I know it’s wrong. But the second I read her message—sharp, curious, impossible to ignore — I can’t stop. Not even when it spirals into midnight confessions and breathless secrets. She thinks I’m him. The golden boy. The suit with the smile.
But I’m the one she tells her truth to. I’m the one who knows what it feels like to be overlooked. And I’m the one who makes her come undone.
She calls me a liar. She’s right.
But when she tries to cut me off, I show her what devotion looks I bring her dinner at 2AM. I stand in the back of the room when her world’s on fire. And when she finally breaks? I don’t walk away. I kneel.
I built a life pretending I was the placeholder. Turns out — I was the plot twist.
Read on for mistaken identity, broken trust, second chances, and an ultra-rugged MMC who finally steps out of the shadows to earn the woman who was never his to begin with. HEA Guaranteed!
1.5 stars. I don't dislike the story but it never worked for me. I didn't feel the connection between them. I'm not sure if it's because he cat fished her or I just didn't vibe with their brand of conversations/flirting. The cat fishing definitely didn't help. Their first night together was just gross to witness, you know, with her calling out the Ethan's name, her not knowing the truth about Liam. It wasn't until after she found out that any connection they had started to resonate for me but by that point it was too late.
Just how similar to Ethan does Liam look for her to think that Liam just looked different from the profile picture and not that Liam looked like an entirely different person? She spends too much time looking at code because her eyesight and facial recognition is terrible.
They meet over a text meant for someone else, but it starts a communication flow neither saw coming. When Liam takes the place of his best friend in a communication chat line on an app it starts their journey and the more vested, he becomes in their conversations the harder he falls. When Lexie learns the truth behind it all will she be able to forgive Liam of his transgressions and will it lead them along the path to happiness. This intriguing story kept me glued to the pages.
