one of my favourite authors, she’s one of those authors where simply when you’ve been in a book funk her books sink you right right back into the book world. For me she did just that. Her books are unlike no other and I just love them.
This Book on the other hand, I loved hard. Ever since we met Zayn in the previous books, I knew he needed his own book and here we have it guys, his finally here to tell us his story and what a story it is.
Going into this book, I had no clue what to expect, but you know what they say about the unexpected things. They turn out to be greatness.
This book was EPIC! It was so good. It was an perfect blend of everything that you come to learn in your books and more, it had your taboo/forbidden aspects with it being your best friends sister. Like come on, I am sure one of us have had a crush on our best friends brothers before. I know I have for one and I am smiling just thinking about it.
The twist and turns were what this book was all about, and what I was living for. These plot holes had to happen to get these characters to where they are. They definitely kept me on the edge of my seat wondering how things are going to go down. As you’re reading, your mind and heart are going through so many different emotions, from happiness, to anger, to sadness, to even joy of watching this relationship grow from behind closed doors and their stolen moments. I swooned hard and I loved hard.
There is so much to be said about Zayn and Amelia. These two have known each other for years and when they come face to face to one another, that was it. You knew that these two were end game.
You could feel this connection, this chemistry that they had. It was contagious, it was spread onto me like a disease. Amelia reminds me a bit like Delaney, but more rebellious. She’s shy but can hold her own like no other, she’s sassy, fiery, witty, and such a head strong person. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to go for it, no matter how many times she is rejected.
Zaynie, Zayn, Zayn. He is everything. Zayn comes across as being a bad boy, but he is as loyal as a fault. His protective, smart, and drop dead gorgeous. I am seriously at a loss of words of what to say about it. His one of a kind and I just want him as my own.
Together they brought out the best in each other, he wasn’t the villan in this story, he was the HERO. Everything Zayn did was to protect those he loved. He is downright goals, how could you not love a man who would put himself in harms way to protect you. These two together are fire, they are like a chemical reaction, a reaction that has worked. Individually and together they have to face obstacles and hurdles but together they can conquer anything. These two are endgame.
Are you ready to be Corrupted?
You do not want to miss out on this epic ness! You are all going to love it.
*Read more of my reviews at Whoo Gives A Hoot* Even though I was late to the game when it came to Kelsey Clayton's Haven Grace Prep series, I didn't miss a beat when she announced her spin-off series, North Haven University. I absolutely fell in LOVE with her writing and storytelling ability from the first moment I discovered her words and I have been absolutely obsessed ever since. She manages to make it impossible not to fall in love with her characters, especially when it comes to her leading men AND that sexy Zayn Bronsyn is no exception. Oooh that boy...no that MAN ignited every part of me and I was addicted to that bittersweet ache that overtook my body.
Zayn Bronsyn intrigued me from his first appearance (even though we only saw little glimpses of him) in this awesome book world that Kelsey Clayton has so beautifully crafted for her readers. I knew that his story was going to be epic and I am so freaking glad that she decided to give him one. Not only that, but I feel that the author picked the perfect leading lady for him, even if she was the last person he should have ever went after, I mean BRO CODE is sacred...and falling for your best friends little sister is a BIG no no!
Amelia Donovan is Easton's little sister, but she's not so little anymore and she has her sights and heart set on her big brother's best friend, Zayn Bronsyn. She was a sassy and sweet girl who went after what she wanted and in the end she fought for him. I loved her and knew that she was the right match for Zayn and I am so glad that he pulled his head out of his A** in time not to lose her.
Corrupt My Mind was an intense and angsty romance that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was inhaling the words of Zayn and Amelia's journey. Kelsey Clayton started this new series off with a bang and now I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book...hell on the rest of this series!
If you love brothers best friends romances then Corrupt My Mind is the book for you!
I read this is one sitting because Zayn stole my heart which I knew he would when we met him previously! He’s was broody, swoony and everything I love in an alpha.
Zayn and Amelia were perfect for each other but like any other Kelsey Clayton romance they have to fight and fight hard for what they want. I was turning the pages so fast because I needed to find out what happened. At certain points I was so mad and screaming because I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach knowing something big was coming and boy I was not wrong.
Lots of sizzling sexual chemistry, drama and a touch forbidden, Kelsey brings you an all new must read with Corrupt My Mind.
“Can I ask you one thing?” she questions, and I nod. “Why are you being so nice to me?” Because you're everything. Because you're my weakness. Because you're my Amelia.”
well, it’s safe to say this is probably the most sane and softest book i’ve read so far in 2023. it’s been a long time since i’ve read something as normal as a friends-to-lovers and brothers best friend college romance which wasn’t a bad change.
i think the only reason i didn’t rate this story that high is because since it’s such a big change from my usual dark, forbidden and taboo reads, i have forgotten what it’s like to read normal romances 😭 oh well.
the story was entertaining, barely any smut really, and loads of angst and suspense with a sprinkle of soft moments.
