That is all the summons says, but widow Lady Ada Hawthorne knows exactly who “he” is. He is the scoundrel all of London is talking about—the man who inherited a book that holds most of the ton’s secrets and IOUs. Yet, to Ada, he is the boy she grew up with and loved. Well, until he pushed her away as if she meant nothing. Regardless, Ada knows why she must see him. She needs to convince Eric, the new Duke of Warrick, to destroy the book.
Eric is shocked to see Ada in the foyer of the rundown manor house where they both grew up—she was the housekeeper’s daughter, and he was the son of the power-hungry lord. He sent her away for her own good and is shocked to see her reappear after so many years. She insists he must fulfill the promise they once made to each other to destroy the book, but he has no plans to do so. The man he’s become is vastly different than the one who made that pledge.
Eric wants her to go. Ada wants to stay. Fate steps in with a storm that keeps them stuck together. The days unearth secrets, and the nights reveal desires demanding to be fulfilled. As their time drags on, their hearts remember what they once meant to each other. Can they start anew, or will the need for power destroy their chance of a happily ever after?
