Miranda…
I was always the life of the party, the happy one.
Until Preston killed my soul.
When he came into my life, he destroyed me. I was a shell of my former self, pretending to be fine while wishing I wouldn't wake up the next day. I never dreamed my best friend would come back into my life...and bring Brad Nicholson with her.
I never dreamed the homicide detective with the cocky attitude could show me my worth again. He could show me that my life could be amazing every day.
Until the day he found out about my past with Preston. Then, I was sure he'd see the real Miranda and ditch me for good.

Brad…
From a young age, I made a decision.
I knew what I wanted to do with my life and from that point on, my work molded me. Everything became routine. Casual. Until Mackenzie walked into my life, bringing her best friend, Miranda, with her.
From the first moment I saw Miranda, I knew she could be someone special. I didn’t have time for relationships, but she was different. She was a piece of the puzzle that could be missing. But she was broken, I could see that. And all I wanted to do was turn her into the girl I knew she really was beneath her perfectly placed mask.

"I'm saying, I've spent my life chasing you without knowing it. And I think you've done the same. We've been chasing each other to get to this moment. That's a lifetime of work and I'm not throwing it away"

omg this truly was an amazing, dark and emotional read!

The heroine, Miranda, is such a heartbreaking character. I felt for her from the beginning right up until the last page. Depression, a drug addition, and a past abusive relationship made her self esteem completely non-existent and it's the way the author writes this self-doubt that truly tugs at the heart strings.

"I was nothing. Absolutely nothing. I asked myself why I hadn't given up. Wondered why I hadn't cut myself open completely and let the vile inside of me bleed out along with my life."

Like I said, heartbreaking.

And then she meets Brad. Mmmm Brad. Loved him. He is detective who was amazing with Miranda and I loved how he brought out the best in her. It took time, but the little voice in her head telling her she was nothing slowly started disappearing the more time she spent with him.

What I would have given the book 5 stars? One word- Preston. I wanted more...

All of my dark & emotional romance book junkies will love this book. I HIGHLY recommend it! :-)

I didn't read the first book, but this can be read as a standalone. The POV alternates between Miranda and Brad.

Miranda is damaged from her first boyfriend, Preston. She is broken and has zero confidence in herself. Issues come up when she starts getting text message and phone calls from Preston again. She doesn't want to worry her friends and family, so she keeps it bottled up inside.

Brad is a detective that fell in love with Miranda. His only issue is the 9 year age difference. Honestly... he's a complete asshole most of the time, but he is a sweetheart deep inside.

I loved their relationship and their light banter. I found myself laughing a lot at their comments. Thanks JD Rivera.

I LOVED Chasing the Stars, the first book in this series, but this story blew me away!

This story takes place after CTS but can be read as a standalone BUT I highly recommend reading both! I feel like J.D. has so much potential and has grown so much as an author - this story proves just that!

*Potential spoilers*

Miranda has a pretty rough patch in life while with her ex and then dealing with some of the issues following that. Some of these thoughts are hard to read for an average person However, for anyone that has been there, it is an accurate portrayal of those emotions of self-loathing, doubt and not feeling like you're good enough. What may seem minor to an average person isn't for someone full of these emotions and traumatic past.

When you consider this regarding Miranda's emotions and really get to know her story, she is a very strong female, even with the weak moments. Some of her irrational behaviors seem like that to a person who hasn't experienced the things she did but in reality she's doing everything she can to survive, move on and become a stronger and better person.

Brad...he's definitely the sexy cop and you finally get some of his history/story in this book. He did frustrate me at times especially in how he treated Miranda but he is so patient with her and really tries to understand what makes her the way she is without pushing her. Honestly though, I get it especially because at their ages, society isn't always supportive. He's also a cop and typical guy. Lol.

Getting to see where their story takes you after catching a small glimpse in Chasing the Stars, was amazing. Miranda's back story is so much more than I expected and I'm glad to have gotten to know her. Brad's story isn't as complicated but this story is more about Miranda and how he becomes a part of her story, which isn't picture perfect either but so great to read!

I really love the depth this author added to this story and touched on some pretty serious topics, with out getting too deep and still giving a fantastic story! I can not wait to see more from this author and what levels she'll continue to reach with her writing!