Zayn is enrolled in North Haven University with his best friend Easton. One night at one of their parties he is totally surprised to find out that Easton little sister Amelia will also be attending their University when she shows up at the party. Zayn knows that she is off limits, I mean best friends sister but also because Easton a bit fragile at the moment since his going through his own issues.
Amelia has had a crush on Zayn since she was a teenager and now being at the same university and joining their frienda circle its going to be a bit much to stay away from him. But it might be easier than she thought getting her teenage crush to notice her. But getting close to him might be a bit more difficult as Zayn has his own dark secrets and his own demons to get rid of
I enjoyed this story. Enjoyed Amelia. One the one side she is a bit naive but on the other side she is confident and sassy. Definitely a bad boy with a heart of gold that is Zayn. Definitely romantic angst and some suspense thrown in there too. A good start to a new series that I am so looking forward to reading more of😊💖
Amelia is back from boarding school about to start college and she’s ready to act on her crush, Zayn, who’s also her brothers best friend and even though she certainly has his attention now Zayn has basically made a deal to keep her brother safe and he doesn’t need more collateral damage and he’s worried for Amelia for several reasons. I loved Zayn and he was not the bad guy he thought he was, he deserved so much more then what he got
Kelsey did it again with this amazing start of the series! This story is angsty and dramatic, but also intriguing.
Zayn and Amelia's story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved both Zayn and Amelia's complex characters, Kelsey did amazing on writing them. Their story makes you feel all kinds of emotions. Talk about an emotional roller coaster ride
This is the 1st book in a new series and what an awesome beginning this story is. Amelia has had a crush on tattooed bad boy Zayn for years, but he is her overprotective brothers’ best friend therefore off limits. Now Amelia is back from her private school and is starting college at the university, Zayn sees her differently from when they were growing up, and Amelia sees through the persona Zayn like to portray to the sweet and vulnerable man he is underneath, This is a beautifully written tale which this author has done an outstanding job in penning, and in my opinion, this is her best work to date! This story has complex characters and a riveting and intricate plot, which had me totally enthralled throughout. I cannot wait to read the next story in this amazing series, and I highly recommend for all.
I'm a devout lover of all things brothers best friend, and when that cover came out?! I DIED. Not only is this incredibly well written, the angst perfect, the banter on point, and the emotional connection thoroughly developed, but this is by far my favorite book Kelsey has written. And did I mention that cover? Cause my ovaries just exploded in thay corner. --------------------->>>>>>>>>>>>>
Amelia has always loved Zayn from afar, but due to the slight age gap, he never looked twice at her. But now that she's finally back home and at college, and now all grown up and beautiful as hell, she finally catches the eye of the only man who's ever made her heart flutter. Zayn however is determined to make sure his brand of filth never touched her beauty, and with all the baggage he's hiding, he's convinced that he's no good for her. But when she unknowingly gets tangled in the dangerous web he's involved in, will he be able to save her and himself? And will their hearts be able to survive the aftermath?
This was just PERFECT! Everything about this book was just so well done! Plus I even started to love Easton, which is something I thought would never happen. I'm definitely going to need his book soon. (I'm looking at you, Kelsey! Lol) I was glued to my kindle from the very first page, and I just know this is going to be a fantastic series!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**
"You deserve your very own Prince Charming, and I'm nothing but a villain."
What an entertaining start to a new series from Kelsey Clayton! Zayn and Amelia are such a sweet core couple and I really enjoyed their story. This book starts off as a brother's best friend love story (which is one of my fave tropes). I love the elements of forbidden and Zayn definitely tries to resist his attraction to Amelia. The story then ends up evolving into overcoming some external obstacles as there are some roadblocks from Zayn's past that end up impacting this couple. Zayn was such a loyal hero and even though he didn't think he was good enough for Amelia- he would have done anything to protect her. I originally thought he was going to be a bad boy but he ended up having such a big heart! And Amelia was a great balance for him with her combination of sweetness and sass. She definitely knew that she wanted Zayn from Day 1. One of my fave parts of this book were all of the smaller interactions- the bromance between Zayn and Easton, the banter between Easton and Amelia and the connectivity into the Haven Prep books. Can't wait for the next chapter in this series!
SUPER angsty brothers best friend romance. I literally lived for them sneaking around-because let’s face it Zayn was hotter than hot. I loved how the two hadn’t seen each other but were forced back into each other’s lives because of school. The heroine in this story hadn’t seen Zayn since she was full of braces and pre-puberty, so when he saw her all grown up the chemistry just zoomed right off the charts. This was definitely hot-because it was so forbidden. If you’re searching for something within the brothers best friend trope, this is a must read!
