Ah, Group 7. The virality you had...

I have a billion thoughts on this book that I'm saving for a full length YT video, but in short, the most obvious problem is that this book did not have any editors or beta readers lay eyes on it before it was indie published. The typos, the formatting, the syntax, the dialogue, the pacing...every rookie mistake you can make in a book was made.

The power system is confusing, information is not conveyed organically but through info dumping, and there are a number story choices that echo or rather replicate the X-Men and My Hero Academia so closely that you don't even have to squint to see them. It's almost 1 to 1 if you get what I mean, even with lines saying stuff about how "The Olympics are obsolete due to hero entrance exams for Chronos Academy taking their place" which is also something said in chapter 22 of My Hero Academia in regards to their UA Sports Festival.

You're not allowed to figure out anything for yourseld. Everything is told to you straight up, straight out, or foreshadowed in a way that you can guess what happens immediately.

Characters lack a great deal of relatability simply because...there are two characters that really do anything at all in this book, and every other character is mostly talked ABOUT and not really engaged with.

I don't want to discount Ian Boggs' passion for storytelling. It's there. You know it's there. But passion alone doth not a story make. He wrote it in a month and it reads like a book written in a month. So I hope he receives genuine constructive criticism and hires an editor before he releases the second part which is already in the works. This book is a really good example of why you just shouldn't rush a passion project even if there is demand for it. Traditionally published ESTABLISHED authors with experience take AT LEAST a year to write and edit a book. At least. It's okay to take your time. It's okay if it takes longer than you expected. Taking a year to work on a book that is polished and edited with maybe a few disgruntled and impatient fans is far better than doing too much all at once and releasing a book that is essentially a first draft and disappointing a huge number of fans and losing them longterm instead.

***EDIT*** So Mister Boggs just justified his typos and said they were intentional, since first editions of books like Harry Potter and the Great Gatsby had them, and look how much those editions are selling for? Basically he thinks he's doing us a favor and presupposing his book will gain the same level of recognition very, very quickly so his first editions value will go up. No???? Those books received editing. They saw editors. Those typos were genuine mistakes. Boggs' typos make some passages unreadable, and I think it's really unfair to his biggest fans who bought the book right away to say "oh well ACTUALLY you got an unfinished product, so if you want an edited version you have to buy that." Pretty slimy.

Good lord.

The author is passionate, and there's definitely an idea there. However, this book is a prime example of people severely underestimating the role of an editor, and how long it takes to craft a novel.

The writing is full of mistakes, it is confusing, it makes all sorts of rookie mistakes. It reads like a book that was written in a month.

Also, there is clear evidence of use of AI. Parts of the book are bullet point formatted straight copy and pasted in without any attempt to change the formatting.

What I would say, is that it was possibly the most successful marketing campaign I have seen in years. It's a sore shame that the book didn't deliver.

Oof. This is not what I was hoping for. Ian Boggs is a great marketer, and he poured a ton of energy into hyping this book up. Unfortunately, the same energy was not invested into it his writing.

I understand Ian loves this story, but he didn’t give it the time and love that a story deserves. This isn’t a novel. It’s an outline for a story.

I didn’t finish this. I was about 75 pages in, and I just couldn’t take it anymore. This is very painful to read. This book is riddled with spelling and grammar errors. Ian saying this is for our benefit so that edition one will be worth more in the future is a cop out for incredibly lazy writing. He goes on to compare this to first editions of Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings, which is completely insulting to Rowling and Tolkien. Even further than that, Ian is seemingly spoiling his own story with instagram reels in order to try to hype it up further.

I’m flabbergasted at the amount of people raving about this book. It’s genuinely unfinished. The people hyping this up are doing both the reading community and Ian a great disservice.

Further, the writing style is also distracting. The narrator is allegedly from the future, yet he keeps referencing modern day events around the 2020’s such as Covid or TikTok. It’s obvious that Ian is talking and not the main character.

There are also unfortunate large gaps in both the physical writing and in the story telling. These are lost opportunities for Ian to flesh out the world and make it feel like a real place. It’s full of unoriginal tropes already capitalized on by his inspirations.

I’m not saying any of this out of malice or disdain. I was genuinely looking forward to reading this story. I would encourage Ian to pull it from shelves, flesh it out, revise it, run it through an editor, and give the world and characters the love that they deserve. Unfortunately this feels like Ian just rushed it out for instant gratification. I don’t believe the rave reviews or family and friends of his are being honest with him about the quality of the story. This isn’t a finished product, and therefore, it isn’t worth reading in its current state.

I finished the book, but at what cost?

Listen, if this book gets some kid back into reading for the fun of it, amazing! That is a gift!

This book? A tragedy. I wanted to like it so bad, but I could feel my brain cells shriveling up and dying. The author got way too invested in getting views on instagram and should have taken more time on planning and writing out his book. Sorry!

Should had been a comic book…

The ideas were there. I can visualize what it could had been if it wasn’t on purpose to make it the way it is.