OMG!! Omg!! So..I just finished this book and I LOVED it!! I will not give away any spoilers but from the beginning I was hooked. It touched on two subjects that are close to me personally or have been an issue within my family. Perhaps that helped me connect with the book more but either way, it is an excellent book!! I cannot give this book, series or author enough praise!! I can't wait to see what's to come from this amazing author! If you haven't read Chasing The Stars yet, the first book in the series, I highly recommend it, followed by Chasing Each Other when it releases.

**DEBBIE'S 4.5 STAR REVIEW**

This is the second book in this series, and even though it could be read as a stand alone, I would suggest you read the first book Chasing The Stars before this one. You will get background about the two main characters of this book and Chasing The Stars was also a fantastic read.

This is the story of Brad and Miranda. Brad is sort of Mackenzie’s adopted brother and also Mackenzie is Miranda’s best friend. Brad and Miranda have been around each other several times and the attraction is undeniable. The problem is that Brad is 9 years older than Miranda and he has an issue with that. Miranda’s problem with getting involved with Brad is that she was in a very abusive relationship in the past and doesn’t feel worthy of him. Can they let their insecurities go and try out a relationship? You are going to have to read the book to find out.

“I didn’t want to admit that I needed someone. I wanted everyone to think of me as the bubbly happy girl I used to be.”

I loved this book and devoured it in less than a day. I seriously could not put it down. The story was written very well and was told in both Brad and Miranda’s point of view. The secondary characters added a fantastic layer to this story and you really felt the love between all of them. The book had some pretty funny parts and just the right amount of angst to make my stomach ache several times. The book moved at a great pace and not once did I feel like skimming parts. Every part of this story worked perfectly.

I would say I had a love/hate relationship with Brad. One minute he would be so sweet and the next he was a big ole’ jerk. My heart went out to Miranda several times and I totally understood why she felt the way she did about herself. The book had no over-the-top drama that had me rolling my eyes. The story was realistic and totally believable.

If you are looking for a book that has a little bit of everything and will have you glued to your reading device from beginning to end then you might want to give this book a try.

Escape into my Reads Book Blog

*Beta read & Arc provided by author in exchange for an honest review*

Miranda is Makenzie’s best friend who we met in Chasing the Stars. In the first book we got a snippet of Miranda struggling with her own battles against her drug abusive ex-boyfriend Preston. Chasing Each Other takes us back to how Miranda’s life changed when she first met and fell in love with Preston, a guy who went on to destroy her confidence and made her self-reliant on him for her next fix of drugs whilst losing herself unashamedly along the way. This story covers issues of low self-esteem, a girls struggle to overcome her negative thoughts and how she felt the need to splurge the ugliness out of her to feel she was worthy of love. This book isn’t heavy to read but those who have experienced such emotional turmoil’s and battled drug addictions will be able to relate and understand anything is possible to overcome addictions and negative thought patterns with the right support of family and friends, and even better when you actually find the one person who showers you with real love and will do anything to protect you. This story will make you feel the courage a young girl faces to regain her identity, allow love into her life in the form of one hot sexy detective Brad Nicholson who is hot for Miranda despite his reservation of their age gap but wanting nothing more than to heal this beautiful broken girl, protect her and make her his woman. The scene in the rain was a highlight for me and had me gushing for my own Brad. Hayes & Mac make appearances which is always a plus and Carson was sweet. Well done to J.D Rivera in covering a story so personal to those suffering with depression and breaking through the darkness to overcome despair and hardships one faces in their own struggles in life.

Miranda is a very lost person but not in the way one would think. She though she found the love of her life and boy was she dead wrong. Now we all know that when we are in love regardless of our age we tend to overlook somethings. I know I have been there before. But anyway...this character is a hell of a lot stronger than she gives herself credit for. Now a few years later she is a shell of woman. She now believes every negative, mean, rude, smart*ss comment that her ex said to her. So she hides in her shell and lets people believe that she is happy and loving life...when in reality she is drowning inside.
Brad is a man who is very dedicated to his work and we know that when you’re a detective you end up being the job. He is a hot very attractive person and has zero time of a relationship, so he happens to have a few one nighters here and there. Then he sees her again and he is freaking out because he is so attracted to her and she is way younger than him.
Now I can't write this review without spoiling just a little and I am very sorry because I hate to give your free samples ;)
Let me tell you that I feel in love with this story. This book is so much more than a love story. To me it is about forgiveness, learning to love yourself, and trust. I love Miranda's character because I know there are a lot of Miranda in this world and if I could save every single one of them, I would in a heartbeat. I can honestly say that this book hits very close to home.
All I have to say is when I was done reading this book I told J.D. Rivera that I needed to find me a Brad. Man oh man will his character leave you swooning. The ending of this book was bittersweet to me, only because I wanted to know more. I need to know what happens next in their lives, and no this isn't a cliffhanger either. This is just me not wanting to say goodbye to two amazing characters.

