A CHILD FATED TO START A WAR.
A LOVE SHE’LL RISK EVERYTHING TO PROTECT.

Set in New 2, a dangerous and lush alternate New Orleans, the 4th book in Keaton’s Gods & Monsters series, finds god-killer Ari and mistborn Sebastian on the hunt for Archer, infant son of Athena, a child fated to bring about the Blood Wars, the ultimate showdown between the gods and the monsters they created, a war that will trap mankind in the middle of a destructive conflict thousands of years in the making.

As Ari and Sebastian attempt to rescue the child, forces pull them apart, sending Sebastian on a perilous journey to the desert sands of Egypt and into the lair of a dark, enthralling entity, and Ari to the Halls of Olympus and, darker still, the very heart of the Underworld where Death awaits with a bargain that brings Ari’s worst nightmares into sharp and heart wrenching focus.

While I enjoyed having another book in this series, I don't feel like a whole lot happened to further the story? And it ended on another cliffhanger, but there isn't another book coming...

Still liked it, love the characters and the world of New 2. Crossing my fingers we get another book in the series!

How did I not know about this book?

This book was a bliss, it was all rainbows and unicorns on my innocent little heart, until it wasn't. It broke my heart, stomp on it, cut it in tiny-itsy pieces and then it set fire to it.

I loved it. It was nice to get to read this characters again. I just wish there was more. There were somethings that kind of feel like there should be more, like who is the adviser really? and What about Violet?

Here is to hoping more is to come in a future!

Let me start off by saying that I FREAKING LOVE this series. I mean, seriously. I wrote my college senior thesis based on the themes and the plot of this book - it's absolutely amazing and different in ways that Young Adult Paranormal Literature usually isn't.

With that being said, the first three books of this series( Darkness Becomes Her (Gods & Monsters, #1) by Kelly Keaton , A Beautiful Evil (Gods & Monsters, #2) by Kelly Keaton , The Wicked Within (Gods & Monsters, #3) by Kelly Keaton ) were wonderful. This one, by comparison, was not. Before rattling off to you all the reasons why I didn't like this book, let me tell you that I'm a little biased. Since I did read the first three books and loved them, I started reading this one expecting it to be equally as great. In a way, that makes me a teeny weenie bit biased. Well, maybe, any way.

Heart of Stone begins recalling the aftermath of The Wicked Within. With Athena dead, and Archer in the care of Apollo, Ari and Sebastian are awaiting their turn to care for the baby. However, with a certain twist of events, they realize that Archer is missing and that they must split up and search the ends of the Earth (and the Underworld) to find him.

During this journey, we're reacquainted with characters from the first three books, i.e. Melinoe, the Harpie Mapsaura, Hestia, etc., but we are also introduced to new characters - The Dark Mother, Nyx, The Advisor. While meeting new characters and going through a surprisingly action-filled adventure usually makes for a good plot, it just somehow doesn't fit in with this story at all. Let me reword my thoughts - while this adventure takes you on a fun ride, its is absolutely UNNECESSARY .

If you haven't read the first three books, you might like the book. Like I said, it has lots of action and wonderful characters with tons of personality. You'll be confused as hell, but overall I'm sure you'll like it. BUT, if you did read the trilogy, I'm telling you for your own good - YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR PRECIOUS TIME IF YOU READ THIS BOOK . Everything that happened was unnecessary - it seems more like Kelly Keaton decided that since the trilogy was a best seller, she should try to continue the story and make more money off of the series. And don't even get me started on the ending. Really?!?! That really seems like the appropriate ending to the story?!?! REALLY?!?!?!? Kelly, my dear, you need to put the pen down. The series should've ended with the third book - this continuation needs to stop before it damages the acclaim you've built with the trilogy!

Needless to say, if another book comes out after Heart of Stone, I will not be reading it. In fact, for the next few days, I will be working on UNREADING this book (I don't know how, but I'm sure as hell going to try!) and pretending that the God's and Monsters series ended with The Wicked Within.