Ian did mentioned that the typos were made on purpose so people can have these “special edition” books that many other famous authors have done with typos. But those typos were not made intentional. If they were well they did so well to not make it noticeable. Or maybe I wasn’t able to pay attention. But this was just too much.

It is a short read but because of the typos, the emojis, and bullet points I couldn’t get into it.

The hype was there and you know it’s sad that when you overhype something the end product is just as a disappointment.

I felt as I was reading Deadpool’s point of view in a text message. Again, the idea is there I can see myself getting into the story but the way it was written took away that potential.

I hope the next part is different.

Did not finish.
(the following review is in German)

Naja.

The end is worth it

The beginning did not bother me too much, Boggs took the literary approach he wanted. It didn’t affect feeling transferred into the world. I can see how this could become an amazing piece of media. However, the middle felt out of place and the book appeared written in three ways. Despite these factors, I was blown away by the third part! I was not able to put it down, excited to read what happened next. While the book would benefit from professional review, it shows so much potential! I will be looking forward to the next installment!

This was a bad book. Just because you wrote a book doesn’t mean it’s good enough to publish.

For real this thing was just bullet points, terrible dialogue, and more of an outline than a book.

If he actually took the time to sit down and write the story I’m sure there’s a chance it could be good. Instead we got whatever you want to call this.

Exciting but Weird

The writing started out rough, became poetic around the middle, and settled on a mix of the two at the end. I couldn't stop reading, sometimes out of fascination and sometimes out of horror at how bad the writing was. This was a book hyped up on Facebook over more than a month. If the alliterations can be reigned in, this series has some real promise.

The marketing started off as excellent. Group 7 went viral, and like everyone else I was in that group. It seemed fun so I decided to give the book a try. The book is littered with poor spelling, mistakes, bad grammar and punctuation. The book could be a fun children’s anime, but as a book, it’s disappointing and lacks depth. The content also makes it unsuitable for the age group that might enjoy it.

Its a very short book with large font print, it can be read in an evening.

Additionally, it seems Ian Boggs will do anything for attention. He is now engaging with the transphobic Harry Potter franchise and indulging in supporting harming trans people to try to boost his book sales. Despicable. I have just returned my copy of the book.

This had the premise of being a really good book.

Unfortunately, the book had a lot of typos. The story jumped around a lot, particularly in the first half. It wasn't always clear when the character POV changed and there were only two characters that really interacted.

I felt it could have been more descriptive, both in the world building and the characters too.

the info was like straight out like here’s all you need to know, I was like thank you so much!! The writing was so passionate. And I know Ian Boggs is awesome. But this took him to eclipse division awesome
Ohhh my Gawawad! OMG! OMG! This book is just what I needed. To be honest. I’ve watched Ian Boggs for like 6 months now ( insta reels). And I have to say, WHAT THE?!!!?? This honestly had the smarts, mythology, powers, and AETHER?!? This is a whole nother level. And I kid you not when I heard Ian Boggs was making a anime. I spent three days thinking of what it’s going to be about. I was so pumped!!!!
I remember watching Ian Boggs on YouTube and I was like to my mom “this guy is going to go places!” And I was like what?! Then when I heard he was making a book?! I spent hours trying to find its name!! Then I realized it didn’t come out yet. Then I got invited to Group 7!!! Ahhh! Dream come true reading this book. Love it!!! Can’t wait for the next to come out!! Ian Boggs if you reading this. Remember, every moment happened to get you here. Anyways omg, love love love.

Short version: book is beyond awesome, Ian Boggs is the best. And can’t wait for the anime and the next book!!)

this reads like a middle school project got slightly upgraded. i know, because i am currently rereading my own (might be biased, but i think even my project was better...).

anyway. here's a random collection of my thoughts as i read!

the narration style oh my god. i am dying. PLEASE. WHY IS HE INFO DUMPING WHILE HES IN A COMA. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

actual quote from the first page of chapter 10: ">_< Highkey a genius tho, hehe ^_<" YES. INCLUDING THE FACE THINGIES.

"...could crush my soul--if I had one." - ch 22

IM SO SORRY DID THE JAPANESE MOTHER SAY "Nani" LIKE AN ANIME CHARACTER? I KNOW ITS A REAL WORD BUT THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO EXPRESS THE SAME THING.

everything said in this book is either wildly dramatic (poetic? perhaps) & try-hard profoundity (?) or comical. i cant 😭

i dont need to be hearing about tiktok, youtube, REDDIT in my sci-fi/fantasy book. please.

oh okay now we get some great characterization, after kai "oh i hate being nice" zephyr. and its for the FUCKING GRANDPARENTS? we should be getting this for mr. akira akuma (bye bye little butterfly!)

