A steamy, suspenseful romance from NY Times bestselling author Jessie Evans.

How far will they go for a second chance...

Years ago, Layla Parker’s romantic dreams came true. She married her high school sweetheart and settled into a house on his family’s ranch to live happily ever after. But sometimes dreams turn into nightmares and when Layla’s husband became abusive, she felt there was no way out. Her big brother was serving overseas, her friends were away at college, and her single father insisted she’d made her bed and now she had to lie in it. It isn’t until her father’s death over a decade later that Layla gains the courage to leave her marriage. She hopes to find peace living alone, but her dreams of happily ever after died a long time ago.

Cole Lawson has spent years secretly pining for his former best friend. Layla Parker captured his heart sophomore year of high school, but she was already taken. When she married her boyfriend two years later, she and Cole grew apart and have rarely seen each other since. Cole’s been a lady killer since the day he realized that his dimpled smile made all the cowgirls swoon, but when he discovers Layla is newly single he’s ready to put an end to his womanizing ways and make a serious play for the one who got away.

When tragedy strikes the Lawson family, Cole and Layla’s rekindled friendship grows into something more, but soon a dark secret from Layla’s past threatens to destroy their shot at forever. Now Cole will have to decide—listen to his heart or to the people warning him that Layla might not be as innocent as she seems.

I have read the whole Lonesome Point TX Series and love each one! They all have a unique love story and the characters are not perfect...

Cole never forgot the girl he grew up with and then fell for as a teenager. He missed his chance to ask her out back then and he was not about to miss it again...Layla was back in town and now that she was not taken, he wanted her to give him a chance. He never forgot her after all the years apart, he might of had a girlfriend or two but nothing came close to what he felt when he was 16 with the girl that got away...

Layla was back in her hometown after being in years of a horrible and abusive marriage to a boy she fell in love with as a teen and now that boy was a monster. She got away but she knew he would be coming for her at some point. He would not give up. When Cole approached her at the bar, she felt like she did when she was a kid and wondered about the "what ifs." It was too late to go back but could she go forward? She didn't want her past mistakes to come between them and one huge mistake could harm him. Fucking Wayne. Her soon-to-be ex husband could be a danger to both of them and everyone around her. She could not let that happen.

Cole didn't know the whole story but it was crystal clear after one night and he was going to protect Layla. He would not let her be afraid and she would not let him be in danger. She wanted to deal with this on her own. She was smart and now with people on her side, can she finally get Wayne out of her life?

I loved Cole and Layla's story. Second chances, suspense, and love. Cole is sexy, hilarious, protective and loves to cook and read!! Layla is stronger than she thinks, smart and all around kick-ass. She also has a funny attitude. Together, they can be goofy, emotional and bad ass.

The Lawson's are one amazing family and I can't wait to read Ropes and Revenge. I have a feeling it is going to be darker and a great end to this series.

P.S Rainbow Sprinkles!!!

Quotes:

“I don’t need you to keep me safe,” Layla snapped as she scrambled off the end of the bed. “And I sure as hell don’t need another controlling man in my life.”

“Not cocky, just confident.” He braced one hand on the truck as he leaned in to add in a dramatic whisper, “My spare ribs are so good your taste buds are going to come screaming my name.”

And when that happened, he was going to teach her that there were some men she could trust with every part of her—body and soul.

Chaps and Chance is another amazing addition to Jessie Evans’ Lonesome Point Texas series. With each new novel, Ms. Evans surpasses the last this time packing the story with romance, suspense and even some sad and sorrowful moments that left my heart saddened and tears in my eyes.

Layla and Cole have been friends for years both secretly attracted to one another but never confessing their feelings to the other. When Layla ends up married and leaving town, Cole is left playing the field though never finding the connection with another soul that he had with Layla. Now years later, Layla returns home to Lonesome Point on the run from her abusive and psychotic husband. When he follows her attempting to bring Layla back home, Cole comes to her rescue and takes on the responsibility of keeping his friend safe. Although they can both feel the deep connection still exists between them, they agree to remain just friends. But being in close proximity to one another with Cole watching over Layla, their relationship quickly heats up reigniting the feelings they have always had for one another. But as strategy strikes the Lawson family leaving Layla with feelings of guilt, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Can Cole save her this time before it's too late and before he loses her again, forever?