If you do decide to read Heart of Stone after my rant, kudos to you. But remember, you have been thoroughly warned!

*sigh* I missed everyone in NEW 2!

Kelly Keaton kept me at the edge of my seat! I missed Ari and her kick butt moves!

the endddddd -- what? Kelly shattered me and then put me back together!

My emotions are all over the place right now that I don't even know what to say!

if you want a good YA paranormal romance, definitely pick this one up! Don't worry, you don't have to be familiar with the first couple books. though I recommend them! ;) It's been a while since I've read them, but I wasn't lost one bit, and to be honest, this felt like a BRAND NEW story featuring my favorite characters. Kelly gives enough background for you to get the gist of it all.

I hope there is more! It has a complete ending, but leaves room for another.

loved it! I recommend this book to all YA LOVERS!

This is a book with a slow start but that picks up in a satisfying way. It is the fourth book in a series and does not function as a standalone story. There are just too many characters and too much history for that. But our heroin, a Gorgon relieved of the Burtons of that particular curse, find herself in the position of needing to save yet again the child she’d so recently rescued, the son of the goddess Athena. This sends her traveling through the realms of Olympus and beyond while her boyfriend, a vampire, must fight his own battles. This is a quick read with a lot of plot and action. Not much in the way of character development or emotional processing. But it is incredibly fun for that. And while there are moments of high emotion the author doesn’t tend to linger on these.
I started this book wanting a light read and that is what I got. If you are looking for the same this isn’t a bad choice. I would recommend though starting with the previous books in the series.

**This is book 4 in a completed series. You need to read the previous books to understand the plot of this book.**

Set in New 2, a dangerous and lush alternate New Orleans, the fourth book in Keaton’s Gods & Monsters series, finds the God-killer Ari and Mistborn Sebastian on the hunt for Archer, infant son of Athena, a child fated to bring about the Blood Wars, the ultimate showdown between the gods and the monsters they created, a war that will trap mankind in the middle of a destructive conflict thousands of years in the making. Ratings:
1. **Plot and Storytelling:** 2/5 While the plot was enjoyable, I found there was an excessive amount of info dumping that lacked subtlety. However, once past the initial barrage of information, the story started to unfold well and was engaging. Unfortunately it lost me again and by the end was not nearly as enjoyable as the previous books.

2. **Characterization:** 4/5 I absolutely love these characters and how they've grown and overcome challenges. My personal favorite is Violet.

3. **Writing Style:** 3/5 The writing was descriptive and well-done, and the pacing of the book was not bad. However, the heavy info dumping at the beginning was off-putting, despite the overall quality of the writing.

4. **Originality:** 4/5 I appreciate the unique take on Medusa and other supernatural elements woven throughout the story. The inclusion of multiple pantheons of Gods added an intriguing layer of depth.

5. **Emotional Impact and Resolution:** 3/5 The story evoked a range of emotions in me, from fear to anger to happiness. However, I felt that the ending, while emotionally resonant, was too overt in setting up for a fifth book, detracting somewhat from the overall resolution.

Overall rating: 3/5

Would I buy this book again? No. If given the chance, I'd consider borrowing this book from the library or using Kindle Unlimited, rather than purchasing it again.

If you enjoyed "Heart of Stone" by Kelly Keaton, you might like "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare. Both books are urban fantasy novels with strong female protagonists navigating supernatural worlds filled with intrigue and danger.

