Wallflower, Conner Stonebrooke, would rather be left alone to read about the werewolves and other creatures rumored to roam the forests near his college dorm.
Instead, he is assigned a much more frightening task: interviewing the star football player, Gage Lockwood. Gage isn’t just a star– he’s also Conner’s crush. Tall, dark, and undeniably handsome, Gage’s perfect body and bad boy attitude keep Conner both aroused and at bay.
However, Gage is a notorious recluse shrouded with secrecy– and the closer Conner gets to him, the more mysterious things begin to happen.
Werewolves and Wallflowers is a hot new gay paranormal, erotic romance between a geeky guy and his muscular, jock crush. Adult Content Warning: Contains explicit scenes, language, and themes indented for a mature audience that enjoys man on man erotic fiction.
Harper Long was born and raised in Southern California. Always interested in fantasy lives, Harper began writing supernatural stories in college before developing a style for romance shortly after. Werewolves and Wallflowers is the surprising debut series that takes readers to Zephyr Harbor, a secretive town full of a hot romance and wildly charming characters.
Oh, dear. This was very hectic. It sort of felt like it should be a comic or a teenage fantasy, but with sex scenes. It just didn't fully connect for me. I think the fact that everyone found Conner good-looking (it's mentioned alot for some reason even while down-playing his looks) and the creature feature school setting just made it all too wish-fulfilment for me. I'm pretty sure this is going to be a popular series though - it has that sort of feel to it, but I can already see it's not going to be one that I follow, which is a shame because I loved the blurb and title. Still, I already spend way too much on way too many other ongoing series'!
Well I agree with some others, there were some mistakes (words, spelling, etc), but nearly as many as I imagined. It didn't take away from the story. This first installment we meet the main characters: Gage and Conner. Conner is just your average human who goes to college where supernatural things seem to occur. He is very interested in all that.
Then he meets Gage and the nonhuman world explodes in his face. Good ending to this. Left with no cliffhanger.
2.5 stars. It was a great outline for a story but unfortunately that's all you get. It brushed over the important points of the story but didn't go into depth on any of them. It was literally the bare bones of a story. The MC's felt two dimensional and in fact I enjoyed the flashes we see of Remy's character more than Conner or Gage. Gage was a non-entity and he is supposedly one of the leading men.
The editing needed help and frankly much of the problems could have been caught using two or three proofreaders. The author may want to also re-check her blurbs on Amazon as they also have spelling errors.
The price of the book was definitely easy on the wallet and though I bought both stories currently out, I'm doubting I'll read the second. The first book was, to put it bluntly, boring. The sex and it's descriptions were a mix of childish euphemisms and flowery prose. Perhaps with a little more experience Ms. Harper will improve. I'll check back in a year or so.
The first half was silly and poorly written, but around 57% I reached OMG WTF BBQ territory...I was laughing out loud from the ridonkulousness of it all.
This was a good start to first installment we meet the main characters: Gage and Conner. Were Conner see that their is some paranormal in the town. Can't wait to see what come in the second book
Long gives us no real surprises or moments of true suspense here. The hot college guys predictably lust for each other and have hot monkey sex all over campus amidst the background of a spooky college town with a supernatural under layer. Some really good descriptive writing helps to elevate this effort above the usual gayrotica dreck by giving some actual thought to things like atmosphere, location and character details but not quite enough to make it truly great. Given its short length, it's a quick read so since you're not going to have to invest much of your time digesting this one, go ahead and enjoy this bit of light but fun lycanthropic fluff!
Werewolves and Wallflowers had a really strong beginning and then started to go downhill once Gage was introduced. The sudden change from "Lone wold" to "I'm madly in love with you" just didn't make sense, especially since Gage and Conner only knew each other for about 4 hours. It was kinda boring and very rushed.
This book had so many potential. We got shifter, sasquatch, a witch, a psychic, an earthbender? (I watched Avatar Aang, btw). There's so much going on in this cute little book. And hey, I don't mind with that if I liked the story.
Actually this doesn't feel like romance story. It's more like suspense and action story. And I feel weird with the MC's. I just didn't feel connect with them.
This seemed much shorter than the stated 81 page count. While there isn't a great amount of detail here, I think this first installment serves to set a foundation for the series. There are several types of paranormal/mythical characters introduced; witches, mages, and even a sasquatch make appearances along with a harpy-like creature.
I think I will pick up the next installment just to see where the series goes. Besides, the guy on the next cover is pretty damned hot.
Really a 3.5. While the blurb is all true there is a lot more action and supernatural stuff going on than you expect. Although the writing lacks a little polish, the story plot was good and the the pacing was perfect. I enjoyed seeing the wallflower as he becomes more confident and also all the hints we get that he makes more of an impact on people than he realizes. Gage is a jock but has a protective bent. We don't learn all his secrets in the story in an effort, I think, to entice us further in the series. The story is a standalone but, given the preview of the next one that's included in the book, I'm ready to read on.
The story was engrossing and the characters were likable. I would, however, spend a little more time on character development - they are good, but a little more depth would help the story along. I would also suggest better proofreading/editing (it sometimes clouded what the author was trying to say). That being said, I look forward to the next book!
I just loved this book so far. Conner and Gage are two college students. Conner is very shy and Gage is a football player with a secret. These two are starting a relationship with each other with the up and downs that come with it. I can not wait for the next book. Erin
The problem with this series is that people who would pick the book based on these covers aren't the people who would actually enjoy it. There are werewolves involved, yes, there is some sex, but basically it's quite over the top and not too complicated college themed urban fantasy adventure story. It's fun but I can see how some readers can be disappointed.
2.5 Needed something...more. *shrug* Not quite enough of any one thing to really hold my attention. Potential is there, just not quite realized. I did like the idea a lot and will probably check out future work by this author.
Very imaginative and a really good story line. This book had a little of everything I like in a book. I enjoyed this a lot and I am just about to read book two.