I was expecting this to be SO good, because it has a ton of great and high ratings but it didn't work for me. Eeverything seemed average and plain, I felt nothing for the characters, sometimes I was confused because I mixed them up. The writing style is simple and kinda cute, but didn't had that something that gripped me or make me wanna know more.

I read a ton of books and a ton of NA so maybe that's why I'm more critical and I want the books to be more complex; but complex as in vivid, interesting, with feelings, to not make me fall asleep and to feel the chemistry between the characters. Or at least to be able to diferentiate the two perspective and to care about what is going on.

This is a NO for me, despite I'm the only one who dislikes it.

Title: Chasing Each Other
Author: J.D. Rivera
Rating: 4/5

Thanks to NetGalley and Red Coat PR for letting me receive a digital copy before the official release.

Miranda… I was always the life of the party, the happy one.

Brad… From a young age, I made a decision.

Miranda is a character that didn't need a hundred of pages until I liked her. That's what I liked about her - it only took a couple of pages until I dived into the story and really felt her pain and horror. I had some trouble liking the prologue though, but maybe that's because it was rushed. You don't find out a lot about the person, but then again that makes sense since it is a prologue. Oh my, do I even make sense now?! haha.

And now Brad... Gah, I need more cops in books. I'm a huge fan of authors who deal with age gapes, and whew, a sexy cop just made it to my favourite list. I need more cops in new adult books (remember that all you aspiring authors, please) Funny thing, I never understood why he thought of himself as a bad person. I would have assumed he did something terrible or something like that.

I'm out of words already. You know, I thought this read would be much more... Thrilling, as in a horror kind of way. I am glad it wasn't like that. Miranda has to deal with her past, but I'm so glad isn't wasn't something predictable. When I started reading Chasing Each Other I was like: "Alright, I know where this is heading." I was pleasently surprised, though.

What I didn't like, and yes, there is something I didn't like, were Mackenzie and Hayes. I mean, they were awesome friends and they both make you want them in your life. So maybe I liked them, yeah, I'm confusing as well, I know. What I really mean is that I am not as interested in their story as I was/am in Brad's and Miranda's, which is why I'll probably only read Chasing The Stars because I liked the author's style. I often wondered whether the author was from America or not. Not because of her English, because her English is great, but because the used words were extra ordinary and thought-through. I wish I could write like that.

So, I really, really missed reading new adult books lately and I am glad I requested this one on NetGalley. It was such a good choice to get back in the game! Thank you J.D. Rivera for creating these characters and this story. I absolutely enjoyed every second of reading it, which I can even prove. I had to read it on the Kindle app via my cell phone. Normally, I dislike reading things on my cell phone, but I couldn't even put it down this time. It was that good!

Chasing Each Other is a dark and emotional romance, telling us the story of Miranda and Brad.
From the moment these two met, a powerful attraction was created and we've got their story through dual POV. This book was written in a very intimate way, alternating the thoughts of each protagonist.

Miranda is a young woman with a dark past, leaving her shattered and broken. She has also with a big crush on her foster best friend's brother (Brad).
The shadows of her past were still tormenting her; her flaws couldn't be shown to anyone; too ashamed of who she was; trying so hard to fight her dark addiction. She used to be the carefree and joyful one. Two years with her ex boyfriend utterly broke her soul and destroyed everything she was.
Her feelings for Brad, a man too perfect and unattainable were increasing ; and the age difference added also a huge gap. She was confused by his attentions and thought that she couldn't catch his attention, be someone worthy to be loved.

Brad is a detective, married to his job and having only one night stands. When he met Miranda, he saw her pain and he was already hooked and drawn to her. Each time he saw her increasing his feelings for someone who was off-limits. Miranda awaken feelings he has never felt before; jealousy and a need to protect her.
This guy was so amazing with her and his family. He wanted to protect what's his, even of he was struggling with these overwhelming feelings, pull and undeniable connection.
Their age difference was a huge issue to him.