I anxiously awaited this fourth installment in Kelly Keaton's Gods and Monsters series. I thought the first one, Darkness Becomes Her, was such a brilliant breath of fresh air in the overpopulated field of paranormal romance as it incorporated a clever mixture of magical beings and ancient Greek gods, but most importantly a female protagonist who was tough as nails. The other books in this series have been quite enjoyable if not always quite as well thought out. It's fun to return to New 2 and the cast of characters there and see how Ari and her band of misfit friends are advancing. This installment, however, was mostly a disappointment. Keaton makes it clear on her webpage and in the dedication that she struggled to write this, and that struggle is evident. The story hinges around Ari's deep love for a character we barely know, and a relationship we haven't seen, so she spends a lot of time explaining it. The villains' motivations are a bit unclear as well and they feel like cardboard cutouts from any main action movie. The editing is also a bit suspect, with quite a few typos. Overall, it feels like Keaton (who also writes the Charlie Madigan series as Kelly Gay) has been trying to write too much too fast. The ending seems to indicate that the story is far from finished, so hopefully she'll take some more time to bring the next installment up to her usual standards.

This book was good until it wasn’t. Although the book felt a bit unnecessary i still enjoyed it until SEBASTIAN FREAKING DIED- like what?! 4 books of building a relationship with Ari all for nothing , plus he was taken out so easily! It didn’t feel finished, there were tons of plot holes. But like I’m so sad idk what to feel rn. Honestly know that I’m read the ending I wish I had just stuck to the trilogy. I’m just gonna pretend this book never happened and Sebastian and Ari lived happily ever after.

Heart of Stone is the 4th installment in the Gods & Monsters series and sadly it appears to be the last despite the ending of this book having so many loose ends. I've enjoyed the series as a whole and hope she is able to continue it in the future though!

This one in particular I really enjoyed the character development in several of the characters, but particularly Mel. I think my biggest "complaint" was I just wish we had gotten more time of Sebastian and Ari together in this book because I enjoy their dynamic.

Overall it will have to satisfy as the ending.

Where is the 5th book for this? The entire book felt like a set up for the next one and apparently nothing has been published in 5 years?! I loved this series but have no faith in the author now. The end made no sense if this is how it all ends. The epilogue was a waste of space if this is how it ends. Everything involving Bass in the entire book was worthless if this is the last book. Grrrrr...It was a great book but a horrible LAST book in the series.

I wanted to like it. I tried because the first three were really good but this one. Ugh. It felt rushed, lacked emotion, and has so many unanswered questions.
I hope this is not how it ends because that would suck big time.

I finally read Kelly Keaton's Heart of Stone, the book she self-published and added to her Gods and Monsters series. It's the last book in the series, but alas, it wasn't the finale. There were some loose ends at the end of this one...things that went unresolved and it left me feeling a little jaded. The lack of finale, not so much the book itself.

It has been way too long since I read the third book of this series, but I went into this one anyway. While I could recall somethings about the series, characters and connections, there was still a lot I had forgotten. Luckily, Kelly does a bit of a recap here and there to bring up the important parts.

Ari and Sebastian are getting used to what feels like a normal life, as normal as it can be for them given that she used to be a Gorgon, but still maintains the better part of her powers, and Sebastian is a Mistborn or vampire, if you will. They know the fated Blood Wars are coming sometime in the future, but until that day, they just live life at the fullest.

They were awaiting the arrival of Baby Archer who would spend half the year with them and the other half with his godly relatives on Olympus. But the day he should arrive, Apollo comes empty-handed and coming down with some sort of sickness.

Now it's up to Ari and Sebastian to try to find out where Archer is being held. Sebastian will go to Egypt to find Horus and Artemis and get their help while Ari is going up to Olympus to look for clues or answers. But of course they both find trouble in their respective journeys.

This was a rather fun book, and that's me saying this without having remembered much at all of books 1-3! It was exciting and things were being laid out for what I believed was to be the Blood Wars...but yet, they never happened. Not in this book. I wondered if Kelly had plans to write another installment but then just didn't. I read this book 5 years after it released, the publisher published their last one in 2013...it would seem everyone is done with this series and yet there was still a lot more that was meant to happen.

This book was intense! As any books dealing with gods and goddesses would be. The action was more suspenseful than the battling sort, though there were some mini ones here and there. But the biggest draw of this book were all the little things were learning about what was to come from this supposed war. There were all these little things being laid out, like an enemy who was only around so briefly, a huge revelation concerning Sebastian. Everything was just whoa! And with the way this one ended, HOLY COW!