"the Evretts called it suggestive imagery" i call trees taller than sound and birds the size of mistakes suggestive imagery

JUMPSCARE

we are going on some fun side quests right now...very nice but very pointless.

ok so the mom and dad get this lyrical poetry and the main character gets "wow i have a big shit!!!1!!!1111"

ok so every beautiful thing that just happened was destroyed by "bitch slap". also whats with the font changes pls

omg dumbledore is back.
"Akira," Mom says softly. "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!"

okay so they bonded over a year, sure, but we see ABSOLUTELY NONE OF IT. we do NOT get to feel the extent of their friendship deepening because it JUST. GETS. GLOSSED. OVER.

why is kai an uwu boy. please. i cant. even akira is less bad that this

ive officially given up. goodbye this book!

The formatting is insanely bad and the entire novella is a glorified outline of an idea for a novel. I have to hand it to Ian Boggs, he really missed his calling as a salesman, he could probably sell ice to a penguin. The hype train for this was amazing and I fell for it but the book itself is a scam. He spent two years "worldbuilding" it and like two months actually writing it. He has very little original worldbuilding, he just rebrands other franchises. Most of what he has is straight out of My Hero Academia and his writing skill isn't even good enough for fan fiction.

He spaces things out so badly and so egregiously in an attempt to use up the pages. You just have inches of blank spaces between paragraphs or even sentences. He has 0 transitions when switching between character POVs, he has no formatting to denote when we're switching from texts back to narrative or internal thoughts. He has no distinction between thoughts and narration. The book is riddled with massive typos that he defended saying they're "intentional" because they'll drive up the price of the book. He clearly thinks he's written the next great American novel but no author says "I intentionally wrote in a slew of typos to increase the value of my book."

This book is nothing more than an outline posing as a book and is better off being the designated spider squasher or a paperweight. It is 100% not worth the $24.99 for the hardcover edition. Do not buy this, do not buy the second edition, and do not buy any further installments. The whole thing is a scam. If I could give it 0 stars I would have.

"I'd rather die than not be a hero." Damn. I get it. Each line in this book hit me on a cellular level. If you ever had a dream this book will wake you up and pull you into a whole new world. Firstly, the world building in this book was mind blowing with the level of detail, and unlike any book I've ever read especially in the sci fi/fantasy genre. It reminded me of the origin story of a Marvel superhero but the detail was just phenomenal. I was pulled in right away into the world. Each chapter is short and easy to read and moves quickly, the stakes are high! The book blends science with spiritual and philosophical insights that will make you think about life, it was entertaining but also made me wonder. What is so unique about this book is the protagonist is speaking to you so you get to go along for the journey. For me this book is genius and just the level of imagination and creativity that I would expect for a creator like Ian Boggz. I can definately see this as a live action film or animation, the storytelling is excellent and I look forward to part 2. I can't wait to know what happens next. You will not be the same after this book, go read it.

Over all it was a great book. Enjoyable, engaging, one of those books you just don’t want to put down. The only criticism I have are the spelling and formatting errors. I get that he’s justified them by saying that they were purposeful to show that they were first edition and that they would one day sell for way more, but the thing is it make some parts unreadable and I genuinely spent 2 minutes rereading the same sentence to understand what he was saying. Then in the contents section the page numbers were off by 3 once it got to phase 5 and that threw me off a bit. Other than that I really enjoyed it. Last night I was up until 6:30 in the morning because I didn’t want to stop reading. Been a far of Ian Boggs since 2021 and loved how he incorporated the superpower pills and would love to see him start more of those POVS

Well, Group 7 hype brought me here. DonI regret it? No, I had fun with this book, it's a quick read and felt like the intro prequel to a larger series.

Looking forward to the next.

Some things to take into consideration:
- book was supposed to be set i. 2125, but the constant use of modern brands (Youtube, Tiktok, Draino) really takes you out of it...
- ...which is easy to do as this book greatly suffers from "talking-head" and "white room" syndromes. Like ffs, just tell me something about where we are not in an info dumpy way
- the book is info-dump central. Characters straight up tell you things, bullet points and all

Smart social media marketing got me to pick up this book! Ian Boggs “Group 7” video showed up on my Instagram feed; I watched it. The next week and a half, I saw more Group 7 Eclipse videos. After the 4th or 5th one, I was interested enough to order it. I like his writing although I could do without the emoticons. I liked the short chapters and the pace of the story was good. It did take me a bit to truly get into it, but the end was intriguing and I’m interested to see where it goes. I LOVE Aura!

Good book, great story...

Solid story overall, but I do wish it had been longer. The characters are well thought out and developed, but I do think there could have been a little more exposition in some spots. I definitely do recommend reading this if you enjoy sci-fi in the same vein as the Barcode series, just be ready for a bit of disorientation because the twists can hit pretty fast.

The story itself is interesting as all get out, but its a little hard to read, especially in the beginning. It kind of fluctuates from excited cracked out need telling you about his fave subject to a dude bro trying to be poetic and going over board. Towards the end it felt more like an anime, which is fine. Overall I'd probably day 3.5 Stars, I would probably read the next one just for more lore.