Chaps and Chance is an excellent combination of passion and biting your nails suspense. Ms. Evans has once again given us a wonderful romance taking us a little farther than she ever has before. Chaps and Chance gives us so many oh-so-sexy and hot encounters you may find you need to fan yourself to cool off. The passion which reignites between Cole and Layla will leave you breathless and wondering how Ms. Evans will ever be able to top it, but she always seems to accomplish just that.

Each of the Lonesome Point novels can be read as a standalone but I would definitely recommend starting at the beginning to enjoy the experiences of all of these wonderful characters and revisit them all as each new story is unveiled.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

OMG. I seriously can't get enough of this series, and it seems to go from strength to strength. Each character takes a piece of your heart, making you care about them, laugh with them and share in their pain.

Cole is Bubba's brother and you honestly cannot help but fall in love with the man. When he see's that the girl he has always loved is now available, he takes his chance, but also shows her how a real man acts towards a woman that he loves. Cole shows patience, love and care towards Layla when she needs it most, bringing out the best in her again.

Layla is an almost broken woman after leaving her abusive husband after ten years, however, her husband is not right in the head and refuses to let her go, and plainly shows us he is on the wring side of crazy.

The story brings you in and makes you laugh, cry and smile as you are compelled to read how Cole and Layla get their HEA. Its another instant hit that I just could not put down until the book was finished, then of course I wanted to cry just because it had.

Jessie Evans has this way of making words flow from the page and into your heart. They just taste good. Delicious and heartwarming. Chaps and Chance is the newest addition to the Lonesome Point, TX series and hot damn is it great! Cole is Bubba's brother and Layla is the girl he always has a crush on. We've met them before and I'm so happy that they got their story. There was always something about Cole that was intriguing. Now I know what it was. He's hot, sexy, silly, dirty and did I say hot? He still has feelings for Layla and he's not going to miss out on another opportunity to let her know. Layla is trying to recover from leaving her abusive husband, but she can't seem to stay away from Cole. Something about his body and soul call out to her. She's done being afraid and she wants Cole, so she's going to have him. Cole is more than willing, but when tragedy hits too close to home, Cole is torn between going after what he wants or possibly losing Layla forever. This book has everything: love, heat, angst, sadness, humor, grief, and suspense. Let's not forget the hot sex and the shocker moment! I'm already impatient for John story! I’ll take a double scoop of rainbow sprinkles now.

The way he filled out a tee shirt and jeans was borderline obscene, showcasing more muscles than one make body should be allowed to possess.

"And if you stay with me, I can show you all the fun things I've learned since we were kids."
"I think I already know a little about that." Heat crept into her cool blue gaze, making his pulse leap.
"I was talking about my culinary skills," Cole said, his voice husky. "But I'd love to show you more of the other, too."

"Rainbow sprinkles," she sighed, catching her breath as she floated back to earth.
"Curse word I haven't head of?" Cole asked, "or my new nickname?"
"Both."

This kiss was a drink of water in the desert, a hand up out of the quicksand. This kiss was a promise that, even though the world was full of darkness, he would always find light in this woman's arms.

We met Layla in Reece and Grayson's book. She is a woman that is trying to get away from a very abusive husband. Layla no longer has dreams of peace or happiness, alone or with someone else. She has basically given up and is a shell of the person everyone knew her to be ten years ago.

We learn more about what happened in her marriage and the things that she had to do to finally get away from Wayne. He has been laying low for the last couple of months and she has gotten complacent about her safety, but she will soon find out that Wayne has no intention of letting her go.

Cole grew up with Layla and attended school with her and Wayne. He has been pining for her since they were sophmores at school and he let his chance slip away. If he had just asked her out before Wayne did, who knows how differently things would have turned out for all of them.

Cole and Layla find an instant connection that cannot be denied, even though she is still legally married. But, when secrets from the past pop up and a tragedy happens, will they be able to get past all of that or will things end in a much more permanant way? Make sure you have tissues close by when you read this one. There are some really sad, tearjerker parts, but you really DON'T want to miss this story. I am soooo looking forward to the next book Jessie comes out with. She is just an AMAZING author and has a way with words that draw you in and make you feel like you are right there with the characters.

