Two friends form a pact to date each other's exes in this adventurous ride for fans of Sarah Adams, brought to you by a mother daughter author duo.
Moxie moved to Colorado armed with a healthy distrust of others and seeking no-strings-attached adventure, but finds herself in a rut. Her job feels repetitive, she lacks close friends, and even one-night-stands aren't exciting anymore. That is, until a boring night gets interrupted when one of her coworkers comes in, distraught over a breakup. Moxie reluctantly comforts Hannah, but they soon realize they break up with men for opposite reasons. Soon, a pact to date each other's exes is born. After some waffling, Hannah convinces Moxie to go first, and try dating her ex, Wyatt.
Wyatt co-owns an adventure tourism company with his best friend. He and Moxie hit it off, but her distrust is quickly activated when she realizes that in an attempt to multi-task, Hannah has dragged her into a scheme to end a neighborhood feud, at the center of which are Hannah and Wyatt's parents. Wyatt must convince the new love of his life that his feelings are real, before he loses her, and the business that is everything he ever dreamed of. Moxie must open herself up to love in all its forms, before she alienates the only friends and partner she's ever had, and digs herself so deep into her rut, she'll never find her way out.
If readers loved the mountain backdrop and zany fun of Sarah Morgenthaler's Moose Springs Series, they'll love this journey, featuring all the beauty and majesty that a Colorado setting has to offer, goat yoga gone wrong, and a group of gossiping retirees who have no respect for boundaries.
This was my first book written by Kelly Ohlert and Linda Floyd. Such a cute rom com. The two main characters were adventurous, outdoorsy, very laid back. Quite different from alot of characters I seem to read.
Moxie and Hannah met at a bar when Hannah was upset about her love life. By the end of the evening a new friendship is blossoming, and a pact is forged. They're going to each set the other up with an ex.
This book follows Moxie and Wyatt. Two overall free spirits that learn and mature together while embracing some fun adventures and silly situations. This book will make you swoon, but also laugh out loud. I really enjoyed this book. Can't want for Hannah's turn at dating an ex.
This was a very cute, low states rom com with a few spicy scenes but nothing overly smutty. This includes the fake dating trope as well as the 'dating your friends ex' trop. It was fairly predictable but still cute and charming.
I had two small gripes; both minor: 1) The characters fell for reach other SO FAST; legit on like page 5. Would've preferred a bit more "will they/won't they" build up to increase the tension 2) There is a side plot surrounding character's parents that is used to set up the fake dating but it fell flat for me. We didn't get a good sense of the source of conflict. and then it was resolved super cleanly/fast. wasn't my favorite storyline in the book
But the main characters had good communication (which is something that bothers me when they don't). Albeit I could've done without the third act breakup -- but that's just personal preference!
Overall, I had a nice time reading this -- it was a solid rom com and good for escapism.
I love me a good rom-com & this did not disappoint! It’s written by a mother-daughter duo, which I think is just the coolest thing!
It’s hilariously written. From the first chapters you get a true feeling of who the characters are & their unique personalities. The family feud that’s incorporated into the book, is genuinely hilarious, including all their antics. Stitch & bitch?! I might have to start a chapter in my small town 😂😂😂
Moxie! Oh Moxie, at first I was like “girl, get it together!” She let her past hold her back SO much in life, but I love to watch a strong female finally taking control of her life! Her & Hannah’s unexpected friendship was so well done & so hilariously written. I laughed a lot reading their antics.
I absolutely loved Wyatt, the goofy, loveable Golden retriever that he is! I especially loved how much he cares for those in his life. He grew so much throughout this novel, and we get to see his commitment & growth really shine in the last half of the novel.
