Vows in Vauxhall Gardens #3

A Vow from a Viscount

Rate this book
A vow made beneath the glittering lamps of Vauxhall Gardens. A chance encounter that could change everything.

Years ago, on a summer evening at Vauxhall Gardens, Laurence Walsham swore to his father that he would marry and secure the family line — anything to keep the title from falling into the wrong hands. But after years of rakish living, the new viscount finds himself unprepared to keep that promise.

Miss Anastasia Carrington believes her brother’s invitation to Vauxhall is a rare act of kindness — until he announces her engagement to the elderly Baron Brett. Furious and desperate, she flees into the shadowy corners of the gardens… straight into the arms of a stranger.

When Laurence finds her sobbing, whilst trying to avoid a past dalliance of his own, he tries to comfort her. And when the meddling Duchess of Tewkesbury comes across them and insists, they wed, is it the answer to both of their problems?

Or only the beginning?

Laurence Walsham is considered a catch of the season except that he is not at all interested in being caught. He also has the reputation of being a ‘rake’ and ‘ruinous.’ He is happy as a single man, enjoys women, has a Mistress and gets on well with his beloved father, Viscount Walsham.
Miss Anastasia Carrington is a shy, reclusive young woman at the mercy of her brother an invert gambler, a man with a vicious temper and a man determined to marry her off to the highest bidder.
When she is caught in a terrible situation in Vauxhall Gardens, having fled from her brother and Lord Brett, the man she is to be forced to marry, she discovers that she will indeed need to marry but to Viscount Walsham, Laurence as he as the man who tried to comfort her and was seen with her, flagrantly breaking all of Societies strict rule.
Two young people both struggling to accept a huge change in their lives, try to work out a way forward but even though they enjoy each other in the bed, they are both keeping secrets. One is being blackmailed the other trying to work out the best way to make a marriage work.
Book three in the Dragonblade Series, A Vow from a Viscount is a delightful, easy read for an afternoon of escapism, where the damsel in distress is rescued by the man who is to become the love of her life, which makes an entertaining afternoon in a place that sort of could very easily have been Regency England!

In Daphne Quinn’s book, “A Vow from a Viscount”, Viscount Laurence Walsham needs a wife so he can produce an heir for the family title. Anastasia Carrington needs a husband before her brother gambles away her dowry. When Annie tries to escape from a suitor that her brother has chosen for her, Baron Brett, she finds herself in a dark corner of the Vauxhall Gardens with Laurence. When they are discovered their hands are forced and they must marry. How can Annie and Laurence make their marriage work? Will the secrets they both carry cause them troubles?

This book conforms to British High Society norms. Anyone caught in a compromising position was required to marry. I have to wonder how often this really happened. Most of the young women who were being presented to society were highly chaperoned so that this type of thing would rarely happen. This is book three of at least a four book series, but one can definitely read it as a stand a lone book. Anyone who likes Regency Romance will like this book.

I wish to thank Dragonblade Publishing for the eARC of the book and for selecting me to review it on NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

A Vow from a Viscount is the third book in the Vows in Vauxhall Gardens series.

Years ago, on a summer evening at Vauxhall Gardens, Laurence Walsham swore to his father that he would marry and secure the family line. Now that he has passed, he will have to find a bride and begin getting heirs. Hardly the basis for a love match. But Laurence does just that when he inadvertently compromises Miss Anastasia Carrington in the gardens. Unfortunately, this ruins her brothers plans to force her to marry a man old enough to be her grandfather for his gambling debts. Time will tell whether they can build a marriage between them before Anastasia finds herself in danger.

This was a fast afternoon read at 192 pages. I thought this was a nice quick romance. It was a little to short for me. I would have loved for it to be twice as long. Still a good read.

I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.

We have Miss Anastasia Carrington who believes that a trip to Vauxhall gardens by her brother is his attempt to be nice to her!
It is not he informs her she is to marry a Baron old to be her father!
She runs away in horror and disbelief and encounters Laurence aka now Viscount Walsham who recently lost his father!
He was hiding to escape an ex paramour when he encounters Anastasia!
They are caught alone and Laurence has a reputation as a notorious rake! Their cry of an innocent encounter is not believed by one of the most gossipy women of the Ton!
But Anastasia once wed is not free of her brother or the notorious Baron!
A lot could be cleared up if they had talked to each other!
But once Anastasia is kidnapped all bets are off! Can Laurence rescue her and the love that has grown between them? Bravo

An amazing story in this series..

Caroline and Laurence marry for convenience and to save her reputation after being found in Vauxhall's dark gardens alone..

Caroline is shy quiet and innocent whereas Laurence is a rake and sure of himself.. despite the fact that these two are completely different, there's a spark between them.. but it seems that the only place they can both open up to each other is in the bedroom..

how can they possibly give their marriage half a chance if they can't manage a conversation during the day? Especially with blackmail in the background and a lingering mistress that refuses to go away..

Well because they eventually decide to start to communicate.. and love always conquers all bounds..

This story had laughter love and happiness.

Loved this book. Laurence a rake and a Viscount made a vow to his father he would marry and sire a child to continue their line. Whilst in Vauxhall Gardens he comes across Caroline a shy and innocent young lady in tears. When attempting to comfort her they are discovered by a well know gossip and forced to wed
Can this match survive both partners know nothing of the other. A tale of blackmail and uncertainty. Will they come to love each other. Well written, great characters. Would recommend this book

He made a vow to his father and marriage vows to her. Although their marriage came about from unintended scandal, they are well suited together, except for misguided, self absorbed sibling and lascivious antagonist that makes her life untenable. So satisfying when things come to a head and a well deserved resolution comes to fruition. Very good read!

An only child, Laurence promises he will give up his rakish ways and marry in order to have an heir. Anastasia is mortified when she realizes her gambling brother has sold her in marriage to an older man. Getting caught together and having to marry seems the answer to both their prayers. Can her desperate brother stay out of her life? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

[thank you to netgally for the ARC in exchange for an honest review] I really liked the first half of this book. I loved the set up, the characters. I feel like the last half was rushed and it had a lot of things going on. I feel like there were several conflicts going on and maybe it could have been simplified. also I though the spice was a bit lacking. overall, a decent read