I just LOVE Jessie Evans' books. They come out and I just have to read them. They always seem to have the perfect combination of sweet and sassy, sexy and fun and Chaps and Chance had those as well as some suspense. I have to say, I loved Cole Lawson, he is a great character. We have had bits and pieces of Cole prior to this book, but in getting the full Cole experience I can only say I love him. He is sweet and ridiculously sexy, he is an awesome uncle and brother, he stands up for what he believes in, does what makes him happy and after a brush with death (check out Glitter and Grit for details) he lives each day to the fullest. When he figures out what Layla went through in her marriage, he instantly stands up for her and tells her if she needs anything at all, he is there for her. He is just an all around great guy.

Layla was a great character as well. Seeing her go from the battered wife that she was to someone willing to fight for her life, to stand up for herself and take a chance on love again, was a great progression. Layla and Cole together was even better. They seemed to complement each other in the best ways and really bring out the best in each other. This book was fun, sexy, suspenseful, heartbreaking and sweet all together and I just can't wait for the conclusion of the series.

Only Jessie can do this to me and keep me coming back for more! I laughed, I ugly cried, and I was literally yelling at my Kindle, nearly threw it too before I remembered that I wasn't reading a paperback LOL...this book is a must read.

I do have to admit that Layla was NOT my favorite character when she was introduced in Glitter and Grit. In fact I down right didn't like her. But as her character is fleshed out in Chaps and Chance I found myself cheering for her and the woman that she had become.

And Cole, WOW! That sweetheart with just that little bit of a dirty edge...definitely my type of hero, but honestly Layla totally stole the story for me in a VERY good way.

The story's beginning, middle, and end will have you on the edge of your seat.

Jessie Evans has an amazing ability to pack a wide variety of emotion in a very well written book. Each new book of hers I read is better than the last. Cole and Layla's story is packed with serious, funny, ugly tears, fear and love. This one you will not be able to put down.
Lonesome Point, Texas sounds like an amazing place to be. Looking forward to the next book in the series and my happy reader self can name several more characters I'd like to see get a happily ever after.

Love Layla and Cole! Layla was physically abused by her husband and fled back home to Lonesome Point. Cole was one of her best friend’s before she started dating and then married Wayne. This book has so much, love, abuse, deception and so much more… it was a very emotional read but so worth every tear! Loved Chaps & Chance.

I adore this series and this is one of the best so far. This story will have you turning page after page, never able to put it down. The emotions that jump from the pages are a real roller coaster and will leaving you gasping, laughing, and crying at times. It's a great story of a woman finding her inner strength and trying to live life on her terms. Reconnecting with a lost love is the one thing that really shows her how life should be lived.

I highly recommend this one!

I'm not sure how Jessie manages to make these Lonesome Point TX books better and better, but I'm sure glad she does!! Chaps and Chance sure didn't disappoint in any respect and matter of fact it exceeded my expectations on many levels! Cole and Layla were so good together and I love a second chance romance, so I was hoping that they were gonna be as good as they were!

Cole Lawson was a surprise because when we met him first in Saddles and Sin, well if you've read it you remember that he wasn't overly nice and was a bit of an a%% and a total playboy. He's changed a bit in the aftermath of his ordeal with Layla's dad in Glitter and Grit. He's trying hard to be nicer and just enjoy his life and family. Knowing that Layla Parker is once again available gives Cole a new purpose; he wants the girl he's wanted since he was 16yo and he's determined to have a shot with her. Layla however is still reeling from finally fleeing her marriage after 10yrs of misery. She feels the pull toward Cole but she's still afraid to let anyone in because her ex is still an issue and she fears the secret she hides will hurt those around her.

I loved the easy way that Cole and Layla were with each other. That they both enjoyed quiet nights, reading books (even Cole's secret romance stash) or watching movies. But they were also steaming up the sheets together between the dirty talk, the morning breath and the rainbow sprinkles I found myself alternately fanning myself and laughing! But I also loved how they were there for each other in so many ways. Cole was supportive of Layla's fears and need for independence and Layla was there for Cole and his family as they confront a tragedy and the continued threat of her ex. The way that Jessie combines romance and intrigue in this series is always so well done and keeps the pages turning to see how it will all play out. Chaps and Chance kept the suspense going and while there isn't a cliffhanger I can't wait to see what happens next in Ropes and Revenge!!