The more they spent time together and the more each other wanted to peel off all the layers, especially Brad; who sensed that she was hiding something. He was persistent but giving her time for revealing the truth. I appreciated Brad's protective side and how he helped Miranda to find her old self. I wanted all along the story to get them together; they were so complimentary and belonged together. I was frustrated at Brad's stubbornness when it comes to their age difference and impressed by Miranda's fight against her addictions. She went through a lot and reading about her flaws and sorrows made her so much real and so heartbreaking!

As the story unfolds, I wanted to know more about Miranda's secret and how things ended left rather unsatisfied; I think it needed more deepening. However, I enjoyed how they were constantly chasing each other, Brad has definitely some book boyfriend material!
J.D Riviera wrote an amazing romance with a hint of suspense and strong heroes ; a female character as a survivor and an alpha but sweet male character.

Chasing Each Other was a story of two souls finding their way to each other. It had drama, romance, passion, and a dose of reality thrown in. I enjoyed this story overall. In my opinion, it was a bit short, but that is probably because I had been reading monster books lately. I finished it pretty quickly and left satisfied. I do wish there had been a few more areas of the story expanded on but that is just me loving the little details that maybe someone else won’t. This story delves into who Miranda and Brad are as individuals, giving glimpses into their present and past, while weaving a story of two lost souls together. Miranda has lived through a hell that many can relate to. I feel like Rivera did a good job of showing the mental affects and struggle of someone who has left a terrible abusive relationship and addiction. I appreciated that her reality with addiction was portrayed in such a way that there is no miracle fix. She is constantly battling the want to use and the want to be free. Brad is a man who has seen the horrors of the world and lives with the scars. He fights for justice and peace. I admired his reality and his honesty. His attraction to Miranda is one that cannot be ignored. He is drawn to her sadness, wanting to save her from whatever she fears. I feel like these two, despite their age difference and life experiences are two old souls. They connect, feeling a blossoming love and affection that leads to a deep friendship and hopes for a future.
There is a major plot point that happens with Miranda, a haunting from her past that she cannot shake. When the climactic point hits, I was expecting more. When I took a step back I realized that this is a realistic life situation. So many times in New Adult books, there is such a huge climactic point that is over-dramatized and crazy. Most times it works with the plot so you think wow, that was huge. With this story, the climactic point makes sense with what was happening. So much of the insecurities and struggles with Miranda are internal. The past few years were brutal to her and in her mind the world would end if her secrets were revealed. The ebb and flow of the drama allowed her to understand that her problems and insecurities were valid but something she could overcome with her friends, family, and support.

The message of this story allows for an authentic view of addiction and self-loathing. Miranda has the weight of the world on her shoulders and when she realizes that her secrets are better shared, she learns to fight hard alongside those that she loves. Watching her struggle is hard but it is real. Addiction is not a switch to turn off but a lifetime of choices. I feel like Rivera showed that wonderfully in this book. I am excited for more from this series, hopefully with glimpses of Miranda and Brad. I am excited to have a glance into their HEA!

I received a copy of this story through NetGalley from Red Coat PR for an honest review. Thank you! I'm not sure I would have immediately been drawn to this book so that's why I am SO glad the publisher let me have the opportunity to try Ms. Rivera's writing. This book was incredible! I have not read the first book, and although they do make appearances, I never felt like I couldn't follow along with Miranda and Brad's story. In fact, I so enjoyed this that I am going to go back to read the first book.

Although I couldn't personally identify with Miranda's struggles, the author has an amazing talent for getting me to emotionally connect with her characters. My heart hurt for Miranda and every moment she struggled with her addiction and insecurities. She's been broken and going into a new relationship means she needs a little extra care with her feelings. Brad does not do that. Flat out I wanted to punch him in the crotch for most of the book. He's a self-described a$$hole and for all of his worries about their age difference, he has the maturity of a 19 year old (at least what he thinks of the maturity for someone that age). BUT again, this is where the author does her magic and made me care about him. He's struggling himself, he's human, and he's definitely not perfect. Put these two together and there's bound to be emotional pain no matter how unintentional. Despite all of this, they are still better together and perfect for each other and once everything about Miranda's past is out, they are able to move forward into a healthy relationship.

A trivial thought... did anyone else notice how frequently these people accidentally sneak up and scare each other?

This story is told from alternating points of view between Miranda and Brad. Reading both sides as they struggle to come to terms with their feelings and pasts made it more impactful. The author's pacing, supporting characters and storytelling make this a great book and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Amazing book!

