Tangled Flames

I came to Ember Hollow to do my job—defend a client in court everyone wants to see burn. What I didn’t plan on was him .

Dr. Graham Ramsey is brilliant, calm, and infuriatingly observant. He sees too much—every lie I tell, every mask I wear to keep my past buried. I should stay away from him. I’ve spent years building walls thick enough to keep anyone out, yet somehow not him.

When someone attacks me outside the library, Graham is the one who finds me. The one who refuses to let me push him away. The one who makes me feel something I haven’t felt in years—safe.

Now, danger is closing in, and so are my feelings for him. Every touch, every look, every moment we spend together burns hotter than the last.

I know I shouldn’t let my guard down. I know trusting him could destroy everything I’ve worked for.

But some fires can’t be contained.

And Graham Ramsey might be the one person willing to burn with me.

Tangled Flames is book four in the Ember Hollow Romance series—full of slow-burn tension, healing, and two guarded hearts learning how to trust again.

This story gripped me from beginning to end - i was so enthralled i read it in one sitting - Ms Easton know how to spin an atmosphere, building on the tension in a masterful way. Her study of characters was dead on, raw truth - no detours.
I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment as we were left on a cliffhanger. This is an honest review as i received an ARC

"Tangled Flames" by Abbey Easton was phenomenal. I absolutely loved this book.

Quinn is a fiercely intelligent defense attorney with layers of armor built from her past, and watching those walls slowly crack was incredibly satisfying. She comes to Ember Hollow to do an impossible job—defend a client everyone has already condemned—but she never expects to collide with Dr. Graham Ramsey. Graham is calm, brilliant, and devastatingly perceptive, the kind of man who sees straight through every carefully crafted mask Quinn wears.

Their chemistry is undeniable from the start. The push and pull between Quinn’s need for control and Graham’s quiet persistence creates a delicious slow burn that smolders on every page. He doesn’t try to fix her or force his way in—he simply sees her, and that makes their connection feel deeply authentic.

The suspense element adds real weight to the romance. The serial killer case, combined with the terrifying attack outside the library, raises the stakes and pulls Graham and Quinn closer together in ways that feel natural and intense. The moment Graham becomes her safe place is both powerful and emotional, making every touch and shared glance hit harder.

Abbey Easton excels at blending danger, desire, and vulnerability. Quinn’s internal struggle with trust is heartfelt, and Graham’s willingness to stand beside her—no matter the cost—makes him an unforgettable hero. Their love feels earned, fierce, and consuming.

If you love smart heroines, emotionally rich slow-burn romance, and suspense that keeps you turning pages late into the night, "Tangled Flames" is a must-read. This book burns hot in all the best ways 🔥📖.

Tangled Flames is the fourth book in the Ember Hollow series. The story is a thrilling rollercoaster ride with intense suspense, emotional depth, swoon-worthy romance, complex characters, and an intricate plot. Quinn, a skilled defense attorney, arrives in Ember Hollow to defend her client. Her past experiences have created layers of armor around her. There, she meets Dr. Graham Ramsey, a calm and brilliant forensic psychologist who sees right through Quinn's defenses. Their initial meeting is marked by undeniable chemistry, with Quinn's need for control contrasting with Graham's quiet persistence. As they navigate the suspenseful case and terrifying events, their connection deepens, making every touch and glance feel intense and authentic. Quinn's struggle to trust, Graham's willingness to stand by her provide the perfect counterbalance. Quinn and Graham have complex pasts that make them wary of trusting each other. They both have secrets: Graham is on the witness stand while Quinn's law firm wants her to stay in the small town where the case will be tried – at Graham's family's B&B. They are fierce and all-consuming. Both Quinn and Graham have their own wounds, making their unlikely alliance even more compelling. Their connection and chemistry are authentic and undeniable, with a slow-burn tension that only intensifies as they are forced to work together. Tangled Flames is engaging, well-written, and character-driven.

She's part of the defense team. He's a forensic psychologist. But they don't know that they are on opposite sides when he helps her after the cat in the library causes injury and he helps bandage the wound. The next time they see each other, he's on the witness stand and she's getting him disqualified from the case.

They both have wounds. He really shouldn't have been on the case because he has relatives who suffered at the hands of the defendant. For some strange reason, her law firm wants her to stay in the small town where the case will be tried and the defendant requested it. Wouldn't you know , the only place to stay in the town is his parent's B&B. And so the story goes. Turns out not everyone in the town is friendly. Well, most of the town views her as the handmaiden of the devil on trial, but some townspeople have more motive to see her gone, one way or another

The plot is twisty and not all is solved, but the important part is that the characters are well characterized, motives become apparent in most cases, there are enough false leads and misfortunes to keep the reader busy. It's one of those that sucked me in early and just wouldn't let me go.

I think you'll enjoy it, too.

Intense yet enjoyable:
I loved this addition to what has already been an thrilling and outstanding series. I'd recommend reading the books in series as there is an overarching mystery and prior characters are featured once again. I was so glad to finally peel back the covers and find out more about the mysterious Graham. I loved how complex both Quinn and Graham were and my heart broke over everything that they had endured in their lives. They absolutely deserved the love, belonging and peace that they found!
After the suspenseful ending, I am now desperate to read the final book when it is released. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

Tangled Flames leaves you twisted in a knot of emotions and pain. Quinn had me swinging between empathy, anger, and frustration — her walls and choices had my fists clenched, yet the reasons behind them shattered my heart. Graham made me want to wrap him in a warm hug while also smacking some sense into him for carrying the weight of the world alone. Their family radiates warmth & support even as it's foundation cracks under pressure. The constant threat of danger keeps you on edge, while a fresh, sinister presence lurks far too close leaving them exposed. An exciting, emotionally charged installment that tugs hard at the heart.

Emotionally charged and full of suspense. This time around felt darker and more emotional.

Quinn is a complicated heroine. She has walls the height of skyscrapers but the reasons behind them make sense. You want to emphasize with her but also get frustrated at the same time. Graham is calm, brilliant and patient. He was the perfect man to see through Quinn's armor. I really liked these two as a couple and felt the author did a good job of building their romance. The chemistry was undeniable and their connection felt authentic.

The suspense plot was filled with danger and mystery. I was very entertained.

Would recommend!

At first I felt like Graham deserved better than the up herself rude lawyer but there’s more to Quinn, more to her story.
Their relationship is more of a slow burn, well compared to his brother’s and their insta love stories. Quinn has her history and the nightmares. A difficult case defender the man that has terrorised the town for decades and then whoever is stalking her in town to scare her off is a lot but she also has her boss (&secret lover) breathing down her neck .
Graham is a lovely guy who gives her space whilst letting her know he’s there for her, along with his whole family

She wants justice when it comes to her abuser but when it's other women that's abused and killed, she likes to defend the monsters even knowing they're guilty.

H's immediate family were some that were abused/ almost killed by the serial killer h is defending and i'm genuinely surprised at how quick he is to throw all the survivors' comfort away just to bring her around them. With no care to how it might trigger them to meet her.

It's all about her trauma, fuck everyone else's is the theme of the story.

I really enjoyed this read. It handled mature and darker topics really well. Right from the first few pages, I fell in love with the writing—simple, yet emotionally effective. This is part of a series, and I do wish I had gone back and read the other books first, because I loved the characters and wanted to know more about them. Also… that ending. I am shook. Next book, please. If you love small-town romance or even mild romantic suspense, this could be for you. Please be sure to check the content warnings.