Wow, Jessie Evans just Wow! I loved Cole from the minute I was introduced to him in Glitter and Grit and was so excited to read more about him in Chaps and Chance. Cole is one of the lovely Lawson men, brothers with Bubba from Saddles and Sin. Cole is the man you want on your side. Not only is he HOT, SEXY, SWEET and LOYAL, but also a man to not mess with. He protects his family and friends, especially the woman that he LOVES. Layla Parker is the woman that Cole just couldn't forget. Yea, he may have the player reputation, but no one comes close to his Layla. Layla was always fond of Cole and had deep feelings for him, but chose her high sweetheart to marry. What started as a beautiful courtship quickly changed into a horror. Layla, running away from her abusive husband, brings her back to Lonesome Point and into the arms of Cole. Their chemistry cannot be denied, and although Layla wants to only be friends soon she cannot deny her lust for Cole. She is done being afraid of loving again and Cole is more than ready for his second chance. Twist and tragedy soon effect their blossoming relationship, and both Layla and Cole are left in limbo. Can Layla and Cole overcome all the obstacles standing in their way and finally have their second chance in love?
I love this book! There were so many moments that I was laughing and crying. It was filled with sadness, humor, grief, suspense and second chances in love. Thank you Jessie for once again hitting it out of the ball park!

Another great addition to the Lonesome Point series. And OMG - this one was by far the most suspenseful with lots of heat!! Cole is one sexy cowboy who we've already met before, but we get to see all the sexy sides to him this time around. Layla is trying to recover from an abusive marriage and has known Cole since they were kids. It's great that they find their way back to each other. This one had suspense, heartbreak, steam and sizzle. Can't wait for the continuation of this series.
Each book can be read as a standalone, but you gain a lot more by reading from book 1.
Love the quotes in this book - Jessie Evans is such a talented writer. Her books are always a treat to read and I will never look at 'Rainbow Sprinkles' the same way again!

I don't know where to start there is so much that I loved about this book. I'll start with Cole, where can myself one of those? The man can cook and he has a great sense of humor then throw in how fiercely he loves, man oh man. The chemistry between him and Kayla whew hot!! Layla, what she has endured and still is makes you feel for her and you want her to get that HEA.This book pulls everything out of you, laughs, tears, and sighs. The build up at the climax of the book holy cow keeps you on the edge of you seat. Plus there was a twist that I didn't see coming that makes me anticipate the next book. I can't say how much I recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.

This one pulls no punches. It is a lot. Very important to check the content warnings, I assume usual formats would contain. I probably should have had more faith considering I’d already read 4 books and a novella in the series but this skirts really close to uncomfortable places that make you doubt if it can be saved. I am well aware of my hypocrisy, I like to read the troubled MC who needs to recognise that they still deserve love but reading through the event in real time is much harder to deal with no matter the justifications, I was already trying to work out how to be ok with it, knowing I wasn’t and I couldn’t even wanting to. Layla and Cole are a wonderful pair and I did truly want their HEA but I’ll say it again, their kind of second chance is a lot. The best I can understand it, it’s not that it’s the most suspenseful or tragic or angsty but it does have a big helping of each and together that’s a lot
Apologies I’m sure I’ve made it as clear as mud

This book, just like all the other Lonesome Point books, keep you on your toes from beginning to end. You can't help but love Cole and root for Layla. It's clear that they are both pushing against their feelings for one another and you find yourself wishing they could start from scratch, or jump in a time machine and zoom back to the day Cole comforted Layla. You'll be depressed just thinking about all the hurt and destruction Layla could have saved herself if she would have looked up into Cole's dreamy eyes and just KISSED THE MAN! But no... that would have been too easy, too perfect. And love isn't perfect, at least, not at first. In Layla's case, she's found love to be messy and brutal. She's learned her lesson, time after time, fist after fist, scar after scar from the hands of her soon to be ex-husband, Wayne. He is the only thing standing between Layla and her happily ever after.
My adrenaline was pumping just waiting for Wayne to pop up (which he did, frequently) and I empathized with Layla on a deep, primal level. I know first hand that getting out of an emotionally or physically abusive relationship is HARD, especially when the other person simply Wont. Let. Go. The fear is real. It grabs you by the throat and threatens to suck the life out of you, and when you're faced with a decision of 'him or me', the choice is easy. At lease, for some. But not for Layla. Even standing toe-to-toe with the man who made her life a living hell, even when the easiest solution is staring her in the face, pleading with her to take that one last step... she finds it hard to follow through.
But Layla is a fighter. She wasn't always that way, but she knew she'd have to change in order to reclaim everything she wanted and was refused in the life she led with Wayne. (Well, she didn't so much 'lead her life' so much as she was 'dragged through hell day after day.)
As with all of Jesse's books, I knew there was going to be a twist. A few chapters in, I was CERTAIN I knew what it was. Well... I was wrong. What Layla does will shock you, and it will take a few chapters for you to come to grips with the decision she made. But in the end you'll catch yourself saying, "You clever, clever girl. Kudos! Fist bumps all around!"