Chasing Each Other is Brad and Miranda's story, whom we met in Chasing the Stars . It is the second book in the Chasing series but can be read as a standalone.

Since he met her, Brad felt an attraction for Miranda. But for him, their age difference was too much and he couldn't see someone as beautiful and young as Miranda wanting something with him.
From the moment she met him, Miranda felt a pull towards Brad. But she couldn't believe someone as hot and kind as Brad would want something with a girl with a troubled past like her.
Until the day they can't deny their connection anymore. Will Brad accept their age gap? Will Miranda tell Brad about her past? And how will he react when he finds out?

Chasing Each Other is an amazing book with an incredible story. It takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and keeps the reader hooked from the first page. It is a very emotional romance, a little dark, full of drama, but also has laughter and very steamy scenes.

I loved Brad, although sometimes he seems to be a little bit of an a**hole. He is very sweet and kind with the people he loves. I loved his relationship with his mother, Mackenzie and Harley, and how he was so patient with Miranda.
Miranda is a broken girl. Her previous boyfriend damaged her not only physically but also emotionally. When she meets Brad, she doesn't have any self-esteem and tries very hard to survive each day and keep the demons of her past away. Deep down she is a fighter and you can't help but cheer for her.

J.D. Rivera wrote an amazing book with an incredible story and awesome characters. Her writing style is fantastic and makes the reader connect with the characters. I really loved seeing Hayes and Mackenzie again and I would love to read more about Carson. He was awesome!

Another powerful story to immediately engage and hook me in. I read this in hours and I was so shocked and pleased with how Miranda and Brad's stories were so much more than just the brother and friend. They had layers and real life struggles and you could feel their emotions and you wanted more and better for them both. Brad is a great guy regardless but he really needed someone to show him there is more to life than work and being alone. Miranda's character was so fragile yet so strong to fight her addictions and past head on. It was a roller coaster and of course there was some angst , Brad may be nearing 30 but Miranda and the rest of the gang are very early 20's, which is known as the ANGST AGE !!

This may have been Brad and Miranda's book BUT I enjoyed catching up with Mackenzie , Hayes and OMG their lil one is too cute !! The year that Mackenzie was gone was not good for Miranda AT ALL. She had met Preston , quickly got caught up with him and that landed her on the wrong path. Now on the right track she is drooling over Brad , the hot detective , Mackenzie's foster brother. He is older and more put together so of course she doesn't feel worthy of him. But being thrown together in a couple of situations allows for them to get to know each other , become friends and share with us that magical sexual tension that we all love !!!!! Miranda's struggles are so real and so heartfelt she has you on the edge of your seat more than once fearing the demons may drag her down. Once her and Brad make things clear the past then haunts Miranda every step of the way. She knows once Brad knows he won't want her , she acts as if they don't have a future because of what she is. She lets the doubt and fear drag her down , it is almost worse than the addiction. Then a certain homicide case leads Brad to Miranda and the truth comes out. Will Miranda own up to her mistakes or will she run away ?? Can Brad get past Miranda's secrets or is it too much for him to handle ?? JOin the journey and find out if the chase is worth it !! Also enjoy some hotness and swoon worthy moments too !!

4.5 Stars!

This book was amazing! It touches base with some struggles that everyday people have. J.D. Rivera took a chance with this book, and I am so glad she did.

Even though I’ve never dealt with the half the struggles Miranda was dealing with, you feel her pain and suffering every step of the way. Rivera has a hauntingly beautiful way of making you feel like you are living her life with the way the world blend and mold together, sucking you in. My heart broke for Miranda, knowing that Preston, a boy from her past, made her feel worthless. I caught myself on the verge of tears reading the things she would say about herself. Reading that she felt she was “good for nothing” was devastating. Enter Brad.

Brad is nine years older than Miranda, but had been completely smitten with her since practically the first time he laid eyes on her. His only hang up was their age difference. I immediately liked Brad, and I think that’s because I could see through his hard façade. I loved his character. I felt he was brutally honest at one point, and once he knew he loved her, he ran with it and never looked back. I love that in a character. “I knew I loved her, but I hadn’t realized exactly how much. She was my one. My everything.” (aww!)

J.D. Rivera wrote Miranda’s daring story with grace and passion. I wish that the book had gone on longer, as I feel that there should’ve been more of Miranda and Brad finding themselves after finding out about Preston. However, at the end you are left smiling, and that’s the way I like to end a book.

