Sho's voice is great for audiobooks! It's very motivating to listen to. He really sounds like a coach. He sounds believable, likeable, and like he knows what he's talking about, and he is very easy to listen to. I think this is particularly good for young professionals based on how he talks.

His stories are interesting as well. I particularly liked the story about working abroad without telling his boss Karen in New York---it's something that I've thought about, but never put into practice (in part because time differences really kill me).

To me, this book is a little more focused on the "Get Happy" part of the title, but reframes and provides a good framework for how to be happy within your career and your compensation. I appreciated his insight on how what you do isn't perfectly coupled with your job title, and how to tailor your resume and how you sell yourself based on that. The living beliefs framework is also good for this. He recommends making a brag book to improve your confidence as well, which I''d never thought of but will try!

I also thought Sho had useful advice for negotiation, which I've never done before.

One thing I wasn't sure about was when he suggested asking AI for specific job titles or skills to highlight or research based on your interests and experiences. On one hand, I understand that using AI can help you not be automatically filtered out by whatever program HR is using to exclude applicants, but I'm still quite skeptical of AI overuse. I do like that he says it shouldn't be the only place you should look.

I like his explanation of how you may be "underqualified" but you can still go for it, because that is a very good point. Additionally, I think it's great for an audience of young professionals who might not be confident or have imposter syndrome.

One thing I really think helped me was his philosophy of "pebbling" in regards to networking, by reaching out to people every time you think about them, with just quick and easy things to keep you on their mind & be flattering to them that they made such a big impression on you. That's something I really think I can improve on.

He also says that "people often want to be helpful, especially when you already have rapport with them", which is a good thing to keep in mind for me, as someone who often assumes I'm bothering people.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this e-ALC for free in exchange for an honest review.