Now, in addition to the suspense element of this book, there was a great second-chance love story that I expected to simmer and build slowly through the pages. Luckily, that wasn't the case. It was a raw, in your face, throw-you-over-a-cliff kind of love that has you hanging on for dear life. Cole and Layla's love is real and sacred and all-consuming. Cole will do whatever it takes to protect Layla from the one man who is insistent on getting her back. And Layla will do everything in her power to keep Cole out of the line of fire and safe back in Lonesome Point where he and his family are already dealing with a horrible tragedy.
BUT! It's not all fear and passion and angst. As per usual in Lonesome Point romances, there is loads of fun to be had. The bro-love between Cole and his friends and brother will make you smile. The over-the-top ribbing from Layla's gal pals will have you thinking about your own girlfriends and laughing along as they find clever ways to joke about her new-found relationship with Mr. Wonderful. The sisterly love Cole has for Lily, his sister-in-law, will make you want to bear hug him around his wide shoulders. And the witty banter volleyed back and forth between Cole and Layla will have you swooning and fighting to contain your schoolgirl giggles.

This book is one terror-driven panic attack after another. One steamy, passionate embrace after another. One snort-giggle after another. And it all ends on a note of happiness, wrapped up perfectly in a shiny red bow, topped with rainbow sprinkles...

(Please note: This story deals with domestic abuse, and is addressed (somewhat) in this review. Please take this into consideration before reading further and/or purchasing this book.)

This story opens up to heartache, tragedy and sadness. I was blindsided by the depth of emotion in it and the power it had over me. I cried and I couldn't stop. It might've been minutes, maybe an hour. I don't know. But the pull was so strong and left me drained.

There is, I think, nothing worse than feeling helpless and hopeless in a place where neither of those should exist. Yes, marriage is work. Yes, couples encounter problems. You'll go through periods of liking and not liking each other, yet the love you have should always be there. It should be what pulls you through those tough moments. It should be a reminder of what you have now and what you want later together. It should not be part of an apology meant to cover the damage done by words or fists. Never. When love is spoken after an argument, it's a spoken reminder of that feeling you both share. It's a reinforcement of why you agreed to disagree, why you compromised. It's not meant to cover your ass when you lose your temper.

Like other women of abuse that I've come to know in books, Layla found the strength to leave it behind. The damage was done though. She wasn't the Layla of ten years ago. Smiles were hard to come by, laughter even more so. Rebuilding her self-esteem was essential and she did it slowly, carefully. She learned to be strong for herself, to see her self-worth. She also learned to open her heart again to the one man she maybe should have taken a chance on years ago.

Cole was a man worth taking a chance on. With him, she found a reason to really smile and laugh and love. And Cole... I wouldn't call him disillusioned. He knew she was different than before, could see it in her eyes and in her body language but he loved her anyway.

Because that is what love is. Its rock steady and unconditional. It doesn't sway because a meal is cooked wrong, something wasn't put where it was supposed to be, or a too-short dress was worn in public. It forgives. It forgets. It heals. It helps you move forward. Despite what comes, despite what others say, that kind of love is unwavering and true. I wouldn't have believed that any of these would be possible to see in this story if I hadn't seen how Layla grew from fearful of a man's touch to anticipating her man's touch.

In one way or another, they were always making love. When two people were as close as they were, lovemaking didn't stop when you left the bedroom. It was there in every touch, every conversation, every moment of shared happiness that made a relationship into a union that nothing could break. (Kindle, ARC, Loc 2734)

Ms. Evans, I swear you'll have me in tears with every book you write but I don't mind at all. Thank you for creating a world where I feel so much and come away with my heart full and content with the outcome you write for your characters. You make them real, make me want to like them, hate them, love them, sympathize with them, want better for them (or not, lol). So despite the emotional upheaval I experience reading your books, thank you. I wouldn't trade that kind of upheaval for anything.

I swear, every time I revisit Lonesome Point, Texas, I fall irrevocably in love with Jessie Evans' latest cowboy. Case and point, my new book boyfriend, and current favorite Texas cowboy, Cole Lawson.