Needless to say that this was a most exciting read. I was devastated by its ending though...only because this was the end. And there were too many things left unanswered. Too many mini cliffhangers left hanging for all eternity. Yes, it's dramatic, but omg why did no one tell me this one was going to end in tragic ways?! Tragic being there are cliffhangers that will never be answered. I wonder if things would've been better had I said things ended at book 3. I can't really remember that one well, but from what I learned at the beginning of this one...it would've been better. This installment almost felt like a cruel joke. Like here's more to read...until there's not!

If you enjoy Greek mythology, I would highly recommend checking this older series out! Heart of Stone was quite fun and Ari was a lovable heroine. Though, I guess I'd recommend maybe skipping this installment unless you don't mind the torture of unfinished series. Had I know this, I might have skipped this installment in the end.

This book was definitely my favorite up until around the 75% mark. For most of this story, I loved it, and was thinking about rating it higher than any of the other books. This was probably partly due to the fact that I love the Underworld, including Hades and Thanatos, so I was already pretty intrigued. But even the plot line was better than the others. The book starts off with Ari and Sebastian training and I absolutely loved it. I also still love Bran and he made an appearance right away as well. Then, the adventures they went on were great. Ari was a badass and Sebastian wasn't some overprotective boyfriend. They separated when it was necessary and did what they had to. The story was action packed and made more sense than the other books, for the most part. I fell in love with Mel and Violet was just as adorable as ever. So, even though this book still wasn't the best rendition of Greek mythology or the most amazing book I've ever read, it was definitely better than the first three.

Unfortunately, the ending just didn't live up to my expectations. It seemed more like some things happened just for the shock factor, rather than seeming natural. And, in addition to some things feeling forced, they weren't even resolved adequately. So many things were left unanswered and unresolved.

And I just need to quickly mention that I also noticed a lot more typos and whatnot. Oh, and referring to Crank as Jenna without any real transition was weird and I didn't like it.

Anyway, I'm not going to go into all of the flaws in this series. I'll simply reiterate what I've been saying: this is a fun, entertaining series, but not something that changed my life.

This was the worst of all series.
Seriously!!!!!
Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan score way above this.

I think Kelly was trying to imitate the gang by creating the kind of jocular irreverence for Gods by 'heros' ala Percy Jackson.
Calling Horus 'asshole' and other stupid stuff - is that supposed to be funny or show how tough and modern these heroes are? Like being American = license to disrespect other cultures and civilizations?

And the worst part of the story?
A kidnapping so God of Death can bring back his long lost love to life - really????????
Thanatos hurt Apollo - who definitely knew who hurt him- risked an attack from Apollo Artemis and Horus in future - all just to get Ari in action ????????????????
Thats ur scary story?

Not to mention weirdly forced humorous scenes like Ari trying to fist-bump one of the Graces or sympathizing with Goddess NYX cos Archer played with the Goddess's hair....

Really???????
Thats what new-age mythos is about?
Trying to show Ancient Gods as new-age teenagers or regular funny people you might meet in a Sitcom???

I dont get it!

Ohh... I can't believe it. Kelly Keaton!!! She is just... WOW. I absolutely loved the previous installments in the series, and I couldn't wait to read this one. Hell, it was most certainly worth it. In the end, I was just unsure of how Kelly Keaton managed to play with my emotions effortlessly. This book is just ups and downs for Ari and her friends. Goods and Bads that make Heart of Stone what it is. Really, please consider carefully before you decided not to read Darkness Becomes Her. I'm hoping you'll love this series as much as I do. my friends are probably going to be hearing all about Kelly Keaton for a while. I can't believe it's all over. All the drama of the Gods and Monsters series. If one of you guys knows that there's going to be another book, please tell me. I'll freak. I'm certainly going to read more Kelly Keaton. What a stunning book.