This is my third Arc book and let me just say one I am loving arc reads and love being given the opportunity to read and review them. I wanna say thank you to the author Kelly Ohlert for giving me this opportunity to read this Amazing book and review it for her. I will say this if you read this book you will love Moxie and Wyatt. Oh and I can’t forget about Hannah you will admire her organization and realize You Need a friend like that in your life because I know I do. lol Moxie has a great childhood and so does Wyatt, but something (I won’t say what happened) happens with Moxie’s parents when she was a kid and that affects Moxie when she gets older and her ability to trust people and commit to people. She has always been kinda of a loner until she meets Hannah and then Wyatt who change her life for the better. Moxie and Wyatt are both trying to find themselves and they find each other and fall in love. I loved their story so much. This is the perfect romance book to read and it is a quick read to. Now I can’t wait for Hannah’s book!!!
This was a 3-3.5/5 for me. While the premise sounded great, it fell a little flat for me personally. I thought the chemistry between the leads could have been better, especially since this was an insta love trope. One of my least favorite tropes - since they for the most part don’t seem overly genuine, and it’s really hard to fall for the characters when it doesn’t feel realistic. I felt that way for a lot of this book. It had a lot of good moments of laughter, tears and overall good feels, but it’s something I’d only recommend to a few friends who would enjoy this type of book. This was my first time reading these authors and I’d definitely read another. It was a fast read and it did keep me entertained and focused on the story. Just overall wasn’t my fave. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very cute story and definitely shows the struggles of being adult and human all together. It’s ok to leave your comfort zone and evolve from what norm is. This book follows moxie and her falling in love with life again. The power of friendship is powerful. Sometimes all it takes in that once friendship and one decision to change everything. You don’t have to be alone in this life. It’s also ok to change what you want your life to look like no matter who is watching. You deserve life you enjoy ! Read and find out just how Moxie navigates through it all. Will she find what she wants in life I will let you figure that out !
Overall, I found this to be a great read. The author doesn’t make you wait for any of the “romance” to begin, there are bit of a slow burn, and he definitely falls harder. There’s some spice, but I’d say it’s pretty tame for those who tend to like more closed door sexual encounters between characters. This was the first book I’ve read where the characters engaged in a variety of outdoor activities which I personally loved and helped to keep my interest. This was a fairly quick read and with a month until the release date I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on what would be such a great spring/summer read.
This was such a fun read for my 100th book of the year. The characters are quirky, relatable, and likable. I loved that their actions were believable and instead of letting communication issues persist, they were respectful and worked through their issues in a healthy way. I was rooting for things to fall into place for them. Honestly, I couldn’t put it down! I’m putting the author’s other books on my TBR list. 😁
This is the first book of the dating my ex series. It follows Moxie and Wyatt. This book was everything! It had me laughing out loud in some spots and had a good slow burn. And good spice!!! Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good romantic read!
I can't believe I waited so long to finally open this one. It was such a breath of fresh air and exactly what I needed right now. I laughed, I cried. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and couldn't wait to keep reading. Looking forward to the 2nd in this series!
If you were in a dating slump, would you consider going out with someone else’s ex? That is the beginning premise of An Ex-citing Proposition by Kelly Ohlert and Linda Floyd. Moxie is not looking for love. She’s at her usual bar after work looking for a hook-up when a co-worker arrives in tears. Before she knows it, Moxie has agreed to a dating pact with her new friend, Hannah. What follows is a funny — if sometimes a little off the rails— fake-dating storyline. While these are not one of my favorite romance tropes, I am usually willing to go along with the silliness to get to the HEA. This book did not disappoint.
The chapters mostly alternate viewpoints between Moxie and the male love interest Wyatt. Both of them have issues in their pasts to overcome before they can be in a true relationship. I liked the creative jobs the characters had (blackjack dealer and outdoor adventures guide), as well as the dynamic of the friendship with Hannah, who set them up. The Colorado setting made me wish I could see what the characters were viewing. I felt the feud between Wyatt’s and Hannah’s parents was a stretch at times. Also, personally, I prefer less spice in my romances but they fit the character of Moxie very well and did not feel as if they were gratuitous.
An Ex-citing Proposition was my third book by Ohlert and I think I would read anything she wrote. She knows how to combine romance and comedy for a satisfying read. This is book one in the Date My Ex series. I look forward to reading An Uncharted Ex-perience, which will be Hannah’s story.
Thank you to Kelly Ohlert for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