For years, Cole's been wishing for the one that got away, Layla Parker...now Layla Wheeler. Seeing her again for the first time since her return to Lonesome Point, and her separation from her abusive husband, just confirms what he's suspected all this time. There's no getting over her.

But when her past comes around again looking to drag Layla back into the darkness, Cole must risk everything to save the girl he's always loved...and will love forever, given the chance.

Suspenseful, sexy and sweet. Three 'S' words that means that Chaps and Chance is another stellar installment in this seriously swoony cowboy series.

I loved Cole, as previously mentioned, because how could I not? He's strong, protective, well-read and an excellent cook. He's also a family man, and when tragedy struck, his grief became my own. Ms. Evans handled the devastation well, leaving my heart hurting and my eyes welling.

While I found the ending of this romantic suspense a little quick, and glossed over, the important thing is the big, happy I felt when I closed the book...and the ache I felt knowing that the next Lonesome Point, Texas cowboy I'm going to fall in love with (because, yeah, I'm that sure) is broken and bruised. ~ Beth, 4 stars

I don't think there us anything sexier than a man, let alone cowboy, defending his love from a bully. Well, maybe if said cowboy was shirtless. Cole..."the way he filled his tee shirt and jeans was borderline obscene", made me smile when he was being silly, and swoon when he wasn't. His heart has been empty for many years without Layla, his childhood crush.

"Cole had gone on to date half the female population of Lonesome Point, believing the best way to get over the one who'd gotten away was to have a damned good time with the ones who let themselves be caught."

Layla is just getting out of a deadly marriage and runs into rugged Cole and it feels like old times again.

"You cant undo the past, but you can make up for your mistakes. If you really want to."

Chaps and Chance was sweet, steamy and suspenseful. I was expecting a typical cowboy story, but this had much more to it. ~ Krissy, 3.5 stars

Chaps and Chance (Lonesome Point Texas #5)
By: Jessie Evans
4/5 stars

After Cole Lawson was held captive by Grayson & Layla Parker’s dad, Neil, and not being sure if he would make it out alive, he decided that he needs to take the bull by the horns and live life to its fullest. He’s not willing to let any second-chance at life pass him by. So when he hears that Layla Parker is getting divorced from her husband Wayne Wheeler, he knows that he can’t let the chance go when he’s pined for her since they were in high school.

Layla Parker is beat down from the toll of her verbally & physically abusive marriage. Right after high school graduation she married the boy she loved, but through the years, he changed into a monster. Layla isn’t ready to jump into another relationship because she wants to be able to stand on her own two feet and be independent. But she’s also concerned with bringing danger with her wherever she goes since her husband told her that he’d kill her before he ever let her leave him or grant her a divorce.

Cole wants to protect Layla from Wayne, but it has to be Layla’s decision. We really see another side to Cole than we did in previous books where he was a lady charmer. He’s focused on Layla and building a relationship with her alone. Layla wants Cole, but is so worried with everything that has been going on in her life she just can’t fathom a relationship. But little by little, she gives in to Cole and they go from restarting their old friendship to being something more, to being in a relationship and to where they truly felt like they were each other’s one true love.

After a tragedy strikes the Lawson family & Layla believes that she was the underlying cause for it, forces her to make a difficult decision. But the decision is one that she feels she must make in order to protect those loved ones around her.

I really felt like there should have been a chapter between the last two chapters. I didn’t like the build-up, the climax and then boom…time-jump. That’s just me, I like explanation.

Jessie's Lonesome Point, TX, series just keeps getting better and better. I know, I say it after each book, but it is absolutely true. When each new installment in the series releases, I know that it's going to have me riveted from the first page, unwilling to do anything but read, and Chaps and Chance delivers in the most wonderful way.

Once I met Cole Lawson, there was no way that I was willing or able to do anything but fly through this book as fast as I could. All of the Lawson brothers are yummy, but Cole, mmmmm, Cole. Hot as heck, sexy as sin, and steadfast to the end, he is the stuff that book boyfriends are made of. He's loved Layla Parker since they were kids, and wants nothing more than to put the smile back on her face that years of living with her abusive husband Wayne took away. He knows that it's not often that a second chance at love comes along, and will do whatever it takes to have the happy ending that they missed out on when they were younger.