Thank you Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review!

I really liked reading this book, though not as much as I hoped I would.

The story follows Miranda and Brad on their journey to find each other. Miranda has a dark past that she doesn’t want Brad to learn, and Brad is stuck on a 9 year age gap between them. Brad must learn to move past his indifference to their ages, just as Miranda must decide whether to share herself with Brad or to let her past hold back on her future.

One thing that I loved about this book was that the story was told from both of their perspectives, that way I wasn’t left wondering what the other thought of this or why they did that. I also really liked the kind of cat and mouse game they played at the beginning, as both characters were kind of blinded to the other feelings and both assumed that the other felt platonic. One other thing that I enjoyed was following Miranda’s struggle with addiction. It was relatable to me since I have had to deal with similar issues with friends/family so I liked going along with her on her journey to staying sober.

One thing that I disliked about the book was that I felt there was too much time spent on certain parts of the book and not enough on others. That alone would not stop me from recommending the book, I would have just preferred there been more time spent on some of the bigger moments, and less on the little things.

Miranda had a pretty good life, until she started dating Preston. Really Preston was pretty great to start out, then he got swept away with drugs and took Miranda along for the ride, causing her to do things she never thought she would. He changed who she was, she became a happy shell on the outside while struggling to survive on the inside.

Brad lives for his job. As a detective he is over worked and his life shows it. He doesn't do relationships and he is not exactly a nice guy to the ladies. Then he keeps running into his sister's best friend Miranda. There is just something about her that draws him to her. He knows she is hiding something and he wants to be the one to uncover all her secrets. However, Brad is not good with relationships and does lots of things wrong. All he knows is Miranda is the first girl he is willing to try to get it right.

Both Miranda and Brad had their issues but they make each others lives better and as long as they stick together can get past all their old demons.

I enjoyed the story of these characters and their issues, my only complaint was that everything was resolved very quickly with the ex situation and there just wasn't much bang for all the build up. I did like Miranda's determination to try to make her life better and Brad's ability to see his own faults, this was an enjoyable read.

***ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange of an honest review***

This book was filled with self-loathing, betrayal, uncertainty, struggle yet hope, love, acceptance and happiness. I will say that I struggled with this story due to parts of the book was slow; however the slowness was necessary to get the messages across to the reader.

Miranda has endured abuse, hatred, addiction and self-loathing all at the hands of someone she trusted and loved. She also has a weakness and secretes that she keeps bottled up.

Brad is older than Miranda and has issues with that. He has fallen for her but cannot come to terms with the age difference. To me, it seems as if Brad plays this give and take game with Miranda. He gives her boast of confidence yet takes away. He is so back and forth with his emotions and it makes him out to a complete douche.

As the book progresses Brad becomes more aware of how Miranda sees herself and consciously makes an effort to bring her own confidence up without tearing her down. The back and forth relationship they have is difficult at times to read but it is heartwarming to see how each of them grow with being together.

The twist and turns this book takes, will keep you wanting more. Great story and wonderful lessons.

I was first attracted to this book purely because of this cover. Isn't this cover is absolutely gorgeous.

The opening was really intriguing, I found myself wanting to know more and more. Although the theme of drug abuse and addiction was found looming over the whole book, I was really interested on knowing the struggles and thoughts revolving around that so I would of liked it if it became a theme more present.

In contrast, the relationship aspect of this book became boring fairly fast which surprised me because I normally enjoy themes about love.

I think if you had read the first book in the series you would have already liked the characters because I assume they would have made an appearance in the first book of the series. Considering that I did not read the first book because I didn't know that it was part of the series, the characters were very likable and you can empathise with them.

I absolutely love J.D. Rivera's writing. Chasing Each Other deserves more than 5 stars. LOVED this book!

Miranda was always the life of the party. She was always happy, until Preston walked into her life. He was the evil that killed her soul. By the time she gets to college, she is a shell of her former self. Brad has known that he wanted to be cop since he was little. He didn't do relationships, instead kept things casual with women. Until Miranda walks into his life. He could see she was broken, but couldn't stay away from her. Can these two find their happily ever after with each other?