Layla is one strong woman. Having survived ten long years of hell at Wayne's hands, she's emerged smarter and tougher. Left with a heart as battered as her body had been, Layla isn't expecting to find love again, but Cole shows her that sometimes the best things are worth waiting - and fighting - for.

"They stared at each other, into each other, until the years and the awkwardness fell away, and for a moment, it was the way it used to be, back when they'd spent hours together, talking and laughing, with only comfortable silences falling between them."

Jessie Evans is one of my go-to authors. She delivers angst, passion, sadness, and joy in equal measure with every book, and I look forward to each one with anticipation. I cannot wait to read Ropes and Revenge, John Lawson's book, and to continue my love affair with Lonesome Point. 5+ 'I love a cowboy' stars for Jessie and this gem of a book.

My favorite thing about the Lonesome Point Texas series, and Jessie Evan's writing period, is that she doesn't dwell on a backstory for her characters. She's doesn't spend chapter after chapter telling how each character got to the point they are currently but somehow she still manages to keep readers up to speed. Which is probably helpful to those who might read this series out of order. She also is great at speeding up the rate at which the hero and heroine fall in love without making it seem like insta-love.

Cole and Layla have a history but were never actually a couple but I still consider this a second chance romance because the feelings were always there. As teenagers they never acted on their feelings for each other and Layla fell in love with Wayne instead. Meanwhile, Cole never stopped thinking about her and when she suddenly becomes available he won't miss out on his chance to be with her once and for all.

Cole is sexy, sweet and knows all the right things to say and do to help Layla move on from her terrible past. He'll do anything to protect her and to make her his but Layla's ex-husband has other plans. Ugh...Wayne. I hated him for everything he did to Layla and for not letting her go but I admit that when Jessie gave us his point of view, I almost felt sorry for him. I'm kind of disgusted that I felt an ounce of pity for him but I guess that's the sign of a great writer, when she can make you feel good things for someone so awful.

This book wasn't just a romance, it was full of mystery and suspense and left me with a lot of questions that will most likely be answered in the next book, which of course, I can't wait to read!!!

If you like hot, hard-working and sweet good old, country boys with dirty mouths and huge hearts then this series is a must read!!

Oh wow I have no words for Chaps and Chance (and no I don't mean that in a bad way). I mean that in the best possible way. I have to say this was the first full length book in this series I got to review. Well except for a novella. But it was nice to be able to review a full length novel in the Lonesome Point series.

Where oh where should I start? Well let's go ahead and start with Layla. Sweet, sweet Layla. I really don't even know where to start with Layla. Not because I didn't like Layla, because I did. But there's so much to her. She's trying to find herself after getting out of a bad relationship. She's strong and a fighter.

I really liked Cole also. He's sweet, caring, protective. And I have to admit I did feel bad for him after the first time he talked to Layla for the first time in a long time. You could immediately feel the attraction between him and Layla.

I will say this story does deal with a serious issue. But I think that Mrs. Evans wrote it tastefully (if there is a way to write it tastefully). I really felt every emotion that Mrs. Evans put in this book. I couldn't put this down once I started. And there was one point where I gasped and got teary-eyed. I don't want to give away any spoilers. But this book did also make me smile also.

I'm giving Chaps and Chance 5 Stars Out of 5 Stars and would recommend it.

**I received an ARC of this book from.the author for my honest review**

Another Opportunity!!!

Cole Lawson always had strong feelings for his best friend Layla Parker but never did anything about it until she came back to Lonesome Point after her dream marriage with her high school sweetheart turned into a nightmare.

Layla Parker left her abusive husband and head back to her childhood home with her brother Grayson and his wife Reece....Layla closed her heart off to happiness that is until Cole Lawson busted back into her life offering her what she had always dreamed of.....UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

This phrase by Layla, "But by some miracle, he'd arrived unmolested and, even more miraculously, was looking at her like she was the last spoonful of rainbow sprinkles at the ice cream topping bar." showed just how well she could read Cole's eyes.....and vice versa so when Cole saw the fear in Layla's eyes he knew he had to do everything in his power to protect her and to make that fear disappear.

Cole's naughty side was just a delight to read, the bantering between him and Layla was all that woman needed to make her feel alive again. Finally reconnecting as friends, Layla and Cole found themselves falling more and more in love just then they are hit with events that threatened to tear them apart.

Cole and Layla stood by each other and faced all the obstacles together.....I love how strong their bond grew, they got their second chance at HAPPINESS.

P.S It was sad to see Lily go :(