OMG this author knows how to pull the emotions out of me with her talented writing style. I couldn't get enough of Brad and Miranda. J.D. Rivera's characters are simply amazing, and any reader can relate to them. Her secondary characters are fabulous as well, and give the story an extra spark to it. The way she writes about issues that are plaguing society today, without glorifying them, is brilliant. I can't get enough of her writing so I HIGHLY recommend this book, author, and series.

Miranda and Brad spend a good portion of this book fighting their feelings for each other. Although they both admit to their attraction, Brad thinks he is too old for her and Miranda thinks she is not good enough. Miranda has serious self-esteem issues and what happens after she sleeps with Brad the first time just about devastates her. Brad doesn't realize what has happened to Miranda in the past but he begins to see that she is fragile and has very low self-worth. He realizes that he played into that and tries his best to get her to forgive him. It takes his mother to point out that age doesn't make that big of a difference and he should go for what he wants. Miranda keeps her secrets close to the vest because she knows if Brad finds out he won't want her. When her secrets are exposed, Brad doesn't run like she thinks he will. Miranda and Brad work through their issues and don't hide from them anymore. What Brad promises in order to let Miranda know she is important was very well done. I enjoyed the ending and really did enjoy this book.

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**
Miranda was 19. Her ex-boyfriend changed her from a party girl to a broken person in one year. She had been doing coke when she was with him but had gotten clean. Her best friend was Mackenzie. Miranda likes Brad. He's a homicide detective. He likes her, but he's 28 and feels he's too old for Miranda.
Miranda's ex-boyfriend had really made her believe she was worthless except to go to bed with. She was really unsure of herself and believed nobody would love her, especially since she was a former addict. Through the twists and turns of this story, she does find love. Brad is a cop who spends too much time at his job. He can be kind and sweet. He loves his family. He wants Miranda but tries to stay away from her. By the end of the story, he too finds love.
I loved the story. I loved the plot and characters and enjoyed rooting them on. I highly recommend this story to anyone that likes this genre.

Another amazing read by the wonderful J.D. Rivera!!

I loved the banter and chemistry between Miranda and Brad.

Miranda has been hurt in the past by her ex Preston. She lost her confidence and learned to keep all things inside not letting others in. When she starts getting messages and calls again from Preston she doesnt want to burden her friends and family so she tries to deal with it all herself.

Brad is a detective and has been in love with Miranda pretty much since he met her. But he doesnt want to take it farther because of their age difference.

This is a stand alone and you do not need to read Chasing the Stars before but I highly recommend it. Miranda is in that book although we dont know much about her from book one. When I read this one I was highly surprised to realize just how much Miranda had gone through and was going through that we never knew about.

Cant wait for more from this author in the future and see where her amazing writing talent will take her.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions in this review are 100% my own.
This is book 2 in the Chasing series.
This book is about Miranda and her struggle with drug addiction. She craves it daily but is trying to beat it.
Miranda’s ex-boyfriend Preston has left her feeling broken. Not only was he a horrible boyfriend but he got her hooked on drugs. She is left to pick up the pieces.
As she gets her life back on track she starts to fall for Brad. Brad is the adopted brother of Mackenzie (Mackenzie was one of the main characters in book 1). Miranda doesn’t feel like she is good enough for Brad. Brad is also a cop.
Is Brad able to help Mackenzie get back on track? Does he help her see her own self-worth? You’ll have to read the book for yourself to find out.

This book picks up with Miranda and Brad's interactions, focusing mostly on them. The highlight of the book is when a co-worker asks Brad for some help on how to respond to someone on a dating website. Poor guy. The interaction between Brad and Miranda at that point, at Dave's expense is priceless. The issues with Preston that Miranda had in the last book crop up in this book. The ending is better than I was anticipating it to be. This will be a series of books that I return to over time. I am hoping that we have a third book in the series featuring Carson. We need him to have his own story too.

RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M.Brennan.

This story gets an amazing rating of 5+++++++ out 5 stars.  The author did an amazing job of developing her characters and developing a really good story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt like I was right there at the gatherings in Mackenzie's backyard enjoying food and time spent with friends and family. (Sounds cheesy but true).  It was nice to see that the author made Miranda a good, strong person who only got stronger as time went on.  The story flowed really well where the reader was able to see the connections and all the conflicts occurring with each person in the story.  I kept having to read one more page....three more pages....oops it's 3 o'clock in the morning, and I still wanted to read what was going to happen with or to Miranda, Brad, Carson......So, Chasing Each Other is to be put on your TBR list and/or go into your library!!!!!!!!!!
